Part 73

Wes found being an instructor strangely satisfying. He loved seeing how the kids' faces lit up with big smiles when they made a move right or got his approval of something. He also loved helping the kids develop their techniques and skill. Some were more skilled than others but that was to be expected. The hardest though was to "see" every student. He tried his best to see everyone, see what level they were at and what they needed to move on and such. It was hard and he didn't know how his teachers at Dalton managed to see almost all of their students. Sadly someone always slips through the cracks. Wes knew he had a few of those, but he didn't know who it was.

He was also having lots of fun with Tina. They hung out after classes and had a lot of fun. Tina told him everything about her day and about her friends back in Lima. They would go for walks in the forest or around the lake. They'd sit by the water and just talk or play with the younger kids. But both of them felt something, someone, missing. Mike was having fun, they could see it on him. But they still missed him. Wes wasn't hating him or being angry or disappointed. Friends grew apart sometimes, it was normal. He could understand. But there was one thing that pissed him off. Tina was getting bullied again and some of Mike's friends did it too. Mike would never do anything. That includes telling them to knock it off. Wes didn't understand that and it made him angry to have Mike just look away from her.

But something that Wes could actually do now if he caught the bullying was punishing the bullies… and how he enjoyed that. He and the grownups had lots of… creative punishment for bullying. Wes' personal favorite was having the culprits clean the out houses and pit toilets. He also enjoyed watching the bullies clean the animal pens because someone always fell into the… well you can figure that out yourselves.

But there was one more problem too. One of Tina's bullies. A girl named Kaitlin… had fallen hard for Wes. She would wait around for him everywhere. She'd try to tag along when he was meeting Tina, she tried to sit by him in the cafeteria and she "tripped" a lot so that Wes had to catch her. It was getting frustrating.

"I can't take it Ti-Ti", Wes groaned one evening when they were sitting on a grassy hill overlooking the lake. Well Tina was sitting and Wes was lying on his back in the grass.

"Is she stressing you out that much?" Tina asked carefully.

"Ti-Ti if I had the energy I would throw myself off this cliff and drown myself… just to get away from her."

"You know she'd probably follow you right? She'd tell everyone how it is almost just like in Swan Lake."

Wes glared at her and she grinned innocently.

"You'll be the unhappy swan-princess that will drown herself because her true love declared his undying love for another", Tina went on. "And she will be your true love who thought it was you he confessed his love too. Not being able to live without you she will drown herself to be with you forever and ever and ever and ever and ever and-"

"Shut up or I will throw you from the cliff", Wes threatened.

"You don't have the energy to do that", Tina said happily. Wes just groaned and covered his face with his arm. Tina lied down beside him and rested her head on his stomach.

"What should I do Ti-Ti?" Wes asked.

"How should I know?"

"You're a girl… tell me how to get rid of a girl."

"Well you could take a gun and-"

"Legally."

"You could make it look like an accident. You're smart enough."

"I am smart… but not psychotic…"

"She is so maybe you need to think like her to get rid of her."

"You mean fall in love with someone and never leave their side?"

"Basically yes."

"Well then we have another problem."

"What is that?"

"I'm not in love with anyone at the moment."

"There's lots of girls here!"

"Other than the grownups and you none of them are bearable."

"There must be someone!"

"Ti-Ti…"

"Oh… you're right there isn't anyone… guess you're doomed."

"Okay that's it!" Wes got up and Tina tried to run but Wes was faster. He caught her around the middle and walked to the edge of the cliff. Tina laughed and shrieked while protesting. But Wes ignored her and jumped into the lake with her anyway.

Turned out that Wes didn't have to use an elaborate more or less criminal tactic to get rid of this girl. She took crazy to another level and that crazy got her into trouble with the big guns… even though the big guns in this case was rather skinny and not the tallest person around… well taller than most of the women and girls. But Wes was thankful all the same.

