Chapter 3: Fledgling

Mayu had left the inn in a hurry with her dog Wanta. When Yuka had asked her if she could get an address or number, she simply ignored it and left.

Kouta and Yuka were just sitting in the dining room. Kouta was reading his copy of "Dracula" whilst Yuka sat silently on the other side of the table. She was starting to wonder if she could ever get Kouta to love her. Maybe he already did and he was just shy. No, he wasn't the shy type. She wondered what their kids would look like. Would they be vampires or humans? It came to mind that Kouta probably didn't seem like he wanted kids. She didn't mind. She just wanted to be with him.

"Hey Kouta." Yuka said.

"What?" Kouta said, his eyes not leaving the book.

"How does someone become a vampire?"

"You have to be a virgin. Once a vampire drinks enough of your blood, then you become a vampire." Kouta explained.

"That's interesting." Yuka said. She was so excited, she was a virgin so she could become a vampire. She had been saving her virginity for Kouta. If she could get him to turn her, then they could be together forever.

Bando lay on an operating table at the local E.R. He had both his arms bandaged up, after all they had both been blown off. Kurama stood over him, wondering what had happened to him.

"Who the hell was he?" Bando said.

"Who? I thought Lucy did this to you?" Kurama asked quizzically.

Bando shook his head. "Hell no! She didn't even bother to fight. We were attacked by this... this... MONSTER!" Bando shouted

"Who was it? What did he look like?" Kurama said as he placed his hands on the operating table.

"Well, he was tall, Really tall. Around 7 feet. His hair was so long it reached his chest. He had a red duster, black boots, black gloves with this red pentagram on them, he had this deep, threatening voice, and he had a slightly muscular build." Bando relayed the appearance if the vampire Kouta.

Kurama's eyes widened at the description of Bando's attacker. He knew who attacked him.

"Me and Saito emptied every round into that bastard! No human could've survived that kind of punishment. He just fixed himself up, laughed, then he shot my arms off!"

Kurama paused for a moment, then spoke up. He had to explain the existence of vampires to Bando.

"Only one creature could've done this." Kurama stated.

"What was that... Thing?" Bando said.

"A vampire."

The whole room was silent for a moment.

"Seriously? A vampire? Like in Dracula? I thought they weren't real?" Bando said.

"They're real alright. Kakuzawa would research them, but he considers diclonius to be far superior. He has no idea what vampires are capable of." Kurama said. "However, this is no ordinary vampire. By the description you gave me, I can only assume this... It was a vampire named Kouta. He has the very same powers as Dracula himself. However Dracula goes by Alucard now. But recently Alucard disappeared, leaving Kouta behind. Kouta is an agent of Hellsing. It's a London agency, however I don't know what they would be doing here in Japan."

"This is intense. How can we expect to kill Lucy if that bloodsucker is there to defend her!?"

"I really don't know. He can't be killed, no matter how hard you try. He just keeps coming and coming." Kurama said.

"So now what?" Bando said.

Kurama had an idea. It was a risky one, but they need to try.

"We have an experiment to run. If you accept, then not only will you have your arms back, but maybe you'll be able to fight Kouta. You will become a Regenerator."

"What the fuck is a regenerator?" Bando said, befuddled.

"A human being with unbelievable regenerative abilities, made for anti-vampire organizations. They are grown in vats, with no actual parents. However, we think we might be able to turn a living human into a regenerator."

"I'll do it." Bando said instantly.

"Good, if Kouta's objective is to defend Lucy, then this will help fight him."

Nana was wearing a blue dress that Kurama had made for her and she had asked for his tie, calling it "that string hanging from his neck". Her bag had a radio in it.

"Don't try to resist, I've already contacted them." Nana said.

Lucy stood up.

"What now?" Nana asked. "Are you going to kill me?"

"So far, I've never been forced to kill one of our own kind." Lucy said.

The red haired diclonius simply started walking down the steps of the inn.

"Hey wait a minute! If I don't take you with me they'll..." Nana was interrupted when she felt one of Lucy's vectors inside her head.

"Don't move. All it takes is one movement and then I could sever the arteries in your brain." Lucy said coldly. She retracted the invisible arm. "Go home."

Lucy resumed walking when she was interrupted by Nana again.

"Hey wait a minute."

Lucy wanted to shut her up, so she used one of her vectors to slam Nana into the wall. Nana fell to the steps on her hands and knees, blood trickling down her chin.

"I was going to let you go, after all, there's not many of us left, but you're such a pain in the ass." Lucy said.

