Chapter 2: Gunshots

Just to clarify some things, Kouta has the same voice as the dub Alucard. Why? Because its awesome. And I'll try to explain how Kouta fits into the events of Hellsing ultimate. I also plan to write a fic about him in the events of Hellsing ultimate.

Bando moved slowly towards the horned girl who was digging in the sand for a seashell to give to Kouta. She didn't even notice him until he stood right next to her.

"Nyu?"

She looked up at him and he began to kneel down next to her. He grabbed a fistful of her hair and said:

"Oh yeah. Lets see what you got!" He shouted, frightening Nyu.

"Uh Bando. Are you sure this is the right girl?" His partner said.

Bando pointed his gun furiously at him and glared at him.

"Shut your damn mouth! How many girls have horns?" He yelled.

Bando redirected his attention to the tightened Nyu. He raised his gun and hit her over the head... Hard.

"Heh... Maybe that'll motivate you to fight."

Dammit Bando! We don't wanna provoke her! Do you want her to kill us?" The partner shouted.

"Shut the fuck up and quit acting like a pussy!" Bando responded. "This is coming from the same guy who thought she was the wrong target!"

Nyu fell to the ground unconscious. The sweet innocent Nyu had been replaced by a stone cold killer.

Lucy had awoken.

Kouta, wandered the streets looking for Nyu but with no success. He eventually decided "screw it" and defied all gravity to run up the side of a building. When he reached the top, he scanned the town, but when he saw the beach, he saw that 2 soldiers had guns pointed at Nyu. Sweet, innocent, Nyu.

This pissed Kouta off.

He used his strength to jump from rooftop to rooftop all the way to the beachhead. When he arrived he stood next to Nyu, or rather Lucy.

Lucy saw him, and her jaw dropped Kouta, the man she loved, stood next to her, looking very pissed. If he was here to kill her, she wouldn't stop him. She was also suprised the his appearance. His red duster, his long, jet black hair. He was dressed like some sort of "Devil May Cry" character. And even his red eyes and sharp fangs. Wait a minute... Weren't his eyes blue? Wow... He's also pretty tall.

"Dogs... Miserable and pathetic dogs." Kouta said.

"You attack the weak and innocent to make yourself seem like a big man. You are merciless to those that would do no harm to you. I can't stand your kind! You don't even have the self respect to be called a man!" Kouta yelled.

"The fuck did you just say to me?" Bando shouted. He turned towards his partner. "Orders were to kill all witnesses. Right?"

"Uh... No, Bando. We'd have to radio command for this." His partner said.

"Fuck that. Let's just kill him. Ready your weapon."

The other soldier hesitantly raised his gun.

"Fire!"

The bullets tore through Kouta like Swiss cheese. They had blown his cheek open, shot his left arm off, and even exposed his ribcage. He just stood there and took it.

When the firing ceased, it looked like Kouta had died at the hands of a very pissed off firing squad. He fell over onto his back, limp.

Lucy's jaw dropped. Kouta, the only man she ever loved, was dead. Now she would never get to apologize to him. She would never get to be with him. She wanted to cry, but instead the was pissed. She was going to fucking annihilate these A-team wannabes. She looked down at Kouta, whose eyes were hidden by his hair. They began to glow a very deep red.

"Heheheheheheh... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!" The blood from his wounds began to return to their original spots. His hair began to wave in the air like multiple cobras during a snake charming routine. Black energy surrounded him and he began to materialize into a black figure and slowly back to normal.

"You'll need more than guns to stop me!" His wounds had fully healed at this point.

He reached into his coat and pulled out the Cassul. He pointed it at Bando and fired one shot which destroyed his mp5. Bando pulled his sidearm out and emptied the entire clip into Kouta, but it was futile. Kouta fired another shot which blew Bando's arm clean off. And he did the same to the other. Bando fell to the bloody sand, writhing in pain. His stumps were becoming covered in sand.

Lucy couldn't believe it. Kouta was shooting people. He was so sweet that she loved him but yet he was laughing sadistically and killing people. So she ran. She ran as fast as her legs could go. She ran all the way to the inn's doorstep. She sat in front of the door and hugged her knees.

