Copyright Infringement: a Rugrats fanfic
By Princesspopular6417
Disclaimer: I don't own "Rugrats." I don't own the characters in this story. All rights go to Nickelodeon and Viacom.
Author's Note: I was inspired to write this story because of the Rugrats episodes being removed from YouTube to copyright infringement notices by Viacom. I previously wrote a story about the Rugrats and Viacom called "Takedown." That one has to do with the conflict between Viacom and Directv that happened a few years ago. Enjoy!
Summary: Angelica finds out what copyright infringement is. Oneshot.
Angelica's House
March 1st
It was a Tuesday afternoon. Angelica Pickles was surfing the web on her family's desktop computer.
First, she checked out the Cynthia website. She looked for new games that she could play. But there were only games she had already played 100 times before. She sighed.
"I think I will check out what's on YouTube!" Angelica thought.
So she went on to Youtube's website. Normally when she was on Youtube, Angelica would look up little kid videos or watch silly cat videos. But today she noticed something else.
Her parents and her Aunt Didi each had YouTube channels. Angelica didn't have one because she's too young. She decided to check out her dad's channel to see if he posted any videos of her.
There was a video her father had posted. It was titled "Angelica, my little princess dancing!" It was a home video of Angelica dancing around in the kitchen and singing. Drew thought it was so adorable that he decided to share it on the internet. Angelica clicked on it. But instead of getting the video, she got a screen with a message that read like this:
"This video is no longer available due to copyright claim by Viacom International Inc."
Angelica was confused.
"What's a copyright claim?" she wondered.
Then she decided to check out her Aunt Didi's channel to see if she had any new videos of the babies up. She had a video up called "Tommy's first birthday." So Angelica clicked on it. Instead of the video, she got the same strange message again:
"This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by Viacom."
"Seriously?! Who is this Viacom?" Angelica thought, getting angry.
She was so angry that she got up out of the computer chair and went to her bedroom.
She plopped down in her bed. And started throwing a tantrum.
"It's just not fair! Who is this Viacom and why did they take our videos away? Who do they think they are? I HATE THEM!" Angelica screamed and beat her mattress.
Her father, Drew hearing all the noise came in to check on his daughter.
"Is everything ok in here, sweetie?" Drew asked.
"No, daddy. I went to YouTube today and I went to check on your channel and Aunt Didi's channel and Your and her videos got gone cuz of some copyright claim whatever that is by Viacom, whoever that is. So I couldn't watch them. It's not fair, Daddy!" Angelica explained, still crying.
"Oh, sweetie, I know it isn't fair. Viacom is a company that owns the channel, Nickelodeon that our show is on. Because they own Nickelodeon, they can claim copyright on our videos." Drew explained.
"Is there a way to stop it?" Angelica asked.
"Sadly no, pumpkin. I wish there was something we could do about it. But then we would have to go to court and fight it. That would take a long time and lots of money that we don't have. Usually our videos stay up for awhile before they take them down." Drew replied.
"But it's so unfair!" Angelica whined.
"I know, I know sweetie. But like I said there's nothing we can do about it. Now, don't worry about it and go play." Drew told her.
"Yes, daddy." Angelica said as she went over to play dollies in her dollhouse.
The End.
