Hey everyone, I know I've been away for a while but it's been a struggle writing. I just want to give a shout out to Ladysunshine6 and wickedgames1 for the lovely messages they've sent me! I hope you all enjoy the next chapter.
When I left Dean I honestly didn't feel better, I felt a hundred times worse. My heart felt like it had been ripped out all over again; that I was right back in the motel room handing him the wedding ring back. The pain in my heart didn't seem any less but brutal. I just didn't understand how it was meant to get any better. I had hoped that talking to Dean, clearing the air about it all would somehow make it easier. It would somehow make the pain in my heart better. I was wrong. The pain had stayed the same no matter what. It was a constant hurt that I worried would never leave me. His answers just left me feeling more hurt and confused, they didn't give me the closure I was praying for. They didn't close this massive abyss in my heart.
Months passed and like everything, life went on. I hunted, I researched Dick Roman, and I kept busy; but the pain was still there. It was always just under the surface, just biding its time before it burst through and destroy everything. It was an ache that never seemed to fade, and if I did find myself thinking about him it flared up into a raw burning dart straight into my heart. Heartbreak sucked big time.
I sat in a bar at the end of a long hoodoo case. I had taken out the priestess who had bewitched a group of teenager boys to do her bidding. She was getting them to kill people in town who didn't want to date her as a teenager. All just because she could. All because she felt rejected. I enjoyed making sure she never bewitched anyone ever again.
"Ding dong, the wicked witch is dead..." I muttered to myself as I took a sip of my JD and Coke. I ran a hand through my hair and paused when my eyes caught the bite mark scars on my left arm. Six deep pink marks that refused to fade, they were the only indication of my fight with the Leviathan months ago. I never thought I would be able to walk away from a fist fight with a Leviathan. But some how I did, and these raw scars were the only reminder. I ran my finger over the scars as I thought back to how close I really was to dying. The fear in Dean's eyes flashed into my mind, the fear he had over loosing me. I let out a small gasp as I rubbed my chest, the pain darting straight into my broken heart. I shook my head taking a sip of my drink, the bitter warmth pulling my mind away from him. I bit my lip remembering the good that had come from it, finding Cass and fixing Sam. I frowned as I looked at the bite marks again If it wasn't for Cass I would have bled to death... and we just left him with Meg of all creatures in creation. She better keep her damn eye on him or so help me-
"Things keep getting a little hairy out here on your lonesome." Crowley's voice rang out from the side of me. I let out a heavy sigh and turned to face him; he sat with a glass of whiskey in front of him as if he had been there all night. A rage flared within me, I wanted to kill him for many reasons, my biggest at the moment was leading me into a case where I was this close to doing a crossroads deal. I balled a hand into a fist as Crowley simply raised an eyebrow looking around at the rest of the people in the bar. Get it together, you attack him here and these could be demons. Or innocent people who could get hurt.
"Bite me." I hissed, glancing over the rest of the bar for any other demons hiding near by. Nope just Crowley... thank God. But damn it, I can't make a scene with so many people around us.
"Looks like someone already did, Leviathan?" Crowley asked with that smug smile he always had on his stupid face. He took a quick sip of his drink as our eyes locked. How much does he really know? Cass? Meg? Sam and the wall?
"Pray tell, what do I owe this unwanted visit?" I asked sitting back on the stool, pulling my left arm over my chest and away from view.
"Aww Megan, I thought we were really getting somewhere with this friendship." Crowley smirked as I just shook my head and let out a bitter laugh.
"Seriously, you've got the grand total of two minutes to tell me why the hell you've shown up here or this little pig stick I got in my boot is going to find a new home in your stomach." I threatened leaning close so that only he could hear me speaking. Crowley let out a small chuckle as he sat back and studied me, his eyes working from my legs and finally locking on my eyes again. Crowley was studying something in my eyes, something I knew I saw every time I saw my reflection in the mirror. He was the heartache that hid just under the surface.
"I see Squirrel is still doing a number on you." Crowley chuckled taking another sip of his drink. "I really must remember to congratulate him on his utter stupidity."
"Crowley." I growled his name as I let my arm drop, ready to grab my knife at a moments notice. "Don't play games with me, and don't think that I haven't forgotten what happened the last time we met up." I growled glaring at him with so much venom. I was really considering just stabbing Crowley and dealing with the consequences later. It really wouldn't be a loss to the world, and it sure as hell would have made me feel a lot better. Crowley smirked at my attitude before taking a long sip of his drink.
"I came here with information." He announced clearing his throat as I paused and looked him with a raised eye brow. Crowley just sat there waiting for me to bite. We sat looking at each other waiting for one of us to blink, and damn it, I blinked first. Don't think I didn't notice that smirk that crossed his face when he saw me cave.
"What? I have to say please now?" I barked as I rested my hands on the bar, showing him that I wasn't going to go for my knife- for now.
"Would it hurt?" Crowley asked watching as I took a long sip of my drink. I put my glass down and let out a small sigh. Things were never easy with Crowley.
"I'm perfectly fine without the information. You came to me, remember?" I asked turning to glance at him over my shoulder.
"But you want Dick." Crowley stated as I turned to face him fully. Dick Roman was one of the biggest baddest creatures I had ever gone up against, and hell I was willing to work with the Devil himself to get answers on how to kill the bastard.
"You gonna give me his head on a plate?" I asked curiously, the thought of killing Dick giving me the warm and fuzzies. Crowley shot me a quick smirk, which I return as I waited to hear what his information was.
"Not quiet. But I know you've been looking into his recent purchases..." Crowley explained clicking his right hand as a folder appeared in his left hand. "Thought this might help clear up some of the confusion." He added holding it out to me. I sat there for a moment, my eyes darting from the folder to Crowley and back again. Nothing came from this demon without a big catch.
"What? I'm expected to believe you're giving me this out of the kindness of your heart?" I scoffed as I reached out for the file. Crowley pulled it back out of reach as I let out a grunt.
"Don't be so innocent Megan." Crowley chuckled still holding it out of my reach.
"What do you want from me?" I asked leaning back in my stool, folding my arms over my chest.
"Nothing. Just yet." Crowley beamed as he held the folder out to me.
"Then when and what?" I asked refusing to take the damn folder until I knew what the rub was.
"Soon, and you'll see." He smirked before disappearing, the file in his hand dropping onto the side of the bar. I stared at the folder for a beat. There is bound to be a catch... there is always a catch...But what if this is useful information, information that finally leads to killing Dick and getting revenge for Bobby? I've got to take it... right? I sighed pulling it in front of me.
"This doesn't mean I'm agreeing to anything." I huffed as I flicked open the folder and let my eyes skirt over the information. "The hell...?" I asked aloud realising just what I had in front of me.
I knew there was one place I had to take this information. I knew I couldn't just call or e-mail it. I knew I had to go there in person. We all knew how good the Leviathans were at tracking a person, I just couldn't risk it.
"It's always the same... always go running back to them." I huffed as I drove down an empty back road. "Why do I let myself do this?" I asked my reflection in the rear view mirror. "Because I'm an idiot who clearly loves pain! I mean I've got to be right? I'm heading back to the one person who ripped my heart out and walked all over it! And why the hell not? I obviously can't seem to function without him in my life!" I let out a heavy groan as I gripped the wheel tight, the pain darting into my chest again. I cursed under my breath and turned up onto the dirt road. "I'm stupid. This is stupid. Crowley is stupid. I hate this! This is just... stupid, stupid, stupid Megan." I huffed as I saw the cabin appear in my sight. My heart ached a little every time I saw the place, memories of Bobby came flooding back. "But I'm doing this for Bobby..." I reminded myself as I pulled up outside the cabin and turned my engine off. Climbing out of my Camero I grabbed the files and made my way to the door. I saw a car parked outside and knew they had to be in. I felt so nervous knocking on the door as I remembered the last conversation I shared with Dean. The truth, you wanted and you got it... My heart pang with the same feeling of betrayal and hurt I had when I last talked to him. I've never been so hurt in my whole damn life, not like this. And where am I? Stood on the doorstep of the man who hurt me. I'm stood waiting to work with them again. I'm stood at the doorstep knowing its going to hurt like hell and I'm still here... just what the hell is wrong with me? Why can't I get away from this man? Why can't I just stay away from him? Am I insane? Because I'm pretty sure the definition of insanity is to doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.
"Megan?" I hadn't realised the door had been opened until I was looking into the emerald eyes of Dean. He was stood there with just a blank expression on his face. I sensed the confusion and awkwardness roll off him though as we both just stood there in silence looking at one another. I blinked, clearing my throat and praying everything I was thinking was internally and not external.
"Dean." I flashed him a quick nervous smile as he looked utterly confused.
"What- what are you doing here?" He asked stepping aside as I walked in. Sam gave me a quick wave as he talked to someone on his phone. I took a quick look around the cabin and saw the research covering all the walls. The boys had been looking into Dick as much as I had. A smirked crossed my lips knowing we had been all working on this. For Bobby... you do anything you can for family.
"I um, I got some Intel I thought you guys could use." I admitted turning back round to face Dean, waving the file Crowley gave me. Dean glanced at the folder in my hands and then back at me screwing his face up slightly.
"I didn't expect you to show up here though." Dean replied closing the door and walking over to me. "After everything." He added softly so only I could hear. The pain in my heart shot through me just thinking about what he meant. I tried my best to push the pain deep down inside of me. I shrugged my shoulders and gave him a small smile that was a little more forced than I'd like to admit.
"For Bobby." I muttered, lifting up the folder Crowley had given me. Dean nodded, his expression like stone as he thought about the old grump who made the ultimate sacrifice for us.
"Yeah, I hear you. All right. Well, thanks for looking. Yep. Bye." Sam hung up his call and turned the pair of us. "Hey Megan, um so, Nora didn't see any pattern to the dig sites either." He sighed sitting on the sofa.
"Yeah, 'cause they got nothing in common." Dean huffed as we walked over to Sam. Dean sat on the arm of the sofa as I sat in the middle of them and looked at the papers scattered on the table. "And I got nothing from local lore 50 miles in every direction of all of them. I mean, it's like they're just... old dirt. What's Dick looking for?" He asked out aloud as I picked up a few of the papers and looked them over.
"Dick's funding archaeological digs now?" I asked looking between the brothers. This was something new to me, nothing I had been looking into had pointed to these.
"Yeah, but we can't find any reason for them, I mean there is no pattern to them... no reason for them at all." Sam explained as I turned a photo on it's side.
"Huh." I thought about the locations, and in the back of my mind something screamed that I knew the answer.
"Huh? You look at the photos and we get a huh." Dean mocked me as he took the lid off the flask and took a long sip.
"Yeah..." I hummed out, trying to remember how I knew the sites. Suddenly the lights started to flicker around us, all three of us got to our feet pulling our guns. A figure appeared in the room. No it can't be... My heart stopped for a beat. "Bobby?!" I cried out, not believing my eyes as I saw Bobby just stood there. I was suddenly very aware the guys hadn't been as surprised as I was.
