When I woke up from my half-conscious slumber, the sunlight was peering at me through the small gaps left by the large mass of leaves hanging over me. I jumped to my feet, startled by these strange surroundings. What's going on? Last I remember was falling out of the sky. Where am I? Wasn't that just a dream? Perhaps this still is one. If it isn't, then shouldn't I be dead? I looked around; there was some foliage, but not much due to the lack of direct sunlight under the cover of these gargantuan trees. My stomach slowly grumbled. I had just ate a few hours ago, how long was I knocked out? There seemed to be only minor cuts and bruises lining my arms, legs, and back. How did I make it out with just these (relatively) harmless marks?
"I'm sorry, I tried to catch you as best as I could." said a feminine voice. "Considering that you fell from the height that you did, it was quite the task. Catching you, I mean. You are quite lucky I happened to come along. You would have died, otherwise."
I turned around. There was a being, very close to my height. It was three different colors: an off-white, red, and orange. What was she? Then I looked at her face. Her eyes were blue. Then, her beak curled into a nice smile.
I attempted to respond, but my words were trapped by the concealing of my throat. The phrase was incommunicable. No words would ever be able to explain the wonder and awe that I saw in the figure before me. In no way could I ever describe the first time I ever stopped to look at her. There was an aura of purity and happiness surrounding like a translucent dress crafted from absolute benevolence and majesty.
She was a Blaziken. It took my mind a few moments to register this, and then I jumped backwards and hit something really hard. The back end of my skull collided directly with the trunk of one of the many trees surrounding us. Once again, darkness became like a veil: filling the corners of my sight quickly before engulfing me entirely.
The bright orange sun rose from the depths of the vast ocean to greet the island with its warm rays of sunlight. "What a gorgeous sunrise." I said quietly to myself, not daring to speak so loud as to wake anyone else up. Nobody got up as early as I did, mainly because they weren't as energetic as me. Today's going to be just like any other. Nothing really goes on here; this is a land untouched by the fabrics of time. I leaned back on the enormous leaves and rested my head for a few moments. Life was good; it always has been, even if it sometimes was a bit lonely.
"Hey, Blair!" A boisterous voice came from the shore. I leaned back up and peered towards the voice. It was Dante. He wasn't exactly as considerate as I was, when it comes to being quiet in the morning. "Why don't you come for a swim? Or are you afraid you'll lose again, like you always do?" I could hear the laughter being suppressed from here. Just because I'm a Blaziken and he's a Lombre doesn't mean he's going to beat me. I overcame my fear of water at a young age, there's not one person on this island afraid of water. Ironically enough, Dante was the reason I could overcome my initial fear. I stood back up and yelled, "Oh, you're so on!" And I jumped off the tree and raced after him into the water.
The water isn't as cold as one would think. Actually, it's almost the perfect temperature all the time. Plus, the sunlight helps keep everything nice and bright around here. It's fortunate I was born on this Island. But, then again, I don't know of any other place I could have been born. Although I do hear from some of the Wailord that there are many other lands and it makes me wonder about the Pokémon that live there. There is one thing that has bothered me about this island. I was the only Blaziken on the entire island. I, more or less, just appeared. Nobody knows of my parents, or any other fire types on the island, for that matter. My life in itself is a mystery.
After swimming for about an hour, I went back into the forest. Eventually, my house was visible through the foliage. It was very basic. In fact, it was no more than a small tree that had all of its leaves growing in such a way that I could live under them with ease. There is a small table I fashioned out of sticks and a bed made out of dried grass. Maybe not the most hygiene living, but it's perfect for me. I tend to swim and wash myself off quite often, anyways. There was also a large log that found its place in front of my little shanty, and I decided to use it as my seat most of the time. I walked on over to it, sat down, closed my eyes, and tilted my head to the sky, which was mostly hidden by the leaves above me. That didn't bother me any. The sun hurt my eyes.
This part of the island was completely covered in a jungle-like forest. I think I am the only one that actually lives in the jungle, and not on the shoreline in a teepee like most of the others. There are three other parts of the island: the plains, the water-area (And by that, I mean there is everything pertaining to water. For example, there are multiple waterfalls, hot springs, geysers, and rivers spread throughout It.), and the volcano. Well, the volcano is separated by a large portion of water, so it doesn't even qualify as part of the island to most people. I often go over to the Plains to go talk to the Pokémon that live there. They often know about news before everyone else. Apparently, the information just throws itself at them before anyone else. So, if I hear an interesting rumor, I'll go verify it with them. It was just another small part of the rhythm of life.
