Chapter 33: Welcome to Haven, Part 1!

The planet Klattu

"You have to admit, it has been a wonderful couple of days." Marie smiled as she walked into a spacecraft. Behind her, the other Lost Mutants were also boarding the ship. Much to Sam's consternation, Jocasta convinced him and the kids to take a couple more days to rest after their ordeals.

I hope we didn't lose too much time. Sam thought as he watched the Lost Mutants gather around the spaceship. Whatever this great evil is, I highly doubt it will let us slow down too much. Hell, we still have to figure out that this evil these guys are supposed to fight IS.

"Yeah, you bet, Red!" Jennifer chuckled as she followed Marie. She looked up at the sky. "You got a helluva beach, Vision."

Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Mainframe answered.

"Who would've thought an Avenger would end up becoming a planet..." Jennifer chuckled as she walked into the ship. Jocasta noticed Sam was lost in thought.

"Are you alright, Sam?" The nanohive Avenger wondered out loud.

"Yeah, I'm fine." Sam nodded. "It's just I'm wondering if that little sudden vacation was a mistake."

"A mistake?"

"Yeah." Sam nodded. "This great evil, whatever it is, is NOT going to wait for the kids to be ready for it."

"Sam, we don't even know what this great evil is." Jocasta reminded. "I understand that you are worried, but we can't push the kids so hard. They still do need to rest and relax every so often." Sam sighed. "You have led many teams over the centuries. You of all people should know this."

"Yeah, you're right, you're right." Sam admitted.

"And you have faced a lot of horrible crises." Jocasta continued. "And so have these young mutants. You'll find a way to win."

"I hope so." Sam sighed. "Considering that Haroun and Ray can't return home due to the alterations they went through...I hope that sacrifice was worth it."

"I still can't believe we mutants have our own planet." Doug shook his head.

"That's kind of awesome, actually." Roberto admitted as he took a seat next to Sam.

"We...didn't get it through the best of means." Sam sighed sadly.

"What do you mean?" The Brazilian mutant blinked in confusion. Sam shot him a look. "Oh, right. Can't tell us. Future spoilers and all that." He sighed. "That really sucks. Not even a hint?"

"Not if I can help it." The Kentucky native smirked.

"A mutant homeworld." Danielle Moonstar remarked as she took a seat next to Haroun al-Rashid. "Our own planet. That is something."

"One of the many wonders of this future time." Haroun nodded in agreement. "Although I will admit, I am curious. I wonder what that world will be like. What wonders will we behold there?"

"Maybe there will be statues of us or something." Dani shrugged. "I don't know." She then thought for a moment. "Maybe we'll meet the descendants of the other X-Men there."

"Would the other X-Men have had family lines that lasted a thousand years?" Haroun whispered, not wanting to get Sam's attention. "It's possible Sam has descendants, but the others?"

"Yeah..." Dani mumbled. "Good point. I do wonder how mutants got their own planet, though. Knowing our luck, we probably had to flee Earth or something."

"Wouldn't surprise me." Haroun shrugged. "I do hope I do Mainframe proud. After all, he gave me his blessing to use the 'Vision' moniker."

I would not worry about it, my young friend. Mainframe reassured in Haroun's head. It was my pleasure to pass the moniker and costume on to you. I do believe that you are more than capable of helping to fight this great evil.

"No pressure then." Dani sighed. I hope we can do this...

Haven

Some time later on Haven, the mutant woman known as Mindscan was moving her hands over a glowing orb. The globe-sized orb was glowing a brilliant white, and the glow pulsed in a regular rhythm.

"Hmmm..." The redheaded purple dress-wearing mutant raised an eyebrow at something she saw in the orb. "I had better alert Queen Rancor about this." She closed her eyes and concentrated, using her telepathic powers to contact the queen of the planet.

Yes, Mindscan? She heard the voice of the descendant of Wolverine in her head.

I have detected a ship heading towards us. Mindscan explained. How shall we greet them?

Show me the ship. Rancor commanded. Mindscan let Rancor see the ship in the orb through her eyes. That's Guthrie's ship. Send Batwing and Blaster to meet him. And remind them to BE CIVIL.

