Yeaaaaah, sorry about being a little...absent for a while. Been busy with life catching up with me. But here a token on my apologies and please don't hunt me down and kill me. Oh and for any of you going to the Anime convention in Wichita KS next weekend, see you there ;). I'll be dressed as Squad leader Hanji Zoe from Attack on Titan, and if I go twice (currently only planning on going Saturday), Sunday: I'll most likely be dressed as Edward Elric from FMA. Hope some of you show up ^^.
Chapter Five
A small red fox plushy was currently running around the perimeter of a tall barbwire fence, checking for any breaks in the links or if there was a whole big enough for him to slip through. Red the Fox Gikongan panted as he pushed the little stuffed body to find a way inside.
It had been nearly two months since Danny had been taken by the Guys in White. Two months that Red had been searching on foot to try and locate which facility they were currently holding the teen captive in. And that wasn't easy considering how small he was. Some of his stitching had ripped a little and his once vibrant red coat was now a dark shade in comparison due to all the dirt and grime that now covered him.
But he knew that he needed to find Danny. He only hoped that the teen had managed to hold out for this long, having heard stories about what the GIW do to their specimens.
There!
Red skidded to a stop when he saw what looked like to be a small hole dug under the fence to the other side. Looked like something a rabbit made. Red looked around before he crawled under the wire and slinked his way onto the other side, careful to avoid touching the fence in case it was charged with something that hurt spirits.
Once his tail cleared the hole, Red forced out a grin and turned back to the building ahead. He could sense Danny's Spiritual pressure coming from inside. The thing that scared him the most was how weak it was. The normally bright flame that used to flicker proudly was now nothing but a small withered spark that seemed to be fighting to stay lit.
Red crouched down low to the grass and ran stealthily towards to structure that was hiding his Soul Reaper friend behind them. He made it to the side of the building and prowled along the wall, looking for a way to get inside. He then spotted a tiny air duct at the base near the ground. Red studied it for a moment to see with glee that the screws holding it in place was rusted and already half way out, due to the elements it was exposed to.
Red placed his plush paws and teeth onto the grate, and tugged, ripping violently at it to try and get it loose and let him in. After fighting with it for a few agonizing minutes, he managed to free three of the four screws holding it down, letting it slide open, dangling by its last screw.
Red leaped through the opening and started to run silently through the metal tunnels, following Danny's faint spiritual pressure. He weaved through the maze of tunnels for a few minutes till he stopped, feeling the teen's presence right below him. He then walked over to the nearest grate that would allow him to see outside the metal trap he was inside of. He looked down to see a clean hallway, polished white- of course- and cell doors every few feet. Red listed, trying to see if he could hear anyone coming or if someone might be out there. Hearing nothing but eerie silence, Red pushed on the grate, feeling it move forward. He pushed again, and when it came loose, about to fall to the ground 8 feet below, he grasped it in his mouth and maneuvered it into the tunnel. He then leaped out of the air duct, and landed on the smooth floor, sliding a bit before he came to a stop.
He twisted his head and flicked his ears, listening. Still clear. He then turned and raced towards where Danny's energy was coming from, and slide through the bars of the cell. Once he entered the room, he froze, seeing a mop of dirty black, unwashed hair attached to a bloody body, lying still on the floor, back to him.
Red slowly moved forward. "Danny?" he whispered, trying to get the teens attention. But he got no response. He moved closer and placed the soft paws on the boy shoulder, moving it with small shakes. "Danny, wake up. It's me, Red."
There was a soft groan and one blue eye blinked open. "Red?" his voiced rasped, as if from overuse- probably screaming.
Red gave him a fox like smile. "Yeah. I'm here to help ya get out."
Danny blinked both eyes open and focused on the red figure on his shoulder. When he saw that it was Red, and not some hallucination that his mind might have come up with, he grinned weakly. "Oh man, am I glad to see you." Danny whispered.
Red chuckled and jumped in front of him. "Come on. Take my pill and let's blow this pop stand, eh?"
Danny smiled and reached out to ruffle the foxes head and ears playfully. "Yeah. I'm with ya there, buddy." Danny then rolled over some to he could push himself up to his knees. Red gapped at the blood on the front of his shirt. It was old, but still there.
