There is beauty in the madness.
Gotham was changing, it was hard not to notice this fact and it bothered Jester to no end.
What exactly was up with the city? Why was everything changing?
Did the rogues fear something? It was only thing that made sense for so many young rogues in training to keep popping up at random times.
Jester paused and stared up at her destination, the hotel Ivy had taken as home it made sense, well away from everyone and it protected her plants perfectly.
Jester hopped over the railing and landed on the conjoining building before she walked along metal grating to the door.
"Ivy?" she muttered as she opened the door and walked in there was no one around.
"Ivy's not here."
Or so she thought.
Jester span around to see a very beautiful girl standing in the far corner, she had purple skin and purple eyes, her hair was a dark black and she wore a black kimono, bare feet walked across the mossy ground producing little flowers as she went.
"Ummm…" Jester took a step back. "And you are?"
The girl paused. "Have I really changed that much? Ivy's blood must of really effected me."
Jester went wide eyed. No it couldn't be could it? "Olivia? Nightshade?"
Nightshade smiled at her. "Yes."
Jester blinked and opened her mouth to speak before she closed it and then she opened it again. "Wow you look… different… I mean like… wow."
Nightshade chuckled. "Thank you. Now, what are you doing here?"
"I was actually coming here to check up on you… make sure you were all okay and stuff after that accident and things so…"
"Well, I am fine, as you can see," Nightshade spoke before she sat down on a branch and stroked the bark in a loving way.
"Well…" Jester clapped her hands. "I really should get going, got to make sure a friend of mine is okay… so.. umm… see ya," she waved and ran off jumping onto the road below before she belted towards Edward's hideout, she presumed that he would be there and Enigma had better be there.
"Come on, Whisper, just admit it!" Target nudged his friend. "I saw the way you were looking at her, ya like her!"
Whisper gave his friend a harsh glare. "Don't be stupid, Conner. She may be what is considered to be attractive but it would never work."
Target frowned at his friend as he continued his walk to the bottom of Wonder Tower. He didn't know why, but recently they'd been spending a lot of time in this place, Target wished they didn't. He hated it.
There were so many dead bodies, they stank the place out because they were rotting and the robots were creepy, just left there staring out at nothing with wide glowing eyes.
He didn't understand Whisper's fascination with this place, it seemed al wrong and way too creepy… something about this place… Wonder City… he just had a bad feeling about it.
"Umm… Whisper… mind telling me why we're back down here again?" Conner muttered as he followed after Whisper.
"I told you, I have business here."
"Oh yeah, well ya see that doesn't tell me much so… do you think you could I don't know… expand a little?"
Whisper rolled his eyes before he turned to Target sending him a hard glare. "Please be quiet."
Target blinked. "That's.. look Whisper you know I'll be with you no matter what happens, you're my friend after all, my best friend, so you can tell me!"
Whisper sighed and turned away, a haunted look on his face as he took in Target's words. "And it's because you are my friend I'm not telling you anymore."
"But-."
"This doesn't concern you, Conner. Go back to Deadshot, I shall be well," Whisper muttered.
Target looked hurt before he shuffled his feet and looked back at Whisper. "I can help-."
Whisper span around and glared at him. "I said, leave!" he snarled shoving Target, causing the boy much smaller them himself to fall to the floor.
Target looked up at him frowned at Whisper's glare. "But I… Whisper I-."
"Leave!" Whisper shouted. "And don't ever come back."
"Wha-? Whisper, ya can't mean that, you're the only friend I have!" cried Conner as he got to his feet running towards Whisper, but the boy pushed him away again.
"Whisper?"
"Conner, please. Just go."
"I can look after myself!" Conner shouted before he coward back and looked away. "Look Whisper if you're in trouble, I can help you," he took a step forward. "I know you're used to working on your own and stuff, but I can help," he reached out and placed a hand on his shoulder. "We're friends and I want to help my friends."
"And I want to help mine which is why I'm telling you to leave."
"Whisper-."
Whisper span around the hit him right in the jaw, causing Target to fall to the floor, blood trickling down his chin as his lip and gum were bleeding.
"Leave."
Conner got to his feet and ran off, leaving Whisper to stare back at the door to Wonder City.
Times were changing, the world was a darker place, more brutal and sadistic then it had ever been, not that Luna was complaining, if anything she'd have it darker.
Luna sighed and pushed her hair out of her face before she straightened her dress out.
She stopped and looked down at her raggedy dress before coming to a stop and flicking a shadow at one of the bins causing it to fall to the floor.
She couldn't believe how humiliated she was, that riddle brat had made a fool of herself and now… now she was going to be a laughing stock.
She wanted to kill something, she needed to… no one… no one made her look like an idiot.
Luna screamed and the shadows fired up in the air before they exploded across the sky.
No one made fun of her not since…
She trailed off in her thought before sighing and looking at the floor.
That's when it happened, a growing pain came across her forehead and she gripped it, clawing her head in pain.
What was wrong? What was going on?
"Having a little trouble thinking clearly?"
Luna's eyes widened at the voice in her head… wait how was that possible?
The pain increased dramatically and she fell to her knees gripping her head.
"Oh… that looks like it hurts…"
She'd had her eyes closed for the whole time but when she opened them, the world was black… completely black.
