Chapter 33
As soon as the family of three left their soon to be new home, they got to work. Deeks drove to a nearby store to buy boxes to pack up their things, and trash bags to go through some of Kensi's hoarded things.
"Deeks I am not a hoarder for the millionth time!" Kensi exclaimed when she saw the trash bags he'd purchased.
The day after finding the house, Deeks, Kensi, and Leo went over to Kensi's house to try and sort through her many things.
The shaggy man grinned. "Oh, but my Lady Bird, you are indeed. I am here to smooth this whole process along."
"I'm here too!" Leo called from the other side of Kensi's living room, hiding behind a stack of magazines large enough to completely cover the boy.
"Oh yes, my bad, Bud. See, it's become so bad I've lost our kid. That's dangerous." Deeks smirked at her.
Even though she was irritated at him, Kensi smiled. "Well, our kid is short and is easily concealed. That doesn't prove anything."
Deeks arched an eyebrow at her. "I bet that if you left for five minutes and came back I could hide well enough in all this junk that you would never find me. And that would be a sad, sad day in your life Kens."
"More like a quiet, quiet day." Kensi grinned.
"Ouch, Fern. That hurt, I'm wounded really." Deeks replied, holding his hands to his chest.
"Daddy is you otay?" Leo popped up from the magazines, concerned. "Mommy, kiss it and make it beh-tor!" He demanded.
Deeks grinned at Kensi. "Yeah, Mommy, kiss it and make it better."
Kensi rolled her eyes. "The things I do for you silly boys." She teased, but nonetheless walked over to him and kissed his chest.
"All healed! It's a miracle." Deeks grinned, wrapping his arms around her.
"Yay!" Leo cheered, before diving back into the mysteries of Kensi's house.
Deeks pressed his forehead to Kensi's. "We may be silly boys, but we're your boys." He whispered softly.
Kensi smiled. "I wouldn't trade you for anything."
"Yeah, no can I get that in writing? Maybe have a witness sign?" The man grinned.
Kensi laughed loudly before turning her attention to the mess that was her place. "Maybe we could go look at furniture today. Leave this mess for another day." She suggested, turning her puppy eyes to Deeks.
"Or we could take the few valuables that aren't currently at my place -because most of your important stuff is already there- and just light a match to all this crap." Deeks grinned.
Kensi pouted. "But, but my stuff..."
He crumbled at her pout. "Okay Fern. We'll go through all of it to save your precious things. some of them." Deeks promised.
Kensi grinned triumphantly. "I can live with that. Now let's get out of here. I really don't wanna deal with this today." She laughed.
"We may have to go find Lassie to rescue Leo." Deeks teased.
"Oh ha ha. You're hilarious. Leo, let's go babe." Kensi said.
"Otay!" Leo replied, running around the stuff on the floor and towards his parents.
"So what all can we take from here, as far as furniture?" Deeks inquired as he waited for Kensi to lock the door.
"The couch, the dresser and the table. Everything else came with it the place." She told him. "Yours?"
"I had to get all of Leo's furniture, so we won't have to worry about his room. Umm, my whole living room except the couch. So that means we need a bed for us at the top of the list." Deeks explained.
Kensi nodded. "If Leo's room is covered, and between the two of us the living room is covered, I've got a dining table-"
"That was used for cleaning guns instead of actually dining." Deeks grinned.
Kensi hit him in the arm playfully as he unlocked the car. "So other than my dresser we don't have anything for the master bedroom. Not bad." She shrugged.
"Nah. Except now we get to go lie down on every single mattress in the store until we sort of agree on one." Deeks snorted.
"Sounds lovely." Kensi rolled her eyes.
"Oh my gosh, Kensi I'm in love." Deeks practically moaned.
Kensi arched an eyebrow at the man lying on a bed in the middle of the store. He was drawing odd locks from almost everyone that walked by, and Kensi's face was red from embarrassment.
"Yes, Deeks. I know you're in love, we've talked about it remember?" She told him.
Deeks sat up. "No, no I meant this mattress. It's fantastic, you've gotta lie on it."
Kensi's face grew even more red. "Oh. I knew that." She said, looking at her shoes.
"It's weally comfy Mommy!" Leo exclaimed, lying next to Deeks.
