A\N: Sorry for the lack of updates and the long time frame between each new update. I got my computer back and hopefully I can update all my stories and shorten the time frame between them.
"Taka we're here."
Abe popped his eyes open so fast that his migraine hit him almost instantaneously. They've arrived in New York for his surgery that he would get this same week. He wished that he could just get up and continue his regular life right after the surgery. But he wanted to be the most calm and rational during this time period in his life that he did not ask for. It's been a day since he left Saitama, and about 13 hours since he arrived in America. Of course, he was a bit uncomfortable being in an entirely different country, but he had to get rid of it as much as he could hence his dreadful migraine.
"Ah, I wish I had learned a bit more English back at home, " said Abe's mom as she looked at the GPS on her phone. "Good thing our neighbor's cousin knows a bit of English."
They were going to stay with their neighbor's relative while Abe gets installed into the medical facility. He felt a little weary about leaving his mom to someone he never met before let alone in this foreign country, but they had to accept every opportunity they could.
"Mom, even if you did know a bit more English, you'd still be too shy to talk to the Americans." Abe mentions as they look for a way to catch a taxi.
"That's why I have you Taka, maybe you'll attract us some young ladies." She said smiling proudly. He hopes she doesn't believe the popularity he has gained since joining the baseball team isn't entirely because of his looks. Most of their fans are their parents.
"HEY!" A Caucasian woman holding a child hollers towards them and approaches them. " Ryousuke did mention the kid was in a wheelchair."
He looks at his mom who doesn't understand and is trying to jumble her words.
"Yes we are." Abe says. He didn't know much English but he understood she knew the guy who was supposed to pick them up.
"Good. RYOSUKE!"
The guy who shows up looked very Americanized but you could tell he was Japanese. "Welcome! My name is Ryosuke. Nice to meet you."
"Nice to meet you. "Abe and his mom reply in Japanese.
He takes them straight to the hospital and him and Abe's mom chat about the differences in countries. The Caucasian woman sat next to Abe with her kid in a booster seat separating us.
"What's your name?" The little girl asked staring me down. She was obviously curious about me, a foreigner who looked nothing like her sitting next to her.
"Takaya."
"That's a weird name." She says. "Mommy why is he weird?"
"Amy don't talk about him in front of him it's rude." She shuts her up by shoving a sippy cup in her mouth. " Good thing they don't know much English."
"Just a ritter bit I can." Abe says.
She chuckles emberassed of her child. "Sorry about that."
When we arrive the doctors waiting for them bring in a different wheelchair and his mom spends about five minutes of their time not understanding why they can't use the wheelchair she spent so much on back in Japan.
Abe sighs and after sitting comfortably in the new wheelchair checks his phone for any new updates. Of course Mihashi hasn't sent a single text back since he sent a meme expressing how he hates the situation. After that he hasn't sent a single update about the team's progress or whether or if they got lucky enough to get new members. He sighs. He really misses being on the team and its times like these that playing baseball to him was as much of a necessity as food and water.
"BEEP."
Before he could even open his cellphone, the doctors start rolling him onto an elevator and Abe is stationed into his room before he even knew it.
"This is his room." Said the doctor, and Ryousuke translating for him. "Please settle in, the surgery will be this weekend. He is allowed to roam around the wing only under surveillance, and the courtyard can only be accessed during the daytime."
After Ryousuke translated the last few things my mom needed to know, he decides to immediately settle on the bed. Its been a long day and all Abe could think about is laying down and seeing any news as well as a little bit of YouTube.
After finally getting on the bed he checks his phone to find a text from Hanai.
Hey bud, how you hangin'?
Mihashi wasn't doing so good and I highly doubt he'll get used to it. Tell me when to call you, and I'll update you a bit about over here in Japan.
Abe makes a tiny fistbump, finally somebody with some sense here! He was beginning to think he will know nothing about the team the whole time he's here!
"Taka, Ryousuke and I are going to go eat dinner and bring the suitcases to his place. Are you gonna ba alright?"
"Ya mom, I mean I understand enough English to get by, heck, maybe I'll find someone who can translate for me." He says changing the channels of the T.V hanging from the wall.
"Okay, I'll be back tomorrow if I don't come back on time before visiting hours are over." She says setting my suitcase next to me. "I'll call a nurse to help you unpack."
"Nah I'm good. See ya mom." With her English? She'll just waste her time.
Right when she leaves he quickly takes out his cellphone and starts dialing Hanai's number. The phone rings until it hits voicemail and Abe annoyed quickly google the timezone difference.
"Crap, it's 3 am in Japan." He sighs and lays his head back on the pillow. Guess he'll just take a nap or something.
"ABE! I'M SO SORRY! I COULDN'T DO IT IN THE END I'M SORRY WE LOST EVERY GAME."
"What?! ARE YOU SERIOUS?! YOU IDIOT!"
"I'M SORRY!"
"Wow Abe, you're such a jerk. You broke his legs just because of that"
"That's horrible!"
"N-no I'm the one with broken legs!"
"Mr. Takaya."
"Mr. Takaya?"
Abe opens his eyes to see a dark-skinned women stand next to him. "I've brought you dinner. How are you feeling?"
Abe rubs his migraine that begins to spread across his forehead. "Gewd. Thanks."
"You can go on your wheelchair a bit longer, there's about 30 minutes before you have to back in your room."
"Thanks."
She smiles and walks out of the room after setting him on the chair. Abe begins to roll through the halls passing by a few nurses and an eldery man walking ever so slowly with his cane. He sighs and looks out the window. That must be the courtyard. He rolls onto an elevator and a person presses the button for them. After being assisted through the door he rolls unto the sunset of New York and the warm rays of the summer sun. So he'll be rolling through this everyday while he recovers huh?
"No one else is here huh. I must have token a long nap." He says in Japanese. He hopes that no one could understand him through the glass of the windows atleast as he speaks his own language.
"Taka-chan?"
Abe whips his wheelchair around to a familiar voice. The girl before him wearing the hospital dress and casts on her hands stood before him. She was disheveled with bags under her eyes and her hair covering her face almost to an entirety. But he knew instantly who it was and he felt his heart almost explode in his chest and he felt almost feelings in his legs from shock.
"Yona…"
They stand in front of eachother, amazed by eachother's presence here in a hospital courtyard of New York. There they were.
The aftermath of the girl he witnessed break down.