"What the hell did they do to you?!"
"Dissections." Danny murmured, almost automatically. If Red had skin right now, it would have been pale, bordering on green.
"Shit. All the more reason to get ya out of here. Come on, your Soul Reaper body will be able to handle this better than your human one." Red said, standing up on all fours, a determined look on his face. "How's Tōshō?"
Danny smiled. "Bouncing off the wall's now that you're here."
Red grinned proudly before nodding his head. "Alright, ready when you are. We don't have all day."
Danny nodded, and reached out to grab the plushy and reaching down its throat, pulling out the Gikongan pill. Not wasting any time in popping it into his mouth. He felt the familiar feeling of being shoved out of his body and turned to see he was in Soul Reaper form. Bad news was that all the wounds had transferred over to this form as well, but now Danny had a slightly higher pain tolerance for it. He could feel the freshly healing scabs of the vivisection scar and other minor injuries on his body, the skin pulling at the movement.
He turned when he heard Red gasp, crippling and curling up, not used to the pain. Danny felt bad, so he reached out and grabbed him by the front of his shirt, hauling his human body up, forcing Red to straighten up through the pain. "W-What are y-ya doing?" Red rasped, blue eyes hazy form the pain.
"I'm not leaving you behind." Danny said firmly, then cocked his fist back and slammed it as hard as he could, adding a little spiritual energy behind the blow to boost it, right into his human body's gut. Red cried out on a gag, eyes rolled back as a green pill was forced back out through his mouth.
Danny picked it up and stuffed it inside the fox toy again. Red coughed and sputtered in Danny's grasp before glaring up at the teen. "Ya coulda warned me ya were gonna to pull somethin' like that." The plushy pouted.
Danny sighed softly, looking tired. "I know, but I don't want to waste any more time." He turned on a dime, drew Tōshō from his sheath, feeling the familiar weight of it in his hands once more. He then grasped it tightly. "Freeze all Enemies…Tōshō!" Danny yelled, letting his blade morph. Once the change was complete, Danny forced energy into the white steel and swung it in an arc "Hyōno Arashi!" The energy wave slammed into the wall of the cell, exploding in a burst of ice and energy. He could now hear sirens blaring loudly, but he ignored them and tucked Red into his side, and leaped out of the hole he made, sending a few more arcs of Hyōno to clear a path, making his own exit, leaving his human body behind.
He could hear men shouting behind him, slicing through the next wall. He could feel the strain on his weakened body, pulling at the wounds that have yet to fully heal, but he still pushed forward. As the dust cleared from his last attack, He could see the outside world, a strangle cry of happiness escaped his throat, pushing towards it. He reached the fresh air, and, without hesitation, forced his energy into his feet, pushing himself into the air. When he started losing momentum several dozen yards up, he stepped down again and repeated the action, till he was far away from the base. He then turned to the sunset and moved, clinging to Red in one hand and Tōshō in the other. He pushed out a few more long distance leaps, leaving the facility as a mere memory behind him. He then allowed himself to descend to the ground below, nearly collapsing for energy exhaustion when his feet touched down. He sat down on the soft grass of the forest he hand landed in, tanking in huge gulps of air that he body craved.
"You did it, Daniel." Tōshō's relieved voice responded form his Inner World.
Danny shook his head and gave a tired smile. "No…we did it." He said out loud and looked at Red. He ruffled the foxes head slightly. "Thank you…so much, Red. If it weren't for you or Tōshō …I don't think I would have made it." the teen whispered, before he sighed and pulled his knees up to his chest. "But…now what do we do? We can't go back to Amity…so what's left? Traveling?" Danny asked.
After a moment of silence, Tōshō spoke up. "Do you still have that Soul Pager that that 'Urahara' guy gave you?"
Danny blinked before reaching inside of his shihakusho, and searched before pulling out the white and blue flip phone. "Yeah." Danny said, while Red stayed silent, knowing Danny was talking with his Zanpakuto.
"Could you call him? He said if you ever needed help with anything, to give him a call. His number was already programmed in it, right?"
Danny looked at the phone for a long moment before nodded. "Alright. I might not completely trust the guy, but he's the best shot we've got. That man's a Wild Card at this point. We don't know if he will help us, or hinder us." Danny said. He then flipped the phone open and searched the contacts for Urahara. He found it and paused his thumb over the call button for a few seconds, before pressing it, gut twisting in nerves.