The man threw his legs off the side of the bed and stood up, moving close to Kensi. "But I am very much in love with you, Kensi. This mattress doesn't even come close." He assured her, pressing a quick kiss to her lips.
She couldn't help but smile at his affection. "I don't wanna lie on this in the middle of the store."
"Kens just do it. People do it all the time." Deeks replied.
"Come on Mommy!" Leo encouraged her.
"Why don't I just take your word for it?" Kensi asked.
"Because that would be a first." Deeks snorted.
"Oh yeah. I don't usually do that because usually you need someone to correct you." Kensi teased.
"You two are a lovely couple. How long have you been married?" A new voice suddenly interrupted the agents' bubble.
Kensi jerked towards the older woman talking, while Deeks merely turned. "Oh, no ma'am we're not married." She explained.
"Engaged?" The woman inquired.
Kensi's face grew a bit pink. "No ma'am. Just... a couple."
"Well you two go back and forth like married couple, I didn't mean to pry." She replied, before turning and walking away. Kensi's mouth opened to speak, but no words came out. Then she collected herself. "She was totally judging us."
"Oh well." Deeks shrugged.
"Do we banter like a married couple?" Kensi asked.
"Callen and Sam banter like a married couple. Sometimes I forget that Sam has a wife." Deeks laughed. Kensi burst out laughing too. "But nah, we banter... we banter like us."
"Us." Kensi smiled up at Deeks.
"Us!" Leo clapped.
Kensi laughed, and looked back up at Deeks when she noticed he hadn't. She saw a far away look in his eyes; he was thinking hard about something. "Deeks?" She asked gently. "Deeks you okay?" She inquired.
Deeks seemed to jerk out of whatever haze he was in. "Huh? Yeah, no I'm good. Lie on the mattress, Kens. We're burnin' daylight! Sam and Michelle expect us over at their house in a couple of hours." He exclaimed.
Kensi could still see something in his eyes, but pushed him no further. "Alright, move over Leo!" She told the boy.
Sam and Michelle decided to have a BBQ at their house, and invite the whole team. Everyone had eagerly agreed, except Callen; he'd tried to get out of it, but Michelle threatened his life if he didn't show up.
Callen was the first one there.
Deeks opened the car door for Leo, and threw his arm around Kensi's shoulders. The three of lookedlike the perfect family. The little boy was beyond excited to spend time with his favorite uncles, and have their complete attention. At OSP he knew they were working, so they couldn't play with him all day. Today, however, they could.
Leo ran to the door while his parents trailed behind him. He reached the door bell and looked over his shoulder, using his puppy dog eyes to beg to be the one to ring the bell. Deeks chuckled and nodded at the boy.
"You know, he picked that up from you." Kensi laughed.
"What?" Deeks grinned.
"Those pleading eyes of his." She told him.
"Maybe he got it from you, you can have some very pleading eyes from time to time." Deeks smirked at her.
Kensi rolled her eyes and slapped him lightly. "I do not. And you try any chance you get to use those eyes on people. You used them today at the store when that guy came and told you and Leo not to jump on the beds!"
"Hey! I did not use puppy dog eyes on any man. And besides, how else are you supposed to test the awesomeness of a bed if not by jumping on it?" Deeks objected, as they reached the door and waited for someone to open it.
"You totally gave him the eyes." She grinned.
"No I didn't. But you, Fern, tried to use them on me today. They worked, I'll give you that, but still. You've sucumbed to my level." He laughed.
"What? When?" Kensi demanded.
"When you were trying to get out of going through all the crap that you've hoarded! You totally hit me with those big, pleading, gorgeous eyes of yours."
Kensi narrowed said eyes. "You're trying to make me forget what we're talking about by complementing me and it's not going to work."
"It's not?" Deeks asked, tilting his head and giving her the puppy eyes.
Kensi held his gaze for a moment, before she broke. "Oh forget it." She said, grabbing the collar of his shirt and pulling his lips to hers.
She could feel Deeks smiling against her lips, so she bit him lightly. He groaned a bit, sliding his hands down to her waist and holding her close. Neither of them registered the door opening and Leo running inside.
"Not on my porch, please." Sam's amused voice broke through their bubble.
Deeks jumped a bit, rubbing the back of his neck. "Hey Sam." He said.
