"No matter what you say, no matter what you do. I will never accept the name 'Uchiha' as my surname." My eyes flashed an onyx fire as my voice dripped with ice. "My name is, and always will be, Miwa Alofa Tamatoa."
"He's going to fucking kill me..." I grumbled as I wheeled myself out of the Uchiha Mansion, planning on going around the estate. Avoiding Fugaku for as long as I'm able to.
"Hey! Miwa-chan!"
I turned my head to see Naruto waving at me, Sasuke standing near him. I raised my hand in greeting, forcing a small smile on my face.
The two teenagers made their way to me. Both in their school uniform, which consisted of a simple button down shirt, black trousers and a dark blue blazer. Naruto wore orange converses with his uniform, while Sasuke stuck to normal, dark school shoes with his. Both had their ties loosened, and had their bags slung over their shoulders.
I frowned slightly. "Why are youse in your uniform? Isn't it Saturday?"
"There's a half-day of school on Saturdays." Naruto grinned, "What are you doing out here, Miwa-chan?"
"Oh, you know." I waved my hand around nonchalantly. "Just enjoying the sunshine. Taking a break."
"Yeah?" Naruto stuck his hands in his pockets. "Hey, you know, Kaa-san's been asking for you for ages now. How about you come over for dinner tonight?"
I brightened up at the idea. I'll be able to avoid Fugaku for, at least, another night, and I'll be able to see Kushina again. Although I hadn't known her for very long, I was already quite fond of the fiery woman.
"That sounds great!" My face fell, as I sighed. "But I don't think that Otou-sama would let me go."
Naruto rubbed the back of his neck, "Yeah, maybe."
"Just go."
I blinked in surprise at Sasuke's words. "Huh?"
Sasuke shrugged, "I'll go as well, and Itachi will cover for you."
"Really? He will?" I frowned suspiciously. "Why? What's in it for you two?"
At this, Sasuke's expression hardened, then softened right after. The facial expressions changed so fast, that I barely noticed it.
"We're your brothers."
"MY POOR MIWA-CHAN!"
My vision was obscured by flaming red hair and my hearing was most likely to be damaged permanently by the woman's loud voice.
I glared over Kushina's shoulder at the smirking Sasuke, and threw a pleading look to Naruto and Minato, wondering if they would get Kushina off of me any time soon.
"Alright, Baa-chan, quit suffocating the gaki."
Suddenly, Kushina was literally lifted off of me by a tall, toned male with dark red hair. He flashed me a grin, unusually sharp canines poking out from his lips.
"Didn't get the chance to meet you, huh?" He smirked, looking almost feral with his whisker marks on his cheeks and bright green eyes. "Name's Kurama. Uzumaki-Namikaze Kurama."
I could do nothing but blink up at the very tall male. It seemed like he had inherited his father's genes for height, because he was at the very least standing at six feet, three inches tall. He had long dark red hair styled in dreadlocks, which was tied in a low ponytail at the base of his neck.
He was dangerous.
I frowned up at him.
He was familiar.
He winked at me, a familiar twinkling in his eyes.
Realization dawned on me, I couldn't even find it in me to mouth his name. His codename. Even if I did, I couldn't say it out loud. Not in front of his family, not in front of Sasuke. I didn't know what they knew, and even if they didn't understand, uncomfortable questions would arise.
"Kurama's my oldest son." Kushina smiled, taking the handlebars of my wheelchair into her hands. "Come, let's eat."
I watched Kurama out of the corner of my eye. Watching his interactions with the others in the room. He was rough with Naruto, rough yet at the same time playful and oddly protective whenever Sasuke was near the blonde. He was courteous, yet threatening towards Sasuke for some reason. But it was the slight movements that I was looking for. The ones which would tell me what I needed to know.
As soon as I saw the glint of silver shining from his belt buckle and the leather gloves stuffed in the back of his pocket I knew.
When we were done with dinner, I waited until everyone else went either into the kitchen or into the living room. Pretending to be stretching my back.
I looked Kurama right in the eye and grinned broadly. "Nice to see you again, Kyuubi no Youko."
He smirked, ruffling my hair. "Almost thought you forgot about me, Gaki."
I batted his hands away from my hair. "How could I forget you? You became the second-highest ranking officer in the BBB in the two weeks that you were there. Scared the shit out of everyone when we found out that you made your own gang here, thinking that you were going to terrorise anybody and everybody."
Kurama rubbed the back of his neck. "Yeah… that was our original goal."
I raised an eyebrow.
"But hey, who knew that Blair could be such a big influence." Kurama winced slightly. "Should've seen him when he came to visit this one time. Was not pretty."
"So… you don't terrorise people?" I asked, feeling quite pleased inside.
Kurama shrugged. "Nah, not anymore. We sort of do the same thing as you guys."
I clapped my hands together in excitement, "Really? That's great!"
"That reminds me," Kurama went down on one knee, to look me directly in the eye. "No matter what happens, no matter how good you are. Do not go out by yourself. Especially, when they reveal that you're an Uchiha."
I tilted my head to the side. "Why?"
Kurama sighed. "It's different here. There are more gangs, they have no respect for territories. Once they find out that you're an Uchiha, they'll most likely kidnap you for ransom. You're in danger here."
My eyes grew wide at his warning.
"I guess that might be why they sent you away." The redhead mused. "To keep you safe."
I sat on my window-seat, the curtains drawn back, just so I could look out the window in the dark. It was oddly relaxing, looking out at the world with nothing but the moonlight to illuminate everything. People say that the dark is scary, that it's dangerous. But I don't think so.
The dark is mysterious.
People are afraid of mysteries.
They don't know what to expect. It makes them uncomfortable. It troubles them.
Mysteries keep me on the edge. It keeps me alert.
They are…
Interesting.
Just like the dark.
You never know who or what could be out there in the dark of the night, but then again, what's the fun in knowing everything there is to know about life?
The door opened and someone stood at the entrance.
Knowing that they couldn't see me fully, I slowly closed my eyes and pretended to be asleep. Trying to keep my breathing low and even, and my form as relaxed as I could make it.
The person came into my room and stood next to my "sleeping" form. Just staring at me.
It was very creepy.
I stirred slightly, shifting my body so that I could face the stranger in my room. Peering from under my lashes, I suppressed a gasp. There was no mistaking those hands or those clothes.
It was Fugaku.
He came closer, and gently, so very gently, took me into his arms and carried me to the bed. Holding me like I was a princess. As he lay me down, I felt a small drop of liquid fall onto my cheek.
He… was crying?
With tenderness that I never knew he was capable of, he pressed his lips to my temple and began to rise.
Out of reflex, I grabbed his sleeve but I didn't open my eyes. Too ashamed of my outburst from earlier to look him directly in the eye.
He brushed my bangs away from my face, it was then that I opened my eyes to look up at him.
Fugaku smiled softly, but oh so sadly. I felt a pang in my chest, no. It was more like a knife twisting it's way into my heart. So much guilt.
I hurt him.
Gently, he pried my fingers from his sleeve and left the room.
