I DON'T OWN OOFURI OR ANYTHING ELSE MENTIONED IN THIS STORY. EVERYTHING ELSE IS NONCANNON AND COMPLETELY FANFIICTION.
Suzuki's alarm blared and she found herself jump at the second ring, and she was already in her sweats, and flopping her socks on.
It's been about a week since Suzuki unofficially joined the team. She followed the practices diligently, and she found herself at the peak of her life where she felt happy and carefree.
Her phone's ringtone rang the notification tone she put especially for Mihashi, and she knew immediately it was him. He sent her a link to a you-tube video of a funny baseball antic, and she was laughing out-loud her voice echoing the hallways as she walked to the dining room.
"Good morning Suzu-kun! You're loud as ever." Ayami, her cousin, stated as she was setting the breakfast plates.
"Ah! Ayami, I won't be going home tonight for dinner, I'm going to eat ramen." Suzuki said, as she was in the middle of a text.
"Is that so? Do you need any money?"
"It's fine." Suzuki replied, her attention onto her cellphone. Suzuki saved up her allowances especially for eating out.
"Okay, just call me when you get out."
"Uh-huh."
"Mom! Um c-can I have money for today?" Mihashi chanted eagerly, as he literally vibrated on his chair.
"Ren you used up your allowance already?"
Mihashi gasped taken aback. Mom had given him 1000 yen for the week, and he just remembered he used most of them up on an application on his phone.
"Come on, hun, cut him some slack." Mihashi's dad mentioned, as he took a bite of the food. "Suzuki right?"
Mihashi jumped embarrassed. "D-dad how did you know?!"
"You left your phone in the bathroom last night, and she was in your notifications."
"Huh?!" His mom leaped at him. "Ren do you actually have a girlfriend?"
"N-no it's n-not like that at all!" Mihashi said really fast as he turned completely red. "She's the new team m-member..."
"Ah," Mihashi's mom officially sat down to eat. "I always knew that boy was actually a girl! Women's intuition!"
"Come on hun, you were completely fawning over how handsome she was the other day," Dad laughed at her.
"I knew the whole time!"
"G-gotta go mom!" Mihashi grabbed his bag and dashed towards the door, before pivoting his feet and returning to his mother still jogging. "P-please mom!"
"Fine," She sighed, before handing her a bill from her wallet. "Please make sure to keep track of how much you spend this time!"
"T-t-t-t-thank you mom!" He chanted happily before dashing once again towards the door.
Ah, the youth.
"Alright kiddos, today's the day! We're gonna march right over to the principal, and we're gonna get us a new member!"
"Yeah!" They all replied with an enthusiastic chant, and Suzuki found herself chanting as well.
"But first, we have to initiate our new member, Oshima! Come up here."
Suzuki stood up and stood next to momoe. "Sit on this here platform for me."
She sat, wondering what was to happen, and she watched as the other boys were watching her like a crowd and she jerked a bit.
"Oshima, you are one of the most valuable players we've recieved since forming this team. We have a good future ahead of us, and it's thanks to your contribution we're able to move forward."
Everyone in the crowd nodded in agreement, even Mihashi who had finally accepted her as a team member.
"And so, Oshima-san, we ask of you to join us, not only as a player, but as our contemporary starting catcher. I've asked you all to hang in there, as I had this whole issue covered. As we walk into the principal's office, Oshima-san will be accepted as the starting catcher despite the current rules, because Oshima will no longer be any different than you."
"Huh?" Hanai, mentioned. "Wait Momokan-"
The sounds of scissors echoed behind Suzuki's ears, she felt the world stop for a moment as she tried to assess the situation. Before she could react, she felt a razor begin to shave the back of her head.
Everyone was taken aback, left without words, and even Momoe's dog who just stood staring at her owner who was cutting Suzuki's hair shorter than it already was. At least short enough, in the style of a boy's hair, making it a lot more convincing that Suzuki was actually a boy.
Suzuki, sat, on a platform unladylike, in her male practice uniform, and all the boys stood shocked as Suzuki was transformed completely into a boy.
"Waddaya think?"
"HAH?!"
"No way!" Izumi shouted leaping towards them.
"Momokan what have you done?!" Tajima shrieked as his image of hot tomboy was shattered.
"Are you serious Momokan?!" Saekaguchi mentioned as well.
"Well this was my plan." Momo said, as she dusted the hairs off of Suzuki's back.