"Hey, hey, go easy, you idjits. Sorry for the jump scare." Bobby replied before throwing me a small smile. "Hey girl, it's good to see you again... well I mean it's good to be seen again." He explained with a warm smile on his lips.
"Don't Hey girl me!" I snapped putting my gun away and marching over to him. Bobby recoiled slightly as if I could actually hurt him. "You- you! You're here?! You're actually here?! I thought- I went through so much-! When you touched my arm I thought-! I got the spirit board out, I tried deep meditation, I sat out there crying, begging for you to-" I let out a small growl as I started to say too much. I let out a huff as I glared at Bobby, furious with him when something hit me. I slowly turned to the guys, and was met by guilty expressions. "You guys knew!" I cried out, pointing a finger at the pair accusingly. "You knew and didn't think this was something I might have wanted to know about?!" I snapped the anger rising in me by the second.
"We've been a little busy." Dean answered with as shrug, as I just shook my head at the pair.
"Clearly." I huffed sarcastically, before turning to face Bobby again. "You grumpy, old bastard! I thought I was going insane! I mean- I..." I ran a hand through my hair and let out a heavy sigh. He's a ghost. He didn't move on. He's a ghost Megan. A ghost. Shit. I ran a hand over my mouth as the realisation hit me. "I can't believe you're a ghost... I can't imagine- Bobby..." I shot him a sad smile knowing just what becoming a ghost must have meant. Suddenly all the anger was gone and guilt was in its place. Guilt for being the reason why Bobby was still hanging around.
"Come on girl, we've been through this, alright? I'm here to help. You idjits still need me." Bobby replied with a sad smile of his own. I just nodded sadly as I wrapped my arms around my body.
"So how does this work, huh? I leave the cap off and you just genie your way out?" Dean asked he walked over to be shoulder to shoulder with me. I took a step away from him and lent against the back of a chair. I don't think anyone noticed, but I didn't want to be too close to Dean. I couldn't be that close to him right now, it just hurt too damn much.
"I wish it were that easy. The thing-" Bobby just suddenly flickered and vanished in front of our eyes. Sam turned to Dean and they both let out an exaggerated sigh.
"He do that a lot?" I asked turning to the brothers for an answer, honestly I was more looking to Sam than Dean for an explanation.
"Now and then." Dean answered with a shrug as we looked around for Bobby.
"Bobby?" Sam called out as we continued to look for him. We looked around as he appeared the opposite side of the room towards the kitchen.
"Damn it. It's hard to stay focused. I'm still kind of worn out." Bobby sighed as he looked at all of us. For a ghost he did look pretty exhausted I had to admit.
"You've been pretty busy for a dead guy." Dean pointed out as I just looked, hoping someone would explain later to me.
"All right. Listen. I-I don't know how long before my next ghost nap, so let's just skip to the skinny– those numbers I gave you." Bobby asked rushing his words.
"The empty lot in Cheeseville?" Dean asked butting in and getting a frown from Bobby.
"Yeah, well, it ain't gonna be empty for long. I got a gander at Dick's big plan, right before he Lincolned me. They're breaking ground – what month is this?" Bobby asked looking at all three of us confused.
"Uh- uh, April." Sam answered as Bobby let out a frustrated sigh.
"Ground's broke. They're building as we're yammering. Check it out yourself. It's all right. I mean, you guys missed it because you've been kind of busy killing ghosts the past few days." Bobby explained as Sam opened his laptop and hit a couple of keys. "But Dick is about to get into the Soylent Green business. That site'll show you they're building a Bio Tech lab, right?" Bobby asked as Sam turned the laptop so that we could all see it. The laptop screen showed Geothrive's Standard plans for an efficient slaughterhouse. "Bio Tech my ass. That sucker is a state-of-the-art slaughterhouse. And we're the beef." Bobby explained looking at all of us seriously. I let out a small sigh- at least Crowley was telling the truth... for once.
"Yeah, I've got a file with some of Dick's internal e-mails, they back up what Bobby is saying. And just for kicks, it looks like that isn't going to be the only one built." I added, glancing at the file I had brought in and left on the table.
"Don't you think that's a little bold, even for Dick?" Dean asked shaking his head a little, I think he didn't want to believe it. I know I was hoping this was some kind of sick nightmare.
"I bet you no one will even notice 'cause first, he's gonna dumb us all down with Turducken-style munchies. Make us docile." Bobby explained as I remember how it made Dean. He couldn't care about a damn thing after he ate a couple of those burgers. He was so docile that I was worried we'd never get him back.
"Yeah, we haven't been to Biggerson's since that whole fiasco." Dean scoffed shaking his head as he remembered too.
"Biggerson's? He's bought a list of joints 10 pages long." Bobby explained as he looked at all three of us as if we were stupid.
"Ah." Dean sighed rubbing the bridge of his nose.
"Next, he's gonna cure us." Bobby explained as my ears perked up. The hospitals... the hospital staff... yeah... this one I know.
"Cure us of what?" Sam asked confused as he and Dean shared a look.
"Cancer, AIDS, HIV, genetic defects, you name it, they'll cure it." I answered as everyone looked at me surprised. "I, um... I've been looking into this too since I left." I answered the questioning looks before hugging myself a little.
"The girls right. All the biggie's. Let's just say they got an affinity for stem-cell research." Bobby added as I ran a ghost of a touch over the teeth marks on my arm. I noticed Bobby look over at my arm and frown a little. Before he could say anything I pulled my arm behind me out of view.
"The, uh, Leviathan real-estate mooks building that cancer centre." Dean clicked as he turned to Sam who let out a sigh and nodded in agreement.
"They're not hunting anymore. They're engineering the perfect herd. Now, we've gone up against plenty liked to eat a few folk in the woods. This ain't that. This is about knocking us off the top of the food chain. This is about them Levis living here forever, one-per-center style, while we march our dopey, fat asses down to the shiny new death camps at every corner." Bobby explained as we all took it in. It was the perfect plan, the perfect way to make sure you had a constant food supply that you never had to hunt again. The meat would literally walk right into the gas chambers for you. It was horrifying.
"So where do we go from here? How do we...I mean can we stop this? We kill a few monsters here and there... sure we took the Devil out but... this is so much more... efficient." I asked looking at the guys for help. Dean just ran a hand over his face as he turned to Bobby. I don't think that any of us really knew how we were going to stop this. It wasn't simply. It was way above anything I could imagine. Sam's laptop suddenly beeped as he glanced up at all of us nervous.
"It's an e-mail... from Frank." Sam sighed as he clicked open the e-mail.
"Frank's alive?" Dean asked as he went and sat down next to Sam. I moved round to the other side so that I could get a good look too.
"That jackass, always stealing my thunder." Bobby muttered shaking his head. I glanced up and gave Bobby a small smirk. It was good to see that even dead Bobby hadn't changed that much.
"Sam, Dean and Megan, if you're reading this, I'm dead... or worse. This e-mail was sent because some prince is trying to hack into my hard drive right this second. So unless it's you, you got trouble." Sam read the e-mail out aloud. We all shared a worried look as Sam continued to read. "Um, okay. My drive is full of compromising info. Your new aliases, hangouts, where you stored your car..." Sam read out as everyone glanced at Dean.
"Baby?" Dean cried out looking absolutely horrified that someone might find the Impala and do something terrible to it.
"Even though he encrypted the crap out of his drive, he says we should assume that someone can hack into it eventually. He did put a tracking device in it." Sam sighed as he hit a few keys and fallowed the link Frank gave that showed the locations of drive. "All right, let's see where Frank's drive is." He sighed as we all watched the tracker home in on the location. I let out a small groan as it showed exactly where the drive was.
"Perfect. It's in the middle of the Death Star." Dean grunted with a sarcastic smile to Bobby as the tracker showed that the drive was in Roman Enterprises headquarters in Chicago. "All right, well, off to Chicago." Dean huffed as he got to his feet.
"No, wait, boys, you can't just break in. They know your mugs." Bobby pointed out looking at the pair. The guys shared a look as I spoke up.
"But, we don't really have a lot of options here Bobby." I pointed out as Dean slipped his jacket on.
"What if we mailed in the flask? Then I could ghost through the joint. I mean, it's not like Dick can kill me twice." Bobby suggested, as I glanced at the boys they seemed as reluctant as I was to go with Bobby's plan. "What, you got a better plan? Come on. Just because I'm dead doesn't mean I don't know how to do my damn job." Bobby bit out bitterly as he looked at all three of us. I turned to the boys as Sam turned to Dean. They shared a silent conversation where Sam ended up sighing.
"Bobby, that's Dick's office." Sam softly explained turning to Bobby, throwing him the puppy dog eyes he does so well. Bobby just looked at him clueless.
"Dick Roman is probably going to be there Bobby." I added throwing a sad smile, hoping he would get what we were trying to say.
"I think what Sam and Megan's trying to say is, what happens if you run into Dick and, you know... go vengeful. You know it's not something you can just shake off." Dean sighed out as he walked over to the pair of us.
"Come on. Give me some credit." Bobby scoffed as he looked at us. Everyone looked away from him, I just couldn't tell Bobby that I didn't trust him to hulk out around Dick. "What, I'm supposed to just ride the pine?" Bobby cried out as he looked so hurt by all three of us questioning his ability to keep his temper in check.
"Sorry, Bobby." Sam sighed as he shut his laptop and got up. I met Sam's puppy dog eyes as he walked away, fallowed by Dean.
"They're scared Bobby." I spoke softly as I could hear the boys start to pack their bags. Bobby turned to me, looking hurt and confused.
"I ain't that dumb girl, you know that right?" Bobby asked pleading with me to see the good in him.
"I know what it's like to have a rage constantly burning inside you Bobby." I spoke, keeping my voice low as I looked at the table where Sam had just been sitting. "I know how hard it is to keep in check when the one thing that-" My mind shot to Dean and the pain in my heart swelled. The rage bubbled under my skin. "When something hurts you this bad Bobby," I explained, looking up and meeting his gaze. "Even a Saint would lash out. You've seen how it turns good people into..." I couldn't call Bobby a monster, but I saw in his eyes, he knew what I was trying to say.
"But girl, I know. I've seen it from your side. But I'm a hunter. I have knowledge most don't." Bobby pleaded as he walked over to me.
"You're a ghost Bobby Singer." I replied as his flickered and disappeared right in front of my eyes. I let out a heavy sigh as I walked back to the couch and dropped down, picking up the photos from the archaeological dig sites. "I'm sorry Bobby..." I whispered out shaking my head a little.
I sat looking at the photos from the archaeological dig sites Dick had been investing in. There was something about them, something that niggled the back of my mind. I was lent forward resting my elbows on my knees, propping my head on my hands as I looked at the images. These are important sites... I know they are... they... they...damn it come on Megan. What do they represent? Think... think... think...
"Well that's never a good expression." Dean's voice made me jump as I turned and saw him walking over to the couch.
"Sorry, what?" I asked sitting up straight and looked for Sam. He was alone and I instantly felt on edge. Dean must have picked up on it as he frowned at me a little.
"That expression," Dean repeated waving a finger at me. "Means you're thinking about something a little too hard."
