Ok so I love Callen's name. Grisha Aleksandrovich Nikolaev. I don't know it just suits him so well. So I decided I needed to find out what the name means. So here it is.
Grisha means Watchful or vigilant. That pretty much sums up Callen.
So of course I have to write this into the Changes story line. I hope you enjoy my take on how Callen meets his father and finds out his name.
THREE MONTHS AFTER THE LAST CHAPTER.
Mac was surprised when her dad called asking her to meet him for lunch. She told Hetty where she was going and headed out. She arrived at the restaurant and found her father waiting on her.
"Hi daddy."
"Hello Nadya."
Mac kissed her father's cheek and sat down.
"Ok dad what's up?"
"Why does something have to be up?"
"Because we are all having dinner tonight and this must be important for us to meet without Callen knowing."
"I have information on his father."
Mac put the menu down and looked at her dad. "You found him didn't you?"
"Yes."
"Oh my god dad this is amazing."
"It gets better. He wants to meet his son." Victor sips at his drink. "I am in the process of bringing Nikita here to Los Angeles."
"Dad this is amazing."
"If my timing is good then he will be here just before your wedding anniversary."
"Callen will love this gift."
"Yes but the gift will come from you. I will introduce you before. Nikita knows about you and he wants to meet his daughter in law privately."
"Ok." Mac didn't know how to take this. She didn't say more as the waitress came to take their order.
Mac figured that she had less than three weeks before Nikita was here. She was afraid that he wouldn't like her. She was after all part of the family that had killed his wife.
"So what do you know about him?"
"He works for the CIA now helping agents in distress by providing safe house and transport out of the country."
"I still can't believe you found him."
"He found me."
"What?"
"I was working on a deal to bring some Russian items into the country and he approached me. Said he knew who I was and that I knew his son."
Mac shook her head. This was a lot to wrap her head around.
"He said he wanted to meet his son and could I make it happen."
"How did he find out about me?"
"I told him that Callen had married my daughter and that he was under my protection and I would put anyone who tried to hurt my family in the ground."
"Well that's one way to introduce yourself."
"Do not worry child this needs to happen. Callen needs answers."
"I know he does."
THAT NIGHT.
Callen had no clue anything was off. It took everything in Mac not to tell him.
"Now I have already spoken with Hetty and your anniversary party will be here." Said Sara.
"That's fine mom but you don't have to go all out."
"I'm not we decided to have it catered."
"What no Romanian foods?" said Callen looking a bit upset.
"Of course I will make some of your favorites." Sara patted Callen's hand. "Have to keep my son happy."
"Your brothers are both coming too." Said Victor.
"Mommy how long have you been married to daddy?" asked Anna.
"Four years." Mac said and looked over at Callen. "But we've been together almost six."
"Best six years of my life." Said Callen leaning over to kiss his wife.
For the next two weeks Mac got updates from her father about Nikita. He had made it to DC and was meeting with someone from the CIA for a few days. Victor would pick him up at the airport and he would stay at the beach house as he wanted to be close to his family.
Mac wanted to offer for him to stay with them. They had a twin bed in Chris's room for when Sara stayed over. She knew Callen would want to spend as much time with his dad as he could.
Then the day came. The team was out in the field but Mac had stayed back to help in ops. Hetty told her to go to the beach house and she would handle Callen.
Sara was at their house with Clara and Chris so Mac knew it would only be her dad at the beach house. She walked in and was greeted by her father.
"Come Nadya." He led her out to the deck where an older man stood.
"Nadya this is Nikita Alexander Reznikov." I simply stood there. "Nikita my daughter MacKenna Nadya Callen."
"It is nice to meet you sir." Mac finally says.
"So my son married a Comescu?"
"Well he didn't know I was one at the time. Neither did I."
"You spent two years in Moscow as an agent?"
Mac nodded.
"You were friends with a woman there, Annya?"
"Yes. We lost touch after I was sent state side."
Nikita nodded then smiled. "She is the daughter of a friend of mine. She married the year after you left and named her daughter after you."
"I'm glad to know she is well."
"I will give you her information so you can contact her if you like."
Nikita looked Mac up and down. "Victor says you have children."
"Yes we have three. Anna is our oldest she just turned 8, Clara is about to turn 3 and Chris is six months."
"You have only been married four years?"
"I got pregnant with Clara just after we got married." Mac looked at her father in law. "We adopted Anna when Clara was one. Chris is six months old now."
"My son is a good husband and father?"
"He's amazing."
I never realized my dad had left till he came back with coffee.
"So tell me more about my son."
For the next two hours Mac told Nikita stories about Callen and their family.
"I have one question."
"What is it daughter?"
"What is Callen's name?" Mac asked. "He's only gone by G Callen. He was too little to remember much."
"His name is Grisha."
"Ok never would have guessed that."
Nikita smiled. "His mother named him."
"I need to get back to work before he misses me."
"I will see you again soon. I look forward to meeting my grandchildren."
For the first time Nikita smiled at Mac.
The party was in two days. Two days Mac had to keep the secret. Lucky for her their case kept them busy so they didn't see each other that much.
Then the day of the party came. Mac made sure that the kids were all dressed in their best outfits. She was going to put Callen in a suit but figured he'd know something was up so she settled for a nice button down shirt.
"Ok why are you so nervous today?"
"I'm not just excited."
"I can't believe it's been four years."
"Yeah neither can I."
They got to the beach house and found everyone else there.
"Callen I really hope you like your gift."
"Why wouldn't I?"
Mac opened the door and they walked in. Everyone was quiet which confused Callen who was last in holding Chris. Clara ran to her grandmother and Mac took Chris from Callen who was staring at the man in front of them.
"Callen I'd like you to meet your father."
"Zdravstvuyte Grisha."
