Part 71

Wes took a deep breath and tried to relax. This wasn't really a new experience. He had done it before with some of the seniors and with the school instructor. But this was it. This was the last time before the "judgment day". Wes was nervous but Carmichael seemed calm and satisfied, giving him compliments and small tips along the way. But most of it was encouragement and praise. Wes felt good about it.

"You will have it tomorrow I bet on it", Carmichael said and smiled and patted Wes' back.

"You really think so sir?"

"I do and stop calling me sir son."

"I never called you sir son."

All he got was a soft whack to the head. Wes grinned and finished the last practice run, smiling happily and with an easy heart. He would have such a surprise for the guys tomorrow at the midsummer dinner.

It was the day of the midsummer's party and Wes was going to stay over at Oliver's this time and then get to Asian Camp. This year he had once again stayed back at the school for a few weeks to help the janitors, Carmichael and anyone who needed it for a small amount of money. When he arrived at Oliver's place he saw a dark car parked nearby and he could make out two shadows moving inside. What were they doing? He had no idea so he shrugged and walked up to the door . He knocked on the door and it was flung open and before he could even say: "Hi" he was pulled into a tight hug.

"Wes!" Nathan cheered. He was wearing a garland made of birch and with flowers in it. The garland was tied with yellow and blue ribbons, the Swedish colors. When Nathan let him go he put one of those garlands on Wes' head as well.

"Come on everyone else is 'round back!" Nathan said happily and grabbed Wes' hand and pulled him towards the door leading out in the yard. Wes was a bit confused and suspicious to the fact that Otto wasn't there… something was going on. And he was sure that he wouldn't like what it was. When they walked Wes noticed the Wilkins brothers through the door to the kitchen. They were wearing aprons and were scrubbing something.

"The guys got stuck scrubbing the new-potatoes again", Nathan explained happily when he saw Wes' amused smile and they headed outside.

"I see Kim wants to keep that thing this year too?" Wes asked as they walked past the maypole laying on the ground. "Do must have that thing in stock for the rest of the year?"

"Don't know", Nathan said happily and took Wes' hand. "Come let's go say hi to everyone!"

Wes smiled but then felt a pair of hands cover his eyes.

"Guess who", a voice said and Wes' grin got bigger than ever before.

"Jerry!" he cried and flew around and there was Jerry Jonston in all his glory. Jerry was not in Warbler uniform, no one was but there was no mistaking. It was Jerry. But Wes' grin died away when he noticed that Jerry was looking like a storm cloud and behind him… was Brad Sullivan and Otto Johnson. Wes looked at their angry looks.

"Aw shit", he said and ran for it. The trio took off after him. Adamant that they would catch him and throw him into the pool. But Wes was faster and more agile than the trio. He was running like crazy, diving under tables and moving around people in such ways that the other three collapsed onto the ground and ran into others. Wes did have help though. Some of the guys like Charles Owens and Ethan Hughes stuck their legs out to trip the three pursuers. But then Wes ran into something that felt like a brick wall and he was hoisted up in the air. It was Mark Connors of course.

"Hey no more running", he told Wes and the three pursuers hurried up to them, huffing and puffing. Mark gave all three of them a look.

"No killing here", he said. "It's a happy celebration remember?"

"Darn right", Nathan cheered as hugs were exchanged among the guys. But Wes was confused, why wasn't Justine or Justin there to hug him? He looked around and saw her sit there in a summer dress, looking sad.

"Hi guys sorry for the wait", Kim said and hurried up and hugged Wes happily. "I just had to pick Emma up from the airport."

"Hi", she said. She was dressed in light khaki pants, a purple shirt and black summer shoes. She wore no makeup at all.

"Still not wearing dresses", Jerry asked as he gave her a soft kiss, Kim looked angry though but Emma flipped her cousin off.

"I still despise the person that came up with the dress", she said and crossed her arms. Jerry chuckled and put an arm around her waist and lead her off. Wes turned to Mitch.

"Why is Justine so sad?" he asked and Mitch sighed.

"Austin and Joseph couldn't get a ticket back to the US to be here today… they have to wait another two weeks", he said and Wes understood the girl's sadness. But he was starting to suspect something. He walked up to Justine and sat beside her. She smiled sadly at him and rested her head on his shoulder. Wes wrapped both arms around her and hugged her close.

A bit later they all sat down by the table and had their food. Wes grinned when Emma sat down between Jerry and Mark. Kim was happily explaining to some of them what everything was. Emma looked at Jerry and he kissed her cheek. Wes had Justine opposite him and saw her sigh sadly. Mitch was sitting beside her holding her hand. Everyone gave her small supporting smiles, even Bastian Nolan was doing it and she let him. She didn't elbow him if he mentioned Austin's name. Wes smiled and then looked up and had to fight the wide grin that threatened to spread across his face. Two people were sneaking up on the table. One towards Ethan Hughes and the other towards Justine. She sniffled when Mitch told her everything would be okay and that Austin would be there soon. Wes and everyone on his side of the table smiled as the first person snuck his hands over Justine's eyes and the other did the same for Ethan.

