Chapter 19
Mo's Pov
I have to do something. This is all my fault.
"W-what do I have to do?" I asked quietly...kind of hoping they couldn't hear me. Four heads snapped my way.
"How about you stop trying to get us killed?" Paul growled, trying to cover up Brooke.
"I'm so sorry. I didn't know that they were vampires. Please. I want to help." I said bravely. In reality, I had nothing but fear in my body, but this is all my fault. I can't be the reason she dies.
"Come, quickly." The dark haired one called over. I walked up carefully, mainly because Paul was still hovering over Brooke like an animal.
"We'd...have to let her feed off of you, and remove the stake while we do so. That's the only chance we have." The spiked-blonde one instructed. They all seemed fairly uncomfortable, and I was in the same boat. As I approached, Brooke saw me and shook her head.
"No Moly." she croaked. "I can't hurt you." She was trying to squirm away, but to no avail.
"I'm so sorry. It's all my fault. I want to help." I told her, and looked around. "Do you really love him?" I asked sincerely, looking from her to Paul. She looked with worry at first, but it slowly turned into a smile, even though Paul looked like he was going to have a conniption fit. "Then here goes nothing." I whispered to myself, and dug into my pocket. I had a small switchblade, no match for a vampire I suppose, but it'll have to do. I crouched down next to her, took view of all the blood, and took a deep breath before adding to it. My arm shook reaching out to her, and she looked like...she was trying to fight something. Soon enough her resolve dissipated, and before I knew it my best friend's eyes turned golden and I put my arm close enough her her to grasp it.
"3...2...1…" They pulled the stake out; she yelled. She bit into my arm; I yelled.
"Brooke, be careful." Paul guided. "You don't want to kill your friend." She looked from him rigidly, and switched her gaze to me, which softened. Her bite softened, but it still felt like giving blood and taking heroin all at once. I was paralyzed in pain and fear.
Who knows how much time went by, but soon I felt numb, my vision was blurred, and I couldn't focus on the voices around me. I was weak, and soon I-
Paul's Pov
Molly passed out.
"Babe," I called out, stoking Brooke's face, "you have to let go, or she'll die." She growled, but looked down to Molly. Letting go, she sat up abruptly and inspected where the stake was. There was no sign of injury aside from the damaged clothes. "Babe?" I questioned. She snapped her head towards me, analyzing me, sniffing me, and resulted in scowling. "What's wrong?" I asked.
Paul, give her a minute. David warned.
Yeah dude, she looks pissed. Marko added.
Instead I tried to get closer to her and she growled. "Babe, what's the matter?" She did something I wasn't ready for; lunged at me. "Brooke calm down!" I hollered, rolling around in the sand with her. She came at me again, but this time I flew up, about ten feet above her. She looked so frustrated gazing at me. She started to kick sand around and groaned.
She didn't say anything for the longest time.
Babe? I tried once more. She spun around. Babe look at me. She looked up, confused as hell. I smirked. She obviously heard me.
Are...are you in my head? I nodded. Her eyes practically bugged out.
Why are you so upset? I asked, and her gaze faltered. After a moment, she huffed.
You...killed...you made...you orphaned me. She finished, sounding defeated, and looked out to the sea.
I slowly came back down to the ground, half expecting her to charge again. She just stood there, so I slowly approached and wrapped my arms around her.
"I can't imagine what you're thinking." I said honestly. "I had no idea they would be...that you would be…" I drifted off. It's official. I'm the worst boyfriend, the worst mate, anyone could have been stuck with. A terribly long moment past, and we were at a stand-still.
Maybe not the worst. Brooke turned around in my arms and sighed.
"Were you in my head?" I asked this time. She smiled softly and looked up to me.
"It's not like you knew. So I can't be that mad... I can't be mad at you; of all the feelings I have I can't muster up the courage to hate you. It's just a lot to take in…" She finished, and I held her tightly, kissing her forehead.
"I bet."
"C'mon you guys, the sun will be up soon." David said, and I nodded. Brooke agreed, and perked up as she noticed her friend yawn.
"Molly!" She stepped out of my hold and ran over to her. They hugged, but her friend was weak. "Are you okay?" Brooke exclaimed. "Some vampire slayer you are! You helped me!" she laughed. Molly sat up slightly.
"I...I guess I did, huh." she smiled after a moment.
"Babe, we've got to get back to the cave." I called over to Brooke. She jumped up, but looked down to her friend.
"We can bring her too." David said quickly, but without bikes Molly was in for the ride of her life.
