Chapter Three Life at the Moons: Christmas, Solstice, echoes of the past, and the protection of the Moons

The wizarding version of Christmas thus far for Harry had been pretty typical except for a few slight changes. The first difference is that Christmas was celebrated whenever the winter solstice happened to be, the second change was that you were only allowed to get everyone one gift, the third change was that on the winter solstice they channeled the light during the sunrise into a white crystal that produced a small white magical flame. Every single family member put their hands into the flames where they get an out of body experience where they can feel the presence of their ancestors. Everything else though was pretty much the same there was a tree, a feast, and the love of family. Though this year for Harry would also be slightly different because it would be his first time celebrating the dark family traditions from what he understood there was only one real difference which was the flame would be created from the sunset and the connection to your ancestors was somehow different anyway it was certainly going to be interesting. As Harry arrived at breakfast he noticed that Boris who had arrived from two days ago from Hogwarts for Christmas break and Lilith were already up along with Perrin and Valorea. Lilith and Harry agreed yesterday that there would be no sword practice for today so Harry could actually take his time eating breakfast which consisted of bacon, scrambled eggs, and fruit salad. Perrin was already done with breakfast and reading the Daily Prophet when he noticed Harry was up,

"Merry Christmas Harry I'm happy to see you're up traditionally the Christmas before Hogwarts our family does a magical blessing for continued health, for continued strength, and for protection do you want to do that Harry?"

Harry thought for second then replied, "Sure is there anything else?"

Valorea spoke, "Our family has been discussing something for a while now we would like to make you a magical heir to our house"

Harry was shocked what they were offering was that if something happened to their entire family he would inherit everything they owned and magically he would be considered a member of their family he could even learn their family magic,

"If everyone in the family is okay with that I'd be really honored"

Perrin nodded, "We have discussed this as a family, and we are all in agreement now Harry the process is pretty simple and straight forward so come over here"

Harry went over to where Perrin was standing his eyes and head of the family ring were glowing,

"I Perrin Jonathon Moon the Head of the Moon Family hereby declare Harry James Potter a magical heir to the Moon Family not above blood or marriage but as of now the third heir to the Moon Family do you accept this Harry James Potter?"

In a firm voice Harry responded, "I do"

Perrin nodded, "Than I declare that it is so"

A flash of light came over Harry and he began to feel Mercle Manor in a similar manor that he felt Perlington. Perrin nodded,

"Now onto the blessings"

Perrin led them all to a small dark room with no light except for the blue glowing circle in the middle of the room Perrin's deep voice then echoed across the room,

"Both of you take of your outermost clothes and enter the circle"

After they did so Boris, Valorea, and Perrin surrounded them Valorea spoke first, "We are here today to bless two children as they head of into the world"

Perrin then spoke, "I declare Lilith Moon to be ours by magic and blood the second heir the other Harry Potter by magic an heir third in line"

Boris then spoke, "As heir apparent of the Moon Family I hereby declare onto them a blessing of health"

Valorea's voice then joined Boris as they conferred the next blessing, "I appoint a blessing of extra strength"

Lastly Perrin voice joined, "Finally I appoint a blessing of protection do you Harry Potter and Lilith Moon accept this blessing"

The blue light of the circle glowed all around them encasing them in light as they both replied,

"We hereby accept these blessing's that our freely given"

The blue light of the circle then shot into both of their backs leaving behind a small barely noticeable M on their shoulders. Lilith was a bit unsteady on her feet she would have fallen if Valorea didn't catch her after a couple seconds of shaking she stopped. Harry had a similar experience except he was shaking for a longer time. The rest of Christmas day was fairly uneventful to nightfall. They had a lunch of beef vegetable soup and a family snowball fight which ended up being the adults against the kids there was no clear winner to the fight. So everyone rewarded themselves with cups of steaming hot coco. All too soon the sun was about to set so they headed down a corridor that led deep underground until they came upon a room with a slit in the wall which Perrin opened then he took out of his pocket a black crystal which he set upon a pedestal. A couple silent minutes later the sun light came through the slit in the wall hitting the crystal lighting it up and over the top of the crystal it created a black swirling light that eventually formed into a flickering black flame. In years past when Harry touched the white flames that the light families produced he felt a deep sense of peace and belonging with his ancestors. However touching the Moon's black flames was different in two ways first he was a Moon magically so he not only felt the Potter's ancestors but the Moon's as well. Secondly instead of peace he felt several different things he felt fear, happiness, sorrow, triumph, and failure all at once though he couldn't remember any of it afterwards in a whirl of color he saw these emotions from different ancestors it was almost like an echo from the past. Then after feeling and seeing each emotion there was nothing left to feel but peace, all there was to see was a black nothingness, and there was also this strange sense of belonging. Then the blackness disappeared there was a few minutes of complete and utter silence. Valorea was the first to break it walking over to the slit in the wall and closing it,