"This will never fool the principal Momokan!" Hanai retorted. "Oshima's files have her as a female!"
"But it will convince him, the principal is well aware that the baseball team has benefited the school since it's creation." She put her hands on Suzuki's shoulders. "He'll hold it a secret as well."
Suzuki stood up lifeless, almost tripping on a rock.
"You cut her hair without her permission!" Hanai shouted. "Look at her! She's so shocked she confused Mihashi as her bag."
Everyone turns to see Mihashi voluntarily sitting on her back like a backpack.
"Cut the crap already!" Hanai shouts angrily, resulting in both of them returning back to their senses.
Everyone stood silent for a moment before Izumi, the voluntary icebreaker spoke up. "I agree with Hanai coach, this is completely insane. Life isn't gonna work out so easily for us if we could just dress a female all-star and claim her as our team member."
"Alright," Momo sighed, folding her hands under her chest. "All in favor that this is bullshit, raise your hands."
Everyone knew it was a trap, as Momo's dark aura conveyed if they disagreed with her it would mean a death penalty.
"U-um, coach-" Shinooka Chiyo, the team's manager spoke up after hours of being silent. "M-maybe we should let Oshima-san decide for herself.."
Everyone turned their gazes towards Suzuki, who was no sitting criss-cross on the ground.
Suzuki looked away for a moment. Everything seemed to frivolous and out of the ordinary, and way too risky. it was a huge risk for her to even decide to become a member of this team. Before, she would have never stepped foot on the mound. But she had a strong sense of determination that she had to play at all costs. She needed to play, and she felt the sensation in her feet spread across her body.
"I...I want to play." She said, as she stared at her feet. "More than anything, I wan't to be able to score a home-run, in a real match. I want..to catch the toughest balls." She turns her gaze at Mihashi who was now standing next to Sakeaguchi. "So long as this twerp, throws me the hardest he can."
Mihashi's eyes glistened, and he felt a sense of power spread through his body. "Y-yeah!" He replied.
Suzuki stood up, and dusted her rear off before standing before the whole team once again. "Consider me, one of the boys." She said, with the deepest voice possible, and she even remembered to use "ore" for masculinity.
Before the boys can react apalled by her strange behavior, the feeling of determination overpowered everyone at the dugout.
"Let's do it!" Mizutani shouted.
"Seems legit." Sakaeguchi mentioned.
Oki nodded his head in agreement as he looked at Nishihiro who nodded as well. "You can count us in."
Mihashi was nodding vigorously, and the rest of the boys cheered in agreement.
"Wow! Just like an anime!" Tajima cheered, and shook Suzuki's hand. "Let's take this secret to the grave!"
"Now that's going a little too far," Izumi retorted.
"This is still absurd!" Hanai shouted, and he took a look at Suzuki's earnest and innocent face. It reminded him of when he first started playing baseball, and he eventually decided to cave in. "Fine..."
"Alright boys! Single file! To the principal's office!" Momo chanted, and everyone followed like ducklings,
"YAHOO~!"
"Hurry up!" Tajima shouted, as he was already across the street at a small intersection of a not so busy urban neighborhood.
Only Mihashi, Sakaeguchi, Izumi and Suzuki joined Tajima in his invitation for ramen, as everyone else went home after practice.
"The principal sure threw a fit, seemed alot like Hanai's response," Sakaeguchi mentioned to Izumi who was walking next to him, as Mihashi was showing Suzuki a you-tube video using his phone.
"Of course, dude, it was an absurd idea. But he eventually gave in like Momokan mentioned," Izumi replied. "After last year's peak of performance and then our immediate defeat during the summer tournament, Nishiura's gotta give it another try.
"Sucks tho, I really thought we would have new members this year, especially with the little fame we achieved." Sakaeguchi sighed. "Guess Suzuki really was an angel sent from above."
"More like thrown from above." Izumi joked to her sudden appearance.
"Oi, hurry up slugs, " Suzuki pestered clearly having heard Izumi's side comments.
"We got it, we got it."
Suzuki quickly checked her phone. Nana hadn't messaged her since this morning, when she said she was going to the library. Suzuki would have gone with her, but she had practice today, and it seemed like she no longer had time for Nana, and she didn't want to fail to protect her.
"Nana, are you sure you'll be fine?"
It was the first year of high school, and Nana had realized she didn't have any classes with her middle school friends. They had promised they'd all stay together, but they barely contacted each other during the summer, and then the school year began. Only to be discouraged that she was all alone in her class.
