Some legends are told.

Luna was used to being on her own so now she had her little brother with her… it felt weird. She remembered the last time she saw him, he'd only been 11 and she had been twelve.

It was the day she and Scarecrow returned to her house to punish her parents for what they did to her and then they were caught by the bat.

She saw Lucifer staring out at her as she was taken away, a heartbroken look on his face, but that wasn't the only thing she noticed.

The Bat was looking at her brother too, as was Gordon. It was a look of sorrow because they knew what horrors the boy would be put through, but they had no proof so they couldn't do anything.

She looked over at her brother who was drinking a cola, it was probably the best drink he'd had in ages.

Nightmare looked over at his sister and gave her a toothy grin, making Midfright smile.

He was so much like her, but he'd obviously been stuck in that house longer then Midfright had… obviously he was worse.

She wondered what they did to him after she was gone. When she was there she always made sure they would pick on her and leave him alone, but then she was gone for 3 years and a lot can happen in 3 years.

Luna sighed and turned away from him. She knew all to well some of the things that would be done, she still had the scars to prove it.

She wondered if had scars too.

Luna imagined he would and they wouldn't just be physical but neither were hers.

Jester glanced over at the Frights before she turned back her drink and fiddled with it. "Makes ya wonder what happened to those two ta make them like that."

"I was more wondering what the hell went wrong in their genetic code to create something like that," Edward mumbled as he took a quick sip of his drink.

Jester giggled before she looked up at him. There was an ugly bruise forming on the side of his head, probably from Jonathan. That man needed his head looking at, he really did.

"Hey what went wrong in all of our genetic codes for us to end up here," Jester chuckled as she leaned back on her stool before she leaned forward and picked up her drink. "Ta bad blood and lord knows what else!"

Edward smirked and clinked his glass with hers. "To the death of the bat."

"Here, here!"

The rogues downed their drinks before grinning and laughing at the stupidity of it all. Really, what had happened to their lives and genetic coding to get them here, they did have to wonder.

Jester felt her phone buzz and she quickly pulled it out before frowning. "That's odd."

"What is?"

"I've got a text from Target, he don't usually text me. Wonder what's up," she opened the text and her eyes widened.

"What is it?"

"Target's in trouble…" she trailed off and looked over at the Frights. "Say Nightmare!"

The boy turned and tilted his head in a questioning manner.

"If I gave you a name of a person could you find their thoughts?"

Nightmare smiled. "Yes I can actually. Who is it?"

"Conner Slater."

Luna frowned. "Target? Why in gods name would you want to find him?"

"He's in trouble Luna!"

"That doesn't answer my question."

Jester frowned and turned to Nightmare. "Can you do it?"

Nightmare nodded and closed his eyes focusing on the name he searched through the city and then he heard them. Loud thoughts full of hurt and sadness.

"I've found him," Nightmare whispered. "He seems to be at a place called Wonder City…. do you know it?"

"I do," Luna admitted. "I can use my shadows, get to him bring him here alls well correct?"

Jester nodded and Luna slowly sank through a shadow.

"I hope he's okay," Jester muttered. "Did you see if he was okay?"

Nightmare looked to the side before looking back at her. "His thoughts were clouded with hurt and sadness and pain. Does that answer your question?"

It hurt… the pain oh god the pain.. it was slowly going numb but when Target glanced at his arm he could feel the heat of pain spreading up his… arm again? He… he could still feel his arm.

His brain told him it was there but his eyes said a different story.

He whimpered and turned away chocking on sobs as the blood began to soak in his hair.

So this was how he was going out? Betrayed by his best friend and left to die in his own blood.

He snapped his eyes open and glared at the ceiling.

His… friend had done this. His friend, the one person he trusted above everyone else had done this to him.

Conner rolled onto his side and began to crawl.

That thought at least helped him to keep going instead of just excepting fate and dying.

He pulled himself towards the man hole cover grimacing from the pain sometimes as he pulled himself along the floor, leaving a trail of blood behind him as he went.

"Target?!"

Conner stopped and turned to see Luna coming out of the darkness, she looked shocked but he supposed it wasn't everyday you saw someone you know without an arm.

She ran over to him and held him in her arms, using the shadows to clog up the injury so his blood wouldn't run out and then he was enveloped with darkness as they teleported through the shadows.

Then there was a bright light, it hurt his eyes he had to close them before he blinked and his eyes got used to the light focusing on the ceiling.

"Target?! What happened?"

Who was that?

"You need to get him to Freeze."

That sounded like Nigma, no way could he forget that voice.

"Freeze, what good will he do?"

