Chapter 5: Violation
It's been almost two years since my last update to this story and that's unforgivably long. I've been working on "Elfen lied galaxies" which I want to focus on more, but I plan on finishing this story too. But for the most part it's been a combination of personal issues that take me out of the mood to write and procrastination.
A/N: I decided to change my mental design for Kouta because I felt it would be a hilariously stupid attempt to make him cool. For instance, I'm replacing the hood on his coat with a black wool beanie (A warm tight beanie for colder temperatures, not a stupid floppy one that's trendy with hipsters) to make it more realistic and less tongue in cheek than it already is. And you probably won't see the reaper sword much anymore because I felt it's too derivative of Devil may cry. I know it seems ridiculous to focus on such superficial bullshit, but it will legitimately bug me until the end of time if I don't.
"Wow! Those horns are so cool!" Kouta shouted in joy as he grabbed Lucy's shoulders. "I'm so jealous!"
"Jealous? You have no idea what trouble these horns have caused me." Lucy said as she glared at Kouta and began to walk away.
"My name is Kouta! Let's play tomorrow!"
Hokkaido mental facility
"I really hope that millennium doesn't need me for any tasks." The chief doctor said as he was drawing blood from Kouta. He had been secretly doing that since he had arrived. He was already in charge of the mental facility but he had decided to become an artificial vampire in the millennium organization as a medical advisor. He had been secretly draining Kouta's blood for simple sustenance.
"Well... Maybe they will. It would be great to get the hell out of this town." He said as he drank from the blood pack.
Kouta's eyes shot open suddenly in the middle of night. He chuckled to himself softly.
"Can never let it go can you, Kouta?" He said to himself.
He sighed. He looked at the clock which was 3:30 AM.
He heard a faint noise coming from the living room. He knew that no one else could hear since he was a vampire with enhanced hearing but it was still faint to him. He stood up from his futon, put on a t-shirt, and walked down the hallway. He stopped at the doorway and leaned in the door slightly. Nana was watching TV since she wouldn't be able to walk around during daylight hours without being weakened or burning alive. Kouta couldn't blame her. She was at the living room which was on the opposite sides of the bedrooms, and she had the volume low. It probably didn't matter to her since she was a vampire now since she had enhanced hearing.
Kouta slid the door open to find out his suspicions were right. She had been sitting on the couch with her knees pulled up to her chest. She seemed to be depressed by the sad look on her face. She was watching some random action movie.
"Trouble sleeping, master?" Nana asked.
"Yeah. I don't sleep much anyway." Kouta answered as he sat next to her.
"I suppose I'll have to get used to sleeping in a coffin." She said. "Is it comfortable?"
"It's fine enough. It's what I usually sleep in." Kouta said as he rested his elbows on the couch. "But if you drink blood, you won't have to. The whole point of a coffin is that you need to be surrounded by the soil of your birthplace to keep up your strength. Keep drinking blood and you could sleep in a nice bed."
"That's good to know I guess." Nana said softly.
They sat in silence for a few minutes, simply watching the movie. The acting was hammy, but the effects were cool. The commercials came on and Kouta decided to ask Nana a question.
"So how does it feel?" He asked. "Now that you're a vampire."
"Honestly?" Nana asked.
"Yes. Don't worry, I don't get offended."
"I don't know how to feel. I mean, I am grateful that you saved me, but I feel like I walked from one hell into another."
"You feel like since you went from being a diclonius to a vampire, you've swapped one monster for another." Kouta said.
"How did you-?" Nana stuttered.
"I can read people." Kouta said as he smirked without looking at her. "Acquired skill."
"You're right." Nana said. "I was a diclonius, our whole purpose was to kill humans and repopulate the earth."
"Says who?" Kouta asked with a raised brow.
"Well… the people at the island." Nana answered.
"Those so called "scientists" tortured innocent children and even murdered newborns out of fear. Those aren't scientists."
"So what does that make them?"