"It's fine, " Nana assured. "It gives me a chance to focus on my studies more..." She knew she was only trying to make herself feel better.
But everyone left assured by her comment, as if they never realized she was only saying that but not okay with that.
Where they really her friends this whole time?
It's been about a week, and Nana just studied, and went back home. She had a lot of time in her hands, but nothing to fill it in with. She had seen through mangas, and dramas that high school was supposed to be fun. It seemed worse than middle school.
"Oi, are you really a first year of that school? So tiny.."
Nana just kept walking. Those delinquents were always hanging out next to the school on their bikes. She wasn't sure if they were seniors or just loiterers but she had the urge to report them for it. They'd always make fun of Nana as she came out of school, and she would just ignore it.
Just ignore it Nana, she said to herself.
But then came that day that she was trying so hard to avoid.
She went to the library that day, in hopes that she'll find some new mangas to read. The days seemed so boring now a days, and she at least wanted to live a decent highschool life through her mangas.
"Oi! Chibisuke! You tried to get away from us earlier~"
Oh no. They follwoed her. She knew she should have turned the curve at the arable as if she was normally going home. She gripped the manga she was reading, she was sitting outside the Library before going home.
"Hey, is she deaf?" One of them say.
"Shrimp, you better listen to us or else."
Ignore it, she told herself.
"Hey, why don't we take her by force? Our own personal loli." He snickered.
"She isn't answering by words anyway!" She felt her manga being snatched from her hand, and she witnessed it fly onto the road, immediately being run over.
Oh no. That was a borrowed book! How rude.
Nana felt her throat tighten.
"Awe, look you made her start to cry, did you take away her bottle?"
Nana felt herself crying and she shamed herself from giving in. She wasn't strong enough to stand up to them, and she cried over her failure.
"Cut the bullshit."
"Oi, who are you, pretty boy you better shut the fuck up."
Nana lifted her head to a figure standing in front of the sun-setting horizon. He was wearing a sweatsuit, and a hat.
"Get away." The person said, slowly approaching. "Now."
"Or else what? We ain't scared of you."
Before Nana could react, the person removed his sweatshirt, and threw it towards her, sheathing her vision.
Everything happened quickly, she heard the boys scream in pain, and the sounds of a fight, before the sound of blood dropping to the ground, echoed through her ears, and a drop landing onto her shoes.
Everything went silent, and Nana shook terrified. Everything was dark, and she found herself sobbing.
"On the count of 3, you will close your eyes, and I will take my sweater back. Don't open them until you hear my footsteps disappear."
Nana was terrified, it didn't sound like the voice of the delinquents, it was alot higher-pitched but it was raspy and nonchalant. No emotion, but somehow it soothed her into doing as he said.
"Uwaaa~ that was amazing~!" Tajima cheered as he patted his newly recieved food belly.
"You asked for seconds 3 times and you didnt even pay for it!" Izumi complained, who had no choice but to pay for him.
"What did-ya think Oshima?" Sakaeguchi asked Suzuki, who showed no difference of being extremely full despite that she ordered the same as Tajima.
"The best," Suzuki said with a hint of a smile and Mihashi and Sakaeguchi gazed at her for a moment.
"W-what?"
"N-nothing!" Sakaeguchi replied, who turned to a flustered Mihashi. "It's hard to see her as a girl when she looks like a guy." He whispered and Mihashi nodded in agreement despite not completely understanding.
"Where we headed?" Tajima mentioned.
"Home." Izumi replied.
"Boring!"
"Hey, we dont have all day, " Sakaeguchi complained.
"What's wrong Suzuki?" Izumi looked at her as she looked distant.
"Can we head to the library?"
"What, why?" Tajima complained.
"Stop complaining, you're the one who didn't want to go home." Izumi retorted.
"Cool, I need to look at some magazines, I heard they have even american players there." Sakaeguchi mentioned.
"Really?" Tajima asked completely recovered from his tantrum despite that he thinks libraries are boring. "Cool! I love looking at that stuff."
Suzuki sighed in relief, and Izumi got a hunch of it. What's this kid in a rush for.
"Oiii~, no way!" Tajima shouted as they arrived.
"what?"
"Look! That fight a while back, the legend is real, the bloodstains are still mysteriously fresh!" Tajima chanted as he shivered.
