Part 68
After Christmas things really weren't the same at Dalton. Kim may just have been one student leaving… but everyone was missing him. The boys in his dorm. His friends in the Warblers and on the basketball team. Alvaro. Everyone, even the teachers were missing the Swede. Wes met Mr. Johansson and his fiancée a few times in Westerville over the break and both looked very sad. They were missing Kim as well. The school needed something to cheer them up! And Wes had an idea. He knew exactly what to do. It was going to be very stupid, but fun and enjoyable for everyone. Well mostly everyone.
"No way", Nathan said and crossed his arms. "I refuse!"
"Aw come on", Wes said and pulled on his arm. "You'll love it!"
"There is no way I am going to perform in front of the whole school dressed as a sex addicted bitch!"
"Mind your language", Mitch scolded.
"But it's all there in chapter 39 of genesis!" Nathan objected.
"Well not by those words exactly…"
"Come on Nathan please", Wes said and pouted. "Pretty please."
"No way in hell!" Nathan yelled. Wes sighed.
"Fine I didn't want to recent to this", he said and let go of Nathan's arm. "But you give me no choice."
"What are you talking about", Nathan asked and turned to look at Wes. "That's not fair!" Wes and Mitch were giving Nathan their best puppy eyes. The rest of the Warblers laughed because it was obvious that Nathan was getting under the influence of both set of puppy eyes.
"But everyone will laugh at me", Nathan whined.
"That's sort of the point", Wes said sweetly. "We want to cheer everyone up."
"Then why can't you be her?!" Nathan objected.
"I'm not androgynous enough", Wes said innocently. Nathan had no good comeback for that. He just stood there. The room was completely quiet as they waited for Nathan to give up. There was no way Wes and Mitch would give up on this. After a few minutes Nathan whined and gave in.
"Fine!" He shouted and sat down on a couch. "I'll play that stupid part!"
"Yes", Wes cheered and Mitch giggled. Then he noticed Nathan pout.
"Nate don't pout like that", he said.
"Why not", Nathan asked.
"A bird might fly over and land there."
Nathan pulled his lip in and everyone laughed. This would actually be fun and it was all Wes' idea. Otto looked at the younger boy and smiled fondly. Wes was quite the leader. He took charge so simply and he knew how to make the boys see things his way, well most of the time. Otto smiled fondly.
When he looked at Wes these days he couldn't see that scared little kid he and Nathan had met, the lost little boy. Nowadays he saw a strong individual, a leader type and a brother type. Jerry had told them that at Asian Camp Wes was quite the big brother. Otto found himself wondering who had influenced Wes to become who he was.
The answer was not so simple because Wes reminded him of a lot of Warblers, himself included. But the Warblers that he actually saw most of in Wes was Jerry, Austin, Mark, Justine, Otthan and the Everetts and also a lot of Mitch. It was as if someone had taken features from all the Warblers, their best qualities, to make one individual. And that individual was Wes Montgomery.
"Let's appoint the other roles", Mitch said to calm Nathan down. They started to appoint the roles and had tones of fun doing it. Wes even called Benjamin because he knew more of the show than any Warbler and he happily agreed to help direct them.
Carmichael had no idea about what the Warblers were planning. Wes and Otto had approached him and told him they had a little show to put up for their friends. They just wanted to lighten the mood of the school and just have some fun. Carmichael trusted them so he had no problem letting the boys do as they pleased. At the next school assembly Carmichael let the boys handle everything. He got on the stage and then walked off leaving everyone confused. That's when Wes got up from his seat amongst the freshmen and sang:
Some folks dream of the wonders they'll do,
Before their time on this planet is through.
Some just don't have anything planned,
They hide their hopes and their heads in the sand.
Now I don't say who is wrong who is right,
But if by chance you are here for the night.
Then all I need is an hour or two to tell the tale of a dreamer like you.
The Dalton boys grinned widely at this and Wes started to walk down the aisles towards the stage.
We all dream alot.
Some are lucky, some are not.
But if you think it, want it, dream it,
Then it's real.
You are what you feel.
Wes had now reached the stage and looked at the Dalton boys with a soft smile.