"Alright we got two hours till supper that you can do anything you want I'd advise all of you not to be late"

With that everyone left to do their own thing till supper time which was a feast that consisted of turkey, mashed potatoes, corn, and apple pie. Then at the end of the day they exchanged gifts the most notable items that each person received were Lilith got a knife that turned into a sword, Boris got a Nimbus 98 so he could try out for the Hufflepuff team next year, Perrin got a dragon leather coat, Valorea got gloves made of dragon leather, and Harry got a watch which he could put his entire schedule for next year in it. So all in all in Harry's humble opinion Christmas had been pretty good.

Chapter 4 Life at the Moons: Perrin's thoughts, different perspectives across the wizarding world, and shadows in the dark

Perrin's office was a medium room with two portraits on the right side of the room both were of serene forest's which had wizard following light and dark lords facing off. One of the portraits had the sun rising the other was set in the dark of night. On the left side of the room hung several scythes in between was his desk which was covered in old tomes and paper work. Sitting in his desk Perrin was lost in his thoughts something definitely wasn't right in Dumbledore's unhealthy fixation on Harry. At first the alliance members were convinced that Harry had shown signs that he could become a lord level wizard however that wasn't the case because universally even at a young age lord level wizards and witches could project there magic to everyone around them in something called a thrall. Harry was certainly powerful but he wasn't a lord level wizard. So why did Albus Dumbledore do everything in his power to try to control him and tell everyone that it was Harry who defeated the Dark Lord despite the fact that according to what Harry had told them that Lily and James invoked some type family blood magic. The only conclusion that they all reached was one they hoped wasn't correct that Albus wanted to use Harry as some type of show piece to unite the wizarding world under one banner for a war which means there was either another dark lord rising or he believed Voldemort would return. Not a good thought there were only two lord level in history with a raw power rating of fourteen or above Voldemort was one of them. That was why everyone was so shocked when he was defeated the ministry had already been all but taken over and most families were preparing themselves for his long reign. If Voldemort returned Harry would be the first on his kill list and they were all unsure if they could protect Harry from him. Though the entirety of the alliance had decided that if it happened they would try but to have even remote chance of success they would need all the intelligence that they could gather. The men who held this intelligence was Albus Dumbledore someone who from his personal observation always held his cards close to his chest. Before Harry entered Hogwarts the alliance members decided to have a meeting with Dumbledore to try to pry the information they needed because to them Harry was far more than banner and a pawn in some great game he was a practically a family member to each of them.

