This pairing was suggested by Fowy Pup and will quite possibly be the weirdest pairing I've ever written for. *bows deeply* Thank you for giving me such an… interesting pair…

24. Familiar Pitaya and Arrowroot

The First One and the Other One

The first one sits in a tall chair that is much too large for his small, red body clad in a smooth, pinstriped suit. His dark eyes watch the shadows as the other one steps through the curtains, blindingly white against the black drapes. A tall hat adorns this new character's head and a long nose protrudes from a shape that is more or less his face.

The first one inquires the other's name and gets a disbelieving snort in return, followed by a somewhat insulted, "Fool! The fact you do not know me tragic. I am the legendary weapon desired by all for my stunning power and earth shattering lectures. I went to war with King Arthur, solved crimes with the great Sherlock Holmes, fought battles with Akuma and Noah amongst exorcist comrades, and saved fourteen lives during the Black Plague. I am the Great Holy Sword Excalibur."

The first one says nothing, only bites his tongue so nothing too harsh comes out. He then asks why this 'Excalibur' has entered the mind he calls home.

The other twirls his cane, tips his hat and pulls himself onto the chair opposite the first one. With a flick of his stubby arm, he hooks a table standing a few inches away and slides it between them using his cane. A red and black chessboard sits on the mahogany table top and he scoots a pawn forward.

The first one releases a long sigh and moves one of his own pawns. He tells the other one he's happy to play a round but warns he's a rather ruthless opponent. He's no stranger to winning and has often driven other players to the brink of insanity while deep in competition.

The other one sticks his large nose in the air, sniffing disdainfully that he rather doubts it before inquiring if they've both met.

The first one narrows his eyes, watching a chess piece slide across the board before he moves another to meet it, answering he doesn't believe so, he would've remembered. This last part is said under his breath in an annoyed growl.

The other one hums quietly to himself, a somewhat annoying tune, and taps his cane against the floor identical to the chess board. Then he speaks again, ranting on about a man he knew long ago who his current chess partner reminds him of. A rather dark man who corrupted himself, killed others he knew, and changed the world.

A knight slides across the board, taking out a bishop as the other one continues on, speaking of how calm the world was before just awhile back when something happened and the sensation of madness tainted the atmosphere once more. He looks up at his demon eyed opponent, his own black eyes appearing to laugh slightly as he concludes, "That man… That feeling of madness is who you remind me of."

The first one frowns, raises a long, knobby finger and scrapes his queen diagonally across the checkered playing field. Glancing at the other one, he hisses, "Checkmate."

The other one says nothing to this, inspects the board for any error or way out and finds none. He then does his best to shrug his nearly nonexistent shoulders and declares the game is for fools anyway. He then sees himself out and disappears within the shadows, leaving a chuckling red demon in his wake.

...

A white haired weapon yawns loudly at the kitchen table and around a spoonful of cereal tells his meister he had the craziest dream in the world that night.

A/N: So that was interesting to write, but I enjoyed doing so. ^^

Yes, there was a D. Gray-man reference in there. Long live Lavi!