But all that I say,
Can be told another way.
In the story of a boy who's dreams came true.
And he could be you.
After that the doors opened at the back of the auditorium when the music for next song started. Everyone turned around and looked as Collin Pratchett entered. Benjamin and Wes had with help from Otto and the Council directed the play so that they imitated the movie version as much as possible so that more people would recognize what was going on.
"I was sure Wes was going to be Joseph", Samuel whispered to the others in their gang as Collin sang Any Dream Will Do.
"Yeah", Kevin agreed. "Wes is the lead singer in the Warblers. Shouldn't that mean he gets the main role?"
"That's not how they solved it", Benjamin whispered. "Sure Wes was nominated for Joseph but since Wes clearly has the best voice they wanted him to sing the most. And that's what the narrator does he or she sings the most. So Wes became the narrator."
"But why Collin?" Cory asked. "He's a good singer, but why him?"
"I don't know", Benjamin said and shrugged. "Wes nominated him."
"Why do you know so much about this Benny", Gabriel asked. Benjamin blushed.
"Wes asked me to help them direct", he said. "I'm named after the show and I know it by heart. And backwards and upside down and in other languages and… well you get the picture."
"That's sweet Benny", Kevin said with a fond smile. Then the little group jumped as the music got loud and Wes handed Collin a multicolored coat. Collin disappeared behind the curtain on the stage and Wes stood in front of the curtain with a grin. Then he started singing:
Way way back many centuries ago,
Not long after the Bible began
Jacob lived in the land of Canaan,
A fine example of a family man.
He threw his arms out to the sound and when he did the curtain was pulled aside and there stood Rob Barton, dressed as an older man. Wes sang at the same time as the curtains were pulled open:
Jacob, Jacob and sons,
Depended on farming to earn their keep.
Jacob, Jacob and sons,
Spent all of his days in the fields with sheep.
Wes started to walk around Rob, stroking his arm, back or chest as he did while singing:
Jacob was the founder of a whole new nation
Thanks to the number of children he had
He was also known as Israel, but most of the time
His sons and his wives used to call him Dad.
Wes jumped to the side as Rob threw his arms out with a happy smile.
Jacob, Jacob and sons,
Men of the soil, of the sheaf and crook
Jacob, Jacob and sons,
A remarkable family in anyone's book.
Then someone jumped out on the other left side of the stage:
Eric A: Reuben
Wes: Was the eldest of the children of Israel
Julian: Simeon
Carl: Levi
Wes: The next in line
John: Naphtali
Howard: Issachar
Logan: Asher
Eric E: Dan
Wes: With
Oliver: Zebulon
Wes: And
Brett: Gad
Wes: Took the total to nine
Jacob, Jacob and sons,
Isaac: Benjamin
Juan: Judah
Wes: Which leaves only one
Jacob, Jacob and sons,
Joseph - Jacob's favourite son
All: Jacob, Jacob and sons
Jacob, Jacob and sons
Jacob, Jacob and sons
Jacob Jacob Jacob
Jacob and
Sons
Each time one of the "sons" names were sung said "brother" appeared almost out of nowhere. But it left a few questions. There were still a few Warblers missing. Like Otto Johnson and Nathan Newland. Shouldn't they have been two of the brothers? The boys of the Dragon noticed that Alexander Dumas was also missing and so was the mini-Warbler aka Mitch Magnuson and Peter Pan Watson.
The show continued but there was still no sign of the Warblers that were missing in actions. The students and staff that knew the show were trying to figure out who was going to play who but it was hard. Benjamin was making the other freshmen confused because he was giddy and bouncing happily in his seat for some reason. The thing is Benjamin couldn't wait to see the crowd's reaction to Nathan as Mrs. Potiphar. Benjamin turned around in his seat and his friends did the same. After all… Benjamin had helped directing this little show. When the previous song ended the light was aimed at the doors of the auditorium. Wes was standing there.
"Joseph was brought to Egypt in chains and sold", Wes said. "Where he was bought by a captain named Potiphar!" He sang the name and the doors opened and in came Otto Johnson. Otto's hair was slicked back, he wore a sharp suit, a monocle and a cane. Wes smiled happily and sang:
Potiphar had very few cares.