"That can't be Kouta! It just can't be him! Kouta would never kill anyone!" Lucy wept until she couldn't cry anymore. The sight of Kouta like this broke her heart. She then allowed herself to sleep and Nyu to awaken.

Back at the beach, Kouta stood over an armless Bando, gun pointed at his head. Suddenly a bullet went through the vampire's skull and out the other end. His partner had just shot Kouta. But of course it failed miserably. Kouta just began to slowly stroll over to the partner who continued firing.

"Monster!"

Kouta gave a sadistic smile.

"Yeah, I get that a lot, but you attacked me. You stood against me. So what are you?"

"A man?

"A dog?"

"A monster?"

The terrified soldier slowly brought his pistol to his own head and pulled the trigger. Brain and skull matter splattered all over the sand.

"Pussed out like a bitch."

Kouta looked at the sky and saw a break in the rain clouds and smirked.

"What a perfect night."

He made his way back to the inn, wondering if Nyu made it back okay. He saw that she was huddled up next to the entryway. She looked up at him. His red eyes glowed in the darkness of night. She extended her hand, palm open. Inside her hand was a pink seashell. Completely intact. Kouta took the shell and slipped it in his coat pocket. Kouta was yet again, surprised by her gesture. He smiled slightly.

Nyu began to cry because she was scared that Bando was going to get her. She ran up to Kouta and hugged him in order to feel safe from Bando. Kouta returned her hug by wrapping just one arm around her. He wasn't a very affectionate guy after all.

Back at the beach, a homeless girl and a small Labrador puppy had found an armless Bando lying on the bloody sand. The girl was had a thin body, as if she hadn't eaten in a while, she was wearing a large yellow sweater but no pants, But the length of the sweater would make people think she was just wearing really short pants. She had chestnut eyes and long black hair, and an innocent face that hid a dark past.

"Hold still, I'll help you!" The girl said in a hurried tone.

She ran to get some nearby rope from the makeshift hut she made to stay in. She came back and kneeled next to the near, unconscious Bando, who's Vision began to fade. She tied the ropes around his bloody stumps as a tourniquet.

"What's your name, kid?" Bando asked

"Mayu, mister... Uh..."

"Bando... My names Bando" he then passed out from blood loss. With that, Mayu went to find medical attention.

Back at the inn, Kouta was drying himself off, while Nyu sat behind the table.

Kouta wondered who's this woman was. She shows up and then the cops come looking for her. This is all pretty strange. Kouta noticed that her clothes were pretty wet. He got her a yellow long sleeved shirt.

"Here put this on."

"Nyu?"

Kouta realized that he would have to change her himself. It didn't really bother him. After all, he had to change an unconscious Seras Victoria into her pajamas when she first arrived at Hellsing. He got behind Nyu and grabbed the tail of her white shirt and lifted it above her head, exposing her bare breasts. He grabbed the yellow shirt and slid it down her body. When he finished he moved to her underwear. Nyu lay on her back. If anyone saw what was going on, they might think they were about to have sex, Nyu however was completely clueless. As he brought her pants up, something very unfortunate happened.

Yuka stood at the doorway staring at them quizzically.

"Hey. Her clothes are wet. Believe me or not." Kouta said. "There over there." Kouta pointed to the wet shirt on the floor in he corner.

"I see. I'll take it from here Kouta." Yuka said as she put the fresh pair of shorts on Nyu.

"Why are you here, anyway?" Kouta asked.

"I forgot to give you the key to the inn." She said as she set the key on the table. She turned and faced Kouta.

"I'm glad Nyu is okay." She said.

"She was attacked by a couple of crazed soldiers who thought she was some escaped serial killer." Kouta said simply.

"What?! She was attacked by soldiers?!" Yuka asked. "What happened to them?"

"I killed them." He stated flatly. "Well... I shot the arms off one of them, and the other killed himself out of fear."

Yuka just kept her mouth shut after that statement.

"Nyu was in danger so he had to defend her." Yuka thought, trying to reassure herself. "I'm sure Kouta has had to kill people before."