"I just..." I ran a hand through my hair and got to my feet. "A lot seems to have happened in the last few months. I think just seeing Bobby has made me all messed up again." I admitted wrapping my arms over my stomach.
"Look, I'm sorry that we didn't call you about him." Dean sighed as he walked closer to me. "We only found out a couple of days ago that he was really here. We had a case with this killer ghost and things just got crazy." He explained stopping in front of me. I nodded and moved the longest way round the coffee table so that I didn't have to walk past him.
"It's fine, just need a few minutes to adjust to it all." I saw that Dean noticed I was keeping my distance. I also felt the wave of hurt wash from him as he realised it.
"Megan-" Dean started to speak to me when Sam walked in with a couple of bags.
"So we're really going to Chicago and walking straight into Dick head office huh?" Sam asked dropping the bags on the couch.
"Yeah Sammy, looks like." Dean huffed as he turned to his baby brother.
"Well I think this officially tops the list of dumb things we've done." Sam replied with a sarcastic smile as he turned to me. "What do you think Megan?"
"I think, um we need to plan this, really plan this." I answered looking over to Sam but I could still feel Dean's eyes on me. I shifted my weight between my feet as Sam shot me a confused look, before glancing to his big brother.
"Am I, um, interrupting something?" Sam asked looking between us. I turned and was met by Dean's emerald green eyes locked on me. His expression was stone and he was trying his hardest to keep his emotions in check.
"I was just apologising to Megan for not telling her about Bobby." Dean answered, slowly looking over to his brother.
"I need to go check I have everything I need. I'll be outside if you guys need me." I answered practically running out of the cabin and to my Camero.
Once I got outside I clutched my chest. My heart felt like it was stabbed by silver. I stumbled over to my baby and lent against the drivers side door, gasping for air. Being around Dean was killing me slowly. I took a couple of deep breathes as I tried to dull the constant ache in my chest.
"You ok girl?" Bobby asked appearing near me. I shot my head up and nodded as he just frowned at me. "You know I ain't lost my marbles just yet." He added with a sad smile.
"I just need... a minute." I answered panting slightly as I could already start to feel the pain dulling.
"Look I know I ain't been seen, but I've been here a long time. I know what's happened between the pair of you." Bobby said sadly as I just lent against the cool metal. "I'm sorry sweetheart, sorry I raised an idjit of a boy."
"I don't think I can talk about it right now Bobby." I blurted out as I felt the tears sting the corners of my eyes. I felt like I was drowning in a sea of fear, anger, guilt and a million other emotions thanks to Dean dumb arse Winchester.
"I just hate seeing you so torn up like this." Bobby replied walking over to lean on the car next to me. "I can see just what it's doing to you. How badly you both are hurting."
"I really don't think I wanna hear this." I bit out shaking my head as I pushed off the car. How badly HE'S HURTING? He doesn't get to be hurt! He did this to me! Why does he get to feel hurt over it all?! Something snapped within me and that rage that was bubbling just under the surface burst through. "I am just so sick of how he has this hold over me! I'm stick of feeling like crap! I'm sick of this pain in my heart every time I'm around him! I'm sick of crying myself to sleep because I miss him so damn much! I'm so sick of this rage that I just can't control!" I growled as I walked out into the woods. I felt Bobby's presents fallow me. "I am sick it all Bobby and I honestly don't know how to make it better!" I cried out as I felt the tears roll off my cheeks.
"Oh girl." Bobby sighed as he grabbed hold of me and pulled me into an actual hug.
"I just... I want to be over him so badly Bobby, but I just... I can't get past him. Why can't I get past him?" I sobbed as I felt him rub small circles on my back.
"Things like Love are always complicated bastards girl, and I honestly can't tell you why he's effecting you like this. But I promise you, it will get better, it might take weeks, months, heck even years but one day you'll wake up and all this pain will be gone." Bobby hummed as he held me close to him. "He's an utter fool for loosing you." He added as I sobbed onto his shoulder. Having Bobby hold me like that, crying on his shoulder like his little girl helped me. For the first time in months the pain was nearly none existent, and the rage vanished. I cried into his shoulder for a good twenty minutes, just getting some of the tension out of my body.
"Thanks Bobby." I sighed, wiping the last of my tears off my face as I moved out of his hug.
"Girl, I will always be here for you." Bobby promised as he lent forward and gave me a small kiss on the forehead before flickering and vanishing on me. I couldn't help the little sarcastic chuckle that escaped my lips as I looked around for him.
"Yeah Bobby... always around." I smirked wiping my face one more time before running a hand through my hair and making myself look presentable again.
I got back to my car as the guys walked out of the cabin with bags. Dean caught my eye before quickly ducking into his car. I let out a small sigh as I tried to figure out how the hell I was going to work with him again. I mean saving Sam, that was all about family, when I started to think I should run Sam kept me there. But this was different, this was a case, this was breaking into Dick's office and stealing back Franks drive. Bobby.. you are doing this because it will lead to something we can use to take down Dick and get revenge for Bobby. I took a deep breath and settled on the reason I was going to put myself through hell again.
"You taking your car?" Sam asked as he walked over to me, there was something playing in his green eyes. I bet him and Dean have just had a lovely chat about working with me. Super.
"I thought so, just in case we need to split up later. You never know." I shrugged as I lent on the drivers side of my baby. "I take it you guys talked about me?" I asked looking up to the giant that is Sam Winchester. Sam let out a small sigh before turning to face me fully, his back to Dean.
"He wants to tell you to go home, he knows you're struggling being around him right now." Sam spoke softly as he looked into my eyes. "He doesn't know what to do for the best."
"He doesn't get a choice Sam." I said firmly, my eyes glancing to the car before looking back at Sam. "I... I need to be here ok, we might actually have a chance of taking out Dick Roman, or at least cripple some of his plans. I've always said I'd stick around long enough to take him out, and I mean it." I added looking into Sam's puppy dog eyes.
"Are you sure you're ready for this?" Sam asked softly, giving my arm a small rub.
"I'm doing this for Bobby. De- He's just another hunter. I'm mature enough to work with him... but don't ask me to go for a drink with the guy. Ok?" I asked bitterly as I looked up to him again. Sam frowned and suddenly pulled me into an unexpected hug. I felt the air rush out of my lungs as I wrapped my arms around the giant.
"I'm here if you need anything." Sam whispered before pulling out of the hug and smiling at me. "I'm really glad your here Megan." He added before walking back to the car Dean was in. I smirked, feeling happy to be around one Winchester at least. I took a deep breath and climbed into my car as Dean revved his engine and pulled out onto the dirt road.
We had been driving most of the night. I just fallowed the guys, my mind working on trying to figure out what the dig sites were all about. I knew that I had seen locations either them, or some very similar at some point in my life, but damn it all if I couldn't place it just yet. As I drove I kept glancing into the back window of Dean's car. I could see the pair talking, sometimes laughing over something. It was odd but there was something really comforting watching the pair looking like they used to. With everything that happened to Sam and his wall there were days where I wondered if things would ever go back the way they were. The way they were... the three of us? Me wrapped in Dean's arms again... that is just never going to happen again Megan... there is no way you can let the guy back into your heart, don't think you this is just a bump in the road. This is the end. The end of him and me. The end of those days where we'd sit talking about god knows what crap while driving cross country. Once we kill Dick Roman, once this is done you need to leave. Change your number, hell change country if you need to but you need space from him. Space from us.
"Space from us..." I echoed the words as I blew the air out of my cheeks. I knew this the right choice, to completely cut myself off the Winchesters but it didn't make it any less easier. "I can do this... I have to do is." I told my reflection in the rear view mirror. As I brought my eyes back to the road I saw Dean pull over to the side of the road. I pulled up behind them as the guys got out of their car. I put my baby into park and climbed out meeting the pair by the boot of their car. I noticed Sam had his laptop out and was typing away like a maniac.
"Everything ok?" I asked no one in particular as I reached them.
"We got another e-mail from Frank." Dean replied nodding to Sam's laptop.
"Well what does it say?" I asked moving close, I noticed Dean take a step back so there was extra room between me and him. I didn't react to his movement but I was sure glad about it. I looked at the screen as an image of a woman appeared in a browser window. She looked around my age, long ginger hair, green eyes and a determined look on her face. The image looked like it was taken from a web cam or something similar.
"Who is she?" I asked glancing to Sam who was still hitting keys.
"According to Frank, this is the person who is hacking into his drive. He planted a bug that hacks into the nearest camera to get a good shot of the persons face." Sam explained.
"Wow... so paranoid, yet so useful." I muttered as I caught the smirk Dean had on his face. I caught his eye as he smirked and quickly cleared my throat looking back to Sam. "So do we have a name yet?" I asked feeling a dart of pain in my heart.
"Sam's working on it, but he needs to borrow your laptop." Dean explained as Sam was engrossed typing away.
"Yeah, yeah sure. I'll just grab it." I nodded to Dean walking back to my car and leaning through the open window. I rummaged through my bag and pulled out my laptop. I straightened down my t-shirt and headed back to the guys. The whole time I felt Dean's eyes on me, watching my moves like a predator stalking it's pray. I did my best to ignore how badly I just wanted to meet his gaze, knowing if I did the pain in my heart would increase. I set my laptop up next to Sam and he gave me instructions to fallow as he searched for the mysterious red head on the photo.
We must have been working the best part of an hour to find out who this mysterious woman was, she seemed good at hiding her tracks. In this time Dean had decided he was bored; he went to lay out in the front of the car and have a nap. Both me and Sam moved into my car to keep warm.
"I'm starting to think this person is as paranoid as Frank, there is literally a handful of photos of this girl with a different name in each of them." Sam sighed in frustration.
"I honestly didn't think it would be this hard to find her..." I groaned as I watched my search continue to get no hits.
"Hang on! Hang on... here check this out!" Sam cried out turning his laptop so that I could see it. On his screen was another image of the ginger woman from the photos. The name Charlie Bradbury under it.
"I've seen that name a couple of times linked to our mystery girl. I think..." I hit a few keys and found a Chicago address for Charlie. "Yup we got an address. You wanna tell Dean?" I asked glancing up at Sam.
"I just want to check out a couple of things, can you go tell him?" Sam asked as he was so engrossed in the laptop that he didn't see the frown on my face.
"Yeah... sure." I groaned closing my laptop and throwing it onto the back seat. "I mean I would love to just talk to your brother alone." I added sarcastically.
"Thanks Megan." Sam murmured as he read the information on his screen, totally oblivious to the sarcasm in my voice. I huffed and got out of my car, slamming the door for good measure. Still Sam didn't pick up on anything. I walked over to Deans car and knocked loudly on the window. I heard him groan in the car before looking up and opening the car door. I stepped back as he climbed out and ran a hand over his face, his hair was a mess. The way it used to be when he had actually had a good sleep. I felt my heart flutter seeing him looking so sleepy and almost innocent looking.
"Everything ok?" He asked scrubbing the sleep out of his eyes. I nodded letting out a small sigh.
"Yeah, we think we've found the hackers home." I darted my eyes to the ground as I spoke to him, another dart of pain hitting me straight in the heart.