"Grisha?" Callen stood there looking confused.
"Grisha Alexandrovich Nikolaev."
They heard Deeks say. "Wow that's a mouthful." Then him saying ow as Kensi hit him to shut him up.
"Your mother wanted you to know where you came from."
"She named me?"
"Yes."
"Come everyone lets go out on the deck and give these two sometime." Said Hetty.
Mac was going to walk past when Nikita stopped him.
"May I hold him?"
"Of course." Mac handed Chris over to Nikita. "Here you go Chris say hi to your grandfather."
"He looks just like you did as a baby." Nikita handed Chris back and looked at Callen.
"You must hate me?"
"No I don't hate you."
Mac took Chris out with the others and handed him to Victor.
"Ok there is no way G is going to top your gift." Said Sam laughing.
Nikita and Callen sat on the couches and looked at each other.
"I did what I had to at the time to keep you safe."
"I know you did."
"I was planning on joining you but I was arrested only days after you left Romania."
"It's ok I understand." Callen stood. "Let's go join the others, today is a day to celebrate."
"I agree. And I need to meet my granddaughters."
When they walked out Mac gave Clara a little push and she ran to Nikita.
"Hi Deduskoy." (Russian for grandfather.)
"Ah my little Clara. Such a pretty little one." Nikita picked her up. "And this must be Anna."
"Hello grandfather."
Everyone else had already met Nikita so Sara insisted they eat. There were Sara's homemade Romanian foods as well as some Russian ones and American foods. Nikita insisted on Christopher being put next to him so he could feed him.
"Grisha was always an easy baby to look after."
"I still can't believe your name is Grisha." Said Sam.
"You have a problem with it big guy?" asked Callen.
"No it fits you. But you'll always be G to me."
"So Callen what did you get your wife?" asked Deeks.
Everyone looked at Callen. "Um."
"Told you he couldn't top her gift." Said Sam.
"Yeah it's never going to beat finding my father." Callen got up and went to the den and came back with a small flat box. He handed it to Mac and sat back down. She took the lid off and pulled out a packet of papers.
"Don't tell me you want a divorce?" Joked Mac.
"Read them."
Mac started to read the papers and her jaw dropped. "Are you kidding me?"
"Nope it's ours."
"What is yours?" Asked Vlad.
"The cabin."
"Cabin?" Deeks said and looked around the room. "What cabin?"
"Hetty arranged for us to spend a week at a cabin when I was pregnant." Mac looked at Callen. "And Callen bought the place."
"I know how much you loved that place and Hetty found out it was for sale so I bought it."
"It's outside Mammoth has three bedrooms on the second floor and the master on the first. Plus a hot tub and a lake out back."
"Wait you have your own lake?" asked Kensi.
"We don't own it Kens it just sits on our property. There are other cabins along the lake too." Said Callen.
Michele made a sound and Sam groaned. "All I got this year was a new blender." Said Michele.
"I got a day at the spa." Said Kensi.
"You are all welcome to use the cabin." Said Mac.
"That is very generous of you daughter." Said Nikita.
"We're family." Said Mac like that explained everything.
Nikita simply nodded in understanding.
Clara slipped out of her booster seat and walked over to Nikita and looked at him. "Up Deduskoy." (up grandpa)
Nikita chuckled and picked up the little girl.
"Her Russian is very good."
"We're teaching them both Russian and Romanian. Clara spoke Russian first then English."
"Except she refused to say daddy and usually just told him no all the time."
"Don't reminded me."
Nikita looked at Clara. "kakaya khoroshaya devochka." (what a good girl.) He then looked at Callen.
"You named her after your mother?"
"And Hetty. Clara Henrietta."
"And we named Christopher after his Great Grandfather George."
"And what is Anna's middle name?"
"Natalia." Said Anna proudly.
"And how is your Russian little one?"
"Moy russkiy ochen' khoroshiy deduska." (My Russian is very good grandfather.)
"I have very smart grandchildren."
It was late when everyone headed home.
"Callen you should invite him to stay with us while he's here."
"Are you sure?"
"He's your father of course I am."
Callen nodded and walked over to Nikita.
"We want you to stay with us while you're here in LA."
"I would like that very much son."
"Tvoya mat' byla by tak gorzhus' toboy." (Your mother would have been so proud of you.)
Callen got choked up for a moment.
"You'll have to tell me all about her."
"In time I will tell you everything."
They drove to the house and for the first time Callen was grateful they had gotten an SUV.
"Ok everyone grab a kid." Said Mac as they parked the car. Callen picked up Anna, Mac got Clara and Nikita took Chris. They showed him where the baby's room was and Nikita insisted on putting the little guy to bed.
After getting Anna settled Callen went to check on his dad. Nikita was in the rocking chair holding Chris and singing quietly to him in Russian. When he noticed Callen he stopped.
"I used to sing you to sleep too."
"You did?" Callen sat down on the bed.
"Yes. Your mother would bathe you and I would rock you to sleep and sing to you."
Callen smiled.
"I missed so much." Said Nikita.
"Well you can spend as much time with the kids as you want."
"I would like that."
Chris was now asleep so Nikita put him in the crib.
"I hope it's ok if you share the room with him. We can move the crib to our room tomorrow."
"No, no I want my grandson here with me. I want to help take care of him."
"Ok then. I'll let you get settled in."
"Grisha I want you to know this. Your mother, sister and you were the most important things in my life. When I lost you I lost a part of myself. I would give everything I have to take back all the lost time."
"It's ok, I understand." Callen smiled at his father. "You're here now and that's all that matters. MacKenna and I want you to know that this is your home now too. You can stay as long as you like."
"I will stay for a time. I still have work to do in Russia."
"You never know dad you may just decide to stay here."
Callen left the room and missed his father's smile. "I just may."