"I couldn't tell you, but the scientists I've met would never do that.." Kouta said.
"It's not someone's genetic makeup that matters, but their personality. Trust me, you're the farthest thing from a monster." He continued
His words had earned him a small smile from Nana.
"Thank you, but it's more than that." Nana said. "People think vampires are monsters because we are hurt by things like crosses and holy water."
"Wrong." Kouta said. "We aren't hurt by anything 'holy' as you put it. I don't want to get into a religious debate, but I've seen plenty of vampires around crosses, have holy water thrown on them and were even priest or ministers at some point. It offers people comfort and closure of life after death and I get why, but for me, I see past all the hive-mind mentalities, pseudo-intellectual bullshit, fairy tales and guilt for being normal.
"Vampires are another species, just like humans and diclonius, except we have abilities of ethereal nature."
"What about sunlight?" Nana asked.
"Only the weaker ones are killed by sunlight. Stronger ones are merely weakened by it. I would suspect you would only be weakened by it. It shouldn't affect you at all after you become a full vampire."
"I hope so."
"I'm not going to rush you into drinking blood, but the sooner the better." Kouta said as he folded his arms.
"Just out of curiosity, what does blood taste like for vampires?" Nana asked. "I mean, I've had all of those experiments performed on me and I could taste my own blood, but does it taste any differently for vampires?"
"Depends on what the person ate. We taste less of the copper taste and more of the sweet part of it." Kouta said. "Go for the vegans. They get on my nerves anyway. If it makes you feel better, the scientists back in London who work for Hellsing are close to perfecting a method to enhance our digestive system, allowing us to consume more than just blood.
"What should I do during the day?" Nana asked. "What if I wake up and it's still daylight out?"
"You won't, but hopefully you can fall back asleep."
There was a short pause.
"Master." Nana said.
"Just call me Kouta." Kouta said.
"Kouta, how did you become a vampire?"
That question surprised him. He closed his eyes and smirked. Not a arrogant or violent smirk. He wouldn't usually talk about it, but he wanted his fledgeling to trust him.
"When I was 11, I was admitted to the Hokkaido mental institution because of an accident. The head doctor there was a pseudo vampire that was working for millennium. He had been draining my blood for food. I nearly died a few times and most of the staff hadn't been allowed to see me." He explained.
"Oh my god." Nana said.
"However, one night. One simple night that had been no different than any other, Alucard appeared in my room. It was the first time we had ever met. Before he was sealed twenty something years ago, my father worked with him at Hellsing. Him and Alucard became close friends. After Alucard was released, my father spoke to him and made him my godfather."
Kouta laughed slightly.
"I guess you could call it bad parenting. Leaving your child in the care of Dracula."
"VERY bad parenting." Rip Van Winkle spoke up from inside Kouta, causing Nana to jump slightly.
There was another short pause.
"What?" Rip asked as if everyone were staring at her. "It WAS bad parenting. No sane person would allow their kid to be raised by a vampire. It's like feeding your newborn baby to a pack of hungry dingos."
Yet another short pause.
"As I was saying..." Kouta said annoyed. "Alucard gave me the option to become a vampire like him, and even be as powerful as him. And I took it. He injected me with his own blood and in turn, I have all of his abilities.
"So that's how you became one." Nana said.
"Yeah." Kouta said. But this time he seemed more depressed than before.
After the movie ended, Kouta decided to head back to sleep in his room. Nana just turned off the TV and went into her room since it would be sunrise soon. She entered the coffin and shut it closed. She had a lot more leg room than she first thought.
"I guess this is my new life." Nana thought to herself. "Immortality. Was he right about all that? I'm not a monster? Am I?"
She thought of how Kouta said that it was a person's personality that determined what kind of person they were. She couldn't help but feel disgusted with herself. She certainly loved living here more than the institution, maybe things would turn out better if she drank blood, but she felt like that would be the last of her humanity.
Nana sighed and shut her eyes. She wondered what she was going to do the following night. Finally she let sleep take her.