Chief Kurama walked down the narrow metal hallways of the diclonius research facility. There was an eery silence. it was so quiet, people in the next room could hear his shoes against the hard metal floor.

Lucy was still out there somewhere. That was the main problem with him. He reached the experimentation chamber for diclonius number seven, Dubbed "Nana" by Kurama himself.

Inside was a girl who looked to be around fourteen chained to a wall, covered in blood. She was propped on her knees knees in pain.

This girl is Nana.

Nana looked up slowly, blood trickling down her face. Her expression looked like she had been shot repeatedly in the torso.

"Pa…pa" she said slowly.

Kurama released the chains from her wrists. Nana fell to the floor but she quickly caught herself. She examined her wrists and then looked at Kurama, wondering what he was doing here.

"We need your help, Nana. We need you to find and kill another diclonius." Kurama stated.

Nana was beside herself that should help out and make her Papa happy but there was a problem.

"I don't think I could kill anyone, Papa." She said sadly.

"That's ok. Just look for her and let us know if you find her." Kurama said. He was hoping this would work. He didn't want to throw away the lives of more soldiers for the capture of just one diclonius, but he didn't want to lose Nana either. He cared deeply for her and it would be unbearable if he lost her.

Kouta lay on his futon, trying to readjust his sleeping regimen for the nighttime. He had gotten so used to sleeping during the day. He was also seriously considering setting up his coffin in there to sleep in. He never hated the sun as much as Alucard did. He just didn't see much of it anymore. He had removed his duster, his leather vest, boots and socks. He just lay there in his pants and gloves.

"God I'm hungry. I could use a bite to drink." He said. He stood up from his futon, walked out the door towards the kitchen. He approached the fridge where he had stored medical blood. He had showed it to Yuka so she wouldnt have to worry about him being hungry. The sight of so much blood had creeped her out a little but she had steeled herself.

Kouta had brought few possessions with him to Japan. He had his guns, a vampiric sword he called "Reaper", a few books, including Brahm Stokers Dracula and a sketch pad. The whole reason he decided to attend college was because there was a large amount of vampire activity in the region. He thought that he might as well attend since Yuka was going as well.

Kouta sharpened his teeth and bit down into the blood pack, slowly taking in the red liquid. Blood had a sort of metallic taste to it. That is, for humans at least. When he emptied it he threw it into the trash. He slowly made his way through the halls. He peeked into Nyu's room to see if she was asleep. She was, but the covers were below her feet. Kouta thought she might catch a cold if she didn't cover up. He crept over to Nyu slowly so he would avoid awaking her from her slumber. He grabbed the blanket and slowly pulled it up to her shoulders. He didn't know why he was being so nice. This was out of character for him. Maybe she reminded him of Kanae.

Kouta made his way back to his room quietly. He slipped back into his futon and shut his eyes.

"I swear, if I have one more restless night, I'm setting up the coffin." Kouta thought. Soon he drifted off to sleep.

Kouta slowly opened his eyes to see the sun was up. He turned back over and he felt something press up against him. He removed the covers to see that Nyu had snuck into his futon to sleep with him sometime after he fell asleep.

"Nyu, why did you slip into my bed?"

"Nyu!" She squealed. Kouta had no idea what the hell she meant but he just went with it. She wrapped her arms around him and nuzzled her face into his bare chest.

Kouta decided he should just get up already. He got dressed in a black t-shirt and went to the kitchen, got out a bowl and spoon and emptied an entire blood pack into it. He didnt know how to cook since he never ate food but he at least poured a glass of milk for Nyu. He brought his blood bowl out in front of the living room and set it on the coffee table in front of the tv. He switched on the television and began to flip through channels and just settled on a rerun of "Supernatural". Nyu just sat next to him sipping the milk and wondering why Jenson ackles was acting like a dog but she still giggled at it like a school girl. Yuka had called and said she was bringing over breakfast and clothes for Nyu.

Just as Dean was about to shoot a pigeon for shitting on his car, there was a knock at the door. Kouta stood up from the couch and walked over to the Japanese sliding door. He slid it open and saw that Yuka had come with a few bags.