"Hi there. There are kids in here, one of which is yours, that don't really want or need to see you two lip lockin'. So please keep it G in here." Sam teased them.
"I feel like I just got busted by my parents." Deeks laughed.
"If we'd gotten busted by my dad he would've shot you." Kensi told him.
"He's lucky that's not what I did." Sam quipped.
"Yeah, no let's not do that." Deeks laughed nervously.
The other two agents laughed as Sam waved them in. "Michelle is really happy everyone's coming today."
"Is everyone else here?" Kensi asked.
"Nope, the Wonder Twins are on their way." the SEAL replied.
They walked outside to see Leo chasing after Sam's daughter, Kamran. The two were laughing loudly as they ran all over the yard.
"Looks like somebody made a friend." Kensi smiled.
"Hmm, parents are friends, grow up together. Future lovers? I ship it." Deeks grinned mischievously.
"Oh hell no. There's no way I'm gonna be in laws with you." Sam immediately objected before walking over to the grill.
"Hey, I'm just saying! It could happen!" Deeks called after him.
Michelle made sure everyone was absolutely full. All of the agents were lounging in chairs on the patio outside, completely immoble.
"I don't think I've ever eaten so much food." Eric groaned, his head lulled back and his eyes closed.
"I don't think I'll eat for a week." Nell laughed.
"I hope you all enjoyed it." Michelle smiled.
"It was fabulous, Michelle. Thank you." Callen told her.
"Hey, I did the grillin'. Where's my credit?" Sam objected.
"It was awesome, Daddy!" Kamran exclaimed.
"Oh yeah!" Leo added.
The adults laughed, while they kids got up and started running around again. It got quiet on the patio as they all just sat and enjoyed the night air.
"I'm glad you guys did this. It's nice to hang out and enjoy a normal night with you guys." Nell smiled.
"I agree." Kensi smiled, stretching out in her chair and wiggling her feet, which were perched in Deeks's lap.
"I just thought maybe we could use some family time. I'm thankful for you guys, and for my wife and my kids." Sam explained.
Deeks hadn't said much in a while, so Kensi prodded him with her foot. "Hey Shaggy, you okay over there?" She asked.
He immediately perked up. "Yeah, no I'm good. Just thinkin'."
"Don't hurt yourself, now." Sam teased.
"You've been acting strange all day, fess up." Kensi narrowed her eyes at him.
"You really wanna know?" Deeks asked.
"Yes, obviously." She laughed.
"Okay." The man nodded, moving her feet off his lap and standing up.
"Deeks?" Kensi asked.
Deeks took a deep breath and let it out slowly. "Kensi Blye you asked for it." He joked nervously.
"Deeks." Kensi said, trying to figure him out.
He dropped to one knee in front of her chair and grabbed her hand. Her eyes immediately grew wide as she realized what was happening. Nell squealed from her seat. Eric shushed her.
"Kensi. Fern. Kiki. Kensalina, I love you. You have completely invaded every aspect of my life. When I met you in that gym I knew there was something special about you. You became the partner I've always wanted, and the mother Leo's always deserved. Our family is as close to perfect as you can get. I want to wake up with you next to me every morning for the rest of my life. I want to give you all the happiness that you've brought into my life and more. Let me do that. Me and Leo are a package deal, but we're a helluva package. We love you. So Kensi Blye, will you marry me? Let me make you happy?" Deeks asked nervously, digging into his pocket and pulling out a small blue box.
When he opened it, revealing the gorgeous ring, Nell and Michelle both squealed again.
Kensi's mouth had opened at some point, and she seemed frozen. She stared at Deeks for long, silent moments. Deeks looked up at her, anxious about her silence.
"Hey Kens, this is normally where you'd give some sort of answer." Callen said, breaking the silence.
Kensi snapped out of her haze and a smile grew across her face. "Yes." She said softly.
"Yes!" Deeks grinned, sliding the ring on her finger before cupping her face and kissing her firmly.
The whole team hooted and clapped. "Not on my patio!" Sam teased.
Deeks broke the kiss laughing. Nell immediately ran over to Kensi, hugging her tightly and demanding to see the ring. Callen and Sam patted Deeks on the back.
"Kensi that was almost mean, leaving the man hanging so long." Callen laughed.