He was one of Egypts millionaires.
Having made a fortune buying shares…
Wes looked at Otto who was looking over his nails after cleaning them on his suit.
Otto: In pyramids.
Otto started to walk down towards the stage and Wes walked beside him.
Wes: Potiphar had made a huge pile.
Owned a large percentage of the Nile.
Meant that he could really live in style
And he did.
The number continued and the audience laughed at the little show Otto, Collin and Wes put on as they played out the scene. The rest of the Warblers doubled as servants when they weren't the brothers. Wes sang a bit about Joseph and then turned to Otto again and sang with devotion in his vice:
Potiphar was cool and sooooo fine,
Otto: But my wife would never tell a lie.
Wes: It's all there in chapter thirty-nine of
Genesis.
"Don't believe all you read dear", Otto told Wes. Wes smirked and pointed to the doors and sang:
She was beautiful but
Nathan: evil.
Wes: Saw a lot of men against his will.
He would have to tell her
That she still was his.
"You're mine!" Otto yelled sharply and his wife looked horrified. By now all the boys of Dalton was laughing hysterically. Nathan Newland had appeared in the doors of the auditorium. Dressed in a tight sparking blue dress, a long black wig, fake boobs, fake curves (made by a corset), a crown, makeup and high heels. He actually look kind of good and lots of pictures were taken for the yearbook and just for fun memories.
As the song continued Nathan moved down towards the stage. This was the first time anyone had seen him in full costume and some Warblers had a hard time containing their laughter. Wes was one of them. But he still managed to continue the singing.
Wes: Joseph's looks and handsome figure
Had attracted her attention
Ev'ry morning she would beckon
Nathan: "Come and lie with me, love."
Wes: Joseph wanted to resist her
'Till one day she proved too eager.
Joseph cried in vain,
Collin: "Please stop! I don't believe in free love!"
The almost orgy like scen from the movie had been cut out of the number all together and Wes skipped over to Otto that was counting something. Wes leaned over his shoulder and sang happily:
Potiphar was counting shekels
In his den below the bedroom
When he heard a mighty rumpus
Clattering above him.
Suddenly he knew his riches
Couldn't buy him what he wanted
Gold would never make him happy
If she didn't love him!
Everyone cheered as the show continued. Otto was a very convincing angry husband and Nathan was just purely amazing as Mrs. Potiphar. Everyone enjoyed the show and soon they realized why the rest of the Warblers had been missing. Mitch was the butler, Peter Pan Watson was the baker and the part as pharaoh had fallen onto Alexander Dumas. Alexander was really good as the Pharaoh and the whole show was amazing. True they lacked all female parts from the movie version and lots of other stuff. But still it was amazing. It brought much laughter around the auditorium. Even the staff was truly enjoying themselves. As was Nathan. He couldn't deny playing the part was fun. But when the show ended and everyone had left he turned to the others and said:
"Yes it was lots of fun. Now… help me out of this fucking corset!"
The rest of the Warblers laughed till they cried and later when he returned to his dorm Nathan noticed his inbox full of congratulations from ex Warblers and ex students that had somehow gotten to see the picture. Justine's message though scared him because she threatened him with bodily harm if he intended to take her spot as the school's only Warbleress and if he started to flirt with Austin he, Nathan, was a dead woman. Nathan hurriedly answered that he would not dream of doing any of it. All he got as a reply was a heart. Justine was both weird and scary sometimes.
Like all previous years the Warblers and Trixie wanted to keep Wes from finding out about his surprise party. So they were all hiding from him at the Bean, it was 10 pm so Wes wasn't allowed outside, all freshmen had their curfew at 10 pm. So the Warblers were sitting in the Lima Bean. They had pushed their usual tables together and were now sitting at one big table. To sneak out hadn't been so hard since Wes was doing a study circle today with his freshmen friends.
