Kappa Iota Mu House

The head of Global Justice read the directive from the Security Council again, looking for a loophole. "Idiots," she murmured softly to herself. Still, it was her job to follow the Council's directions, not to set their agenda. She moved the paper to her left and perused another file from her in-box.

Shortly, there was a knock on her door. "Who is it?"

"Will Du."

"Come in." The agent came in, and stood before her desk. "Any problems?"

"None we couldn't handle."

"The prisoner?"

"I came to see if you were ready."

"No... But bring her in anyway."

Three minutes later Betty Director dismissed the four guards who had escorted the manacled prisoner to her office.

"I don't think that is a good idea," Will Du objected.

"Neither do I. But the U.S. State Department and U.N. Security Council offered her a general amnesty and pardon. She agreed to take it. Those are our orders, which require we start trusting her," the head of GJ pointed out. She agreed with him, but would try not to second guess orders in front of subordinates.

"If you're going to trust me you might consider taking off the manacles," Shego suggested.

"Starting to trust you only goes as far as dismissing the guards. Besides this conversation requires a higher level of security any of them hold. And I am on record as not agreeing with this, but my vote didn't count. I am trusting you under orders. Frankly, I was surprised that you expressed an interest in the proposal."

"An interest. I'm not sure I'm buying this fucking plan either. You're treating me like a mushroom – keeping me in the dark and feeding me horse shit. What is this really about? In the little bit I've been told – assuming any of it is true – it sounds like I'm a glorified sorority mother, and not glorified very much."

"That is not too far from the truth – at least in regard to your position. We have a young woman with very powerful enemies, and we have orders to protect her. And..."

"And what?"

"And, as long as we're playing body guard we've got two other heads of state wanting their daughters to have the same protection."

"Fucking nuts."

"While I am not allowed to second guess orders I will affirm Global Justice was not created to serve as a baby-sitters. Nevertheless, the one young woman really is a legitimate target."

"Who is she, and who are her enemies?"

"That requires a higher level of security than you hold as a prisoner. You might not get all the details even if you sign on to the agreement."

"Great," the green woman muttered.

"Your old friend, Kim Possible, will also be staying at the house, along with half a dozen or so other young women, and attending college at Ivy League U. We believe there is evidence you and Kim can work together when required."

"And you have faith she can take me down if necessary."

"She is the reason you are a prisoner now," Will Du pointed out.

"She got lucky!" Shego snarled.

"If you take the offer you won't be a prisoner at all. You more or less serve as sorority mother, as you so aptly put it, until your charge graduates or the threats against her are no longer active."

"As in Kim or I beat the crap out of whoever is out to get her?"

"Perhaps. Our hope is that it doesn't come to that. GJ hopes her location is a secret from her father's enemies, and would like to eliminate the threat ourselves."

"Best case scenario – your boy scouts eliminate this mysterious enemy next week. What happens to me? Back in the pen?"

"The promise of amnesty and pardon is quite real. Your former work as a hero and the loyalty you showed to Drakken have convinced some optimists in the State Department and on the Security Council that you can be used as a force for good."

"Optimists," snorted Shego. "Used. The pardon sounds good. The job sounds dangerous. I could just sit there in prison where I'm safe. What else is there for me?"

"I don't think you want to stay in prison for as long as you're likely to be sentenced. There will also be a reasonable stipend. You will be given limited freedom of movement. You will be living in much greater comfort there than a prison cell – the parents of two of the girls are very wealthy and quite generous in their funding. You will periodically open the household books to Mr. Du here so that we can verify you aren't embezzling funds entrusted to you."

Shego chuckled, "This may work." She looked at Will Du. "How much do I need to bribe you on that 'embezzling funds' thing?"

"I don't accept bribes," he told her coldly.

"He's remarkably honest," Dr. Director told Shego.

The green woman shrugged, "May have to offer him sex then. I… Hey, how much am I in charge of this household?"

"What do you mean?"

"Just what I said, do I get to tell the college girls what to do?"

"They are not your servants."

"But, like, can I assign who has to do cooking detail or scrub the toilets?"

"The house will have a cook and maid."

"Umm… I guess I could live with being waited on. Can I assume they'll be working for you?"

"You don't need to make assumptions; I'll confirm they'll be on the Global Justice payroll."

"Okay, If I can't order the girls to do dishes, can I do stuff like ordering boyfriends and their naked mole rats out of the house or assigning who gets what bedroom?"

"I think the parents would appreciate you ordering boyfriends out. There are individual bedrooms for each young woman."

"Yeah, but one or two is always not as good as the others. I can decide who gets the crappy room no one wants and little stuff like that? Say, 'hey, pick up your damn towel.'?"

"I believe that will fall into the parameters of your authority."

"You got yourself a house mom."

"Excellent. Orientation is next week. You will be-"

"And I want these damn manacles off now."

"The orientation is not until next week. I-"

"I don't give a damn. You want me. I want a show of good faith now. I'm going back to my cell without these restraints."

There was a moment of tense silence. Finally Betty shrugged and told Will, "Go ahead, unlock-"

"Not him, you," Shego told her.

"I would advise against that," Will told his boss.

"No, she's right," Betty told him. "Give me the key. And call Agent Markov to escort her back to her cell."

"One agent?"

"If we're going to trust her as house mother we'd better start by trusting her in Global Justice headquarters."

As the door closed behind Agent Markov and the thief Will Du expressed his reservations, "She is a dangerous woman. I don't think this is a good idea."

"She is also a very capable woman who wants her freedom."

"Will even she and Kim be enough in a worst-case scenario?"

"Let's hope there is no worst-case scenario." Betty could have told Will Du that some of the other women in the house were extremely capable themselves, but his own security clearance wasn't high enough.

"You shouldn't have let her go back to her cell without the manacles."

"No, we needed to do that. First, she's right – if we're going to trust her outside-"

"Which I still say is a mistake!"

"If we're going to trust her outside we needed even a small show of good faith. And second, if she does try something… I've never liked Agent Markov."

Sometimes someone proposes something I think is too over the top, and I write a start that tones down the elements I found objectionable. "You Get Who You Pay For" started that way. Someone said, 'How about there's this auction for Kim, and Shego spends like ten million dollars for her.' Uh, why was Kim in an auction? How did Shego get involved, etc? This began with someone musing about Shego as house mother for a bunch of super-heroines, along with other suggestions I questioned.

So I started this.

But what I saw as the likely direction for this was too clichéd to continue. The other young women in the house were your standard target, a couple spoiled brats, Violet Parr and some other cross-over supers, or some generic supers from the stereotypical list. And, of course, one of the young women would secretly be on the side of evil. Kim, Yori and any other supers are there from either sense of duty when asked / being paid / or free ride at prestigious Ivy League U. Kim and Shego are initially antagonistic toward each other, slowly start to bond, foil an attack on the young woman in the princess protection program, and eventually end up in bed... And they live happily ever after. I couldn't see enough potential twists to induce me to continue.