"Good morning Kouta. Here's the clothes I brought for Nyu. But this time I'll be the one to dress her. " Yuka said, mentioning how she caught them last night.

"That's good. I'm pretty sure none of my clothes would fit her." Kouta said. He was just as tall as Alucard was so his t-shirt on Nyu would mean it would go all the way to her knees. When she wore his duster it dragged on the ground.

Yuka took Nyu to go get changed into something different than the orange shirt and shorts. She dressed Nyu in an orange skirt, a pink long sleeved shirt, a red tank top, and a green two tailed hat to cover her horns, and purple boots.

"Cute..." Kouta said plainly

"Kouta I was thinking about it and I don't think it's safe for you and Nyu to live here alone. So is it ok if I move in?" Yuka knew he was more than capable of protecting Nyu but she was looking for an excuse to move in. She just wanted to spend as much time with him as she could. Kouta knew from the get-go about her feelings for him.

"Fine. There's plenty of rooms available." Kouta answered.

"That's great!" Yuka said happily. "Anyway I'm going to go make breakfast for Nyu and by that bloody bowl I assume you already ate- I mean drank?"

"That's right. I can eat human food since I am the perfect vampire, but a regular vampire can only drink blood, not eat food." Kouta explained. "Anyway, I'm gonna go start cleaning."

"Why not just have your bats do it again like last night?" Yuka asked quizzically.

"It gives me something to do. I wanna occupy my time while at this inn. If I don't, I'll be bored out of my skull"

Kouta shut off the television and began to walk out into the hallway with a rag in hand. He started scrubbing the ground while his mind wandered.

"It's been two years since the Millennium incident. I wonder if Alucard is ever gonna return." Kouta thought.

Yuka strolled out with an extra bucket in hand and set it next to him beside the grandfather clock with Nyu following her. Nyu had watching intensely at Kouta, observing his motions with the wet rag. She stepped up to Yuka.

"Nyu." She said as she pointed to herself.

"Yes Nyu?" Yuka asked.

Nyu began to move her hand in circles in the same fashion as Kouta when he was scrubbing.

"You wanna help clean?" Yuka said with a smile. Nyu was a beautiful and innocent girl and the way she looked would make men flock to her like seagulls to breadcrumbs at a beachside cafe, but Yuka wasn't scared that Kouta would fall in love with her. He didn't seem the type to go for mentally impaired women. But she still thought Nyu was adorable. Just seeing the way she wanted to help with the cleaning, Yuka could tell she was a sweet person.

"NYU!" Nyu squealed while smiling.

"Then wait right here. I'll go get you a rag." Yuka said as she left.

Nyu kneeled next to Kouta and began to watch him intently again. As Kouta began to move back to scrub the area near his knees, his upper-chest length hair brushed across Nyu's nose, causing her to wrinkle her nose and sneeze cutely.

"Gasundheit"

Nyu ran her fingers through Kouta's hair. She fondled his long, straight, well-maintained hair. Kouta simply glanced at her and resumed cleaning. Eventually she buried her face in the crook of his neck with his hair hanging over her head.

"She's like a child."

Yuka walked out towards the two and she stopped the moment she saw Nyu playing with Kouta's hair. Nyu parted his hair in a way so that her face was exposed with the cutest little grin ever. Yuka snickered at Nyu's strange behavior.

"She just... Really likes my hair." Kouta said.

"That's just adorable." Yuka said as she began to pat Nyu on the head. Yuka handed the rag to Nyu and showed her how to wipe the floor properly.

"Hey, Kouta. I'm sorry to leave you so soon, but I need to go get my things to move in and some groceries as well."

"I can handle Nyu. Don't worry. It's just like a 3 year old in the body of a teenage woman." Kouta reassured her.

"I'll be quick so don't worry." Yuka said as she stepped out the door and slid it shut behind her.

Mayu was walking through the streets of Kamakura with her little puppy behind her. She had an umbrella with the words "Maple Inn" engraved on the handle. She was going to be nice and return the umbrella to them.

She soon reached the steps of the inn and examined the umbrella closer.

"I'm sure this is the place." Mayu said.

She began to step up the stairs and she looked at the scenery around her.

"Such a beautiful place. I wonder who lives here."