"Looks like jam to me.."Izumi said, leaning down and looking at it himself.
"No way, that's totally blood look!" Sakaeguchi said, as he used a leaf to pick up a smear. "It's so fresh, it's impossible."
Mihashi was shivering terrified, before looking at Suzuki who had already entered the store. "S-suzuki!" Mihashi shouted behind her, and rushing to open the door only to find she had locked it.
"What? Suzuki what are you doing?!" Tajima shouted and pounding on the glass window, as she disappears in the bookshelves.
"Guys, this isn't anything paranormal, this is a final showdown." Izumi says and they all turn to him as he picks up a paper he found on the ground. "We have your pretty boy, come now or he's dead."
Everyone came to their senses. "S-Suzuki's in there! She's walking into a crossfire!"
"Oshima!" Izumi shouts pounding on the door. "Where the hell are the owners?!"
"What if they killed them to get them out of the way?!" Tajima shrieked.
"That's stupid!" Sakaeguchi shouted, clearly terrified now.
"C-call the police!" Mihashi interjected.
"No way! Oshima's in there, do you want to risk her chances of entering the team?!" Izumi replied angrily, only terrifying Mihashi more.
"In any case! Nishiura will be disqualified from the tournament if word gets out.."Sakaeguchi sighs in despair.
"Fuck it!" Izumi drops his backpack and starts heading into the alley next to the library.
"Where are you going?!" Sakaeguchi shouted.
"Backing Oshima up! Something tells me she was anticipating this!" He shouts. "Mihashi, what are you gonna do if they kill Oshima?!"
Mihashi felt a sudden realization, as Abe flashed through his mind. No, if anything happens to Suzuki.. if something happens again.. if I lose them both..
Mihashi started running towards Izumi.
"You're insane!" Sakaeguchi shouts as Tajima follows behind.
"Yeah we are, ya wimp!" Izumi shouts at him as they turn the corner.
Sakaeguchi clenched his fists before, running into the alley, giving himself in.
The library was silent, and Suzuki stood in the middle, glancing everywhere in her vision.
"Looks like you bit the bait, pretty boy."
A delinquent appeared from the shadows of the shelves to face her.
"Where is she."
"Don't worry, we only gave her a little scratch, after all, we had to make you follow the tracks." The delinquent had orange hair, shaved into a Mohawk, and he had piercings all over him, and Suzuki could remember he must have gotten a few more since she last encountered him.
"Oshima!" The backdoor was busrted open, and the 3 boys pushed themselves through.
"What are you doing here?!" Suzuki shouted.
"We should be asking you the same thing!" Izumi replied.
"S-suzu...ki...?" Suzuki turned her eyes to the top of a bookshelves, where one of them was holding Nana, with a noose around her neck that connected to the middle of the ceiling.
No. This wasn't supposed to happen. Nana wasn't supposed to see her that way, these assholes weren't supposed to be avenging themselves. she had thought she silently gave them a lesson.
"Oshima huh? I heard of that name..." The delinquent had said.
No. Don't say it.
"Ah, are you hiding yourself from your friends?" He approached Suzuki. "You can tame a tiger, but you can't take away it's hunger.." He snickered to her ear.
"Ladies in gentleman this man is a coldblooded killer!" The delinquent announced to ensure an echo.
"It...was you Suzuki?" Izumi mentioned, with a surprised expression. "You were the guy who killed those delinquents?"
The delinquent clapped slowly. "Coldblooded my friends."
"H-he didn't. He saved that girl!" Tajima mentioned.
"Nothing changed the fact that you murdered my comrades." The delinquent spat, face to face with Suzuki. "You will pay for it."
"N-no.." Nana sobbed as she gripped the noose, and Suzuki felt her every being shake vigorously as it attempted to remain sane.
"It hurts to lose your friends...wanna find out the horrendous feeling?" He said ominously.
She didn't want Mihashi to see her this way, she didn't want Nana to see her this way. She had no other choice, she had to do something. She had to protect her new friends.
"Die now.. it's either you, or everyone you care about."
There was now another one standing behind the three boys with a bar.
"Nee, Suzuki-chan, take this."
"What's this?"
"It's a bat. You need this in order to play offensively."
"I fight with this?"
"Theoretically. But always remember, You need to always control yourself."
"What if I can't?"
"You'll never return."
Suzuki felt her world caving in as a shout echoed through her ears, and her eyes pierced the room.