"Guess who", a voice whispered in Justine's ear. A voice she recognized. A voice she missed. A voice she didn't think she would hear today… a boy she loved.

"AUSTIN!" she screamed happily and turned around, flying into his arms with such force that they both fell to the grass. Everyone else laughed and the laughter only got louder when Joseph Hughes squeaked in surprise when his older brother pulled him onto his lap and hugged him like a teddy bear. Everyone laughed and cheered. Their missing brothers were back.

The rest of the dinner went by easily and everyone sang and ate happily. Wes noticed that Emma wasn't drinking and since she didn't… neither did Jerry. Wes guessed he was trying to impress her... again. Austin and Joseph explained that they had managed to get tickets to a plane yesterday and wanted to surprise them. They had missed their brothers as much as they had been missed themselves and they had quite a few funny stories to tell each other. Justine didn't like it when Joseph told them about this girl crushing on Austin, but she changed her mind when Joseph explained that when the girl asked if Austin missed his family Austin had answered:

"Not as much as I miss my girlfriend, here's a picture. She's the fairest of them all."

"What about me", the girl had asked.

"What about you?"

"Aren't I fair?"

"A fair deal of cuckoo yes but not fair."

Justine giggled and kissed Austin happily. The Latino looked smug before saying:

"Told you I only have eyes for you."

"Don't I know it", Joseph whispered to Wes and his brother. "He has a picture underneath his pillow even."

The rest of the night went down smoothly but Justine and Austin were still cuddled up together, not really noticing anyone else in the garden. The boys were all spread out over the garden, some where even bathing. Jerry at one point leaned over and tapped Wes' shoulder. Mark sent him a warning glare. It was only Brad, Jerry and Otto that wanted to harm Wes for the execution of the whistle, the rest of the Warblers decided to protect their hero. Wes turned to Jerry.

"What", he asked.

"We leave a bit late for Asian Camp tomorrow", Jerry explained, holding Emma close. "I promised Emma to stop by the Bean before we leave." Emma had been allowed to come to the camp as a teacher as well. She was going to help out with the workshop and origami classes.

"Okay I'll see you there then", Wes said happily and looked at the sky.

"What? No I mean Emma and I'll give you a ride of course but we will leave a bit late and-"

"Jerry I don't need a ride", Wes said and looked at him.

"What? You got someone else to drive you?"

"Nope", Wes said and grinned. "I'm gonna drive myself."

"No you won't."

"Yes I will", Wes said happily. "As of yesterday I have my own license and I got to borrow Carmichael's third car."

"Wait wait wait", Emma said. "What did you say?"

"I got my license."

"No, no not that. Did you say his third car?"

"Yes", Wes said hesitantly.

"How many cars does he have?! How many does he need?!"

"Uh… I think he got five."

Emma rolled her eyes.

"Amerikaner…" she grumbled.

"I guess she said 'Americans'" Nathan said and everyone laughed.

"Why does it always sound like an insult when Emma and Kim say it like that", Isaac asked.

"Because it is", Emma and Kim said before laughing. Then ran as the Warblers set after them.

Driving to Asian Camp wasn't as hard or scary as Wes had thought at first, it had been his first long drive after all. But everything went fine and he arrived without any trouble. Wes got his bags out and then locked the car. He looked around but saw no sign of Mike or Tina. He shrugged and headed inside. He saw Lisa running around and register campers but since Wes wasn't a camper anymore he didn't need to be registered anymore. He only had to go to the office building and tell Nina he was there. He smiled at the kids that recognized him and waved at a few and a few hugged him. As he walked by the flagpole he laughed loudly. Chris Kim was standing there… tied to it and the little kids were dancing around him.

"Already caught Chris", Wes asked.

"The little goblins snuck up on me when I were unpacking my bags", Chris grumbled. "I never had a chance… free me!"

"Maybe later", Wes said and grinned evilly. "I have to talk to Nina."

"Montgomery! Don't you dare leave me here!"

"Now now Chris, it's good for you to get some sun."

"Wes!"

"Bye."

"MONTGOMERY!" Chris screamed as Wes walked away. Wes laughed all the way into the office and smiled at the other counselors there. They were all waiting for Nina who seemed to be on the phone. They waited for over thirty minutes before Nina came out and she jumped high with a squeak when she saw them there. After all, when she went into her office no one had been there.

"You okay Nina", one of the teachers/counselors asked. She wiped her eyes and panted as she calmed down.

"Y-yes I'm fine", she said. "Um but we have a small problem."

"What", someone asked.

"Jerry Jonston and Emma Bergman his girlfriend who would be teachers here…"

"What about them", Wes asked worriedly.

"They were in a car crash."
