Part 57

Once again Asian Camp was coming to an end. A lot of the kids were happy that they would meet their family again and tell them of all the fun things that had happened this year. The pranks Wes and Tike had played had made the grownups retaliate so the last few weeks of camp a prank war started between the kids and grownups. No one got hurt and it was all in good fun. Nina had told Lisa and Jerry that this was the best camp they had ever had… right before she pranked a few of the older girls at camp. Wes watched his friends happily talking about telling their families what had happened this year, but he didn't really feel their joy. He was too old for camp next year so he wasn't going to go probably. He didn't know what to do next year… where could he go when he didn't belong anywhere?

But Wes didn't know that while Lisa was going on and on about something behind her, Nina was watching Wes sit by himself out by the flagpole. She could see the sadness on his face. She knew his story, Carmichael and Jerry had informed her. She watched him watch his friends talk about their happy lives, family that loved them and just normal home lives. But Wes didn't have any of that. He didn't have a family of his own to return to. True he had all those boys at his school but that wasn't the same thing. Not to Nina anyway. The boy needed parental guidance and to know that he was loved always. When he graduated from that school he would have to leave and… then what? He couldn't come back to Dalton every year because it wouldn't be his home. But where could the boy go? Who would look after him when things got rough outside of Dalton? Who would he return to every Christmas and every Thanksgiving? He would be alone in an apartment somewhere. He had nowhere to go.

She looked out the window again and saw Wes look up and smile at something. She didn't have to wait long to figure out what it was. It was the youngest kids at camp, all of them. They all adored Wes and loved to play with him, Mike and Tina. They were maybe 20 and they were surrounding him she had no idea what they asked about but it brought a smile to Wes' face. She watched him get up and the kids gathered around him. He turned to them and spread them out with an equal distance between them and then she understood what he was doing. He was teaching them some of his martial arts skills and the kids were following his directions. Wes looked at them and walked up to a few of them and adjusted a few things. Nina smiled and then turned to Jerry and Lisa.

"Light bulb moment!" she called and hurried out of the office.

"What", Lisa asked in confusion and followed Lisa and Jerry did the same. They had been talking about new teen instructors next year. They followed Nina out and when they got outside Jerry started smiling. It looked as if Wes had taken over the martial art education at camp. He was instructing maybe twenty kids in some moves and Jerry couldn't help but grin. He watched Nina hurry up to Wes and ask him something. Jerry had no idea what it was but he saw the look on Wes' face… well looks. He asked Nina a few things and she answered and then his face lit up with a bright smile and he gave Nina a big hug. The kids started to cheer and jump up and down. Jerry smiled too. He knew his kiddo had been worried about what to do next year and if Nina had done what he suspected… Wes would not have to worry at all. Wes would be back at Asian Camp next year, but then he wouldn't be some little camper. He would be an instructor and by the looks of it… it would be in martial arts.

The auditorium at camp wasn't the biggest in the world but all kids fit in and their parents too. Everyone was laughing at the video Nina had just showed them, from that night where Wes and Mike told that ghost story. Everyone laughed as Wes got him and Jerry into the lake and then at Mike being thrown in as well. More videos and pictures were shown from the camp activities… and prank wars. When the movies and pictures were done everyone got on their feet and cheered. Mike, Wes and Tina fistbumped and then sat down waiting for Nina to finish her speech about the summer. The three promised to mail each other whenever they could… and maybe they'd get together during the school year. But if not… well they'd meet up at camp again. There was some singing and other performances. Nina handed out awards to the students that had excelled best in the classes. Tina got for singing, Mike dancing and Wes got first prize in martial arts.

"Now we only have one prize left", Nina said happily. "And that's the prize for camper of the year. So let's see… um Lisa."

"Yes?" Lisa asked confused.

"What was the motivation again?"

"Nina seriously", Lisa said walking onto the stage while the kids laughed. "You'd forget your head if it wasn't attached to your shoulders…" She turned to the kids and their parents. "The camper of the year is actually three people this time. They started the little war we got and they did it to lighten the mood around here after a very… boring time. Even though their pranks may have been… quite horrifying at times."

Tina giggled thinking of the rat one.

"They were really trying to make this summer fun and not just for themselves but for everyone and they did it. So this year's campers of the year are Wes Montgomery, Mike Chang and Tina Cohen-Chang!" The cheers were loud as the trio got their award and hugs from Lisa and Nina. With that Asian Camp closed yet again.