My thought process was interrupted by a harsh screaming, which was also accompanied by the occasional obscenity. I jumped right to my feet and try to find the origin of the scream. It was coming from far above me. I leaped on top of a tree and began looking around, perhaps a bird with an injured wing? I finally spotted a tiny speck falling out of the blue sky. It was now quite obvious where the screaming came from at this point. I calculated the falling speed and prepared to jump and catch whoever it was. Eventually, he or she was within range and I rocketed towards it with a powerful bound.
Despite my best efforts, the impact of the fall hurt the both of us. I'm not very used to falling that far and carrying an extra 180-something pounds, especially not when it falls on top of me from out of the sky. My legs only hurt a bit, so I focused on the being. Its arms were bruised, but, other than that, it looked fine. Wait, what the hell was this? I pushed that thought to the back of my mind and began hauling (what appeared to be a) him back to my place. Actually, he seemed to be around 230 pounds now. God damned, this guy is heavier than shit. I started to freak out, worrying that I wouldn't be able to make it. This was going to take a little bit too long. Hell, the sun hasn't even fully rose yet.
Soon enough, he was fast asleep in my bed. Thank god. I never want to carry him again, that was absolute torture, despite my physical prowess. Once I finished carrying him, my feet could relax and recover from all that extra weight. After placing him down, I could finally get a good look at him. He looked to be about my height, probably taller. He had a slightly muscular build. His hair was a light brown and was sort of long. He looked kind of cute—for whatever he was. At that point my stomach growled, so I figured I would go and gather some berries and what not. I grabbed my small bag made of woven leaves and brought it with me. I turned back once more before leaving the immediate vicinity. Hopefully he is not going to wake up too soon.
I know this forest better than some people know themselves. This is where I've lived my entire life, now that I think about it. The others offered me a home among them, but I always kindly declined. Going anywhere else would seem too… different to me. At least it would now. How old was I anyways? Twenty years old? I believe so. Then again… ah, I'm not sure. It doesn't really matter. All that does matter is that I've been around for a long time. Longer than I could ever imagine.
It didn't take long to fill the bag. This island was blessed with all kinds of fruits and berries, but I tended to grab the Pecha berries, Rawst berries, and Oran berries the most, along with a couple of devil fruits. Each had its own unique flavor, and they all grew in specific areas. The Pecha berries tasted quite plain, and their plants tended to stick to the bases of the giant trees. Rawst berries, on the other hand, were incredibly sour and grew adjacent to running water. Oran berries were on the sweeter side and could only grow were nothing else was present. The devil fruits grew on the trees themselves. In fact, I have grown quite adept at climbing because of my original intention of tasting one. To my surprise, they are very spicy. Every once in a while, one of the local Pokémon would have some spare apples and give them to me. There are apple trees over in the plains, but I don't just head over there to get apples, so I don't get the chance to eat them very often. I started back on my path home. I've walked these trails countless times, and as a result they are easily seen. Once I got back to it, I saw him standing up in the middle of my yard, looking around cautiously. Then, he started examining the bruises lining his arms. Feeling responsible for them, I approached him and said, "I'm sorry, I tried to catch you as best as I could."
Oh god. That was quite the awkward way to start a conversation. "Considering that you fell from the height that you did, it was quite the task. Catching you, I mean." Shit. That sounded terrible. He probably thinks I'm a freak, now. I shuffled around awkwardly for a short moment. "You are quite lucky I happened to come along. You would have died, otherwise." Well, might as well tell him something reassuring. Shit. That was not reassuring. Hopefully he's not too freaked out by me. But what if he is? Oh god, I hope not. Fuck, it looks like he's starting to turn around. Slowly but surely, he is. Oh god, what do I do? I should try to do something natural. Smile, maybe?
I gave him a friendly smile. He stared at me for a few seconds, his brown eyes filled with thought, before he skipped backwards into a tree. The impact knocked him out. So, at least I wasn't the only one that thought this situation to be all weird. Maybe he just thought I was ugly? God, I hope not. I worry too damn much sometimes.
EDT: The Second chapter has been adjusted and modified! I'm glad to be starting this project. Hopefully it won't take too long, that way I can return to writing the whole story.
