Part 72

Wes stared at Nina with big eyes. Her eyes looked red and a bit puffy, as if she'd been crying and now she told them Jerry and Emma had been in a car crash. Had they… No… Wes felt as if everything was moving in slow motion. He felt a hand on his shoulder. All the grownups knew how close he and Jerry were so the woodshop teacher had put a hand on Wes' shoulder to steady him when he noticed Wes go pale. Nina also noticed this and her eyes widened.

"Oh no", she said. Because she knew what she must look like. "No no no no oh sweetheart nothing like that!" All her employees looked at her oddly.

"Excuse me", the man supporting Wes said.

"I look all upset because I've been laughing so hard."

"Laughing?!" a girl shrieked. "They were in a car crash!"

"Yes but listen. Jerry and Emma had gotten into his car which was parked outside a gas station. And when Jerry was pulling out a big truck came and blocked his path so he had to reverse and hit a parked car."

"So", Wes asked. "They're okay?"

"Yes… well Jerry was getting lectured by Emma I guess because Jerry also filled the diesel car he'd borrowed with normal petrol so… they won't be going anywhere."

"So our small problem is that they will be late", Wes asked.

"Yes. Sorry for worrying you sweetie I didn't mean it."

"It's okay", Wes said and smirked. "I'm never gonna let Jerry live this down!"

The others laughed, after all… they all knew how close Wes and Jerry were. So it wasn't more than right that Wes would treat him like an older brother and never let him live this down. Nina explained that the problem was that the two were now stranded. Lisa appeared and with her a solution. She went and got them in her car.

"Next time I'm driving", Emma said to Jerry as they entered the teacher's cottage.

"But… Emma you don't have a license", Jerry carefully pointed out.

"And I still drive better than you!"

"But Emma I just didn't look where I was going."

"And they let you have a license?! And don't get me started on the petrol!"

"How was I supposed to know the car was a diesel one?!"

"The big letters on the side saying: Local Diesel Cars!"

Jerry opened his mouth to object but realized… he had no clever reply… or a reply that wouldn't put him further down the hole he was digging for himself. Emma was stubborn like a donkey and she would never yield. Jerry knew that whatever he said… Emma would find a way to make it his fault. And with all right of course but still… Jerry didn't have to like it. He just sighed and put their bags down and then got a big hug, so forceful that he fell to the floor. He got up on his elbows and met the face of a grinning Wes. Jerry smiled back. Lisa had informed them about the scare Nina gave everyone.

"Hi Wes", Jerry said. "Did you make it up here okay?"

"Yeah in comparison to you I know how to drive", Wes teased. Jerry pouted.

"It wasn't my fault", he grumbled.

"Then who's was it? Emma's?"

"Think about your answer", Emma warned Jerry. Jerry grinned at her sheepishly. Emma shook her head and held her hand out to Wes. Wes took it and let Emma help him up before hugging her.

"Now let's go find Nina", Wes said and walked off with her.

"You are such a gentleman", Emma said and kissed his cheek.

"Wesley stay away from my girlfriend!" Jerry yelled and hurried after.

Wes didn't get time to try and find Mike and Tina before the official camp welcome bonfire started. Right now he and the other teachers and counselors were waiting for someone to pick up the guitar first. It itched in Jerry's fingers and in Wes'… but then Wes smiled as Chris Kim got up.

"I… I can sing", he said and some laughed at him.

"Hey!" Jerry cut in and the laughter died away.

"Thank you Jerry", Nina said and waited for Chris to come up on the stage. Chris did. When he was up there he took a deep sigh before hanging the guitar around his neck.

"Um… this is a song I think everyone knows and can join in with… It's Two Worlds One Family." He sighed again and sang a cappella:

Put your faith in what you most believe in
Two worlds, one family
Trust your heart
Let fate decide
To guide these lives we see

No one joined in… Wes didn't because he wanted to hear what Chris sounded like. He was good, needed some fine tuning and practice but he wasn't bad. Chris sighed and turned to get off the stage. Wes got up and sang:

Put your faith in what you most believe in
Wes & Jerry: Two worlds, one family
Trust your heart
Let fate decide
To guide these lives we see

The kids cheered and Chris grinned.