"He's a Doctor. He can help, trust me. Luna get him there by using your shadows understand."

Conner imagined Luna nodded because then he was in blackness again before he was covered in light once more.

He let his eyes focus and he realised they were in the old GCPD staring up at the forensic department.

"Luna."

"Abbey I need your help, where's Freeze?"

"In the main lab. Is that… Target?"

"Obviously."

"Hmm…" there was a pause before. "He doesn't look well."

"Loosing an arm would do that."

"Yes it would, wouldn't it."

"Help me carry him to Freeze."

He felt himself being picked up and slightly dragged through corridors he looked to the side and saw a girl with blue skin and her hair back in a pony tail, black hair with a blue streak running through it, she had red glasses perched on the end of her nose.

Her eyes were a cold blue, they looked like they could freeze anyone they gazed upon, slightly disconcerting when they looked at you.

Conner felt himself being pulled onto a table before he heard a clatter of things being moved and then what sounded like something robotic moving towards him.

"Fright, what is the meaning of this?"

No one could mistake Freeze's voice, not in a million years could you mistake that voice.

"What does it look like Freeze. He needs help, you're the only Doctor there is."

"I have more important things to do then interfere with this."

"Freeze please! He's going to die otherwise!"

"I have more important things to deal with Fright. He is no concern of mine."

"What would Nora think?"

He heard a blast of ice and freezing sound near his head before Freeze roared. "Leave my wife out of this!"

"I don't think she'd be very happy with you, Victor. Save him, please!"

There was silence for a while before Freeze gave a heavy sigh. "Very well. Leave I will see what I can do."

"When should I come back?"

"In an hour. I should be done by then, if you could remove the shadows from his shoulder that would useful."

Conner suddenly could feel his blood pooling on the table and then her head the clinking of Freeze's suit and the man came into view, his expression cold and heartless.

"I am only doing this because it is what my Nora would want me to do. It is not because I pity you in anyway."

Conner went to respond when a mask was placed over his face and he suddenly began to feel sleepy and his eyes fluttered before they closed entirely and he was left in darkness.

The Iceberg was alive with rogues, mainly little rogues like Enigma, Jester, Nightmare and Gecko had even made an appearance.

"Will he be okay?" asked Enigma, Jester had texted her after Luna had left and then she asked Enigma to track down Gecko, which she cursed herself for doing but then they both appeared at the Iceberg.

"I hope so," Jester muttered as she leaned back on her stool. "It looked bad."

"Target's tough," Gecko muttered. "He'll be fine."

"And you know this how?"

"Conner's my friend, we've been in some rough scrapes…"

It had been a simple job, get in, grab the money and leave. But like all simple jobs it had gotten complicated.

Now Target and Gecko were running from heavy fire and they were stuck in the roughest part of town.

"Sorry about that," Target laughed nervously as they ran around the corner the bullets following them as they went. "I honestly thought they were all down.

Suddenly Whisper was running next to them and he gave Target a slap on the back of the head as they grabbed onto Gecko before he began to climb up the side of the wall.

Once they were at the top they slipped off Gecko and continued to run, jumping the gaps between the buildings like it was the most natural and normal thing to do.

Once they were at a safe distance Gecko growled at Target who took a few steps away from the huge reptilian boy before Whisper stepped in front of Gecko and glared at Target.

"How many times have I told you," Whisper snapped as he pocked Target in the forehead. "No celebrating till the fight is over!"

Target frowned. "How many times have I told you," he said raising his finger and pointing it at Whisper. "I assumed it was over," then he slowly placed his finger on Whisper's chest.

Then Whisper growled and grabbed his finger bending it the wrong way. "OW! Hey, mercy, mercy!" Conner cried.

"Yo' Whisp', ya can't go doing that to marksman's fingers… they need them," Gecko interjected.

"Oh I don't know, he wouldn't miss one would he?" snarled Whisper as he bent it back even further.

Conner nodded his head in rapid succession. "Yes he would, yes he would! He would miss them a lot!"

Whisper smirked before he let go of his finger and Target quickly pulled it back before glared at Whisper who turned and began to walk away calling. "Just be glad it wasn't your whole arm."

Gecko sighed at the old memory shaking his head. That was one of the best times he'd ever had with his two friends, sure Whisper was strange and Target was the most un-cool person you were ever going to meet, but they were still his friends.

He let his tail move sadly along the floor as he wondered over to the bar and hopped up on one of the stools, it creaked slightly in protest before it fell silent.

Jester fiddled with her drink and frowned down into it. She remembered the first time she'd met Target it was awkward to say the least but it was… fun.

Jester was running through the streets shouts were following after her and she grimaced.