"That's great, when do we um set off?" Dean asked sounding like he forcing the conversation between us. I looked up and sure enough he looked as awkward as his voice had sounded. I let out a heavy sigh and shook my head. "What's wrong?" Dean asked confused.
"Me. You. This." I huffed pointing between the pair of us. "I just... I want to work the case."
"That's what we're doing here." Dean said deadpan as I groaned and turned to walk away from him. "I'm fallowing your lead here sweetheart." He called out after me as I turned to face him again.
"My lead?" I scoffed. "I have no idea how to... You know what? No. I'm not doing this. Sam's got the address. I'll see you there." I huffed walking back to my car as I heard Dean let out a heavy sigh of his own. I climbed back into my Camero and slammed the door shut. "Sam I'm about to drive, so either get comfy or get out." I grunted as I started the engine.
"What? What happened... oh." Sam realised as he looked up and saw the daggers Dean was throwing my way. "I'm sorry I just wanted to double check we had the right person." Sam threw me the puppy dog eyes as I just huffed.
"Sam..., just, not now with the eyes." I grunted turning back to my wheel.
"Sorry, see you in Chicago." Sam hummed as he gathered his things and climbed out of my car. As soon as he was far enough away from my Camero, I revved the engine and pulled back onto the road. Speeding away from Dean Freaking Winchester and all our complicated history.
We found the apartment of Charlie Bradbury and broke in. The place seemed as normal as you could expect I guess. I smirked as I looked at all the cool geeky things she had out like a replica sword 'Sting' sword from Lord Of The Rings.
"She really likes her nerd stuff..." Dean sighed as we looked around.
"This is what my uni room looked like." I pointed out as I took note of all the same books we had.
"Nerd." Dean muttered with a smirk as I turned to face him. The drive had calmed me down, and it looked like it had put Dean in slightly better mood which helped.
"Says the guy who quotes Star Wars, Indiana Jones and a thousand other movies." I teased with a small smile as Sam laughed a little.
"Do you think we can convince her to help us?" Sam asked looking between the pair of us. Dean was stood by some bobble heads, and tapped the Darth Vader one, sending it's head nodding like mad. I heard footsteps heading towards the door.
"We're going to find out, she's coming." I whispered as we all went and hid; and because I was closer to Dean he dragged me into the spare room with him. I frowned as he closed the door nearly shut. The pain pricked at my heart like tiny daggers. I held my breath and tried to focus on the door opening and Charlie rushing around packing up her bags. Anything but how close I was to Dean in that moment or how painful it felt being alone with him yet again. I listened as she rushed around and suddenly paused, seconds before her phone rang.
"Hey, Pete, sorry I left without telling you." Charlie was a terrible liar and as soon as she spoke I was hit with the smell of lies and fear. She'd seen something, I was almost certain of it. "No, I just wasn't... feeling well. It's a... lady thing. I will be in first thing. Got to go – cramps." Charlie bumbled through her lie and hung up the phone call. There was another paused and Dean tapped me on the shoulder. I turned as he nodded to the door, we saw Charlie rush past and open the flat door. Dean rushed past me, slamming his hand on the door, forcing it to shut. I gasped as the pain suddenly stopped. Gasping in relief I watched as Charlie turned to look at Dean utterly terrified.
"It's all right. I'm not gonna hurt you." Dean barked out as I saw the fear in her eyes.
"Get away from me, you..." Charlie panicked and picked up the replica of the 'Sting' sword. "You shape-shifter!" She cried out waving it in front of her.
"We're friendly, I promise." I called out walking over to her with my hands up, trying to show her how we meant her no harm.
"I bet that's just what shape-shifters would say!" She cried out, keeping her eyes on both me and Dean.
"Look, we're not shape-shifters." Sam called out appearing behind her. Charlie jumped, instantly lashing out at Sam with the sword. Unfortunately the sword snapped as soon as she hit Sam's arm.
"Jeez!" Sam cried out cowering slight from the hit. Dean rolled his eyes taking the broken sword out of Charlies hands and throwing it to the floor. The fear rolling off Charlie was immense, I think she truly thought we were here to kill her.
"Look, we're not Leviathans, okay? You want us to prove it? You know what borax does to them?" Dean asked looking Charlie dead in the eyes.
"Yeah." Charlie nodded nervously. Her eyes darted round to all three of us.
"Sam?" Dean asked as Sam held his hand out and Dean poured the borax over it. "Megan." Dean asked me to do the same, and again he poured the milky white liquid over my hand. Dean poured it over his hand finally and showed Charlie. "Huh? Your turn." He barked passing Charlie the borax. We all watched as she splashed some over her hand and nothing happened. I sensed some of her fear die away as she realised we weren't shape-shifters anyway. "Good." Dean huffed taking the borax back off her.
"Who the hell are you guys?" Charlie asked looking at all three of us as if we were crazy.
We gave Charlie the whole supernatural talk, with Sam throwing in as many puppy dog eyes as he could muster. I had to admit once we explained ourselves Charlie did seem to calm down a little. Dean sat on the arm of Charlies sofa, and Sam sat in a chair facing her as I stood by the side of Sam, watching Charlie pace around her living room.
"So you're saying, you guys are monster hunters. So, there are other monsters?" Charlie asked looking at all of us. Dean's eyes darted to me before opening his mouth to speak. Before he could answer Charlie cut him off. "Stop. Never mind. Just shush. Okay, I get how you tracked the drive – straight GPS – but it's still at the office. How did you find me?" Charlie asked putting her hands on her hips as she paused and looked at all three of us.
"We had a little help." I answered as Sam cleared his throat and opened his laptop. He turned the screen so that Charlie could see the footage of herself from her web cam.
"Aww! Son of a gun jacked my webcam?!" Charlie cried out, annoyed more than anything.
"Welcome to Frank." Dean replied sarcastically as she glanced at him.
"It's creepy, but I'll give it to him." Charlie shrugged as she looked at us. "So you're telling me everything he had on his drive is true." Charlie asked looking terrified but handling it a lot better than most people would have.
"That and more." Dean sighed out clasping his hands together in front of him. I felt the levels of fear rise in Charlie again.
"But you generally wouldn't run into anything like that." I pointed out as she turned to me. "I mean, you just kinda crapped out, landing in all this." I added trying to keep her calm.
"Oh awesome, typical." She muttered before throwing me a sad smile.
"Wait. How long did it take you to crack into Frank's drive?" Sam asked, I think he could pick up on the way she was starting to get a little too overwhelmed by it all.
"A day or so." Charlie shrugged as if it was nothing.
"Is there anything you can't hack into?" Sam asked and I glanced at him. He was planning something, but I wasn't sure what.
"Not yet." Charlie smirked at all of us, utterly proud with herself. Sam glanced to me then Dean surprised.
"How about Dick Roman's e-mail?" Sam asked in a challenging tone.
"Why would I..." Charlie as it clicked in her mind. "Oh. He's one of them." She stated looking at me disheartened.
"He's actually their leader, think Sauron and we're the Hobbits." I pointed out as she nodded completely understanding.
"So what's the end game – steal our resources, make us some slaves?" Charlie asked looking at all of us a little lost.
"Planet-wide value meal. We're the meat." Dean explained in his usual sarcastic way, adding his own little sarcastic smile at the end. Charlie smirked and let out a small chuckle.
"You can't be... serious." She asked quickly loosing her smile when she saw our reactions. None of us were smiling about it. "Okay. All right. Let's do this. What am I looking for?" Charlie asked as she sat down at her table and opened up her laptop.
"Well, for starters, uh, anything about archaeological dig sites." Dean asked as she started typing away at things. Charlie paused and looked up at us.
"Like Indiana Jones stuff?" She asked slightly confused and I couldn't help but smirk a little.
"All we know is that Dick has been digging all over the world, and we need to know what he's looking for." Dean explained and then glanced at me and Sam. He had an expression that was saying he really hoped this girl was as good as she thought she was.
"You know, I was having a really good week. I met someone, downloaded the new Robyn album. Everything was coming up me... Oh, crap." Charlie muttered as she looked at her screen.
"Look, we get it sucks." Sam was ready with his whole speech about how the world isn't fair, but if you can make a difference you should at least try. I had heard this speech used on a couple of people in my time and it usually worked.
"No, not that. This. Dick's e-mail isn't on the company server. It's on a private one, in his office." Charlie sighed as she looked up at all of us.
"Well that's just peachy." I muttered looking at Sam who sighed nodding in a agreement.
"Meaning? You know for the normal guy in the room." Dean huffed as we all turned to him.
"Meaning you can't get in it unless you have his phone or you're at his desk." Charlie explained to Dean.
"So you're saying that if we're inside Dick's office, then we can hack into his e-mail?" Dean asked working it out so that he understood it.
"You can't. Only someone like..." Charlie started to say with a grin which she quickly lost once she realised what she was saying. I felt the panic and fear rise in her again. "But I sure as hell ain't doing it. I am doing my job and..." She let her sentence die off as she looked at all three of us like a lost lamb. "What are the chances I see everything on that drive and Dick lets me live anyway?" She asked in a scared and lost tone of voice.
"I think you know." Sam answered softly.
"So I erase the drive first, protect me and you. Then I go back to my old life, right?" Charlie asked so hopefully. When none of us answered her she turned to Dean. "What?" She asked worried.
"It's not that easy. You're on Dick's radar, which means you don't have an old life anymore." Dean explained softly, trying to cushion the blow as softly as he could.
"I'm gonna die." Charlie whispered out looking out into space. "I should have taken that job at Google."
"Look, Charlie, it's okay if you can't do it. I mean, you didn't volunteer for this." Sam sighed as he stood up with his laptop.
"Totally. Exactly." Charlie cried out waving her hand out to Sam. She paused looking at all three of us, when she looked at me I shot her a small smile. "But now I volunteer." She explained looking straight at me, my smile widening as she smiled back at me.
"What?!" Sam cried out surprised.
"I got to go back in anyways to wipe Frank's drive. Might as well break into Dick's office, too." Charlie explained as I caught Dean's eye and saw the impressed look on his face.
"This is dangerous, you could die." I pointed out making sure she really understood the stakes.
"Gotta die one day, right?" She asked flashing me a confident smile.
"Are you sure?" Sam asked as Charlie turned to him.
"No. But these things are gonna eat everyone I know. What kind of douche bag stands by for that? However, I have never broken into anything in real life before, so... plan?" She asked looking at all three of us for guidance.
"You got a Bluetooth?" Dean asked as we all moved to sit around the table with Charlie. Sam set up his own laptop.
"Yeah." Charlie replied with a warm smile.
"Any chance you can get into the security systems, I know they're internalised." I asked with a small smile.
"How'd you know that?" She asked looking at me a little confused.
"Already tried hacking into them, but I couldn't access them." I shrugged plainly as Charlie nodded impressed herself.
"Nice. But I can reroute any surveillance cameras we need." Charlie explained giving me a wide smile and I swear I picked up on her checking me out. I smirked shaking my head as I looked down to the table.