Brooke's Pov
The wind whipped around my face...and for the first time that night, I could really take in my surroundings. Did I feel normal? Of course not. A couple of hours ago my stomach was in mind searing pain, my face was burning, my jaw sore, being able to feel the blood pumping in my head. The blood...I drank someone's blood. I drank Molly's blood. She helped me...she helped someone become a full fledged fucking vampire. I'm a god-damned shit sucking vampire! I did the unthinkable without feeling sorrow, pain, moral conflict. A living, breathing, corpse. Hot diggity dang.
Paul carried me as we flew, and I could clearly take in all of his features. I could see every pore, every grain of stubble, every speckle of color in his eyes. He was beautiful, and everything looked clear as day-clearer even. I could smell everything from the dried blood down his body to the smoky residue of the bonfire. A small smile fell upon my lips, and Paul looked down at me with ease. His eyes softened as they met mine, and he kissed my forehead. This warm feeling enveloped me, I didn't want to leave his embrace. I could stay there, in his arms, forever.
"Now you know how I feel, babe." He chuckled, and pulled out a joint.
"How long have you had that on you?" I giggled, and he rolled his eyes.
"When don't I have bud? I think I deserve it after the scare you gave me." he wiggled his eyebrows and took a hit. Laughing, we killed it off.
We raced inside inside the cave about an hour before sun up, and were surprised when someone was lounging about by the fountain.
"Good morning!" The man greeted us, and we slowed.
"Max." David acknowledged. "Isn't it a little early to be here?" The man grinned.
"Well, I don't disagree with you. But I came by to see if the job was done."
"You should have seen it." Marko cheered. "Paul pulled their leaders eye out and-"
"That sounds...messy." The man spoke quickly. "You know I'm not overly fond of the details." He paused and looked my way. "And you must be Brooke!" He smiled. "I'm Max."
"Nice to meet you." I said softly. Paul held my hand a bit tighter. "I hope they don't cause you too much trouble." I added. A moment later the boys started to laugh like wild men, and even Max chuckled.
"I like her, Paul." he bellowed. "She's bound to teach you boys some manners."
"No way is that gonna hap-" Paul was cut off by Mo.
"You're already whipped, dude." At that everyone laughed, that is until Max cleared his throat. In the moment, a shadow of tension crept over the room, and I shifted uncomfortably. Paul must've noticed, scooting closer.
"A human?" The boys froze.
"She saved my life." I offered awkwardly, sensing the tension. Max looked from me to her slowly...almost darkly...and then back to me.
"Saved your life?" he inquired. "I'm not a fan of people knowing our dirty little secret. It tends to... end badly." I froze, but Paul stepped up with me.
"She was impaled while she was still a half...I couldn't lose her." Paul started. "And her friend was the only human in the area. I don't know what I'd do if I lost her."
Molly looked down, almost embarrassed, so I walked over to her. "Mr. Max, I know this isn't...ideal, but she's been trustworthy, and more of a sister than I've ever known in my life. Please...Please don't hurt her." Max looked at us once more and sighed.
"I've never seen a human be so...selfless. She is safe. It's nice to meet you, our little hero." Max nodded towards her. To say the least, the boys looked bewildered.
"I'm Molly." She concluded, finding her voice. Max offered another smile, almost dad-like, and headed towards the stairs.
"Good work boys." He nodded towards the others, and they nodded. "I'll be in touch. And girls?" He began. "Welcome to the family, both of you." He inclined before leaving the cave. All of a sudden, as if a balloon popped, the boys let their guard down. Paul looked down at me and pulled me into him.
"Are you okay?" I whispered into his shoulder.
I'm not sure. He looked at me half confused, half stoned as hell. One thing was for certain-he didn't plan on letting go anytime soon.
"Max never comes here. He avoids it." Marko said, still on his guard.
"He doesn't seem like a bad guy though?" I thought out loud. The boys gave out a dark chuckle. "What? Did I say something wrong?" Molly looked out at the others, just as curious.
"Max is very old, experienced, and conniving. Usually he toys with his...meals. And he's very violent when he finally goes in for the kill." Dwayne spoke up, and to be honest, I don't think I've ever heard him say so much in one go.
"Let alone, he's never been open with a human." David added sourly. "He looks down upon them as pawns...Molly is lucky to still be here." Once again the mood quickly obfuscated.
"You wouldn't let him hurt her though, right?" I blubbered. Paul sighed.
"We couldn't really do anything babe. He's too strong." He paused. "But I doubt he'd do anything. He, as bad as he is, really seemed to enjoy you being here."
"I wouldn't worry." David towered, lighting up a cig. "As long as she keeps this information to herself. You did try to get us killed." He snickered.