He turned his head and brought it up to his ear, listening to the ring. After a few more rings that was click and a loud joyful voice came from the other side.
"Oi, Moshi moshi, Kore wa Urahara Kisuke no hanasu desu!" the voiced called happily. *
Danny blinked, but even though he had no idea what was said, he recognized the voice and heard 'Urahara Kisuke' mentioned, so he figured he had it right.
"Uh…hello? Mr. Urahara…is Danny Fenton…from Amity Park in-"
"Ah the Soul Reaper in America, yes?" the voice said, having switched to English.
Danny swallowed and nodded, before remember that the man couldn't see it. "Y-yeah…I was wondering…if I could ask a favor?"
"Weeell sure, kiddo! What's the situation?"
Danny sighed and rubbed a hand through his dirty hair. "I'm…in a spot of trouble…and I need to leave Amity Park, maybe even leave America."
"That bad, eh?" the man's once cheerful voice turned somewhat serious. "What happened?"
Danny swallowed and took a shuddered breath, trying to form the words to say. "I…don't want to talk about it right now, Mr. Urahara. But I was hoping you could help me out. You said if I ever need your help, to give you a call…and right now you the only other option available for me."
There was a long drawn out hum on the other side of the line as the man seemed to think about it.
Danny closed his eyes. "Please." He begged, stressing out the word.
The man sighed and gave a cheerful chuckled. "Alright, when you ask like that, Fenton-san, I'll help." Danny gave a relieved sigh, sagging as if a weight had been lifted from his shoulders. "Be out in Amity Park's park at exactly midnight tonight- your time. I'll have someone I know and trust with my life there to pick you up and bring you here."
Danny tilted his head slightly- confused. "Where is 'here' Mr.-"
"Bye now!" click.
Danny pulled the phone away from his ear when he heard it disconnect- staring down at it. "He just hung up on me…" Danny stated, dumbfounded.
Red twitched one of his large ears. "But he did say' yes', didn't he?" Danny nodded. "Then don't be so upset."
Danny sighed, and stuffed the cell phone back in his Shihakusho. "Yeah, guess you're right." He then pushed himself up, groaning slightly as his muscles protested. "Well, let's get moving. We have a few hours till we have to be at the park in Amity. He said he would be sending someone to pick me up." Danny said. "But I have no idea which direction Amity is."
Red smiled up at him and leaped up, climbing across Danny's chest till he was perched on the teens shoulder. "I remember the way." He informed with a relaxed grin.
Danny looked at Red with gratefulness. "You really are a life saver, Red." He said as he sheathed Tosho on his back, before taking a massive leap into the air, before forming a solid platform of reishi beneath his feet so he stood on air. "Which way?"
Red pointed his nose to their right. "That way. As the crow flies."
Danny raised an eyebrow and glanced at the mod soul. "You sure?" he asked, even though he had already started bounding in that direction.
Red nodded, puffing out his furry little chest with pride. "Of course! Ya dare doubt my awesome directional memory?" he boasted with a mocking scandalized tone.
Danny laughed- truly laughed for the first time in nearly two whole months. He could even hear Tōshō chuckling in his mind, also amused by the gikongan's antics. The banter between the three of them (Danny playing as the interpreter for Tōshō's comments) for a few more minutes till they settled into comfortable silence. Finally, after thirty minutes of leaping through the air, they could finally see the city district of Amity Park showing up in the distance. The sun had already set, so they could only see the light illuminating his former home as he grew closer. Feeling his energy draining, he lowered them to the ground, planning on walking the rest of the way so he could recollect whatever energy he lost.
He then walked towards the town, breaking out of the tree line and moving deeper into his old territory. He moved as silently as he could, knowing he couldn't be seen by the humans, but he didn't want to risk the chance of running into his former loved ones- who he knew would be able to see him, so he stuck to the shadows.
Danny finally came to a stop as Amity's park came into view. He looked around before moving quickly and tiredly towards the shadows of the tree's to hide.