Nana gritted her teeth and glared at Lucy.

"I'm a pain? I'll show you what pain is!" Nana shouted as she sent a vector towards Lucy.

Lucy dodged the vector but was hit by another vector from Nana which sent Lucy flying into the nearby graveyard. the queen was sitting against a shrine, when Nana used her vectors to jump into the graveyard. Nana sent her vectors to choke Lucy and keep her in place.

"I'm not gonna kill you, but for Papa, I'm going to teach you a lesson." Nana said.

Lucy shot her vectors in an attempt to sever Nana's head but they fell short of reaching their target. Nana's vectors were longer than Lucy's. that presented problems.

"Your vectors are longer than mine." Lucy said in a strained voice.

Lucy instead decided to use her vectors to lift nearby tombstones into the air. Nana spotted them floating in the air. Lucy sent them hurtling to the young silpelit. Nana however was successful in dodging them.

"You seem comfortable in that experimental equipment of yours." Lucy said.

Nana dusted herself off. "I got all dressed up to fight you." Lucy lifted up more of the tombstones to throw.

"And her we go again," Lucy threw the gravestones at her. Nana used the branch of the tree to pull herself away. "Because you insist on fighting!"

Nana was suspended in he air for a moment, however she spotted Lucy, who sent a vector to punch her hard in the gut. Nana gasped for air as she fell to the cement below them.

Mayu was sitting on some nearby steps, she had a bag of bread crusts in her hand that she and her puppy Wanta were sharing. Mayu always received them for free. She never told the bakery owner that she was homeless. The lady just assumed thy were for Wanta.

All of a sudden, she heard a loud thud and saw dust off in the nearby cemetery. She got up and made her way to the cemetery.

Back at the inn, Yuka was wondering why Nyu hadn't come home yet. It crossed Kouta's mind as well. Would he have to save her again?

"Well I'm going to go look for her." Kouta said.

"I'll come with you this time." Yuka said as she stood up.

"Very well. But if more soldiers are attacking her, be prepared for a bloodbath. I usually make things messy." Kouta said as he grabbed his sword from against the wall. This sword was called the "Reaper" it had a black spiked pommel with a silver/steel alloy blade, a black grip, and a red streak across the blade. It was about 3/4 of Yuka's height. Kouta then dematerialized the Reaper into black energy and absorbed the sword, effectively concealing it inside his body. He never did that with the Cassul and Jackel.

"Y-yes." Yuka stuttered. She really hoped she wouldn't have to see any killing. She couldn't bear to see Kouta doing that. Nor could she see what he had just described ever.

Kouta put on his red duster, put the hood up, and put on a pair of the round orange framed glasses, just like Alucard wore. His hair even stuck out from the bottom of the hood, still hanging over his chest.

The two of them exited the inn and made their way down the steps.

Mayu was at the bottom of the steps for the cemetery. She spotted Nyu whom she had saw at the inn.

"Hey I know that girl.

Nana was bruised pretty badly but she was going to have to go all-out for this fight. She would need to stay just out of range of Lucy's vectors.

Nana carefully slid one of her vectors into Lucy's leg without her noticing.

"I'm sorry to do this, but if you can't walk then you can't run away." Nana said. She didn't want to hurt her badly but she had no choice.

Suddenly Mayu ran towards the two diclonius.

"NO! Stop fighting!" Mayu shouted.

"Don't come any closer!" Nana shouted. She retracted the vector from Lucy's leg in order to use it to keep Mayu away, but it was too late. Lucy had seized the opportunity to disable Nana by cutting off her left leg and the fingers on her right hand. Nana fell to the ground in pain.

"NO!" Mayu shouted.

Lucy remembered that Mayu was standing there so she needed to get rid if her. She summoned on of her vectors to throw Mayu into the nearby tree. Afterwards she returned her attention to Nana who was trying to crawl away from Lucy.

Nana directed her attention at Lucy, who was standing over her, her eyes covered by her bangs.

"I'm not scared of you! This doesn't hurt at all!" Nana shouted. Lucy however was not amused. She severed Nana's right arm and left arm and other leg. Nana's vision began to fade as she looked at the sky.

"Papa.."

"Does it hurt now?" Lucy hissed. "Don't worry, I'll make it stop."

Lucy was about to send a vector to finish the bested silipelt but was stopped when there was a gunshot and the tombstone next to her had been chipped. She turned her head to see that a SAT sniper team had attempted to shoot her down.

"Damn, I missed!" The rifle operator said.

"Prepare to fire again!" The spotter said.