Yes, your majesty. Mindscan nodded. She opened her eyes and chuckled to herself. She then closed her eyes again. Blaster, Batwing, there is a ship heading towards us. It's Captain Marvel's.

Captain Marvel's, huh? Blaster responded. Neat. We don't see him much around Haven often.

He has a lot of business on Earth. Mindscan reminded. It must be very important if he's willing to come here. Back at the ship, Sam was smiling at the pilot's seat.

"What're you smiling about, Sam?" Jocasta asked from the navigator's seat.

"I'm just imagining the look on old Rancor's face when she meets these kids."

"Ah, she was a skeptic of the Lost Mutants prophecy." Jocasta recalled.

"Yeah, she was." Sam started to chuckle. "A very big skeptic. I can't wait to see how far her jaw drops from her face." He noticed two figures fly towards the ship. "Ah, two of the Royal Guard." Jocasta frowned at the window. Her eyes started to glow a light green.

"Blaster and Batwing." She identified the two figures. "You think those two fought the entire time they flew here?"

"I think we'd hear them if they did." Sam remarked.

"Attention, Captain Marvel!" They heard Blaster speak over the intercom. "Welcome to Haven! I take it you know the procedure?"

"Yeah, I do." Sam answered. "I have to speak to Queen Rancor. I have some...very special cargo on board."

"...special cargo?" Batwing inquired.

"Yeah. I have to show it to Rancor. Her jaw will drop."

"Is he serious?!" Blaster inquired.

"I highly doubt Captain Marvel would make that into a joke." Batwing frowned.

"Captain, what kind of special cargo do you have on board?" Blaster asked into his communicator.

"Some guests. A few old friends." Sam explained.

"Old friends, huh?" Batwing blinked in confusion.

"Stand by." Blaster ordered. He turned to Batwing. "Hey, wingnut! Should we let him land at the castle?"

"I...I suppose." Batwing answered. What kind of old friends is the Captain talking about?

"Right." Blaster reopened his communicator link to Sam's ship. "Follow us!" Batwing and Blaster turned around, and Sam adjusted the ships' flight direction to follow them. Jocasta started to giggle.

"What're you giggling about, Jocasta?" Sam wondered.

"I can hear them shouting at each other." Jocasta chuckled. Sam joined in.

"That's no surprise. Those two will argue over everything. What're they going on about this time?"

"I think they're going on about some feud between two singers."

Sam rolled his eyes. "Of course."

"Hey, Sam?" Sam and Jocasta turned around and saw Danielle peeking into the cockpit. "How much longer? We're getting kind of hungry back here."

"Only a few minutes." Sam answered. "Tell the others to get buckled up." Danielle nodded.

"Right." The Cheyenne mutant obeyed. Sam and Jocasta looked at each other.

"How do you think they'll take to Haven?" The nanotech hive giggled. Sam chuckled.

"I think they'll be amazed." He then noted a castle up ahead. "There it is. Rancor's castle."

The castle was a multi-story affair, almost resembling one from medieval times, with tall glass towers in the corners in the castle's walls. The ancient stone features hid an advanced technical home for the Queen and her Royal Guard. In the center of the castle appeared to be the ancient Xavier Institute...at least a perfect copy of it.

"It still amazes me how beautiful the castle is." Jocasta smiled. Sam nodded in agreement.

"Yeah." Sam agreed. "Prepare landing procedures." Meanwhile, the Lost Mutants were looking out the windows at the planet.

"Wow..." Danielle gasped in amazement at the city below. "This is incredible."

"Amazing." Haroun agreed. "Our own world. And our kind built this out of it."

"I gotta admit, this is pretty badass." Jennifer grinned. "I'd love to explore this city."

"Knowing Sam, he probably would not let us." Amara reminded.

Jennifer rolled her eyes. "That guy is no fun." She huffed and sank back down into her seat. "Was he that damn anti-fun a thousand years ago?" Amara's face scrunched in thought, then she shook her head.

"No. He used to take us dirt-biking. He has changed a lot. He wasn't always like this." The geokinetic remarked. "Living for a thousand years clearly can affect someone."