Maybe ticking off the guys with the guns was a bad idea.

Suddenly a red blur shot in front of her and they collided.

"Ow, say watch were ya going reddy!" she snarled as she quickly picked herself up to glare at the boy.

The scarlet hairs kid stared back at her and blushed before waving his arms in front of his face. "I'm sorry, I'm terribly sorry! I didn't mean to get in… in your way miss Jester."

Nervous thing to, she added in her mind before shots came whizzing past her head.

The boy grabbed her hand and they went off running again towards the docks.

"Where are we going?"

"Don't know."

"Well I do, can you swim?"

"Yeah…"

"Good, jump!"

She pushed him into the water and she jumped in before she dragged him to hide under the pier.

They heard footsteps before they left obviously thinking that they would drown or they'd gone somewhere different.

Jester climbed out of the water, the red head following closely behind her, she sat on the pier tipping the water out of her boots.

"Ick, I hate sea water."

The boy said nothing except he was trying to deal with his unruly red hair.

"I've seen you around haven't I kid?" Jester muttered. "You're the kiddie Hot shot's got right?"

"If.. if you mean Deadshot then yes that's me…"

"Thought it was… what's ya name again? Bullet… gun…?"

"Target."

"Target," she finished before she got to her feet swinging her boots behind her back while holding onto the laces. "Make sure you don't become a target, but if ya do… make sure it's a moving one, it's harder to hit ya that way, as I'm sure ya know."

"Umm… yes…"

"Well, see ya' Target, look after yourself!"

Jester smirked at the memory before she looked back at her drink. He certainly didn't do that very well.

Suddenly Luna was back and she walked over to them.

"Well… what did Freeze say?" asked Gecko.

"He said to come back in an hour."

"Will he be okay?"

Luna glanced at them. "He'd lost his entire arm and a lot of his blood. I was amazed he was still breathing when I found him."

Jester sighed and looked towards the floor. "Well.. as long as he's okay… now we better find out what happened."

"Wait…" Gecko cried. "You said he's lost his entire arm?"

"Yes."

"He can't be a marksman without it… he needs both for sniping he can't do that now.. plus he needs it to keep himself balanced with all that acrobatic stuff he does."

Jester went wide eyed and turned to Edward who looked back at her before he turned back to his own drink.

"Eddie?"

"What Jester?"

"Will… will Target I mean… does that mean he can't…"

"Be a rogue anymore? Yes, yes it does."

"But sniping, it's his life, it's what he lives for!" cried Gecko. "There's gotta be… I mean.. who would do this… who would cut his arm off-."

He stopped and his eyes winded.

"Gecko what is it?"

"Just be glad it wasn't your whole arm."

The words echoed around Gecko's head as he suddenly grew angry very quickly, picking up the stool and throwing it across the room, his tail beat against the floor furiously as he roared and slammed his fists on the bar. "That traitor! That murdering no good, son of a- I know who did this, I know who it was!"

"Who?"

"Whisper, it was Whisper who did this! He made a joke once about Target loosing his arm, it has to be him!"

Luna frowned. "Who's Whisper?"

"The banged up guy," Jester explained before she turned to Gecko. "Are ya sure… I mean, they did seem to be pretty close.

"It has to be him I swear!" Gecko snarled, showing his teeth as he clenched his fists. "It was Whisper."

Floating… he felt like he was floating. There was nothing here it was like a void.

Conner blinked before he closed his eyes and then he was younger again.. when he first met Floyd it was one of his lessons.

"Remember Conner," Floyd spoke as he got the boy into a fighting stance, "We can't always rely on our guns, sometimes we gotta rely on our fists."

Conner nodded and held his arms up like Floyd did as they circled each other.

"Don't drift, keep your centre."

"Okay," Conner grinned as he launched and began to fight Floyd who was not going to go easy on him.

"Sorry kid," he muttered as he dodged and stuck his foot out causing the boy to fall to the ground. "Up you get Conner come on. I know you can do this."

Conner got to his feet and swung his fists at Deadshot, who dodged and swung his leg out catching the boy on the back of his legs, but instead of falling flat on his back, Conner spring jumped from his hands and landed on his feet jumping and spin kicking Floyd in the face before he ran forwards to land a punch but Floyd dodged.

"Now you're getting it kid, keep your centre and watch that balance," Floyd laughed he dodged another on of Target's blows, before he swung out at the kid who ducked and flipped backwards, pushing off the wall and kicking Floyd in the chest, handspring when he pushed off towards the floor summersaulting in the air before he landed on the floor.