"Okay fellas", Otto said, his whistle hung around his neck, just in case. Well for once was more like it. Wes kept stealing it from him and hid it in very good hiding places. Otto had more than once had to rely on chance to find the thing! Wes' hiding places had gotten a lot better and his best one so far was switching it for the I in the Tortoise sign at said dorm. Otto had nearly gotten pounded by some BT seniors that saw him "vandalizing" their sign. Wes had enjoyed ever last bit of it. But how he had gotten away with it was a mystery to Otto. But I am pretty sure you all can figure out how he did it.
"The first thing we have to think off his how to get Wes away from the Bean while we make sure everything is okay for the party", Otto said as he looked at his papers.
"I'll handle it", Alvaro chuckled. Since they had made him an honorary Warbler Otto and Nathan had dragged him with them to the planning.
"Hell no!" Nathan objected. "You are just going to take him out and hit on girls!"
"Of course, what's wrong with that?"
"Because he's my baby! He's not supposed to do that with girls!"
"He turns 16", Alvaro said with a tired look. "There's still a big group of girls at Crawford that wants him in their beds."
The boys stared at her, except Mitch.
"Oh come on", Alvaro said. "You must've noticed that! They're practically throwing themselves at him when they see him!"
"Stop it!" Nathan screamed in terror. "My baby is not sexually active at all!"
"That's what you think", Rob chuckled. But before Nathan could answer Otto blew the whistle.
"Knock it off", he said. "We're here to plan a party, not discussing Wes' love life. Any objections?"
Everyone shook their heads.
"So", Alexander spoke up. "Who are going to attend this party?"
"Well all of us in the Warblers of course", Rob said.
"No exceptions", Otto said and looked up sharply before returning to taking notes.
"And his friends from school", Mitch said with a fond smile.
The boys all smiled fondly. The seniors more than the others because they had seen what Wes was like when he first came to Dalton.
"So what more do we need Otto", Oliver asked and yawned, he was a bit tired.
"Well", Otto said and smiled. "We need drinks, strictly no alcohol, something to eat and a cake."
The others started to come with suggestions rather fast, but Otto asked them to slow down because he was trying to take note of everything.
"Good", he said after a bit. "Does anyone have the number for a great baker?"
"I do", Oliver said happily.
"Is it okay if I bring my boyfriend along again", Isaac asked shyly and the others all grinned at him. "I mean he and Wes are still friends after all. I don't know how they know each other but Vlad spent time with him over Christmas break…"
"The more the merrier I thought you knew that by now", Rob teased.
Isaac blushed and mumbled a thank you while the others laughed or chuckled.
"So what are we giving the little runt", Eric and Brett asked with affection and the boys looked at each other and then Otto.
"Mitch any ideas", he said so they all turned to Mitch.
"What are you looking at me for", he asked.
"You're the resident shopping guru", Nathan explained as Trixie and another waiter came over with their normal drinks. "Why do we have to go through this each year?"
"And you've never let us down so far", Collin piped up. "Or have your imagination run dry?"
"I feel insulted", Mitch said and looked at him. "I haven't run out of ideas!"
Everyone laughed at how offended he looked, it was quite adorable but also a bit sad to see him like this without Justine. It was like one half was missing. But the whole circus was almost exactly like the other two times they planed the party.
"We should all know what Wes is interested in by now", Mitch said calmly. "He likes music, books, drawing or martial arts stuff. He could always use some more clothes, records, games or just funny stuff." They all agreed and started to come with ideas, Nathan excused himself to go to the bathroom.
"Are we talking about Wes' birthday here my sweets", Trixie asked and put a hand on Otto's shoulder.
"Yes", all the Warblers said and she smiled.
"We are planning it Ma", Otto said with a smile. "Ow!" she had slapped him on the head with her tray. The others sniggered and she bopped the three boys closest to her with the tray.
"Don't laugh at other's misfortune", she told them and then looked sternly at Austin. "Why wasn't I informed? So what are you planning to do? Where will this party be held? What kind of food are you having? I hope for your Justine and you boys' sake that there will be no alcohol. How about the cake? Will all his friends be there? Well answer me!"
"Well Ma we are going-"
"He will suspect it being at Dalton this time since were here last year and the year before", Trixie said. "So we should have it at Dalton."
"But Ma he will be suspicious!" Otto objected. "Ow!" she had hit him on the head with her tray again.
