"Miwa Uchiha-sama?"
I raised my eyes to see a young male standing at the doorway of the living room, "Yes?"
He adjusted his glasses, smiling softly. "Hello, Miwa-sama. I will be your new tutor."
I sighed as I sat straighter in my wheelchair. "I see, my I ask the name of my tutor?"
The male chuckled, "My name is Yakushi Kabuto, it's very nice to meet you."
I narrowed my eyes at the male, not liking him at all.
Tama always told me that a person's instincts were their most valuable survival tool. Right now, my instincts were telling me that this guy was a creeper. He reminded me of snakes and their poison nature.
"So… you're my new tutor." I leaned away from him, folding my arms. "Where did you study?"
"I assure you, Miwa-sama, I am most-"
"I did not ask for your assurance, Yakushi-san." I raised an eyebrow. "I asked you 'where did you study'?"
Kabuto blinked, slightly taken aback with my attitude. No doubt, he was expecting a small, frightened, socially-deprived little girl, too weak to be taken out of the Uchiha Mansion.
Well, this fellow has another thing coming.
"I studied Medicine, Biology and Anatomy at the University of Konoha." The silver-haired male covered up his surprise quickly. "However, I am, at the very least, adept in all other subjects."
"I see," I tucked a loose strand of hair behind my ear. "Well, what will we be doing today?"
Kabuto brought out a couple of booklets. "You will be taking these tests, just to see what level you are at. Also, to show me the best way to teach you. They're mostly General Knowledge. Tell me, what subjects did you take last year? Or earlier this year?"
"English, History, Advanced Maths, Science, Performing Arts and Religious Education." I answered immediately.
Kabuto raised an eyebrow, "We won't be focusing on Performing Arts or Religious Education. Your father specifically stated that you were to be tutored in mathematics, all sciences, English, and accounting."
I rolled my eyes, of course. Fugaku doesn't want any of his children to be wasting time on useless subjects that couldn't ever benefit them in the future.
"Here, start on these."
The rest of the day was spent with me doing the tests. Most of it was quite hard, but I'm sure that I, at the very least, scraped through with a pass.
I couldn't shake the creepy feeling I had with the Kabuto guy being in the same room, he reminded me of that infiltrator that tried to get into our gang through the initiation stage. In fact, he was in the same Corps as I. Luckily, Tama sensed that something was off about him and confronted him. Turns out, he was trying to bug the whole place, thinking that we only had one hideout. What he didn't know, was that we had several, and he was caught in the act of trying to re-bug the new hideout.
This Yakushi Kabuto was a snake, but I didn't know what he wanted.
Tama used to say, if confrontation was not an option, then play along. With my age and 'vulnerability', I might be able to get away with being a cautious, little girl.
"Ano, Yakushi-san?"
"Yes, Miwa-sama?" Kabuto looked up from his papers, "Are you having trouble with something?"
He looked every bit the concerned tutor, that I wanted to throw up.
"No, I'm finished." I placed my pen down, "I just wanted to apologise, if I was rude at the beginning of the day," I began to fiddle with my hands, "It's just that… I didn't know you and I wasn't sure if you would be a nice tutor or if you would be a mean one." I ducked my head down, allowing my bangs to cover my face. "I'm sorry, Yakushi-san. So, very sorry..."
"I see. It's quite alright, Miwa-sama."
I peered from underneath my bangs to see Kabuto, not quite convinced. "It's just… I'm not used to meeting new people, especially those that are around my age or a bit older... I was expecting someone much older than you are, Yakushi-san."
Kabuto shifted in his seat. "May I ask why anybody hasn't known about you, Miwa-sama? And why, out of all times, you reveal yourself now?"
"I-I..." I placed my hands under my armpits, as if I was hugging myself. "I don't know, Yakushi-san..." I pinched myself hard, so that my eyes teared up. "I thought that it was normal for girls to be in the house and for boys to go out to school… I haven't had many friends either..."
"Well, how about I be your friend?" Kabuto smiled revoltingly, absolutely buying my innocent, little girl act. Actually, believing that I was an isolated, little girl, desperate for a friend.
"Really, Yakushi-san?" I raised my head to look at him, a bright grin on my face. "You'd really be my friend?"
"Of course," Kabuto stretched out his hand to hold it out to me. "We'll be the best of friends, won't we?"
"Yes! Best friends forever!" I felt completely disgusted as I gripped his hand, making sure not to squeeze at all. Trying to seem weak, eager.
Behind his glasses, I could see his intentions. To do harm. To do that, he was going to belittle himself into being a lonely girl's friend.
Then, he was going to break me.
Following closely, would be the Uchiha name.
I smiled so big, that my eyes closed. So he could see into my eyes. So, he wouldn't know that I was on to him.
So, that he wouldn't know I was going to stop him.
After that slimy snake left, I went into Okaa-chan's library and took a couple of books to my room. Not long after reading the second chapter of my first book, the door opened quietly to reveal Miyazaki, the maid from this morning.
"Miyazaki-san! Hello!" I sat up, with a genuine smile on my face. "How was your lessons?"
"Not very interesting, but then again, when was school ever interesting?" She smiled kindly at me.
I tilted my head to the side, "You go to school? Do you go university?"
"No, not yet." Miyazaki began to pick up the clothes that were strewn around the room. "I'm still in high school, in fact, I'm in my first year of high school."
"You are? And you're working as well?" I winced at the state of my room. "I'm so sorry about the mess. I'll try not to make such a big one next time."
"It's okay, Miwa-sama. It's my job," Miyazaki began to straighten the books on my bedside table. "How was your tutor?"
I considered telling her about my gut feelings about Kabuto, but refrained myself. She'll probably tell me that I was being silly, and just tell me that I was nervous about having a tutor.
"It was alright, I had to do some tests so he would see what level I was on." I shrugged, "Normal stuff."
"Oh," The brunette looked at me curiously, "So, you and your tutor just did some normal school stuff?"
"Yeah, it was normal..." I decided to keep my thoughts to myself. Miyazaki was nice, but I didn't know her all that well. It would be hard to determine whether or not, she'll be like those typical "Oh, you're just being silly, dear" adults or an insightful person like Tama and the others.
With time, I'll find out which person is trustworthy in this house.
Hopefully.