Mayu knocked on the door.

The door was opened by a curious Nyu. Who was this new girl? What was she holding in her hand? What was that furry creature that was following her?

"Nyu?"

"Umm... Hello." Mayu greeted.

"Who is it?" A voice came from the hallway.

Kouta stepped out to see Mayu at the doorway, holding an umbrella.

"The address on this umbrella said that it belonged here and I wanted to return it." Mayu explained as she handed it to Kouta.

"This is Yuka's. she must've dropped it last night. Thanks." Kouta said

"I would've returned it last night but there was this injured soldier that desperately needed help." Mayu said.

This statement caught Kouta off guard. She was obviously referring to the 2 soldiers from the previous night. Who else could it've been?

"What happened to him?" Kouta asked.

"You're not going to believe it but he was lying on the beach with both his arms missing. He had a partner but he was already dead."

"Hey, can I ask you some questions in the house? I think I know the guy who you're talking about."

Yuka had a suitcase in one hand and some grocery bags in the other. She reached the steps of the Maple Inn and began to stroll up the stairs.

"Oh my god, this is amazing! I feel like I'm married to him already. I'm getting groceries, I'm living with him, we have a child with us... Well... She's childlike." Yuka thought happily while blushing.

She kept walking up the steps, thinking about how she's going to get Kouta to fall in love with her. When she reached the steps of the Inn she saw that there were a different pair of shoes other than Kouta's boots. She especially took notice of the small puppy that was resting while tied up to the doorway.

"Whose dog is that?" Yuka asked herself.

She entered the maple inn and began to head towards the dining area. She stopped only once to set a little music box next to the grandfather clock. She opened the door and saw Kouta and Mayu sitting at the table. She dropped the bags and began to twitch slightly.

"More girls?" Yuka said in a slightly irritated tone.

"This girl seems to know one of the soldiers last night." Kouta said.

"Yeah, this one soldier had lost his arms and the other one was already dead." Mayu said.

Nyu was washing the ground while she was saying Nyu in a sing-song voice. She paused for a second and noticed the music box next to the grandfather clock. She picked it up and tried to figure out what this strange object was. She was a very curious girl.

She stood up with the music box in hand and eyes it while she began to walk forward. However she didn't notice that she left her wet rag on the wet wooden floor. She accidentally stepped on it, causing her to slip back and fall flat on the ground and hit her head.

The sound of Nyu hitting her head went all the way to the dining room.

"What was that?" Yuka said suprised.

The group stepped out into the hallway and saw that Nyu had fallen and hit her head, the water bucket had spilled and the music box was open, humming a very familiar tune. The pink haired diclonius sat up and rubbed her head, however this was not Nyu. Lucy had awoken.

"Aww... The water spilled. Nyu are you okay?" Yuka asked.

Lucy turned around and immediately took notice of Kouta who was standing behind Yuka. She immediately remembered last night. How Kouta shot the soldiers while laughing maniacally, how they had shot him so many times but he regenerated from it. She turned her head away from him and the others.

"Kouta…"

Lucy walked away from the group, slowly and made her way towards the door.

"Where is she going?" Yuka asked.

"Probably for another walk, she found her way home last night. I'm sure she'll be fine. Besides, her horns are covered up." Kouta said while head picked up the music box on the ground.

"Horns?" Mayu asked.

"Oh nothing." Yuka said while she tried to force a smile.

"What's that?" Mayu asked, referring to the music box Kouta had in his hand.

"Oh yeah, I've been meaning to give this to you. You left it here last time you were in japan." Yuka said.

"I left this here?" Kouta asked as he closed the music box, effectively silencing the beautiful melody.

Lucy was sitting on the stone steps that she and Kouta looked out as kids.

"Kouta. What happened to you? Why are you killing?" She thought to herself. She didn't know what to do? Would he ever forgive her? Would he ever love her? Would they ever be together? Questions rang through her head, but the biggest one was why Kouta was like this. She never wanted him to begin killing like she had done when she was little.

"Excuse me?" An feminine voice asked her.

It was nana who had a bag with a radio in it.

"I'm going home. And you're coming with me."
