Chapter 27

Kensi was supposed to take one week, only seven days, off work to heal and recuperate; direct orders from Hetty herself. Deeks, Callen, and Sam had all stressed the importance of her taking the time and not pushing herself.

"It's just a week, Kensi." Sam had told her.
"Yeah, you'll be back at it in no time!" Callen had smiled encouragingly.

After getting her settled back in Deeks' apartment, the two senior agents had found it amusing that she wanted to stay with a dog and a mutt, the team had all taken turns telling her to stay home and rest.

Deeks hadn't even bothered. He just leaned against the wall and smirked at her knowingly.

At ten o'clock the morning after she'd came home, Kensi made her first attempt at escaping.

Unfortunately for her, Callen and Sam were parked slightly down the street; invisible from where she'd looked out the window. They were smirking and shaking her head at her as she walked over to the Challenger.

Sam crossed his arms and leaned against his precious car. "You couldn't have waited until tomorrow?" He asked her.

She looked at him confused until Callen spoke up. "You realize now we've got to buy Shaggy's lunch for the next two weeks?" The senior agent in charge said in mock-anger.

"Speak for yourself; I don't even wanna talk about what I promised him." Sam said miserably. "I was sure she'd take the first day of silence. Then sneak out." Sam shook his head.

Kensi grinned at the two men. "Wait, did you all bet when I'd try to escape?" She asked incredulously.

"Maybe." Sam shrugged.
"Unfortunately." Callen rolled his eyes.

"Aw and he's just gonna be so smug when he figures out he was right." Sam whined.
"Completely insufferable." Callen replied with a meaningful look to Kensi.

"You know, if you'd just... go back in the house we can all agree this little attempt never happened." Sam smirked a little.

Kensi crossed her arms. "That's totally cheating." She couldn't help but grin.

Callen spread his hands in a what can you do motion. "What's it hurt? Either way it doesn't really affect you." He smiled.

"No but it does affect my partner." She argued lightly.

"She's picking Shaggy over us, G." Sam sniffed dramatically, holding a hand over his heart.

"I never thought I'd see the day she'd turn her back on us, Big Guy." Callen shook his head.

Kensi laughed loudly and winced slightly when a pain shot through her side. "You good, Kensi?" Sam inquired, concerned.

"Yeah, I'm good. But you know... I could be persuaded to just, walk back in the house." She smirked slightly.

The men glanced at each other and shared a grin. "We'll do your paperwork." Callen offered.

"Keep talking." Kensi deadpanned.

"And get your lunches." Sam added.
"And walk your mutt." Callen smirked.

"I thought you two hated Monty." Kensi arched an eyebrow.

"No, your other mutt; the shaggier one." Sam smirked.

She grinned at that. "You two are terrible."
"You used to side with us." Callen teased.

"Yeah, well things changed..." Kensi shifted on her feet.

"You're happy though?" Sam inquired.

She could tell from his posture and his tone that if she said no, the SEAL would permanently injure her partner. "Yes, Sam I am."

"Good." They nodded.

Her phone rang with an incoming text message, drawing away her attention.

Whatever they offer I'll double it. ;) –Deeks

She laughed and showed the guys. "He seems very confident in knowing I'd try to escape. And that you two would make a deal with me." Kensi grinned.

"We'll throw in an unlimited supply of donuts for a week." Callen offered.

"I'll let you drive my car." Sam begged.

That stopped of the other agents. "Wait, you'd let me drive your Challenger before telling Deeks he was right?" Kensi laughed.

"That and letting him drive it." Sam replied angrily.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa, you told Deeks he could drive your car? Ha!" Kensi laughed loudly, almost scarily.

Callen grinned at his partner's misfortune. "Well from what I've seen, Kensi's not the best driver in the world; you're no better off with her, Big Guy." He laughed.

"Hey! I am a great driver!" Kensi snapped, making the two male agents laugh again.

"So," Sam started quirking an eyebrow at the woman. "When exactly where you planning on telling G and I about this development in your partnership?" He inquired.

Kensi shifted on her feet almost nervously. "I wasn't really sure... Deeks wanted to tell you guys." She admitted.

"But you didn't?" Callen asked.
"And here I thought we were friends." Sam teased.

Kensi laughed lightly. "No, no. It wasn't anything about that." She assured them. "I just... Deeks and I... our relationship it's, it's personal. And it's ours and I didn't really wanna share it with anybody." Kensi finally admitted.

"I can understand that." Sam nodded.
"But still, you don't have to hide anything from us, Kens." Callen added.

"Oh because you're so open and honest about everything, G?" Sam laughed.

"I don't know what you're talking about; I'm an open book." Callen grinned.

"Did you guys give Deeks a bad time?" Kensi inquired, nervous for her boyfriend. Boyfriend, she thought, seems so weird. But at the same time, it's not.

The senior agents grinned mischievously. "Oh we haven't even started." Callen replied eagerly.

"Go easy on him." Kensi shook her head, laughing lightly.

Sam was silent for a moment, just looking at Kensi, before he glanced away. "He's good for you." He admitted softly.

Kensi's eyebrows rose to her hair line, and Callen looked at his partner, shocked. "Wow, you all right there, Big Guy?" He inquired.

The woman smiled happily at Sam; she was glad that he could see Deeks' good qualities instead of thinking or saying he wasn't good enough. "Thank you, for saying that Sam; I'm glad you think so. But, no offense, I know he's good for me. And that's what matters." She told them.