Kaitlin had decided that she wanted a lock of his hair so she was going to sneak into his room and steal one. The only problem with that was that all the grownups slept in the same big room this year, due to some water damage. She hadn't realized it would be so hard to find Wes in the dark amongst a lot of other guys with black hair… she hadn't realized there were girls there too and she hadn't realized one bed was empty when she entered. She looked around and thought she found the right person. She snuck up to the bed and raised the scissors. Then she screamed in pain.

The light was turned on as all the grownups and elder teens startled awake.

"What on Earth is going on?!" Nina shrieked and stared up at the teenage girl standing above her with a pair of scissors, screaming. Emma was standing behind her, holding her ear tightly.

"I caught this little girl trying to cut your hair off Nina", she said.

"I did not!" Kaitlin yelled.

"You were standing above her bed with a pair of scissors."

"It wasn't intended for Nina ow!" Emma had twisted her ear a little.

"Then what are you doing here", Nina asked angrily. "Is this a new mean sort of prank."

"No it wasn't meant for you Nina", Kaitlin wailed. "It was meant for someone else!"

"Who", Emma asked sharply.

"One of the boys… ow!"

"Why", Lisa asked angrily.

"I wanted his hair because I like him!"

"That's a sad excuse", Jerry said. "Who was it then?"

Kaitlin looked between the grownups. She didn't want to tell them that she was going to take Wes' hair because everyone would hear about it and think she was weird.

"Okay okay", she said. "I was going to cut off Emma's hair!"

Wes noticed how Jerry looked like a storm cloud, Emma looked shocked and everyone else disgusted or angry.

"That is assault!" Lisa exploded and grabbed the girl by the wrist and dragged her out of the room. "Your ass will be out of here now!" Nina followed, she was in charge after all. When everyone else had left or gone back to bed Emma whispered to Wes:

"Your head is safe."

Wes grinned happily and Emma turned to Jerry.

"I've always wanted to do that", she squealed and Jerry chuckled and hugged her close. Wes just blinked but then he laughed… and was told to shut up so people could sleep.

After that not much more happened. Kaitlin was kicked out of Asian Camp and told to never return. Everyone of the kids thought it was because how she had been treating Tina so they left Tina alone. Wes was amused by this and Tina happy. The rest of the summer went by in only happy days for her after that and for Wes. But he had one thing left to do before he headed back to Dalton and he was going to address it now.

"Michael Robert Chang!" Wes yelled as he stormed towards the group of boys that were hanging out by the parking lot. Said boys all jumped and those that weren't the ones being called for by full name ran as fast as they could to get away from the angry martial arts instructor. Michael Robert Chang, didn't dare move a muscle. When they were alone Wes glared at him.

"Okay you have approximately two minutes before your parents get here to tell me what the hell your problem is", Wes growled. "Why haven't you been standing up for Tina?"

Mike looked at his feet in shame.

"I… was afraid I'd lose my new friends", he mumbled. "They finally like me here and… I'm sorry. I wanted to stand up for her more times than one but I was too chicken… We haven't talked since last summer basically because we hang out with different people. I text her sometimes and she texts me but that's all."

"And you think that's a good enough reason for letting her get bullied?"

"She had you didn't she? Besides that stopped."

"Yeah and not thanks to you."

"I know that Wes but what do you want me to do?!"

"Tell her you're sorry and talk to her every now and then. Make sure she's okay at school or at least make sure no one is mean to her."

"I'll try I promise", Mike said and nodded hurriedly. "Next year all three of us will be great friends again! I'm gonna be a counselor next year!"

"Yeah I heard", Wes said and smiled. "In dancing, I thought you said you never danced outside of your room."

"Well… this is like home to me during the summer so I can be who I want to be. And Tina is gonna teach singing so all three of us can have a blast again!"

"We sure can. Look Mike take care of yourself and Tina alright? Don't let anyone push either of you around."

"I will do my best."

Both boys hugged before parting ways until the next summer. Wes sat in his car and drove back to Westerville, back to Dalton and to his new life as chairman of the Warblers.

TBC Sorry for the long wait, it's been a rough couple of weeks for me. I got hit bad with the flu and had no energy for another week... and I couldn't figure out what to write at all...