"Hey!" Molly snapped. "I've been living for years trying to prepare myself against vampires, and lo and behold my first encounter is because my best friend happens to be in love with one! Not the best, but fuck, I wouldn't do anything to hurt Brooke." She stammered out.
"Why did you save me?" I whispered. She breathed out uneasily.
"We spent all this time...trying to find the bad guys. But I've never seen you so happy. I couldn't just let you go. I'd be the worst friend ever-not a title I can live with." She breathed out a laugh.
"Can we trust you?" David gazed down to her, almost threatening. She looked to us and grinned.
"I'd rather end up a bloodsucker than see you guys in anymore trouble." She joked. "And that's a really gross thought. Also, they're so stinkin' cute." she gushed out like a mom. Audibly, Paul and I both gagged. Gross. David's face squished up.
"We can't have that." Perhaps he was scared of losing his scary persona. They had a rep to protect after all.
"Anyways…" Mo started. "I think I really ought to get home, you know, before my brothers send out a search party." I backed out of Paul's grip and walked her up to the steps of the cave.
"You're gonna be a rad vampire." She blurted out, and we both cracked up.
"And you're still a rad...whatever you are." I bumped her shoulder and she raised a brow, pushing me back.
"And don't you forget it!" she winked. Slowly her smile turned sad, and I squished her into a hug.
"Thank you, Mo." I whispered. "I don't know where I'd be without you." She breathed out, almost hiccuping.
"Will I get to see you again?" She whispered, quiet as a mouse. Pulling back, she was tearing up. Did she think this was goodbye? I pulled her close once again.
"Absolutely. You're the only real family I've got, 'member?" she sniffled, and nodded eagerly. I helped her up the stairs until I saw a streak of light, and let her continue without me.
"Goodnight, Brooke." she waved, and walked out.
"Good morning, Santa Carla." I mumbled, and treaded back down the stairs, growing more tired with every step.
Paul was waiting at the bottom, and the others must've gone to bed. Here we were, blood stained, tired, and against everything, in one piece. And damn, did he look handsome. His eyes grew more and more vibrant as I looked at him. Without warning I jumped in his arms, and he spun around.
"You're gonna drop us!" I squealed, and he staggered around, fake stumbling.
"What can I say, you keep me on my toes." He joked, laughing wildly.
"Not literally!" I smacked his back.
"You know, one day, you might actually be able to cause some damage. But I doubt it." he winked. He doubted it? I can cause damage now! Starting to pound at his back, he threw me over his shoulder.
"Comfy?" He asked, and rubbed at my thigh, just below my butt. I growled in response...wait, growled? Before I had time to process I was tossed onto one of the many couches and he quickly towered over me.
"Paul, what are you-" His lips captured mine fervently, and I was sandwiched between the cushions and Paul with no wiggle room. His hands glided from my stomach down to my thighs once more, and a wave of new emotion crashed into me. I needed this man, more than I needed anything in my life. I nibbled on his lip, and much to my surprise, it broke the skin. He pulled back for a moment, then looked down to me and smirked, bringing my lips back up to his. The moment blood touched my tongue, I was overwhelmed. I couldn't see straight, my breath was rigid, and I need his intoxicating sweetness. I moaned lowly as he pulled back, then a second passed and he ravaged my neck in kisses. They were hard and powerful, with a purpose. He sunk his canines into me, and I looked up at the wild man attacking my body with rigid affection. Pulling aside the hair falling onto his shoulder, he guided me up to his neck, and without hesitation, I knew what I wanted. I knew who I wanted to be, and I couldn't spend another moment without Paul. Leaving light kisses, it was only a matter of time before I felt my resolve fall, and I grabbed onto his neck with urgency. He tasted so sweet, and it tantalized me. I felt complete.
He shifted above me, grinding ever so slowly against my pelvis. This burning grew, and he was teasing me. I growled, attempting to pull him closer, but he held me still in the position, all the while groping all that he could get his hands on.
"Shh...we got to be careful, babe. Someone could hear us." he warned, seductively to say the least. I didn't care; I needed him.
"C'mon," I moaned against him, and he threw his head back, taking a deep breath. "There's no one left." He looked to me with his baby blues and smirked.
No one left...but me.
I've been working on this story for God knows how long. Without the love and continual revival of inspiration, I don't think I would have kept up Paul's love story. It makes me so sad to think that it's over...Perhaps I'll think of a sequel, but that day will come once I've finished base stories for the Boys. Marko is complete, and now so is Paul. I'm more than halfway there, and I hope I've done this story justice. I hope I've done the Boys justice. Forever with love, Crimsonsky132.