Danny had noticed the amount of damage the once proud town was now taking since he had been captured. He as spotted a few newspapers as he made his way to where he was now, and saw that there had already been a few deaths. No one he knew, but it still bothered him that they would rather put up with needless deaths rather than let him, a half Soul Reaper- former half ghost- protect them.
He quickly shook his mind out of those thoughts, his dull blue eyes hardening as he leapt into tree to wait in its branches, in case someone or something came by. Out of sight, out of mind. It was astounding how often nobody ever looked up.
Danny reached into his shihakusho and pulled out the Soul Pager to check the time. It was only eleven at night, so he still had an hour left to burn off.
He contemplated going around the town and destroy some things- just to spite the people, but he thought better of it, and instead closed it eyes, intending to take a nap to wait it out. He could feel Red's weight on his lap at the fox plushy nodded off into his own nap. Danny relaxed into the branch, and cleared out his mind to try and prevent any nightmares that might try to grab him for the short time.
It didn't feel like that much later when there was a poke on his temple. At first, Danny simply groaned and shifted his face away from the object of his disturbance, but when the pokes continued, getting more insistent, he finally cracked a bleary eye open.
He looked up into amused golden eyes on black fur. "Huh?" Danny asked, waking up to see a black cat had joined him up in the tree. Ignoring the cat for a second, he pulled out the cell and checked the time.
Crying out with dismay, he threw himself out of the tree when he noticed it was already past midnight. Not by much, but a few minutes was certainly enough time to miss his ticket away from this hell hole.
His sudden dismissal from the tree also threw Red and the cat out with him. Red screamed on his way down to the ground landing in a dusty heap, while the cat simply twisted gracefully in midair and landed lightly on all fours. The action of the felines movements, made the teen pause and glance at it with confusion. He knew the old saying that cats always land on their feet, by that just wasn't natural with how this feline did it.
Danny stared at the cat wearily before looking around again. "Hello?" he called, hoping that whoever it was that had been sent to pick him up was still here.
"It's only me here…and you little Gikongan friend." A deep masculine voice said, making the teen jump and look around.
"Where are you?"
"Man, this never gets old." Danny turned towards to the amused sound, only to be looking at the black cat. It then lifted its paw and waved. "Hello. I am Yoruichi, friend of Urahara Kisuke. You must be Mr. Danny Fenton, yes?" he said with a Japanese accent lacing his words as well.
Danny's eyes grew wider and wider as the cat spoke, but slowly nodded. "Y-yeah….that's…that me."
Red finally managed to pick himself up off the ground and shake, getting some of the loose dirt off of his fur. "Dude! That was totally uncalled for!" he yelled, turning to Danny, completely ignoring the now amused talking cat.
Danny looked sheepishly over at Red. "Sorry. But this cat…uhh…Yoruichi-" ,Danny slowly spoke the name to make sure he pronounced it correctly, receiving a nod from the cat in approval- "woke me up and I realized just how late it was…."
Red huffed and glanced over at the cat then blinked. "Yoruichi? Picking up more strays, Danny?" Red teased.
Danny pouted. "Hey! I do not pick up strays! Cujo just wouldn't stop following me around! It's not my fault that the little ghost dog took a liking to me!"
The cat snorted then stood up and walked over towards them. "So Danny's the type to pick up random strays, is he?" the cat said, making Red gawk at him. "Sadly enough, I'm not a stray. Name's Yoruichi Shihoin, friend of Urahara Kisuke."
Red looked like he was about to faint dead on the spot. "A…talking cat?"
Danny, even though he too was freak out, couldn't help the little jab. "Oh- and talking stuffed animals aren't just as bad?"
Red paused and shot the teen a glare, but didn't comment. Yoruichi chuckled and waved the tail around calmly. "Now, if you are ready, I do believe you have a meeting with Kisuke, yes?" he asked, looking pointedly at Danny.
Danny nodded slowly. "Yeah…lead the way."
The cat then turned and started bounding away towards the tree line. "Come. The gateway is this way. It won't stay open much longer."
Danny and Red shared a look before following after the talking feline. Once they reached the darkness of the tree's, Danny could now see what looked like old Japanese style doors that was open, just standing in the middle of the clearing.
Danny came to a stop and stared. "What…what is that?"