"All right. Let's start with that." Dean spoke up as I looked up and he was smiling at how shy I was acting. As I caught his eye he cleared his throat and turned to Charlie, giving her his whole attention. As I turned away I could feel Bobby in the room watching over us. I lent into Sam.
"We're not alone." I whispered into Sam's ear as he looked around for Bobby.
"You sure?" He whispered back.
"Yeah. He's here." I replied softly, both Dean and Charlie were too busy to notice us whispering.
"Maybe he just wants to make sure we're doing ok." Sam shrugged as I shook my head.
"Everything ok?" Dean asked as he finally noticed our little whispering conversation.
"Yeah, yeah. So Charlie do you have a key card to get in the building?" Sam asked turning to Charlie. Dean darted a questioning look to me as I just shrugged plainly.
"Uh, yeah. I can't duplicate it, but I can make a fake backing, so that…" Charlie explained as she typed away.
We had a plan. We had a good plan, albeit resting on Charlie being about to crack into Dick Roman's private e-mails. But we had a plan. Charlie hadn't freaked out or started backing out, she was pretty confident that she could do it and I was really impressed with her.
"Ok so we're clear on how it's going down?" Dean asked looking at Charlie more than any of us.
"Yup, yes, completely." Charlie nodded firmly.
"Ok, look me and Sam need to pick up a few supplies so Megan's going to stay here with you, ok?" Dean asked looking from me to Charlie.
"Yeah, that's fine with me." Charlie nodded to me with a warm smile.
"Great, we wont be long." Sam said, as he headed to the door with Charlie. Dean walked over to me, and we moved out of ear shot of the pair.
"You think she can do this?" He asked softly, looking me dead in the eyes.
"She's scared, fearful of dying, but yeah... I actually think she can do this." I answered taking a glance at Charlie and Sam talking. As I turned back I was met by a frown from Dean. "What's wrong?" I sighed softly.
"I'm sorry I'm making things hard between us." Dean blurted out taking me by surprised.
"Excuse me?" I cried out a little louder than I had intended to. I knew both Sam and Charlie were listening to our conversation.
"I just...I know this is hard for you." Dean muttered before walking over to the others. "Come on Sammy let's go." He huffed before walking out the door, Sam quick on his heels. As the door shut I rubbed my forehead letting out a sigh.
"Hey, you ok?" Charlie asked worried as she walked over to me.
"I'm just... peachy." I muttered before I realising who I was speaking to. "I mean, I'm fine, this is the norm unfortunately." I added throwing her a sad smile.
"You two seem... awkward." Charlie explained with a chuckle making me smile.
"That's a good word for it." I sighed shaking my head a little.
"You seen each other naked or something I take it?" Charlie asked watching my expression.
"How about I explain it after we get you off Dicks radar?" I offered shooting her a quick smile.
"Ok, you're on." Charlie replied holding her hand out for me to shake.
It took the guys about an hour to get everything we needed, but by nightfall we were heading to Richard Roman Enterprises. I fallowed in my car and parked it out of the way down the street before jogging to the van and climbing in. Sam was sat looking at the laptop Charlie had lent us so we could monitor everything.
"I hope no one notices my car." I huffed taking a seat next to Sam.
"I'm sure they wont, you swapped the plates right?" Sam asked as I just nodded, and wiggled in my seat to get comfortable. Suddenly the door opened and Dean walked in.
"How's it going?" He asked closing the cage door and taking a seat the opposite side of Sam to me.
"Great, since she set all this up. Um, look." Sam explained as he hit a few keys on Charlies laptop, showing Dean all the security footage we have access to. "See this? I can put each camera on a pre-recorded loop. Once I do that, she'll have 15 minutes." Sam explained as Dean shot the pair of us a worried look.
"15 minutes ain't a lot of time." He pointed out, shaking his head a little.
"No. She said if it took longer to hack his desktop, then she deserved to be eaten." Sam explained with a little laugh as we watched Charlie pace up and down in front of one of the cameras.
"I like her." Dean smirked at the pair of us. It was easy to see that Charlie had rubbed off on all of us.
"She's tougher than she looks." I smirked nodding a little.
"Wait. Is that... Son of a bitch." Dean cried out as he watched the footage of Charlie walking up and down.
"What?" Sam asked as we both took a closer look at the footage, so soon as I looked, I saw it.
"Look at her bag." Dean huffed, shaking his head and folding his arms over his chest. Sam paused the footage and took a closer look. As he zoomed he brought an image of Dean's flask in the side pocket of Charlies bag.
"Bobby. I told you he was here." I hummed out as Dean grunted again.
"Wait. Y-you think he, uh-" Sam started to stammer through his words when Dean cut him off.
"Hitched a ride after we told him to cool his jets? Yeah. What the hell's he thinking?" Dean cried out throwing a hand out to the screen.
"He's not. So what do we do – call the whole thing off?" Sam asked nervously looking from me to Dean for an answer.
"We've only got one shot at this." Dean sighed running a hand over his face as we all watched Charlie.
"I used to think maybe you loved me…" Charlie was singing 'Walking on Sunshine' as she paced up and down. Dean picked up the phone and smirked at little.
"Charlie, it's Dean. Sam and Megan are here too." Dean explained as we watched her pace up and down. "Are you singing?" Dean asked surprised.
"I sing when I'm nervous. Don't judge me." Charlie almost snapped down the line as me and Sam turned to Dean; Dean who was grinning like he completely understood.
"Judgment-free zone. Listen, uh, check the side pocket in your bag." Dean asked as we watched Charlie look in her pocket.
"Oh. Thank you." She hummed as she picked up the flask and took a drink from it. "Mmm. Good idea." She added after screwing her face up a little.
"Yeah, no problem. Look, that's, uh, kind of a family heirloom. It's a good-luck charm, okay, so don't lose it." Dean asked as he glanced at the pair of us.
"Copy that. Okay. Let's do this." Charlie nodded firmly, but she didn't move. She just stood there.
"Uh, Charlie?" Dean asked looking at us worried.
"Hey Charlie, it's Megan, you doing ok Sweet?" I asked leaning over Sam to talk into the phone too. Charlie still wasn't moving.
"I'm having a hard time moving." Charlie explained nervously.
"You can do this." Dean offered encouragingly but dropped his head. We all knew this hinged on Charlie doing all the leg work. It was a risk sending in someone who really wasn't equipped for fighting the supernatural.
"Uh, I'm not – I'm not a spy. No, I can't do it. I can't do it. I can't do it. I can't." Charlie started to rant as she paced up and down nervously. I saw Dean shaking his head and roll his eyes as Sam snatched the phone out his hands.
"Charlie, hey, it's Sam." Sam spoke in a soft tone.
"I'm sorry, Sam. I'm sorry. I-I just-" Charlie ranted over Sam's voice.
"It's okay. Uh, listen, who's your favourite Harry Potter character?" Sam asked thinking on the spot.
"Uh, Hermione." Charlie answered as if it was an obvious answer.
"Hermione. Well, uh, all right, did Hermione run when Sirius Black was in trouble or when Voldemort attacked Hogwarts?" Sam asked as Dean just looked at him utterly unconvinced that it would work.
"Seriously?" Dean mocked.
"Shut up." Sam huffed covering the mouth piece so that Charlie couldn't hear.
"No, of course not." Charlie explained as she stood still.
"What did she do?" Sam asked firmly.
"She kicked ass. She actually saves Harry in practically every book. And then she ends up with the wrong-" Charlie started to rant about Harry Potter.
"Uh, stay on track. Okay, so she kicked ass, right? So, then, what are you gonna do?" Sam asked with a small smirk as we saw Charlie stand up straight, take a deep breath and look ready to do it.
"I'm gonna kick it in the ass." Charlie answered confidently.
"Damn right you are." Sam smirked passing the phone back to Dean as we watched Charlie head towards the front doors.
"Oh, you go, dumble-dork." Dean smirked as he sat back in his seat.
We watched as Charlie entered the building and swipe her card to get to the lift. We watched her walk in and click the button for the forth floor. She looked on edge but a lot calmer than she had been just before walking through the doors. We watched as Charlie got off on the forth floor. Sam quickly hit a few keys, setting the tape on a loop.
"You're golden Charlie." Dean hummed as we watched Charlie get back in the lift, changing the magnetic strip on her card and swiping the lift to go to the top floor.
"I'm in. I've always wanted to say that." Charlie beamed to the camera in the lift. I couldn't help but smile at how enthusiastic she was about it all.
"You're on the clock. Move." Dean reminded her, keeping her calm as she got off on the top floor and walked down the corridor. We watched as Charlie flattened herself against a wall and gasped softly.
"Hey, there's a big-ass guard up here, blocking the door. What do I do?" Charlie asked panicking slightly.
"Just wait him out." Dean answered as Charlie popped her head round the corner and groaned loudly. We could see on the camera that the guard had sat down and started reading a magazine.
"He's not going anywhere." Charlie groaned as she lent her back against the wall. Dean darted his eyes over to both me and Sam who were sharing worried looks.
"Okay, uh, you work there every day. Do you know the guy?" Dean asked looking back at the camera.
"I guess. I mean, I've seen him. I've never talked to him." Charlie explained as she started to pace up and down a little.
"Okay, when you've seen him, does he look at you, or does he just kind of slide his eyes by?" Dean asked and I instantly knew where he was going with it. Charlie paused while she thought about it.
"Um... eye contact? I don't know. He always kind of smiles a bit. I don't really-" Charlie explained shaking her hands loose.
"Good. What you're gonna do is you're gonna walk right up to him, and you're gonna flirt your way past." Dean butted in with a confident smirk as he glanced to the pair of us.
"I can't. He's not my type." Charlie explained as she started to pace a little.
"You're gonna have to play through that." Dean offered uselessly.
"As in he's not a girl." Charlie huffed as she paced around in a small circle. Called it! I smirked a little knowing I had picked up on flirty vibes from her earlier.
"Oh, oh. Pretend he has boobs." Dean blurted as I just sat there and shook my head at him.
"Worse." Charlie cringed as she imagined it.
"Well, I don't know. Um... Do you have any tattoos? Give him a little sneak peek there. All tattoos are sexy." Dean suggested as he winked to me. Sam scoffed as I just pinched the bridge of my nose.
"Mine is Princess Leia in a slave bikini straddling a 20-sided die." Charlie explained as we all just looked at each other. "I was drunk. It was Comic-Con." Charlie shrugged trying to explain it all.
"We've all been there. Okay, I'm gonna walk you through this." Dean explained when I got up and snatched the phone out of his hands.
"He's not. Charlie it's Megan." I rolled my eyes as I heard Charlie sigh a little down the line. "Listen, I'm going to tell you what to say, but I need you to imagine your talking to someone you've got a crush on." I explained as the guys looked at me. Both were watching me closely.
"Ok, ok, yeah I can do that... sure. Does Scarlett Johansson count?" Charlie asked relaxing more by the second.
