"So you're saying that the sword controls the demon side of Inuyasha," Kagome squeaked at Myoga. The tiny flea pounced in surprised, jumping all the way to my wrist and clutching my sleeve. I peered at Myoga curiously, wondering what he meant.
"What do you mean Myoga, how does the sword control that side of him, he didn't have it his whole life, so why did he suddenly turn like that?" Myoga recovered quickly and looked up at me, his tiny face creased with serious concern.
"I believe so, but answer me this, are you certain Inuyasha went through a transformation?" He asked turning his head around frantically. Kagome nodded animatedly, worry drenching her complexion.
"But how does it have to do with the fact that the Tetsaiga getting broken?"
"It does have something to do with that. As you are aware, Tetsaiga was an heirloom left to inuyasha by his father, the great dog demon of the West. The sword is meant to protect Inuyasha from his enemies. But it has a second purpose: keeping the inner demon he has locked up and out of reach." Kagome gasped her face grave.
"It keeps the demon locked up?" Miroku exclaimed looking confused.
"Inuyasha's death is inevitable once Tetsaiga is broken. His strong desire to live awakened to demon blood in his veins, and even once the Tetsaiga is fixed, keeping that demon locked up will be even harder to do since now he has really experienced what it is like to brutally slay his enemy." We all gasped, thinking of Inuyasha's face from that time. Oh lord, what if he doesn't remember us and attacks us? This could turn out badly if he can't control it. His mind can't that weak, can it?
We all didn't see Inuyasha again until sundown the next day, to which he stated that Totosei was currently fixing the sword as best he could. I left him to talk to Kagome, Miroku, and the others, as I needed to get some practicing done on myself. Damn them if I'm going to be left as useless again, Naraku is never going to get me off guard again. I borrowed some arrows from Kagome and started to practice my archery in a nearby tree. I was never good at archery, and now I was facing the repercussions of my lack of practice. After what seemed like an hour, my hands were blistering red, and I hadn't shot a proper target yet. Agh, Damn enough, I thought to myself as I dropped Kagome's bow, going to retrieve the arrows on the ground. Suddenly, I felt the hairs on the back of my neck stand, and I shivered. Someone is watching me, I thought to myself, walking cautiously towards the arrows, grasping one in a death grip. Tensing I turned to stab at anything, but was shocked to see nothing. Sighing in relief, I continued collect the arrows and I started to head back to, the uneasy feeling lingering in the shadows . . .
When I returned I noticed that everyone was gathered around the fire cooking something. Tired I sat down, stretching my aching muscles a bit. That was when I looked up and took a good look at Inuyasha.
"AAAHH," I yelled, flinching at the sight of him. "What happened to Inuyasha? Where are his ears? What happened to his hair?" Inuyasha glared at me in annoyance, his black hair glistening with the light of the fire. I turned to Sango to see the look of surprise still registered on her face. Inuyasha was different; it was like all the dog features of him were gone. His hair had turned all black, his ears replaced by normal human ones, and his claws were gone. What is going on?
"Oh my," remarked Sango, "he looks like an ordinary human now," she said, her eyes widening in wonder. Miroku smiled at both of us knowingly, as if he had some huge secret to hide. Conceited idiot?
"I guess you didn't know this about Inuyasha. I had heard this had happened to him, but this is actually the first time I've seen it," Miroku replied, scotching over to sit next to Inuyasha, ignoring the suspicious glare he received. "You see half-demons such as Inuyasha, have a period of time when all their powers disappear and they become ordinary humans. For Inuyasha, such a time is this nigh where there is no moon." Miroku reached out and started pinching Inuyasha's cheeks, revealing his teeth. "You see now," he remarked laughing softly, "No fangs, shocking is it not."
"Would you get your kicks somewhere other than in my face," Inuyasha shouted making Miroku back away. I held back my laughter, as he did look funny as a human.
"My apologies," replied Miroku, making Inuaysha scoff in annoyance. Miroku turned back towards Sango and me. "If a half-demon is attacked on a such an occasion, than his life is in extreme danger." Inuyasha looked back at Miroku in debrief. Uh-oh.
"And how is it you know about this Miroku," Inuyasha yelled, to which he got no response. Shippou I noticed started to quietly leave the circle, which Inuyasha noticed when I did. "Shippou," he growled getting up to grab the little fox demon by the tail. "It was you!" I turned away from them to let them continue they're bickering.
"Inuyasha," I called not turning to see if he heard me, "when you arrived did you smell anyone different in the area, like a demon or something odd." Inuyasha was silent and walked back to where he was, staring at me intently.
"No, but my perception was lacking because of tonight, but why do you ask?" I looked down, my hands making small twirls in the soil to distract myself.
"I dunno, I feel something watching me, it's strange I don't know if its Naraku, but I cant get this feeling away from me." There was silence then, nothing that gave me any comfort. Inuyasha suddenly got up, turning his back at us to walk to the hill ahead.
"I'm sure its nothing serious, your worrying too much, get some rest we need to head out tomorrow," he said not looking back at us. Kagome got up at this and followed him, leaving me with the others.
"Kaname, I'm quite curious as well but are you also a half-demon?" Miroku asked suddenly, his gaze piercing me. Shocked at this question, I didn't reply. What? Is he talking about what Koshinki said?
"As far as I am aware," I said, a tint of annoyance edging my voice, "I am completely human." Inuyasha's head shook at this making my patience nearly fall off the rims. "What! Do you think I'm lying Inuyasha!" I shouted at him in a loud voice, making Shippou and Kagome shrink back in shock. Inuyasha didn't flinch, he just glared.
"It just doesn't seem right, you could smell Kanna's presence the other night, you felt the same as I did when there were demons all around, how could a lowly human be able to do that? And then there is what Koshinki said, Naraku thinks you're a half demon and wants to capture you. What is it you are not telling us? Your powers have come in and out ever since you arrived with us and so far you've not been able to control it." Tired of his tangent I raised my hand, signaling him to stop. I got up to my feet and started to walk towards the tree, turning my back at everyone.
"I don't know what is going on with me," I whispered, my voice shaking with my attempt to hide my fright and confusion. "I've been attacked everywhere I go and there have been people questioning my own species, I don't know what is happening and people are after me, that is all that I know. I'm going to sleep good-night." Not bothering to let them stop me, I went around the tree and lay down against it and closed my eyes, ready for sleep to come to me.