"Don't interrupt dear", she said.
"Fine", Otto grumbled and rubbed his head.
"Now where was I?" she tapped her chin. "Well I suppose I can make sure you have something to drink and some food to eat. You boys-"
"We'll handle the music", Otto said. "Ow!" She had hit him again.
"I said don't interrupt dear", she said and smiled. "Make sure that Carmichael is here and the boys from the Dragon that are available, his other friends too of course and the boys from the martial arts team."
"Obviously", Otto said and got hit again. "Ow!"
"-drinks I can fix", Trixie continued.
"He'll appreciate that Ma", Otto said with a smile, trying to get back on her good side. "Ow!"
"I told you not to interrupt dear."
"Fine… but we'll pay you ow!" he got hit again.
"It won't cost you anything dear", Trixie continued.
"Thank you", Otto grumbled as he rubbed his head.
"Oh don't worry about Carmichael and his stupid rules about no parties during a school night. We will have him and probably Ms. Lincoln there to keep an eye on things."
"Of course."
"And for gifts, go-"
"In groups tomorrow so he won't suspect anything", Otto cut in only to be hit again. "Ow!"
"You can buy whatever you think you'd buy for a boy his age. He turns 16 right?"
"Yes."
"Good deary, now none of you buy anything that has to do with sex, he is still too young for that. Make some funny music number for him, I think he'd enjoy that, he did last year. How about something from abroad? God knows that boy needs more internationality in his life… and you lot do too."
"No we don't. Ow!"
"And to keep him out of the loop you just carry on like usual."
"Duh, ow!"
"That way he won't suspect a thing and I don't think he will care. He didn't last year right? Or the year before that. Do you think he will be expecting something this year?"
"Probably."
"Okay well then try to keep him occupied, he is a very clever boy. Then make sure Wes is at the choir room around 5 pm and everything will be done and ready!"
"Yeah sure", Otto grumbled. "We'll have the ca-"
"Oh my I almost forgot!" Trixie cut in. "I will wipe up a few cakes, cookies and-"
"Not necessary Ma", Otto said. "We have the number to a great baker and-"
Trixie hit him so hard Otto's head hit the table. He sat up and swayed a bit before falling out of his chair. Trixie looked at the rest of the boys that were staring in awe and horror at Otto.
"I'll make the cakes and cookies needed", Trixie said calmly. Knowing Otto was just okay. "Aw there's a dent in my tray…"
"Did you have to hit him so hard Ma", Mitch asked carefully.
"Yes he insulted me. Dearest he should've been more like Austin."
"I don't think he meant it. But we'll see you tomorrow?"
"Good sweethearts. See you then." She patted Mitch on the cheek and stormed off with the other waiter that was giggling like crazy.
"Nelson stop acting like a school girl!" they heard Trixie scold before she disappeared into the kitchen. The Warblers looked at Otto again.
"Is he dead", Logan asked carefully. Alvaro poked Otto with his toe and he groaned.
"Nope just taking a nap", Alvaro chuckled.
That's when Nathan returned from the bathroom. When he saw his best friend on the floor he cocked an eyebrow in confusion.
"What happened to him", he asked as he sat down beside Mitch and put his arm around him.
"He wasn't as smart as Austin", Mitch answered.
"Let me guess, I tried to interrupt and Ma knocked him out with her tray?"
"I knew I choose you over Otto for a reason."
"Because I'm gay and he's not?"
"No love", Mitch said and kissed his cheek.
"Then why?"
"You will get it one day", Mitch said and then smirked. "Hopefully." Everyone except Nathan (and Otto) laughed.
"What", Nathan asked. "What did I miss? Mitch what did you say?" The last was almost a whine.
"Nothing baby", Mitch said and patted his hand.
"But Mitch", Nathan whined. "Everyone is laughing at me."
Mitch's only reply was a soft giggle and then a kiss on Nathan's cheek.
The next day found Wes running like he was being chased by wolves. He was running from the martial arts team. He was not going to be taken down this time. Which he proved back in the dojo when the team tried to catch him. He used his knowledge in martial arts to keep the others off of him, unknowingly, greatly impressing his coach.