"I'm pretty sure she counts no matter what way you swing. I mean could you imagine walking back into your flat and she's there with a glass of wine in her hand for you?" I asked watching the smile grow on Charlies lips. "Now walk in there, and don't forget who's waiting for you at home." I smirked as we watched her confidently walk into the room with the security guard. We watched as she walked up to the security guard as he got to his feet. Through Charlies Bluetooth we could hear what he was saying.
"Can I help you, miss?" The guard asked as he stopped Charlie.
"Just greet him with that smile and tell him who you are." I whispered down the line.
"Hey..." Charlie bobbed to read the guards name tag and held up her I.D card. "Bill. Charlie from I.T." Charlie explained.
"Oh. Burning the midnight oil, huh?" Bill the guard asked, flashing a grin back.
"Ok, just copy me." I looked down to the desk as I spoke but I could feel both Winchesters watching me. "Just like you, I mean, when you're not at the gym! What? Do you work out with all your free time?!" I gushed and looked up to see both of the brothers surprised.
"Just like you – I mean, when you're not at the gym. What, do you work out with all your free time?" Charlie copied me word for word and I smirked to the screen.
"I try to get to the gym at least three days a week." Bill explained nodding a little. "Just trying to get back to my fighting weight, you know?"
"You know it really shows. You look amazing." I spoked, clearly overselling what I was saying, as Sam glanced to Dean.
"You know it really shows. You look amazing." Charlie copied me as I managed to find myself looking at Dean, our eyes locked together.
"I love a guy with strong arms... they just make you feel safe, you know?" I asked looking straight into Dean's eyes. There was an honesty to my voice I hadn't realised until I felt the pain start to build in my chest. I pushed past it as I saw the way Dean was looking at me, his whole face lit with with a warm smile. Neither of us were looking away anytime soon.
"I love a guy with strong arms, they just make you feel safe, you know?" Charlie copied playing with a bit of her hair to boot.
"I do like to be protective." Bill replied. "It's why I do this job." Looking into Dean's eyes my mind just froze. I looked at the guys with wide eyes, I covered my mouth piece and whispered for help. I was never a big flirter, I used more my animalistic side to do half the work because there was something about that side of me few people could really resist.
"Ask him out for a drink, be bold, men like bold women." Dean suggested nodding confidently to me. I nodded back and spoke into the phone.
"So do you ever do anything else with your free time, like take a girl out for a drink?" I asked smirking a little at the way Dean was watching me. He was looking at me the way he used to when we went out of dates.
"You do anything else with your free time, like take a girl out for a drink?" Charlie copied me, the smile still on her face. Sam started to snigger at the whole situation and I had to admit I probably would have been laughing too if we had let Dean do it.
"Stop laughing, Sammy." Dean hissed loud enough for Charlie to hear over the phone.
"Stop laughing, Sammy. Um...Y,you don't know that bar- Stop Laughing Sammy?" Charlie started to ramble as Sam stifled his laughter with his hand. Dean smacked his younger brother on the leg. "That place is bringing sexy back. Which is easy…"
"Stop talking, Charlie!" Both me and Dean yelled at the same time.
"… 'cause they kept the receipt. Stop talking, Charlie. Right. So, um, y,you were saying about going out, drinks?" Charlie asked flicking her hair round her finger.
"Um... Yeah, yeah. That'd be great." Bill answered much to the relief of everyone.
"Cool. Pencil that in. Hey, can I ask you a favour? The ladies' room downstairs is nasty. Can I use the exec wash room to powder my nose?" Charlie asked getting back on track.
"Yeah, yeah. Why not? Um, it's right down the hall. It's the first door on the right." Bill explained as we watched Charlie walk off down the hall in the direction Bill pointed out. She walked past the ladies room and out of sight of Bill, letting out a heavy sigh when she got away from him.
"I feel dirty." Charlie sighed as she headed to Dick's office.
"You and me both, sister." Dean huffed as I just shook my head, blowing the air out of my cheeks.
"The eagle is landing. Going radio-silent." Charlie explained as she walked into his office.
"Let us know when you're out." Dean sighed putting the phone on the side as we watched the screens.
"So, guess we just wait?" Sam asked looking from me to Dean.
"Yeah." Dean sighed out not sounding too happy about it all.
We sat there just watching the security footage for any signs of Charlie or any Leviathans walking around. Me and Dean were sat near each other as Sam sat the other end of the van filling jars with the borax solution in case we needed them.
"Hey you did a good job with the flirting... very convincing." Dean spoke softly so that Sam couldn't really hear him. I glanced over my shoulder to Dean and threw him a small smile.
"Thanks, generally it goes a lot smoother than that." I joked a little as I rubbed my eyes with my left arm.
"Those scars still haven't healed?" Dean asked as he saw the six pink bite marks on my arm. I frowned, lowering my arm and looking down at them too.
"Nope, not fully." I sighed out meeting his gaze as I looked up.
"You not worried about that?" He asked frowning at me a little.
"There's bigger things to worry about right now... like making sure Charlie gets out of this alive." I admitted as we turned and watched the camera more. We sat in silence for all of twenty minutes when Dean let out a heavy sigh.
"Well, this is awesome." He cried out sarcastically, loud enough for me and Sam to hear him. "You know what? New plan. From now on, we just stay in the van and send in the 90-pound girl." He added and I could see he was getting worried for Charlie.
"Dean, every chomper on earth knows our face. How many do you think are in that building? We wouldn't make it past the lobby." Sam explained as he pushed his chair back over to us.
"Yeah, I know. Doesn't mean I got to be happy about sending in freaking Veronica Mars." Dean scoffed out throwing a hand out towards the screen.
"She'll be fine..." I said letting my sentence die off as I glanced at Sam.
"... or we'll go in." Sam finished my sentence with a nod as we both looked at Dean.
"And get as far as we can. Damn right." Dean smirked liking the fact we had a back up plan now.
I was laid on the edge of the counter, my arms crossed my chin resting on them as I watched the screens. I was tapping my foot on the floor as I was starting to worry about Charlie. I really wanted her to make it out alive, she had really grown on me.
"This is taking too long." Dean sighed as he pinched the bridge of his nose, it seemed like I wasn't the only one worried about her.
"I'm sure she'll call soon." Sam offered as we sat in silence, all three of us watching the camera.
"Hey, guys." Charlies voice came from over the phone and I sat up as Dean grabbed the phone.
"Hey." Dean smirked to the pair of us. I watched as files started to appear on the screen directly in front of me.
"Sending you all the flagged dig files now." Charlie explained as the files appeared on the screen.
"Charlie, you are a genius!" Sam cried out as I read a couple of the subject lines.
"I know. It's a problem." Charlie joked and then went very quiet. "Damn it. Hey, Pete! Guess we're both on deadline, huh?" She asked and we heard another dude stood there.
"How's it going?" Pete asked as I hit a few keys and managed to get the office floor cameras up for where Charlie was.
"Good, good. I'll give you a full progress report in a few hours." Charlie explained looking a little nervous of the guy if I was honest.
"Great. Hit that deadline, right?" Pete said as he squeezed her arm. "Well, holler if you need anything." He added before walking away. We watched as Charlie let out a heavy sigh before collapsing back into her chair.
"Hey, guys, you still there?" Charlie asked as she continued to send us different files.
"We're here, what the hell was that?" I asked looking to the guys, who looked as concerned as I was.
"Oh, just my manager, the monster." Charlie replied sarcastically as she blew the air out of her cheeks.
"Leave." Dean barked down the phone as things were getting way to complicated too soon.
"I can't. I got to act normal. I told him I was working. Let's just finish this." Charlie huffed as she opened some more of Dick's e-mails dealing with a package leaving Iran and the suspension of the digs he had going. "Are you seeing this?" Charlie asked as I read the pages popping up.
"It looks like Dick stopped digging days ago." Sam explained reading the same things as me.
"Why?" Charlie asked confused.
"Guess he found what he was looking for. Can you check?" Dean asked as the screen was already popping up different emails and reports.
"Way ahead of you. Looking at travel reports, expenses... Here we go. Something in his suitcase left Iran last week. Spent the last 72 hours in armoured cars and private planes. Whatever it is, it's coming here for Dick tonight. So, what the hell is it?" Charlie asked as we saw what she pulling up.
"I don't know. Whatever it is, he wants it bad, which means we got to grab it, end of story." Dean explained giving me and Sam a hard look. We both nodded in agreement. Anything we could grab to have over Dick had to be a good thing for us.
"Well, it's landing at a private airport near here- crap -right about now. A courier's set to pick it up." Charlie explained as she shows us the courier notes.
"What's the exact landing time?" I asked plainly as I glanced to Sam.
"42 minutes. Can you make it?" Charlie asked as Sam looked up the route to the Downey Airport from Dick's head office. Dean looked at the distance and let out a sigh.
"We can try. Uh, all right, Charlie, one more favour, and then get the hell out of there." Dean asked looking at the pair of us.
"What do you need?" Charlie asked, ready to do pretty much anything to help us get to that package.
"More time." Dean simply said as Charlie started to type away.
"Then let's get you some." She replied with a smirk in her voice as she typed. "Travel department's e-mailing Dick. Suitcase still en route, but diverted by weather and will be 30 minutes late." She explained and paused. We saw she got up and looked around the office. "I'll finish mopping you guys off the drive and get the hell out of Dodge." She added as she sat back down.
"Megan's going to stay here and watch over you. Call us when you're clear." Dean said looking from the screen to me. I just nodded, knowing he was keeping be behind because he didn't think I had fully healed from the Leviathan attack.
"Text you from the border, bro." Charlie laughed as she started type away some more.
Sam gathered some things as I shuffled over to Dean to talk to him. Dean turned to me, and we were both surprised by how close I was to him. I had to admit it was the closest I had been to him in months. I didn't realise how close I was until he turned and our faces were practically right in front of each other. When I realised I moved back a little, but we were still very close to each other.
"You can keep a better eye on her. You have a better chance of grabbing her and getting her out than if me or Sam stayed." Dean spoke as I folded my arms over my chest.
"And this has nothing to do with the scar?" I asked knowing him so well as he darted his eyes away from me. "I knew it." I scoffed shaking my head.
"Here right now is the lesser of two evils. I'm just trying to keep you safe." Dean countered looking me dead in the eyes.
"It's not your job anymore Dean." I pointed out as I unfolded my arms. We paused just looking at each other, I saw the hurt flash through his eyes. "I'm, I'm sorry that was uncalled for." I whispered feeling a little guilty.
"No, no you're right. It's not my job to look out for you anymore." Dean sighed as he ran a hand over his face and looked utterly defeated by the whole situation.
"Look, take my car, it's the fastest you have at the moment." I said pulling the keys out of my pocket and tossing them to him. Dean caught them and smirked a little.
"Saying Baby is faster?" Dean asked smiling at me as he teased me.
"No," I paused hiding my smirk from him. "Just don't crash her, ok?" I asked sighing as Dean nodded.
"I won't. Call me when you get clear too." Dean asked as Sam walked over to us.
"Ready?" Sam asked looking over to the pair of us.
"Looky what I've got!" Dean beamed holding up my keys. Sam turned to me with his mouth wide open.