Kensi's face was red and Deeks tugged her over to him, wrapping his arms around her from behind. "I didn't even realize I hadn't said anything and that he was waiting!" She explained.
"You had me worried, Fern." Deeks whispered in her ear.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to." She replied.
"Hey what's goin' on?" Leo inquired, running up with Kamran.
"Your mommy and daddy just got engaged!" Nell exclaimed.
"Nelly, what does dat mean?" The boy asked.
"It means they're gonna get married, and Kensi can be your official mommy." Nell replied.
Leo's mouth opened in shock. "This is so cool!" He yelled excitedly.
"Five bucks he doesn't know what's really going on." Kensi laughed quietly.
"Not a clue." Deeks said into her hair, rocking them back and forth.
"We're getting married." Kensi whispered, as Deeks pressed a kiss to her neck.
He grinned against her skin. "You sure you're up for this? There's no backing out after this, you'll be mine forever." He teased.
"Good. That's how I want it." Kensi replied firmly. Deeks's grin grew wider.
Leo went to bed easily when they got home. In fact, he'd fallen asleep in the car. Deeks carried him into his room and carefully changed him into his pajamas and tucked him in. When he walked down the hall and into his and Kensi's room, he stopped in the doorway. Kensi was sitting on their bed, wearing nothing but one of his old LAPD shirts, brushing her hair.
She was perfect.
"Stop staring at me, Deeks." Kensi said, smiling nonetheless.
"I can't. You're beautiful and you just agreed to be my wife." He said, joy radiating off of him in waves.
Kensi laughed lightly. "So what made you do it tonight? Not that I'm objecting."
Deeks thought for a moment. "It just felt right. I've been thinking about it for a while. I mean, we don't have to rush into the house. We can take time to plan out the wedding and get married, then move in. I was thinking it'd be nice for us to sign the papers as 'Mr. and Mrs. Deeks' instead of just 'Mr. Deeks and Ms. Blye'." He explained.
"Mr. and Mrs. Deeks." She echoed.
"Has a certain ring to it." Deeks grinned.
"Kensi Deeks." She tried out.
"Even better." He smiled, stripping off his clothes in favor of comfortable sweats.
"Will it be weird if I still call you Deeks?" Kensi asked.
"I don't think so. I mean, what else would you call me? Marty?" He asked.
"I could, if you wanted me to." Kensi shrugged.
Deeks paused for a moment. "No, I don't think I do. I mean, whenever I think of Marty I think of pre-Law school me; kid scared of his dad, and a disappointment to his mom. Post Law me was more intelligent, didn't have to prove anything to anyone but himself. More of a man." He told her.
Kensi nodded. "I understand. I'd prefer to call you Deeks." She smiled at him.
"We're getting married." Deeks grinned at her, before walking into the bathroom.
Kensi was quiet for a moment. "Deeks I was thinking... I don't really want to be engaged."
Deeks froze, knocking almost everything on the bathroom sink over. "I... you don't... well I um, I guess I understand. It's... a big step and I didn't mean to make you feel rushed. We... we can wait. Or we don't... we don't have to get married, if you don't want..." He stuttered, desperately trying to maintain his composure.
"No, no Deeks, God no that's not what I meant! I want to marry you!" Kensi exclaimed.
Some of the color returned to Deeks's face. "You do?" He asked, his voice sounding small.
Kensi's heart broke at the look on his face. She cupped his face in her hands and looked him in the eyes. "Of course I do. Deeks, I love you. I want this more than anything. What I meant, was that I don't want to have a long engagement or anything like that. I want us to get married as soon as we can. I waited with Jack and I don't want to do that again." She explained.
Deeks let out a sigh of relief. "Okay... so what you're saying now is that you wanna marry me right now." Deeks grinned.
"And he's back." Kensi laughed. "Maybe not this second. I don't have a dress and we have nothing sorted out. But I do want to get married soon. And then sign the papers Mrs. Deeks, and then move into this perfect house."
"God I love you, Kensi soon-to-be Deeks." Deeks told her.
"I love you too." Kensi smiled.
i checked a couple wiki websites and they both said Sam's daughter's name is Kamran. hopefully that's right because i honestly don't remember. Leave me a review and lemme know what you think! I love reading your reactions.