"Get back here", Wes could hear someone from the team yell as he dashed down the hallways, trying to avoid them.
"Ow!" he heard someone yell as they slipped on the marble floor. Wes smirked. There was one thing that he got more than anyone else of the team. And that was experience of being chased down halls with marble floors. Wes had long ago learnt how to maneuver on said floors. So when his teammates slid around or fell he could stay upright.
"Sorry ma'am", he said as he ran by a female teacher. She just shook her head.
Wes continued running but suddenly realize that the martial arts team wasn't the only team that was trying to catch him. Everyone that knew of their tradition did. And everyone knew that it was the martial arts team that was running by because a: they were barefoot, b: they had their martial arts outfits on and c: everyone at school by now knew who they were after they trashed their competition in the state finals. They were going to the national championship soon. So they were just as known at Dalton as the Warblers were. But those that didn't know him from there… knew him from the Joseph performance in the auditorium. Wes chanced a look over his shoulder and ran straight into someone. This someone picked him up and slung him over his shoulder.
"Hey put me down", Wes objected. He had no idea on who caught him. But he realized from the smug looks on the faces of his team that it had to be their coach.
"He's gonna put you down", Milton said as they walked. "In your righteous place."
"Aw come on", Wes whined as they got to the pool. The whole swim team was there along with the swim jump team and other water teams. Everyone was laughing as they saw what was going on. Wes smirked evilly and clung to the back of his captor's jacket. Said person didn't appear to notice. So when he flung Wes into the pool… Wes dragged him along with him. There was a big splash and a lot of laughter. Wes broke the surface looking smug but the look left his face.
"Oh I'm so sorry sir", he squeaked. "Principal Carmichael I'm so sorry!"
Carmichael just laughed and dunked Wes. Wes came up spluttering and staring at Carmichael.
"Happy birthday son", Carmichael said and Wes smiled happily. Before being dunked again but this time by the swim team.
Wes wasn't amused at all. He just wanted to go to the choir room and play a bit on the piano but every time he tried to go in that direction someone either called him or caught up to him and brought him somewhere else. Wes had quite the good idea of what was going on but he wasn't 100% sure. After all with the Warblers you never knew what the heck was going on. But at 5 pm he got a text from Otto, asking him to meet him in the choir room to go over some songs they could use for regionals. Wes sighed, he wouldn't get time to practice today either. He walked to the choir room and opened the door.
"SURPRISE!"
Wes just stood there and gaped as he saw all his friends and some grownups that he knew cared about him stood there underneath a banderol that said: "Happy Birthday Wes!" He was stunned that the guys had managed to trick him... again. Rob grinned and ran up to him and grabbed hold around Wes' middle and carried him to the center of the room, against protest from the birthday boy and with laughter from the onlookers.
"Come on Smurf", Rob said as he did this. "Time to get your party started!"
"Hey put me down!" Wes objected but he was smiling and Rob put him down amongst all the people and Wes got attacked with birthday-hugs from left and right and he was so overwhelmed that he nearly fainted.
"Oi sweethearts give the little one some air", Trixie ordered and Wes felt someone help him over to a chair. "Are you okay baby?"
Wes only looked at her with a small smile.
"Do you still insist on calling me the little one", he asked.
"Yes", she aid and kissed his cheek. "Now let's be traditional people."
Wes didn't understand until the Warblers, the other Dalton boys he counted as friends, Carmichael and Trixie and her staff stood around him and started to sing Happy Birthday. Wes blushed as they sang but Trixie walked over and just hugged him to her. After the singing they all small talked a bit, but Alvaro noticed Otto glaring at Wes so Alvaro walked over to Nathan, he always knew what was up.
"Yo Newland", he asked. "Why is your buddy looking so suspicious?"
Nathan laughed.
"Wes hid his whistle again", he said loud enough for everyone to hear.
"Sweet!" Collin cheered and got a death glare. Carmichael only laughed at the whole thing. Wes grinned innocently at Otto and gave him his best puppy-eyes, asking for forgiveness. Otto looked away, but it was too late. He'd seen them which meant he was doomed. He sighed and walked over to Wes with a smile on his face and hugged the younger boy close.