Yoruichi paused as well and smiled back at the teen. 'It's called a Senkimon. They general lead to the Soul Society, but Kisuke managed to make one that lead between his shop and this park. One of the pleasures of having an inventor and scientist as a friend." he purred.
Danny, thinking about his parents, quickly clammed up and his eyes darkened. Red saw the reaction and shook his head wildly at the cat's direction, silently telling him to change the subject. Yoruichi noticed and stared at the teen curiously before nodding.
"No matter, let's go. No matter what you do, just don't stop running." The cat warned before charging in the glowing white entrance of the doorway. Danny scooped up Red and placing him on his shoulder before chasing after their guide.
Once through the gate, Danny looked around and noticed that the ground was like a rock road but the walls was covered in a purple liquid that ran down the side, reminding him of molasses. He then spotted Yoruichi running up ahead, keeping to the middle of the trail. When he turned his head, Danny found out why.
"Don't let the stuff on the walls touch you! If it does, you'll be stuck hear till the cleaner comes through! And you don't want that!"
Danny had no idea what the 'cleaner' was, but swallowed and followed the cat's example, staying to the center of the road. They ran in silence for a little while, Danny starting to feel the fatigue coming on, but forced himself to push forward, remember the other warning he received before entering this place. Don't stop running.
Finally, a light appeared at the other end of the tunnel, and Yoruichi picked up his speed, signally Danny to do the same. Danny did so and soon his vision was filled with the white light before it cleared, and he was then standing in the middle of a small and empty parking lot like space, a little shop right in front of him.
Yoruichi then started walking towards the shop, so Danny followed him silently, wondering just where they were at. The sun was high in the sky so is was around midday…but it was just a little past midnight where they were just at, much to Danny confusion. As they came up to the front steps, the door slid wide open, startling Danny for a split second into grabbing Tōshō's hilt. When he realized that it was the man that gave him Red and the Soul Pager- Urahara Kisuke, he relaxed and released his blade, instead turning to look at the man wearily.
"Ah! Danny-san!" the man cried joyously in his thick accent. "I was wondering if you were going to show up at all."
"He almost didn't." Yoruichi informed. "When I showed up, I didn't see anyone so I was about to leave, but then I noticed a small spark of Spiritual Energy and I looked up towards to source to see this boy asleep in a tree. He would be good for the Stealth force." The cat said with a hint of amusement.
Danny blinked while the pair looked back at him. Urahara hummed softly. "Yes…you energy is very weak compared to what it used to be. There are only a few things that could force his energy down like that. Most of them aren't very good." He then smiled widely once more. "But, for the time being, let's get you inside so you can clean up and eat. You look like you haven't had a proper bath and meal in a long time."
"I haven't." Danny told them, but followed them inside, making sure to take his sandal like shoes off at the door after seeing Urahara motion to do so. Danny trailed inside, seeing that the front portion of the building was indeed a store with shelves and racks around the open space.
"Please, let's go to the back." Urahara said before disappearing behind another sliding door at the back of the store. Danny moved to catch up, and followed the man down a hallway. The man then stopped by a single sliding door. "This will be your temporary room for right now. We don't have anything fancy like you Americans have, but it should still be comfortable enough."
Danny blinked curiously at the man, doubting his words. "I doubt it could be worse than what the Guy in White had me staying in." the teen said, ignoring the confused look the blonde gave him, sliding the door open carefully to look inside. The room was small and somewhat empty, maybe 18'x18' but it was about the size of Danny's old room in Amity Park. The floor was a clean and polished wood and an open window that allowed the sunlight to enter and brighten the room, giving it a welcoming atmosphere.
He stepped farther inside and noticed some sheets and pillow folded neatly in a corner on top of a folding mad. He guessed that was what he would be using to sleep on.
At least Urahara is giving him sheets and a pillow.
Danny turned and gave Urahara a small smile. "Thanks, this is fine." Red then jumped down from his perch on Danny's shoulder and headed over to the window.
The man pulled out his fan and covered the bottom half of his face with it. "Glad to meet your expectations once more, Mr. Fenton-san."
"Call me Danny, please. I can't stand that formality stuff."
The man chuckled and snapped the fan shut. "As you wish Danny-san. Now let me show you to the bath room."