"Clearly." Jennifer retorted. "I wonder what happened? A LOT can happen in a thousand years."

"Who knows. It's not like he will tell us."

"Which really sucks. I would like to at least know if I had any relatives left."

"I doubt any of your family is immortal." Amara sneered.

"I have five siblings." Jennifer explained. "It's possible I may have some long-lost great-God-knows-how-many-grand nieces or nephews running around." She then smiled at Amara. "Besides, aren't you the least bit curious about your home and family?"

"You have no right to mention Roma Nova. Or my family." Amara growled.

"Oh come on, Princess." Jennifer snickered. "I'm not one of the bad guys. Heck, I technically never really was, remember?" Amara scowled.

"I still don't like the idea of some who was associated with the Hellfire Club mentioning my home."

"Don't get so snooty, Princess." Jennifer snickered. "For all you know, you could be descended from a member of the Hellfire Club yourself." Amara's face crinkled.

"Gods, I hope not. You are not funny." The geokinetic grumbled. "Although I will admit, I do miss my home and family. I know it is likely my family and old friends back in Nova Roma are long dead, but I do wonder if Nova Roma still exists. I wonder how much it has changed in the last thousand years...if it has."

"Hey, maybe we'll find out one day." Jennifer grinned. Amara groaned and rubbed her temples.

"This city is so beautiful." Marie noted.

"Yeah, it's awesome." Doug agreed, craning his neck to look out the window. "Although I wonder why the mutants left Earth?"

"I have the feeling it was not for a good reason." The blond translator sighed.

"Out of possible tragedy did come this triumph." Marie tries to be optimistic. "Our kind thrived here for a thousand years."

"They have, yeah." Doug nodded. "I wonder...what is the society here like? Did they take holidays with them from Earth, or have they ditched them and made their own, for example?"

"I'm sure they may celebrate Christmas here." Marie smiled. "I love Christmas." The ship landed on a helipad-esque area just outside the mansion. The Royal Guard, and Rancor herself, were assembled outside it.

"I wonder why Captain Marvel has come to visit us." Rancor blinked in curiosity. She looked over at Mindscan. "He didn't tell you why?" Mindscan shook her head.

"No. He did not, majesty. I would've pried further into his head, but his mental shields are too strong for me. I apologize."

"It's alright." Rancor nodded. "Violating people's mental privacy always causes problems and is never a good idea." She then glanced at Oracle, who was holding her book, and bouncing up and down eagerly. "Did you have sugar again, Oracle?"

"No, majesty." Oracle shook her head. "I'm just excited! I love it when guests come to the castle."

"Of course." Rancor chuckled. She looked over at Blaster and Batwing. "He did say he brought some guests?"

"We're as curious as you are, cousin." Batwing confirmed.

"Indeed. And by the way, congratulations on you two actually being able to work together without argument." The two mutants looked at each other.

"She didn't know about us fighting about-" Blaster whispered.

"Let's keep it that way." Batwing whispered back harshly. Sam emerged from the ship.

"Rancor." Sam smiled and bowed respectfully to her.

"Sam, my old friend." Rancor smiled and shook his hand. "Welcome to Haven. It's been too long since you graced us with your presence."

"I have been meaning to visit, but business on Earth." Sam explained.

"You said you had some guests with you."

"Yeah, I do." Sam smiled. "Jo, bring them out." Jocasta emerged from the ship, the New Mutants and Hellions right behind her. "Say hello to the Lost Mutants." The Royal Guard murmured amongst themselves in shock. Rancor's jaw hit the ground and her eye bugged out.

"The prophecy..." Batwing mumbled.

"Oh, no." Blaster sighed. "If they've come, we're in trouble." Oracle squealed and jumped up and down even harder.

"It's them! They're here! The Lost Mutants are here!"

"You gotta be kidding me." Rancor gaped in disbelief.

Well, well, well! Looks like the Lost Mutants have come to Haven! What insanity will happen next? How will the Lost Mutants take to Haven? Will they learn anything about their friends' fates? Find out in the next chapter!