"Please don't let him crash it, or scratch it... please Sammy?" I begged Sam.
"I promise to keep an eye on him." Sam laughed looking down at me. "Be safe."
"You too, now get going or you really wont make it." I pointed out as the guys nodded and climbed out of the van. As the door closed I let out a heavy sigh and turned back to the camera. "They've gone, I'm still here if you need me Charlie." I explained talking to her down the phone.
"Cool, yeah it shouldn't take me much longer to delete everything here." Charlie replied as I sat in the back of the van watching Charlie finish deleting the last of the drive. I kept pulling out my phone and checking to see if the guys had managed to get the package in time.
"So are you going to tell me what's going on with you and Dean?" Charlie asked a I looked to the screen.
"I don't think you're out yet, are you?" I smirked as she glanced to the camera and rolled her eyes.
"Oh come on, we're practically there anyway. What's the skinny on you two? I sensed some seriously complicated vibes from the pair of you." Charlie explained as I watched her work.
"You wanna know, really?" I asked sighing as I sat back on the chair.
"Well yeah there is so much tension in the room I'm surprised Sam doesn't suffocate!" Charlie joked as I ran a hand over my face.
"Ok sure, why not we've got five minutes to kill, right?" I asked looking at the screen which showed exactly what she was doing.
"Yeah, so...?" Charlie asked smirking a little.
"Ok, so we were married. He cheated on me. We broke up. Wow I really thought it would take longer than that..." I hummed with a hint of sarcasm in my voice as Charlie shook her head.
"I don't buy it! There's more than that. The way you two are around each other... I'm telling you there is something else." Charlie replied shaking her head more. "And that ass cheated on you? Has he even seen you? I mean hello, you're hella hot!" I couldn't help the chuckle that escaped my lips as she said that. "Crap. I totally didn't mean to say that to your face."
"It's ok Charlie... um, thanks." I smirked shaking my head as I looked at through the e-mails Dick had received recently.
"Smooth Charlie." Charlie muttered as she finished the deletion. "Ok, and we're done."
"Great, I'll keep and eye on you until you're out. Make sure you're not being fallowed." I explained as she stretched and nodded.
"Then I give you the flask and be on my way back to the shire." Charlie smirked as she got up and pulled out the pen drive. I watched as Charlie turned and gasped as Dick Roman just appeared behind her desk.
"I'm here Charlie, just keep calm." I whispered into her ear piece as she just looked terrified.
"Hey, Charlie. I was hoping I'd find you here." Dick smirked as he looked at her, noticing the fear she had.
"Um, hey, Mr. Roman." Charlie gave him a small wave.
"Please. Dick." Dick smirked as Pete from before walked up to them. I held my breath, getting ready to rush in there if I needed to. "Pete, we're good here. Why don't you go grab a bite?" Dick suggested as Pete just turned and walked away. "Show me what you found." Dick motioned to the computer behind Charlie. She slowly turned and sat down as Dick lent over her shoulder watching everything she did. "So there's nothing about my company?" Dick asked as Charlie just shook her head. "Ah. How about a Sam or a Dean?" Dick asked as I pulled out my phone. I really didn't like where this was going.
"Just play dumb Charlie, it's ok. It's going to be ok." I whispered down the line to her.
"I'm sorry, who?" Charlie asked turning to look at Dick.
"Sam and Dean Winchester. Give it a little peek, would you?" Dick asked as Charlie started to search for their names. I hit dial and put the phone against my ear as I watched the pair talk about how cold the room was getting.
"You clear?" Dean asked as he picked up.
"No. Charlie is talking to Dick... and I'm pretty sure Bobby has joined them." I explained watching the pair talk awkwardly.
"What?! Is she ok?!" Dean cried out.
"So far, but man I've got a bad feeling about this. You might want to head back soon." I explained shaking my head.
"We've got the... thing. We'll head straight back. Hang tight and only go in if the package gets there before we do." Dean ordered as I watched Charlie turn back to Dick.
"Nothing about those Winchesters." She answered as I let out a heavy sigh.
"Just hurry." I hung up the phone and watched the pair carefully.
"If items were deleted from the drive, would you be able to tell?" Dick asked looking at Charlie.
"Not if they were deleted properly." She explained nervously.
"Well, they're crafty. Have all the data sent to me." Dick shrugged as he stood up straight.
"Of course." Charlie answered sending everything to his private e-mail.
"So, really, how did you do it?" Dick asked causing Charlie to pause her typing.
"Uh, do what?" She asked nervously.
"You broke the unbreakable. What's the thought process? Walk me through it, and ix-nay the jargon." Dick ordered as he glared down at Charlie.
"Um... nothings unbreakable, really. Nothings safe if you poke at it long enough." She explained turning to face him.
"Nothings safe. I like that. But that isn't what I'm asking, Charlie. Your spark – it's one in a million. Believe me, but when you got it, you invent guns and iPads and viruses, and, holy crap, you can be crafty. What is that, Charlie?" Dick asked starting to look pissed off with her.
"Um-" Charlie started to say when he cut her off.
"'Cause I can feed every fact in your brain to someone else, they still wouldn't be able to be you." Dick went on to explain.
"I guess you can't clone me." Charlie said nervously, with a nervous smile to match.
"Don't think that doesn't piss me off." He almost snapped before picking up his phone. "Yes. Fantastic. Bring it up to my office. I'll be right there." I realised he was talking about the package. I had just run out of time. "I think we're on to something here. Stay here, will you? I'll be back in two shakes." Dick said before walking off.
"Charlie you need to get out of there right now." I said firmly getting to my feet. "I'll meet you at the doors."
"You don't need to tell me twice." Charlie answered as she gathered all her things and raced out of the office.
I raced out of the van as I saw Charlie running down the stairs. I managed to get through the doors but as I got in I heard them lock behind me. The front desk security guard got to his feet as Charlie reached me.
"Are you hurt?" I asked quickly looking around for another exit. Charlie couldn't speak she just shook her head as we saw Dick Roman coming down in the lift, facing the pair of us. Suddenly the glass doors to the side of us cracked and I smirked, feeling Bobby close by. As the lift reached the ground floor I felt a burning sensation in my arm. I gasped grasping my arm in pain.
"What, what's wrong?" Charlie cried out at the side of me as I just shook my head. Pete walked out of the lift and charged over to the pair of us.
"Hold on there, Charlie." Pete grunted as he hurried towards us. Suddenly Pete went crashing into Charlie, knocking her into a pillar before she collapsed on the ground. I felt a rage around me and knew it had to be Bobby. The rage was raw and full of anguish, it was truly breath taking- and not in the good way. It stirred up my wolf side, making her uneasy, ready to leap forward at a moments notice. I was finding it hard to focus between my wolf, the rage coming from Bobby and the fire that was burning through my arm. I shook my head trying to stay focused on the important things like getting Charlie out alive.
"Charlie are you ok?" I asked bobbing down to her level as the burning sensation in my arm grew. Charlie let out a weak moan as I got to my feet and saw Dick Roman crash into a cabinet. I rushed forward, towards the feeling of rage. I had to get Bobby away from Dick, he just threw Pete into Charlie, hurting her pretty badly. I really didn't know what he would do if it continued.
"Ho ho ho, is it my Christmas already?" Dick asked as I got closer to him and where I thought Bobby was. As I got closer I let out a yelp of pain. My left arm was on fire. My skin ripping apart on itself. The pain felt like hot pokers scorching through my flesh.
"Bobby! Stop! Please!" I cried out as I fell onto my knees, the pain taking over my senses. Dick Roman got to his feet and started to walk towards me. All that smugness thrown into his swagger.
"Oh Megan, did someone get bitten? I think they did." Dick teased smugly as the pain tripled. I let out a scream and ripped my sleeve up. I couldn't believe my eyes, the six teeth mark scars were ripped open and black goo was pouring out of them. Black goo of the Leviathans. I snapped my eyes to Dick as he smirked.
"What's... happening to me?!" I screamed out as the pain was as server as when I was first bitten. The agony of it all was threatening to push me over the edge and into the darkness; the only thing keeping me fighting was the fact that I knew I had to get Charlie out of there alive. I bowed my head pulling on my wolf, pulling on her strength to keep me conscious.
"We always leave a little bit behind in every bite." He explained as he still casually walked towards me. "Just in case we don't kill the first time." He smirked as suddenly he couldn't move any closer. "Huh, look at that." He lost his smirk and held is hand out to me. A new wave of pain rushed through my left arm. It felt like the goo was leaving me, but taking as much of my arm with it too.
"Stop! Pl, please just stop!" I screamed watching the black goo seep out of the scars, burning my skin as it touched it. I bowed my head as my vision blurred in and out of focus. I knew even with my wolf side I was loosing the fight to keep awake. Suddenly the glass doors shattered behind us. I didn't need to turn around to know it was Sam and Dean, the scents hitting me as soon as the glass broke.
"Dean, he's one of them!" Charlie cried out, and I guess she was pointing to Pete. The next moment I heard sizzling and screaming coming from where Pete was.
"Megan?!" Dean cried out as he raced up to my side. As he came round me he saw the black goo seeping out of the scars. I met his terrified look with one of my own. I had no idea what was happening to me, I just knew it hurt like hell.
"That would explain it. You're hanging with the wrong crowd, kiddo." Dick laughed as he flexed his fingers and the black goo started to run out of me faster still, and head back towards Dick all by itself. The pain was unbelievable as I screamed out again, Dean looked utterly lost as he looked from me, to the goo and to Roman. I started to cough up blood as my insides felt on fire. My whole insides were screaming as it felt like Dick was pulling the goo from ever cell in my body. I gasped as I looked up to Dean, my eyes pleading with him to save me.
"Not so fast, Dick." I swear I heard Bobby speak as Dick went flying through the air into a large display picture, crashing into it and falling to the floor.
"We gotta go, we gotta go now!" Dean cried out as he scooped me up in his arms, all the black goo gone from my arm as they just ran red with my blood instead. I pressed my head into Dean's shoulder and let out a small moan of pain. "Come on baby, it's ok, I've got you now." He ushered me as I groaned in pain. "We need to get you out of here. Just hold on baby, please." Dean begged as he started to back away from Dick. He refused to take his eyes of the dangerous son of a bitch and I couldn't blame him. Dean paused as the image of Bobby flickered in front of us and either him or Dick let out a deep growl.
"All right, enough! Show yourself. Let's do this like real monsters." Dick cried out as he tried to get back up but was shoved back down hard. "Ha, ha, ha! You got to do that again. That tickled." Dick teased watching me and Dean.
"Dean, come on. Come on!" Sam cried out as both him and Dean carried me and Charlie out of the building. As we got to the door I saw Dick stand back up, my blood ran cold.
Dean carefully put me on the back seat of my car next to Charlie. She looked really pale, and I was pretty sure she broke her arm. I wasn't doing much better, I had one of Dean's shirts wrapped around my arm to slow the bleeding. I lent my head back against the rest and closed my eyes as the pain slowly started to die down.