"You really are one wicked little kid did you know that", he asked.
"Yes you tell me that whenever I get rid of that horrid boomerang", Wes said.
"Boomerang", Benjamin asked. He and the other freshmen knew of the war but didn't understand it fully.
"His stupid whistle keeps coming back!"
"This time as well?" Logan wondered curiously.
"I hope not."
"Oh you better hope so", Otto growled and pointed a warning finger at him.
"Get off it Otto", Nathan laughed. "Let's get Wes some presents."
"No", Wes said. "You shouldn't, I insi-"
"Too late!" Oliver said happily and the juniors moved from where they were standing and Wes saw all the gifts he'd gotten. He rubbed his eyes in disbelief while he gaped. Carmichael laughed and patted him on the shoulder.
"There, there son", he said. "See I keep telling you there are people that care about you. Now let's see what you got." He smiled as Mitch walked up to Wes, it was still odd to see him without Justine.
"This is from me and Justine", he said. "And Joe and Austin." Wes opened the box and saw that it was a new leather jacket. Wes smiled and hugged Mitch happily. The gift giving went on. The Warblers had all bought presents in duos, making it easier for them all. The other Dalton boys hadn't bought anything but them being there was just enough and Alvaro had bought one together with Nathan and Otto. But there was also a gift sent from Sweden from Kim and EJ. No one knew who EJ was but Wes suspected two people. He even got a card from Olivia and a small gift. His freshmen friends bought a gift together. A book series Wes had wanted.
"Who wants some cake?" Trixie sang happily as she walked over. She had a huge cake with her that had 16 candles. Wes got to blow out the candles and wish for something, he didn't tell anyone but he didn't wish for anything this year either. He already had everything he wanted. He could feel the love from all of his friends… no from his family and he grinned.
After they had eaten the cake by chance Otto found the whistle. Wes was sure he would never find it this time but Otto had been leaning by the window. Outside there was an old thermometer that didn't work anymore so no one really cared about it. It was one of those tube like ones and when Otto looked out the window he noticed that instead of seeing the numbers and the little quicksilver tube one normally saw… he saw his whistle inside the thermometer.
"Wes Montgomery!" he belowed and the boy paled. "What the hell did you do to my whistle?!"
"Aw man", Wes groaned. "He found it!"
"Damn straight I did! Now what did you do to it?!"
"Huh?"
"It's stuck in that fucking thermometer and I can't get it open!" Otto yelled as he tried to open the thermometer.
"Wohoo!" Nathan cheered. "The wicked thing is finally dead!"
"Why don't you just crush it", Kevin asked confused. "You should be able to get to it then."
"No!" the others called but Otto smashed the thermometer against the brick wall outside and the top came off. He got the whistle out.
"Aw man", Wes groaned. "I got to find a better hiding place."
"Oh no you don't", Otto said and put the whistle in his chest pocket before he continued to eat his cake. But Wes saw it sticking up a bit and with a smirk walked over to him.
"Thanks for not killing me", he said and hugged the older boy around the neck. Otto smiled and ruffled his hair. Wes walked back to his place and flashed the little whistle to the boys closest to him and they started to snigger. Otto didn't even notice so Wes smirked and whispered:
"This will be the last time."
A few days after Wes' birthday said boy was in the choir room working on song arrangements for regionals. Alvaro was there to help him. They were discussing a number when there was a soft knock on the door. Both turned and saw a blonde young man, with brown eyes, dressed in a Dalton Academy uniform stand there with a soft smile on his face and a guitar case in hand.
"Is this a private party or can anybody join", he asked. Wes' face lit up with a big grin, as did Alvaro's.
"KIM!" Wes shouted and flew into his arms. Kim's laughter echoed down the hall.
TBC So so so so so so sorry for the long wait but I've just been so busy. Oh and I might just've kept Kim out of the story for one or two chapters... but I couldn't keep him away longer because I LOVE him.
Oh and if you love "my" Warblers as much as I do please read the story Mama And Papa. It has all of them, almost, in it but a bit different ;)