The following morning, Yuka had decided to go to Mayu's room to wake her up for breakfast. She opened the door, only to find that it was empty and there was a note on the neatly made futon.
"What's this?" She said to herself as she picked up the note.
She read the note and immediately headed for Kouta's room.
"Kouta! Kouta!" She said trying to get his attention.
He had been sleeping in when she woke him up to show him the note she found.
"Thank you very much for everything. Dinner was delicious, but if I stay any longer, I know I'll just be trouble. I'll pay you back for my hospital bill as soon as I can, I promise. I'm sorry for leaving without saying anything. -Mayu"
"I found the letter when I went to go wake her up." Yuka said.
Kouta glanced at Yuka for a moment.
"So what do you think her reasons were?" Kouta asked. "It must've been a good one."
"It's obvious she has no place to go." Yuka said.
"Maybe she should move in here until we can figure out what's going on." Kouta said.
"Move in here?" Yuka said nervously.
"Jealous?" Kouta teased with a shit-eating grin.
"I... Well... It's just..." Yuka stammered with a blush on her face.
"Anyway... It's too dangerous for her to be on the streets alone. Wouldn't you say?"
"That's true." Yuka said.
"Maybe we can all be one big happy family." Rip van winkle spoke up from Inside Kouta, causing Yuka to jump.
"Goddammit, Rip." Kouta said as he pinched the bridge of his nose and grimaced. "Are you trying to give everyone a heart attack?"
"Well maybe if you released me, I would be on my merry way and we would never have to see each other again."
"Not a chance." Kouta said. "I'm not letting a nazi vampire loose on the world."
"Aw come on." Rip complained. "Alhambra is so boring. All we can ever do is play cards.
"Hey! I heard that!" Tubalcain Alhambra said.
Kouta couldn't believe this was happening. He felt like killing them both just for a little peace and quiet.
"As I was saying... We should try to find out more about her while we look for her." He said as he stood up and grabbed his long leather coat, this time without the removable hood.
Yuka walked out first past Nyu, who was looking at the grandfather clock.
"Nyu we're going out." Yuka called out.
Nyu poked her head up.
"Nyu?"
Kouta walked out from the bedroom and went to get his boots.
"Let's go Nyu." He called out.
Kouta walked out the front door with the keys to his Harley in his pocket. He didn't know if they would need it or not. After all, it was just enough to fit himself, Yuka and Nyu on it, since it had a sidecar on it. Not to mention if they found Mayu there wouldn't be enough room.
Kouta removed his orange John Lennon glasses from his pocket and put them on. Hopefully it would dull the brightness of the sun.
"Maybe I should've had a car sent instead." Kouta thought to himself.
Yuka walked out the door with a fully dressed Nyu following her.
"Where should we go first?" Kouta asked.
"Well, I saw her at the market yesterday so maybe we should start there." Yuka said.
"NYU!" Nyu cheered happily.
"Makes sense." Kouta said as he pushed his glasses up. "Let's go."
Later at the market
Kouta, Yuka and Nyu had checked most of the shops in the area where Yuka saw Mayu at. Most of them said they saw her from time to time but they didn't have any idea where she could be.
They were at the bakery which was the last stop before they needed to find out where to go next. Nyu was eyeballing the fish down the aisle at the next shop's entryway. Apparently, the owner had known Mayu a little better than the other shopkeepers. She was a black haired woman.
"She didn't come in today." She said. "Are you two friends of hers?"
"Yeah, sort of." Yuka said.
The woman pulled out a small box from behind the counter.
"Well if you see her today, give her this." The woman handed them the box. It was a cake.
"Today is her birthday." She said. " Be sure to tell her I said happy birthday."
Holy shit! I cannot let updates be almost two years apart anymore! 1,000 apologies to all of you.
Unfortunately, because I'm writing from my fuckin' phone, I had to do this chapter in two parts like in elfen lied galaxies.