"Girls, talk to us. You okay?" Dean asked as I felt his eyes on me. I opened my eyes but didn't have the energy to move. My whole body was recovering from the fire that was just burning through it. I wasn't sure what Dick had just done to me, but the pain... it was unlike anything I had ever felt before.
"No. Why didn't you kill him?" Charlie cried out almost whining in pain. I forced myself to look over to Charlie. She was cradling her arm close to her chest and I swear I saw a bone sticking out.
"'Cause we can't yet. But we will." Sam promised as he took a glance at us in the rear view mirror.
"The really evil ones always need a special sword." Charlie pouted before sighing loudly. "Oh, okay. I'm gonna pass out now." Charlie announced as she slouched sideways and actually passed out. I watched Dean check on her before his eyes darted to me. I saw the worry and fear as I just looked into his eyes.
"She... has a... broken arm." I managed to mumble just loud enough for the guys to hear. I gasped as a dart of pain ran from my bite marks up into my chest. I screwed my face up and I could feel Dean watching me in the mirror again.
"You don't look so hot, any more black goo?" Dean asked trying to keep his voice as even as possible. I couldn't speak, I just managed to shake my head.
"Black goo? You mean like-" Sam started to ask, turning in his seat to look at me.
"Leviathan. Yes, but now's not the time Sammy." Dean huffed as his eyes darted from the road, to his brother and to me in the rear view mirror.
"I'm loosing a lot... of blood." I mumbled again as I closed my eyes, exhaustion pulling me closer and closer into the darkness.
"Megan? Megan! You need to stay awake ok?!" Sam snapped as I felt his hand shake my leg violently.
"Don't want to... sleepy... so tired..." I mumbled into my chest as my head lulled down and the darkness finally took over my whole body, pulling me away from the pain of the real world.
I woke up in a crappy looking motel, my head aching a little and my whole body was stiff. But I was definitely alive, and my arm only ached. I groaned as I sat up.
"Morning sunshine." Dean laughed from across the room as I ran a hand through my hair.
"Urg, I feel like crap." I grunted, scrubbing my face and looking around the room. I quickly realised that there was only me and Dean in the motel room. "Where's, um Charlie and Sam?" I asked clearing my throat. I felt the dull ache in my chest start again from being around Dean.
"Sam took Charlie to the hospital, I said I'd stay with you." Dean answered from the small dining table he was sat at. "You were, um whimpering in your sleep and I,we, we were worried." Dean muttered looking to the table and away from my eyes.
"Must have had a bad dream." I sighed looking away from Dean, my eyes landing on on the thick white bandage wrapped around my left forearm.
"You stopped bleeding an hour ago, as far as I can tell." Dean explained as I snapped my head up and met his gaze again. He as guarding his emotions, trying his best to keep me from getting a real read on him.
"Good. That's, really good." I muttered glancing back down at my arm. "I um, I think we should... I mean how do we know it's all gone?" I mumbled looking down at my arm and remembering all the black goo pouring out of me.
"You want to borax your arm?" Dean asked confused, again I snapped my head up.
"I, um, yes?" I answered making it sound more like a question.
"Its going to sting like a bitch." Dean warned as he frowned a little.
"Better than the alternative, right?" I asked biting my lip as I looked over to him. Dean paused, his arms crossed over his chest as he studied me for a beat. I tried to pick up on what he was feeling but I got nothing, no clue what so ever.
"Let's do this in the bathroom, it'll be the easiest to clean up." He huffed getting to his feet and walking over to one of his duffel bags. I nodded getting to my feet and shuffled my way into the bathroom. I stood over the sink and unwrapped the bandage. As the layers came off I saw how badly I had been bleeding. This is bad... this is a lot of blood... just... bad. I hissed as I took the final layer off and got a good look at my arm. There was blood all over my forearm, some of the bites had started to scab, but others were still weeping. I blew the air out of my cheeks as I lent against the wall.
"If you think that's bad, you should have seen what it was like when you passed out." Dean explained as he walked into the small bathroom.
"Did I ever tell you, your bed side manner stinks." I joked as my eyes darted back to my arm and the raw bite marks.
"A couple of times, but I come baring gifts." Dean laughed as I looked up and saw the borax in one hand, a large bottle of tequila in the other.
"Ok, I forgive you, for now." I teased as he passed me the tequila. I took a long drink of it, the fire burning in my stomach in the way only tequila can. "We should do this now, before I change my mind." I muttered passing the bottle back to Dean.
"You don't need to tell me twice honey." Dean hummed as he took a quick swig of tequila and set the bottle on the edge of the bath. "Hold your arm over the sink." He instructed as I moved. I watched as Dean unscrewed the lid to the borax and put that near the tequila too. "Are you su-"
"Just do it Winchester!" I cried out interrupting him mid sentence. Dean nodded, grabbing my arm, holding it over the sink with one hand and poured the borax over with the second.
"Oh you son of bitch!" I tried my best to keep my screams muted but the pain was red raw. The borax burnt into all my bite marks, but a couple stung with a fire of a thousand suns. I grabbed the bottle of tequila and took another long, long sip. The fire burning in my stomach started to dull my other senses. I knew I must have lost a lot of blood to be able to get drunk this easy. "Aayyyee... this stupid, son of a... piece of craptastic, motherfu-" I hissed as I watched the droplets of black goo fall from the weeping bite marks.
"I'm sorry, but it's working. I think I need to just put a little more on." Dean explained, throwing me his version of the puppy dog eyes. I glared at him, wanting to punch him straight in the nose but I knew deep down I had to get all the goo out of me.
"Damn it! I can't... it hurts so bad... I just... I can't Dean- stop!" I begged as I tried to pull my arm back but Dean held it in place. I huffed as I blinked back tears, trying my best to keep up the hard arse hunter front, but it was cracking by the second.
"I'm sorry sweetheart, I can't do that." Dean threw the last of the borax over my arm. I couldn't help the pained scream as the borax ripped through my skin, pulling the last of the black goo out. I felt the waves of discomfort and guilt wash from Dean as he realised just how painful the whole situation was to me. "Give me some of that." Dean huffed, snatching the bottle out of my hand and downing about the same amount as me.
"Why do you let me do stupid things like this?" I hissed as we watched the last drops of black goo swirl and go down the drain. The fire burning in my arm dulled to just an normal level I got from cuts.
"Like I've ever had an control over you." Dean scoffed his voice slightly slurred as I realised we were both getting drunk quickly. He turned the tap on and washed my arm in cool water, cleaning up the mess the borax had made of my skin.
"True." I shrugged, suddenly feeling very drunk. "Hey, what's in this... tequila?" I asked looking at the bottle.
"I got the good stuff, now hold still would ya?" Dean slurred, throwing me a smirk to boot.
"You know I missed that smirk." I slurred back taking us both by surprised.
"I miss you." Dean muttered drying my arm on a towel and examining the bite marks.
"I miss you too." I whispered out as he looked up and met my gaze.
"I love you, you know." Dean slurred as he threw me a loving smirk, his hand brushing some loose hair out of my face.
"I love you too." I replied bowing my head before looking straight into the eyes I had fallen for a lifetime ago. "But you hurt me." I quickly added pulling my arm back and looking at it too. "Hurt me real bad. Jerk." I muttered, my eyes locked on my arm.
"I know." Dean slurred moving around the bathroom, getting supplies to wrap my arm up again. From that moment we fell into an awkward silence. Dean bandaged my arm up, putting it into a sling for good measure. I laid back on the bed and rested as Dean fell asleep at the table. Neither of us saying another word to the other until Sam and Charlie returned.
Charlie did in fact have a broken arm; she went to the hospital to get it set and put in a sling. My arm was in a bandage and sling as large as Charlies cast, but it was healing. I was thankful for that if nothing else. I needed to heal. Not just from the bites, but from Dean. We've hit Dick hard, but we still don't know how to take him out. I just know I need to keep my distance from Dean and once this is all over... run. Get far, far away from him. Charlie said she wanted the bus, so we gave her a lift to the station. As we headed out to the bus some dude held the door open for all four of us.
"Thank you." Charlie smirked a little.
"Cheers." I added fallowing her threw.
"Thanks." Dean added fallowing me. We walked to the bus Charlie was catching, I knew it wouldn't be her final destination. She was going to have to do a far bit of travelling to make sure no one was fallowing her.
"I left your dumb flask on the back seat, by the way. Worst good-luck charm ever." Charlie teased as she stopped in front of the bus and looked at all three of us. Dean past Charlie her bag.
"Here you go." Dean smirked as she tossed it onto her shoulder.
"Thanks." She smirked back.
"So listen, um, we can't thank you enough." Sam beamed as we all watched Charlie. There was something about her. Some charm that seemed to fit perfectly into our weird little click.
"Actually, you can. Never contact me again, like, ever. Deal?" Charlie asked holding her hand out for Sam to shake.
"Deal." Sam replied shaking her good hand. Charlie then shook hands with Dean too. As she turned to me I held my hand out for her to shake too but instead she pulled me into a hug.
"You, you can definitely contact me again." She beamed as we hug, winking at me a little too.
"Awe shucks, you going to make me blush here Charlie." I joked as we pulled apart.
"Hey you ever change your mind about which side you're playing for, call me!" Charlie added making the phone sign with her hand. At this I couldn't help the chuckle that escaped my lips.
"I promise Sweet." I winked back and watched the heat rise to her cheeks.
"Keep your head down out there, okay?" Dean offered as I stepped back towards the guys.
"This ain't the first time I've disappeared. You think my name is really Charlie Bradbury? Please." Charlie scoffed as she smirked at our surprised expressions. "So, good luck saving the world. Peace out, bitches." Charlie cried out doing the Vulcan thing with her hand. We watched as she passed the bag to the driver and climbed onto the bus.
"She's kind of like the little sister I never wanted." Dean joked smirking at Charlie as we gave her a small wave and walked off past the bus.
"We got to talk." Sam announced sounding deadly serious.
"What, you mean before we get back to the car and the flask?" Dean scoffed in response.
"Exactly. So, what the hell happened back in the lobby, Dean?" Sam asked as I just brought my arm up closer to my body.
"Man, if I had a free shot, I'd have bitch-slapped the hell out of Dick." Dean shrugged as he glanced at me.
"He did keep me safe, kept Dick off me until you guys showed." I explained looking from Sam to Dean.
"Yeah, but, I mean," Sam sighed, stopping and turning to face me and Dean. "Charlie got her freaking arm broken."
"He didn't mean to do it." Dean cried out trying to defend Bobby and his actions.
"Exactly. He's not in control, not about Dick. That was vengeful-spirit crap." Sam explained blowing the air out of his cheeks in exasperation.
"I know. But it's still Bobby." Dean sighed rubbing a hand over his face.
"But if he really goes there, he won't be anymore, and then we won't be able to pull him back. And then what are we supposed to do?" Sam asked seriously worried about Bobby and just what the hell he might become.
"I know. Look, let's just figure out what that thing we stole is, and then we'll figure out what the hell to do with Bobby." Dean grunted before at Sam before walking off. Both me and Sam shared a worried look before fallowing him out.
Well that means we're getting closer to the end of season 7! I hope you enjoyed this chapter!