A swarm of Sat troops had run up the steps of the cemetery. In the group, Kurama stood. The soldiers had Lucy surrounded, guns pointed her.

"That's enough." Kurama pushed his glasses closer to his face. "There's no way I can forgive you. No way in hell." Kurama mad his way closer to Lucy and The limbless Nana.

"Chief!" One of the soldiers said. "Is he suicidal?!"

Kurama however just walked past lucy and towards Nana. Lucy just watched him. She didn't attack or kill him. She just watched him pick up Nana.

"I'm so sorry, Papa. I'm so sorry."

"Why didn't you wait for us?"

"I thought you would be proud of me?"

"Papa, huh? Too bad, looks like your daughter's gonna die." Lucy said coldly.

Kurama set Nana down gently on the ground.

"Yes..." He said.

"I KILLED HER!"

Kurama brought his fist across Lucy's face so hard that she fell to the ground. She looked back at him and was just dying to waste him but she vowed that she wouldn't kill him.

"Oh my god! He's gonna die!" One of the soldiers exclaimed.

Suddenly... There was laughter.

A deep threatening laughter.

Lucy clearly recognized who's it was.

A black fog surrounded the entire cemetery. The laughter grew louder with each moment. The fog began to work it's way towards the center of the group where Nana, Lucy and Kurama were. It began to shape itself into a figure.

Kouta stood before a legion.

"Even if there are a hundred dogs, against a monster, they're still just dogs." Kouta's very voice gripped their hearts with fear.

The sniper in the distance placed his scope over Kouta's head. Through the lens, he could see Kouta turn his head and stare directly at them, smiling sadistically, teeth like daggers. The sniper pulled the trigger, sending the bullet into the vampire's skull causing his entire head to pop like a balloon. Kouta's body jerked back before falling to the ground. Blood poured out of the area where his head should be.

"Who the hell was that?" Another soldier asked.

"A monster… a monster straight from hell itself." Kurama said in terror. "We need to run! Shooting him has no effect! He'll come back any second now!"

Suddenly, bats surrounded the entire vicinity, casting a dark shadow over the entire cemetery. Kouta's body dematerialized into a swarm of them, reshaping itself into a cross. His red eyes standing out along with his smile. The bats rematerialized into Kouta's healed form.

"This won't be good..." Kurama said.

Kouta pulled out both the Cassul and Jackal and aime towards both his sides. The SAT troops were paralyzed in fear. Kouta smirked and opened fire, killing 4 men on both sides. This time Lucy didn't run, she was standing paralyzed in fear as well. she wanted to avert her gaze but it was locked on the ensuing slaughter-fest. The rest of the men began to scatter and run away, inadvertently blocking Kurama from getting himself and Nana out. Kouta fired another 2 rounds from both guns and killed 4 soldiers.

"I need to get Nana out of here!" Kurama shouted.

"Please don't papa. You won't make it." Nana said weakly. "You will only get hurt, leave me. I'm already going to die."

"Don't say that! I'll get you out of here."

Kouta holstered the Cassul and Jackal and gripped a soldier by the leg and struck his hand down his head and through the torso, slicing him in half. Kouta raised the upper half and allowed the blood to flow into his mouth. Kouta gave a maniacal laugh and threw the body away. He extended his hand towards his side and summoned the reaper sword. Kouta used his horde of bats to keep the other soldiers from escaping. They were blocking all of the possible ways to escape.

Kouta jumped into the air and landed in the center of the remaining group of soldiers. They all stared up at the tall vampire, gasping in fear. Kouta extended his hand with the Reaper upwards. He immediately brought it down and spun around with it, slicing the men into pieces, blood covering most of the area.

Kouta turned himself into a cloud of mist and drifted towards kurama, Nana, and Lucy. He rematerialized himself and began to walk towards the trio.

Kouta's gaze was focused on the limbless Nana, who was growing paler from the loss of blood. Kurama saw this and pulled out his pistol and aimed at Kouta.

"Don't come any closer! Stay away from her!" Kurama shouted. When Kouta just laughed mildly and continued to walk towards him, he fired every single round into him. Kouta didn't even flinch.

"Heheheh... You of all people should know what I'm capable of. I remember you from Brazil." Kouta said in an amused tone. Kouta lowered his hood and removed his sunglasses. "Relax, human. I'm not going to kill her. Rather, I'm going to offer her the chance to save her."

"No! I don't believe you!" Kurama shouted.

"I'm not prone to lying. Not since I was a child."