"I must say… you have a very dark mind…" there was a chuckle from the darkness and Luna bristled. No one played with her shadows, no one!
"Get out of my head!" she screamed as she span around staring into the darkness for the person who was playing with her.
"Oh… but it's full of such nasty little secrets… such horrible little thoughts and desires…"
Slowly someone stopped out of the darkness in front of Luna and grinned down at her.
He had grey skin like herself and his eyes were exactly like hers too with white pupils and black around the iris, his hair was pure black and parts of it hung over his eyes and he wore a long black coat with a hood drawn up over his eyes and he had bare feet with a grey medallion with a purple stone in the middle of it and a purple shirt, he smiled not showing any teeth as he stood there staring down at her.
"I don't know how you're doing this, but if you don't get out now-!"
"What's so bad about me being here," he giggled as he came towards her.
"Stay away from me!" she growled.
"But I'm already so close to you now," he laughed before grinning at her, showing pointed teeth.
"Who… who are you?" she whispered before she fell on her hands and knees.
"Oh what's wrong are you having trouble focusing on things…. not so nice is it?" he laughed as he lifted her face up to see, studying her facial structure before he stroked his thumb over her cheek.
"What are you doing?"
"Oh my dear," he chuckled before he kissed her forehead. "I'm not doing anything this is all in your head, you're letting me win."
"Stop it, I… you can't beat me!" She screamed.
"Oh… I already have."
Luna shook her head. "No… no you haven't!"
The boy smirked and clicked his fingers and the world tilted causing her to fall to the into a chair and get strapped down, before he walked over to her again.
"Are you sure about that?" he questioned as he ran a hand through her hair, pulling her hood down to stare at her without anything to hide behind.
"What… what are you doing?"
"Why do you choose to hide?" he questioned her.
"Ironic coming from you!"
"Oh I don't hide, I go deep into the minds of people and fiddle and fool around…I have fun."
"Have fun?"
"Struggling?" he questioned he stepped forward and looked down at Luna before he smiled at her and pushed a strand of hair behind her ear.
"I… I…"
"Hmmm… that's what I thought…night, night," he chuckled as he pressed a finger to her temple and her eyes closed before she slumped back into the chair.
In reality Luna fell to the floor unconscious and then a finger emerged from the darkness and picked up her limp form.
"Oh you and I are going to have such fun together," he chuckled as he walked into the darkness. "After all… big sisters always have to look after little brothers… but you seemed to miss that out didn't ya sis?" He smirked and looked down at Luna in his arms. "After all… there is beauty in the madness."
Jester sprinted down the streets, heading to Edward's hideout as fast as she could, she needed to make sure he was okay.
It wasn't long until she was there, running into the hide out, she burst through the doors and stood in the centre of the room.
"Eddie?"
"He's resting."
She turned to see Sphinx come out of the shadows walking towards her.
"Oh, that's good, is he okay?" Jester asked looking up at Mist, she was in costume, obviously thought that it was better to be dressed in something that would create fear instead of a target.
"He's not fine, obviously," Mist hissed but her voice had changed a fraction. "Of course this would never of happened if you had made him come inside with us, but oh no."
Jester took a few steps away from her till her back hit wood.
"Well… you didn't stop him either!" she snapped back.
"That wasn't me, that was his stupid excuse for a girlfriend Mist! What he sees in her I do not know, she's weak! Pathetic!" she grabbed Jester around the throat and lifted her slightly. "I on the other hand are strong and no one… no one messes with me! No one!"
"Sphinx!"
Mist's head turned towards Edward who was leaning against the door frame. "Drop her."
Sphinx snarled but complied all the same, letting Jester go.
Sphinx walked past him and sat down on the sofa picking up a book and she began to read it.
Jester looked over at Edward and gave a small smile of appreciation before she got to her feet and wondered over to him.
"So… where to next?"
"Were you able to speak to Harley?"
"A little. I don't know if she listened though."
"Well at least we tried… now we only need two more people."
"Oh yeah, who's that?"
Edward glanced at her before he turned to Mist… well Sphinx at the moment.
"Sphinx, are you still friends with Two Face?"
"I wouldn't say we were friends, but he seems to like Mist, why?" she questioned.
"I need you to warn him about what Strange has planned, we can't risk a gang war."
Mist smirked. "You mean, you can't risk a gang war, unlike yourself Edward," she got to her feet and smirked. "I am not in this, if you all kill yourselves, it doesn't effect me."
"Yes it will," Jester piped up. "Ya love him obviously, you can't let Eddie die."
Mist glared at the girl before sighing. "Very well… I'll see what I can do… but I won't make any promises."
She wondered over to the entrance and disappeared into the night leaving Edward and Jester.
"Now what?" questioned Jester as she looked over at Edward.
He seemed weak, whatever Crane had done to him it was bad. "Eddie?"
He was hunched over his desk staring at the different papers and plans before he looked up at the computer in front of him. "We need to speak to one last person, someone who's gone underground for the time being."
"Oh who is he?"
Edward turned to her with a grave expression which basically said it all.
"Oh no… Eddie, not him!" Jester cried. "We can't go to him, please!"
"We have to," Edward sighed and shook his head. "I'm sorry Jester, but we have to speak with Black Mask… we have to speak to your Father."