Harry was sitting in Perlington on one of the cushiest chairs in the library reading a journal that one his ancestors who married into the Moon family wrote. His ancestors actions made him think deeply about power how there was always a price whether the Lovegood's lives being tied with the Emerald Forest or with the Moon's power of necromancy cutting of life from a family member. His ancestor was married to someone with Lilith's condition she had come up with a ritual that combined their souls in exchange she lost roughly fifty years of her natural life while he gained thirty more. According to the journal they both lived happy productive lives dying both on the same day in their mid-seventies. Harry couldn't imagine a greater sacrifice then that he also knew that if he ever suggested doing such a thing for Lilith she would extremely angry with him because she valued his life as much as he valued hers. But a part of him wanted to do it anyway despite the fact he would be married and could be with no other for as long as he lived. The other feeling he had was anger what right had her ancestors had to shorten her life to gain such great power. However the more he thought about it the more confused he became didn't his ancestors also make choices that affected him? Investing in various businesses, building this manor he was sitting in, buying land, teaching their children their traditions and their values. Deciding to think about it another time he put the journal away he decided to tell Lilith about the ritual without any offer involved for all he knew she could find someone she really loved and the person might be willing to do it. Either way at the very least she would have a choice which was more than she currently had. Perhaps he should also talk to Valorea to see how he could broach this topic without it blowing up in his face Marian most likely would also have some good advice. Interrupting his thoughts was the man he was waiting for Remus who was taking him to a Quiditch game originally there tickets were in the one of the lower rows but somehow they were given tickets for the top box. Harry had a suspicion that Draco since he was also going to the game was somehow involved in them getting such good seats. If he was right that meant that Remus and Lucius would get into a silent staring contest with any wrong words a pretense for bringing out their wands. He hoped Mrs. Malfoy would be there she seemed to scare both of them which was strange sense Remus werewolf instincts made him hardly ever back down the other thing Harry wondered was how long it would take for Draco to notice he was in disguise so he didn't have people gawking at him he doubted it would take all that long because Draco knew who Remus was,

"Well Harry you seem lost in your thoughts"

Harry nodded, "That's because I am"

Remus nodded, "Do you want to talk about it?"

Harry's piercing green eye's looked at Remus, "I'd like to but Lilith told me to keep it a secret and I don't want to break her trust"

Remus smiled, "I see so you ready for the game?"

Harry smiled, "Yep then were meeting everyone for ice cream"

Remus grinned, "That's not even the best part Harry it's free ice cream Xenophilius is paying for both of us"

With the thought of ice cream and Quiditch Harry let his thoughts and worries go how could any day be better?

As Rita Skeeter looked down at her three year daughter she thought about how completely life changes yes she was still the heartless reporter who took pride in the utter destruction of the powerful. But instead of motivations being strictly to lash out at the world that destroyed her father in his quest for status and power or her mother who refused to acknowledge her because her blood wasn't completely pure. She now had a purpose to make the terrible people in power fall and make the life of her daughter a little better. Her little Inga an accident that came to be something she considered her greatest gift. Even now she could have sworn she had used magical protection while she was getting information from the Castle's family's patriarch about some muggle sex ring that he helped finance and run. Her daughter was a first generation pureblood something her father would have done anything to get looking down at her information she had gotten on the Terrace family she could feel the next great story unfolding. Their son a prominent pureblood heir had been kidnapped so far no clues or demands had been found. Her instincts told her this would be the first in a great crime wave that was sure to come.

Jacob Denary was wizard born of two muggleborns his parents were both killed by death eaters it was a day he would never forget they caught his mother and father off guard magically tying them to a pole and burning them alive. Sometimes he could sometimes still smell the burning stench of flesh and hear their final screams. The aurors had come in time to save him but he would never forget. Even after he who must not be named demise it was hard to find work laws impeding his rights stopped him at every turn. Dumbledore offered words saying things would get better but that's all they really were there was no doubt in his mind Dumbledore was a great wizard but actions were the only thing that could change society. So he took things into his own hands by forming a group of like-minded muggleborn's and halfblood's The Brotherhood of the Fox. There plans were pretty straight forward kidnap prominent pureblood heirs and threaten their lives if the laws didn't change how they wanted them to it was a harsh thing but it had to be done. They had to fight fire with fire if they wanted a better world.

A little forward in time June before Harry's first Year

A start that is what Lord Voldemort now had sure Quill was something that he considered just above barely useful but he did have his uses the philosophers stone would be the quickest most efficient way to get a body of his own. However he had to operate like a true slytherin in the shadows he had to bypass all obstacle's in his way with no one being any wiser so he would wait to go after Harry Potter no cheap tricks he would meet his end by his hand in due time whether it be three years or ten it would make no difference as long as he died by his hand alone. Failure wasn't an option he contemplated because failure was for lesser men he would rise again and from the shadows he would achieve victory before he revealed himself to the world. Yes first magical Britan would fall then the world anything that would stand in his way would be eliminated.