Lucy knew what he meant by it and hung her head in sadness. She felt like if he knew, then he would hate her. She would always love him dearly though. No matter what he does or is now.

"I won't let you turn her!" Kurama boldly shouted.

"It's not up to you." Kouta said calmly. "Don't worry. If she says yes, I'll take care of her."

"Why would a monster such as yourself take care of a little girl?!" Kurama yelled, not backing down in an attempt to save Nana. Lucy heard him call Kouta a monster and was irritated by it.

"What other option do you have? You're too far from any medical facility to get her help in time. She won't survive it. Trust me, I'm her only hope at this point."

Kouta stepped in front of Kurama and Nana. Kouta knelt down, his face inches from Kurama's, smirking.

"Why? Why help Nana? Why concern yourself with this little girl you hardly know?" Kurama asked.

"I asked someone that question years ago, right before he turned me." Kouta said.

"Pa…pa." Nana weakly said. Kurama, Lucy and Kouta looked at her. "I'll…do…it"

"Are you sure Nana?" Kurama asked worriedly.

"Yes... I trust... him." Nana said weakly before using her right stumpy arm to reach out to Kouta. "Please..." Nana was on the verge of passing out.

"F-fine." Kurama stuttered

Kouta laughed mildly as he took Nana and set her on the ground.

Kouta removed his duster and placed it over Nana, leaving her neck exposed. He picked her up and brought his dagger-like teeth towards her neck, biting down slowly. The last thing Nana saw before her world went white was Kouta's piercing red eyes. Nana's limbs began to slowly regenerate.

Kouta wrapped the rest of the duster around her and turned towards Lucy.

"How many times am I going to have to save you?" Kouta said.

Lucy just mildly turned her head. She felt a little embarrassed. She however had hope that the Kouta she knew was somewhere still there.

"Come along, you two." Kouta said sternly. "No time to dawdle."

Nana was still blacked out way after they returned to the maple inn. When Kouta had found Yuka, she was a little pissed because she had lost track of Kouta because he had left her after he found out where Nyu was. That small anger was discarded when she saw him carrying an unconscious Nana under his coat. Kouta had told her that this kid was now his fledgeling and that she was staying with them. Yuka was surprised that Kouta decided to save a little girl from death. She didn't feel angry or annoyed because Nana was just a little girl and felt like the relationship between Nana and Kouta would be more father-daughter. She also wondered who the man was that was following him as well but Kouta explained it all. When they had arrived, Kouta brought Nana to the basement, where there was no sunlight at all. Afterwards he had to go make a call.

Nana shot up in the bed that was set out for her, gasping. She however was surprised to see that Kouta, Kurama, Sir Integra, and Seras Victoria. Integra and Seras were sitting on opposite side of the bed, Seras was smiling warmly at her, Integra was just giving a slight smirk. She still had a cigar in her mouth. Kouta was just leaning against a wall, his arms folded, and Kurama was talking to him.

"Finally awake?" Integra asked. "You were out for quite a while. It's even night time."

"Excuse me, but who are you?" Nana asked.

"My name is Sir Integra Fairbrook wingates Hellsing. But you can call me Integra. Kouta already informed me of your situation. He will be your master, he'll teach you everything you need to know.

"My name is Seras Victoria. I used to be just like you. I had a master too." Seras waved at her with the vampiric energy arm she had created after she had become a full vampire. "He's nice once you get to know him."

"It's really nice to meet you both." Nana said surprisedly.

"Nana." Kurama said as he knelt next to Nana. "You'll be living here with Kouta. He'll take care of you for a while. They all will."

"Yes, papa." Nana said with a smile as she hugged Kurama.

"I laid out some things for you to wear and use since you're a part of Hellsing, now." Integra said. She had pain out the same outfit that Seras had received when she first arrived at Hellsing, except Nana's was black and had a black duster to go with it. She also set out the one-handed M1 Garand that Luke valentine had used against Alucard.

Integra and Seras both began to walk up the steps of the basement of the inn. When they reached the top, Seras took note of the scarlet haired diclonius sitting on the floor trying to operate the TV. When Seras and Integra had arrived at the inn, Seras thought Nyu was just the most adorable girl ever, but she soon found herself with a free breast massage from her.

"Be good, Nana." Kurama said as he stepped out of the gate.

"I will papa." Nana bade farewell with a smile and a wave. Nana turned around at Kouta whose eyes glowed like red orbs in the shadows.

"Welcome to Hellsing."

A/N: Nana is now Kouta's fledgeling. How will this affect life at the Maple Inn?

Constructive criticism appreciated.