Sam smiled; he was glad Kensi knew that. He didn't want her to let what they -or anyone for that matter- thought affect how she lived her life or what brought her happiness.

"Well, it sounds like you've got it all figured out, Kensi." Callen smiled.

"Now get back in the house; you're still on bed rest. Hetty's orders." Sam said firmly, pointing back towards Deeks' apartment.

Kensi groaned. "But guys, I'm fine!" She insisted, spreading her arms and smiling.

"Doesn't matter; Hetty gave orders." Callen smirked, crossing his arms.

"Oh, because you always take your time off to recover when Hetty tells you to." Kensi snapped.

"She does have a point, G." Sam chuckled.

"Whose side are you on? Because you are not helping our case." Callen replied.

"Case? Is something happening with the case? What's going on? Let me help!" Kensi asked eagerly.

"Nothing you need to be worried about." Sam winked.

"Deeks is getting information out of a guy and we are waiting on Eric's searches." Callen explained. "Nothing really major." He added.

Suddenly a horn honked, making all three agents turn. Kensi's jaw dropped a bit as she saw Deeks driving her car. He got out with a smile and sauntered over to the rest of the team.

"Howdy." He greeted them.

"What are you doing? Who said you could drive my car?" Kensi immediately inquired.

Deeks shot her a grin. "Oh, so we're not doing the whole yours, mines, ours thing?" He teased, coming to her side. He gave her a subtle once over, checking on her condition.

"Have you been stealing my Twinkies? Because I have noticed my stash is significantly smaller that it was last I counted." Kensi narrowed her eyes.

The shaggy man laughed. "Oh, sorry, Sunshine; that is all you."
"Oh.." Kensi replied, looking a bit pink.

"Deeks what are you even doing here?" Callen inquired.

"I've got a date and time for an exchange going down." Deeks replied.
Sam nodded. "Good work. We're heading back to OPS."

"Wait, I'm sorry; what was that?" Deeks asked, looking shocked.

"OPS, you know, our base. Surely you know where it is." Sam winked, walking over to his car and getting in.

Callen had an amused grin on his face. "We'll see you there Deeks. Kensi, we'd better not see you." Call pointed at the two before following his partner into the car.

The younger partners watched as the Challenger sped off, leaving them alone.

"Finally." Deeks smiled, tugging Kensi into his arms gently.

She laughed lightly. "You came all the way back here for a hug?" Kensi inquired as she wrapped her arms around his waist.

Deeks smiled softly at her, making her heart tighten as she smiled back. "Oh no, Fern. I came all the way back here because I wanted to you hold. And I wanted a kiss." He admitted quietly, cupping her jaw, leaning down, and gently pressing his lips to hers.

He'd been treating her so softly since she got shot. Kensi thought maybe it should irritate her, but id didn't. She knew he knew how tough she is. Deeks didn't think of her as an inferior. Maybe that's why it didn't bother her so much, she thought.

Suddenly his lips pulled away and he eyed her carefully. "You're thinking on me, Kensalina. You're not s'posed to be thinkin' when I'm kissin'." He narrowed his eyes teasingly.

"Just thinking I'm lucky." She whispered softly.

Deeks' eyebrows rose, surprised, and his lips turned up in a grin. "No, no, Kensi. That's my line. I'm the lucky one here." He told her, gently rubbing his thumb across her cheekbone.

The woman smiled in response and laid her head against his chest; his arms tighten slightly and brought her even closer to him.

"I don't like you being out there without me." She mumbled quietly.

"I don't like you pushing yourself. I don't like that you're injured." He mumbled back.

"I'm okay, Deeks. Really." Kensi told him, pulling away.

"Yeah, no, I know that. I do, honestly. But, it's must job to make sure you stay okay." Deeks told her, his tone low and serious.

She smiled at him, but their moment was ruined when Deeks' phone rang. The shaggy man sighed as he pulled it from his pocket, seeing OPS flashing. "Looks like I've gotta roll, Fern."

Kensi pouted as she stepped back, shoving her hands in her pockets. "Don't worry, Fern. I'll be back." He winked at her, cupping her jaw once again and kissing her again; making her melt into his kiss.

Deeks pulled away grinning. "One for the road." He chuckled, letting himself have just one more kiss before finally pulling away. "I'll see you later, Sunshine." Deeks smiled, walking backwards towards her car.

Kensi ran a hand through her hair and blew out a breath. "Uh huh." She rolled her eyes teasingly; wishing she could go with him.

"I love you." He said happily.

His words brought a smile to her face, and she tilted her head at him. "You too, Shaggy."

Deeks knew she still felt a bit uncomfortable saying the words, but he didn't need her to say them every day; Kensi laying in his bed, and telling him she was in love with him had been one of the best moments of his life. Knowing she felt the same way about him as he did her was the best feeling; he could deal with her not explicitly saying it all the time.

But that didn't stop him from doing it.

"Love you." Deeks told her again.
"If you love me you'll bring me some food later." Kensi grinned.

"Yeah, I'll bring you a nice, healthy salad." Deeks teased.

"No!" She whined. "Something deep fried or sugary." She demanded.

"How about I just get you a heart attack?" The shaggy man teased, opening the car door.

"How about I get you some scissors and we'll get that shaggy mess you call hair!" Kensi retorted.

"You know you like it, Fern!" He yelled, shutting the car door and driving off.