"Wes you remember my mom and dad", Mike said and pulled Wes over to an Asian couple. Tina was standing with them, her parents couldn't come and get her, the Changs offered to give her a ride.

"Mom, dad you remember Wes right", Mike said and Wes shook hands with the Changs.

"Yes we do", Mr. Chang said and smiled. "Well you have grown since we saw you last.. or maybe the rest of us shrunk."

"Dad!" Mike objected and Wes smiled.

"Yeah I'm a bit on the short side", he side and then looked at Mike. "Well I gotta go now or Jerry is gonna have my hide for making him miss his flight."

"Okay but write and text and call okay", Mike asked and they hugged.

"I promise if you promise."

Mike grinned and after hugging Tina goodbye as well Wes hurried up to Jerry and the two got into their cab and headed for the airport. Wes noticed Jerry once again texting someone on his phone. He smirked. This would be fun.

At the airport, just as the year before all the available Warblers were there to wave Jerry off… but they weren't the only ones.

"You going too Emma", Nathan asked as Kim helped his cousin carry her bag.

"Yeah I still have to study back in Sweden", she said and smiled. There was a call. "Oh! That's my flight!" She turned to Kim and gave him a big hug and then hurried off, waving but she stopped for a second and smiled at Jerry and gave him a little wink. Jerry blushed and Emma hurried off. Kim turned to Jerry who got his phone out as it beeped.

"What was that", Kim asked.

"What was what", Jerry asked and looked up from his phone after texting back.

"Why did my cousin wink at you?"

"How should I know?" He got another text.

"Who are you texting", Otto asked.

"No one…"

"Oh he's been doing that to and fro all summer", Wes said and shrugged. "I think Jerry has a girlfriend."

"Oooooh", the boys around Jerry said and he turned bright red.

"I do not", Jerry objected. "Don't listen to the runt!"

Wes smirked and fast like a viper he snatched the phone from Jerry's hand.

"Hey!" Jerry called but Wes hurried out of reach.

"Oh listen to this guys", Wes said and laughed. "'Jer I hope I'll see you soon I'll miss you.'"

"Wesley", Jerry warned and tried to grab the kid. But Wes got out of his reach.

"Oh listen to something Jerry told her when she told him to not forget her!" he laughed.

"Wesley!"

"*Baby how can I ever forget you? Ever since I first saw you I knew we belonged together and nothing or no one could change that.' Ain't he a sweetheart?"

"Wesley!"

"Nate", Wes called and threw the phone to Nathan. Nathan caught it.

"'My sweetest love you are the sunshine of my life'", he read. "Aw so sweet… wow her answer is amazing."

"What is it?" someone asked.

"Nathan!" Jerry yelled and grabbed for the phone but Nathan had already thrown it to Otto.

"'You're a grown man so talk like one'", Otto read. "'But thank you.'"

"Otto!"

"'You're so sweet Jerry'", Otto read as he ran around. "'I hope you'll come by my place soon.'"

"Ooooh", the boys around called.

"Otto I'm warning you", Jerry growled but his phone made it back to Wes' hands. Wes jumped onto a plastic chair.

"'Meeting you was the only good thing with going to the United States'", he read happily. "'If I come back next summer I'll hope to see you there unless you drop by here.' Oi Kim check who's it from!"

He threw the phone to Kim and Kim caught it. When he did Jerry paled.

"'Love'", Kim started to read with a smile on his face. But it trailed off. "'Emma.'"

"Somebody's in trouble", the Everetts singsang.

Kim glared at Jerry who looked sheepish.

"My cousin Jerry", Kim asked.

"You know my flight is about to get called", Jerry said and gave everyone around him a quick hug, that included Wes.

"Kid I'll kill you", Jerry growled into his ear and then turned and snatched his phone before running to his gate.

"JERRY!" Kim yelled. But Jerry Jonston was far gone.

"So", Nathan said and put his arm around Wes' shoulder as they looked up at the Dragon. "How does it feel to really be a Dalton/Dragon boy?"

Wes turned to Nathan and smiled.

"Like it always feels after summer", Wes said. "It feels like coming home."

Nathan grinned and Wes grinned back. Otto put his arm around Wes too and they headed into their dorm for yet another new and fantastic year at Dalton.