He looked over at Floyd and grinned as Floyd grinned back. "Not bad kid. We get some power behind those shots and you'll be fine."

Conner snapped his eyes open and saw light again. His arm felt numb and he slowly sat up looking around where he was, he realised he was in one of the old holding cells at the GCPD.

He ran a shaky hand through his hair before taking a deep breath. Why he was remembering something like that he didn't know.

He got to his feet and walked over to door looking out before he wondered over to the main lab.

Sitting in the lab was the girl he'd seen from earlier, her blue skin was sparkling in the lights she sat reading some of the words on the screen, she was wearing a white lab coat with dusting of frost near the sleeves before she turned to Conner, observing him with a cold stare.

"You're awake. How are you feeling?"

Conner sighed and looked to the floor. "Do you care?"

"No, it's just polight to ask."

Conner grimaced before he looked at his shoulder and his eyes widened… his arm.. it really wasn't there it really wasn't.

His breathing began to go off pace as he took it in.

"Please don't go into shock," the girl spoke. "I am not in the mood for it."

Conner span around and stared at her. "I've lost my arm, of course I'm going to go into shock!"

"Suit yourself."

He leaned against the doorframe and stared at the ceiling. "I… I won't be able to to continue working I won't matter."

"We thought about that," she said suddenly standing next to him. "I'm Black Ice by the way, now if you'd like to follow me this way, there is something I need to do."

Conner stared after her before he followed after her through the corridors.

"Where's Freeze?"

"He's otherwise occupied."

Conner nodded before following her into a room that was dimly lit.

"We.. made something for you. I believe that you will find it useful."

Conner looked over at what she was talking about and his eyes widened at the sight of it.

A mental arm lay on a table in the room, it was shining in the light.

"Come here and sit down," Black Ice instructed as she moved a chair next to the table.

Conner walked over and sat down staring at the arm with wide eyes.

Black Ice began to remove the bandages, before she pulled away the soft plaster that lay over the top of it, observing the stitching she picked up the metal arm and leaned it next to his shoulder, before she began to prep a needle.

"To dull the pain, or would you prefer I knocked you out?"

"Umm… knocked out would be great."

"Very well," she turned and punched him square in the jaw and he fell of the chair landing on the floor with a hard clatter. "Always took you for having a glass jaw."

"It's been an hour!" cried Gecko. "Lets go see Freeze now!"

The group all nodded and even Nightmare walked over to Midfright as she made the shadow big enough the teleport them all to the GCPD.

"Why are you coming?" asked Jester as she watched Nightmare who grinned at her.

"Why not? Good to meet new people I've learnt."

Jester was guessing that wasn't just the reason but decided not to dwell on the matter as the shadows enveloped them and then they were standing the GCPD.

"You are good at time keeping."

They span around to see Black Ice standing in the door way holding a clip bored before she put it down and walked over to them. "He is fine in fact he's just waking up. You can go and see him."

Gecko was first, he pushed past everyone and began to walk down the corridor to find Conner with Jester and Nightmare, then Luna and Enigma following behind.

Jester wasn't sure if it was a good idea leaving Enigma and Luna at the back on their own but there was nothing she could do about it now.

They entered the room and found Target standing, staring out at Arkham City.

He wasn't wearing a shirt and a lot of them were shocked to see the scars on his back some were from slicing and other were obviously from bullets as he stood there, his back tense.

"Conner?"

Conner jumped and span around staring at them as they came into view he smiled. "Guys!" he cried before running over to them. "It's so good to see you."

"Hey we were worried," Jester shrugged. "It's not everyday something like that… happens… so how err are you?"

Conner sighed and looked at the floor. "I've been better but…" he slowly lifted his arm and then they realised it was metal. A metal arm. "It's just getting used to the weight, it's…umm heavier then I expected."

Gecko breathed a sigh of relief and picked up the small boy giving him a bone crushing hug. "I was worried about you!"

"Hey don't sweat it big guy, you know me, I'm tough."

Gecko smirked and put him down before he frowned. "I swear when I get hold of that bandaged up moron-."

"Easy there Gecko we don't know if it was Whisper," Jester interjected.

"It was."

"What?"

Conner sighed and turned away from them. "It was Whisper. He did this."

Gecko growled and slammed his hand against the wall. "When I get my hands on him."

"Chill Geck'," Target whispered before he turned to them a hardened look in his blue eyes. "If there is anyone going to put a bullet between Whisper's eyes, it's going to be me."

T.B.C:

Note: AH! Naughty, naughty, naughty Whisper! But hey, Target's got a mental arm now, robotic and everything... but looks like our fave scarlet head is out for revenge, can't say I blame him.