Chris: A paradise untouched by man
Within this world blessed with love
A simple life, they live in peace

Chris:(Wes & Jerry harmonizing): Softly tread the sand below your feet now
Two worlds, one family
Trust your heart
Let fate decide
To guide these lives we see

Beneath the shelter of the trees
Only love can enter here
A simple life, they live in peace

Wes: Raise your head up
Lift high the load
Jerry: Take strength from those that need you
Chris: Build high the walls
Build stronger beams
A new life is waiting
But danger's no stranger here

Everyone cheered and some of the musical interested students started playing either drums or humming along in harmony. Jerry came face to face with Emma in the dance that had ensued and sang to her, holding a flower out, trying to get forgiveness:

No words describe a mother's tears
No words can heal a broken heart
The dream is gone, but then there's hope
Someone is calling for you
Two worlds, one family
Trust your heart
Let fate decide
To guide these lives we see

Emma laughed, took the flower and kissed his cheek before slapping him on the arm. Everyone laughed. The incident with the cars had spread through camp like wildfire.

All: With every ending comes a new beginning
Two worlds, one family
Trust your heart
Let fate decide
To guide these lives
To guide these lives we see

Chris: Put your faith in what you most believe in
Two worlds, one family

Everyone cheered and once again Asian Camp had been started. Wes and Emma got introduced as workers along with a few others and everyone cheered for them. Wes had to admit that Emma looked a bit out of place amongst all Asian people. She was for the moment the only non-Asian there. Some teenagers tried to heckle her by talking to her in mandarin or Japanese. Emma spoke Swedish to them happily, as if she understood what they were saying and answered their questions. Wes laughed as he watched and suddenly felt a pair of arms around him. He grinned and turned to Tina.

"Hi Ti-Ti", he said.

"H-hi Wei", she said happily and kissed his cheek. "H-how have you b-been?"

Wes and Tina sat on a bench near the lake and talked about what had happened since they had met last. Mike and Tina had drifted apart so they barley spoke anymore. Tina hadn't even talked to him yet here at camp. It saddened Wes a little, but that's just how it is in life he figured. Tina had a new friend named Artie though. A boy that was in a wheelchair and actually was really sweet. Wes had to smirk because he recognized the signs of a crush when he saw them. Wes told her of everything he'd been through this year. Even the drunk incident and it had Tina laughing so much she nearly fell off the bench. Suddenly Wes saw him.

"Mai!" he called and waved. Mike looked in their direction but then hurried off with some other boys. Tina sighed.

"It's my fault", she said.

"What is?" Wes asked.

"H-he doesn't want to h-hang out with you b-because I'm here."

"Or maybe he has a crush on you and don't want to be near you because he's afraid of embarrassing himself."

"He doesn't even say hi to me in school anymore. A-a smile here or th-there is all… I can't u-understand it. We used to be so t-tight." She sighed. "I-I won't be a-able to stand the s-summer now that I'm all alone…"

Wes put his arm around her.

"You have me", he pointed out.

"N-not during class… How will I walk w-with my h-head held high amongst all these c-cute looking girls? I'm too d-different."

Wes bit his lip as he thought. Tina had always felt like a little sister to him and he always wanted to protect her and make sure she was safe. He also knew that Tina didn't really need it because she was a strong, independent girl that usually didn't let people push her around. She was strong. She just needed a boost he figured and then grinned.

"I know!" he said and got up and looked at her.

"W-what", she asked. Wes made a military salute, heals together and all before bowing slightly and holding his hand out to her. She took it and Wes helped her up singing as he lead her through the camp:

You're one of a kind, I can't explain it.
You're kind of cool, in a wonderful way.
Though you're weird, you can make it.
And who better than me to teach you.
Who better than me to set you on your way. (Mhm)

Now had this actually been on Glee we would've seen small clips where Wes and Tina danced or did things together as night started to fall over the camp.

This could take some hangin' in there – Wes patted her hand.

Though with persuasion I can take you on up
Make you grow up, beside the others
And who better than me to lead you
Who better than me to take you all the way (Hey hey hey yeah)

Tina laughed as Wes fell off the dock they were at and into the lake. She sat down on her knees so she was face to face with him.

Both: Struggling along for years and years

Wes: Until I came along for you
Now its all comin' together

Both: And together will see this through
You for me and me for you

Tina helped him up and both ran, hand in hand across the camp grounds.

Tina: I can learn, I can listen
I know there's something
Deep inside but
I need assistance to go the distance

Wes: And who better than me

Tina: To teach me

Wes: Who better than me

Tina: To tell me all you know

Wes: Who better than me

Tina: You reach me

Wes: Who better than me

Both: To show them all we know!

The duo had gotten quite the audience by now, in form of the younger kids and some counselors. Wes lead Tina to her cabin since it was getting late. She hugged him before leaving and Wes grinned happily. He was still dripping wet but that didn't matter. Tina was happy again and before he left the cabin he heard her tell some girls off for fooling around with her stuff and how they said:

"Yes ma'am!"

Wes laughed happily.