Danny gave the man a deadpanned looked for ignoring his request, but was then led to a very nice bathroom that looked like it had a small pool for a bathtub with a towel and toiletries already placed by the tub. "While you are getting clean, I will be making some food for you to eat, so take a long as you would like. I'm going to need to make a lot- because Yoruichi eats a lot of food, believe it or not, so take as long as you need."
Danny turned and smiled back at the man. "Thanks, again. This is way more than I was expecting."
The man waved his hand and hid his eyes under the brim of his hat. "It's no problem, Danny-san. But we will be talking once you're finished and you come out to eat. If you want me to be able to help you properly, I need to know what happened so I can know what I'm working with."
Danny winced but nodded slowly. "Alright. I … I owe you that much." He said, turning away and went ahead to start taking his Shihakusho off for the bath. He heard to door slide shut behind him a few seconds later, leaving him alone.
Urahara stood on the other side of the closed door, thinking. It had been nearly three whole months since he had last seen and spoken to the American teen, and he had been expecting to do so sooner. Lots sooner.
He then started making his way to where Yoruichi was waiting- now back in her human form, fully clothed and humming silently to herself.
"So, what do you think of the boy?" Urahara asked, all seriousness.
The cocoa colored women looked at the man, yellow eyes hard. "I think he's been through hell. Those eyes. I've only seen Ichigo with eyes like that- after hard fought battles and death." She paused for a moment. "But when I said he would be good for the Stealth corps, I was serious. He power was greatly cut down than I knew he could hold, but I also think a portion of it was due to subconsciously hiding it to avoid being found. You said he knew that only spiritually aware humans could see or feel him, so for him to do that; must mean he believed he was deep in enemy territory." She observed thoughtfully.
Urahara nodded and moved to sit at the table in front of her. "I agree. And even after being here, it was still closed up tight. The boy's scared. Very scared. He wasn't like this when I meet him three months ago. He was very bubbly and bright, full of life and energy. He eyes were still hard, but not like they are now. I only hope we can learn what happened to him."
Yoruichi nodded and looked back up at him, a teasing light in her golden eyes. "Aren't you supposed to be making food for the boy?"
Urahara grinned, the seriousness in his body leaving once more for the playful banter. "Oh, I have Ururu and Jinta helping Tensei with the cooking."
Yoruichi rolled her eyes. "I don't think you pay them enough for be making so much food. Especially with how much I eat. Maybe you should give them a pay raise." She teased.
Urahara laughed as they engaged in the wits and banter that seemed never ending for those two- until Urahara finally lost nearly thirty minutes later.
That was the scene Danny walked into once he was cleaned and dressed back in his shihakusho, even though it still had some small spots of blood on it from his injuries, dark hair still damp from the bath. He looked between the smirking dark skinned female and the pouting and slouching Urahara.
Urahara quickly brightened once he saw Danny. "Danny-san! Please, sit, sit! The food should be ready in a few minutes!"
Danny moved to sit and was staring at Yoruichi carefully. Not knowing that she was the cat from before. "I didn't even sense some else show up." He commented slightly.
"That's because no one else did show up Danny. This is Yoruichi, in human form."
Danny blinked, startled. "But…but the cat sounded like a male!"
Yoruichi winked. "Adds more to the disguise. Pretty cool, eh?
Danny stared before sighing. "And here I thought nothing would be able to surprise me anymore. Guess you learn something new every day."
Soon the food came in the form of rice and noodles of all kinds, even a few plates of various kinds of meats that got Danny's mouth watering and stomach growling. They let the teen have first pick of the food, and was surprised by how much the teen was eating, proving that the teen had been starved.
Urahara tossed a smirk at Yoruichi. "I think you have competition at the table."
Yoruichi chuckled before grabbing her own plate and chop sticks. Urahara then turned back to Danny, who was on his third bowl of food. "So, Danny." He said- dropping the 'san', his playful act not needed at the time. "Mind sharing what happened?"
Danny paused with the fork, happy they had some because he didn't know how to use chopsticks- half way to his mouth with the next bite. He then slowly lowered it back down and sighed. "Yeah. I kinda figured you weren't going to forget." Danny said softly. He then reached up to rub his hair nervously, causing the damp strands to stick everywhere. "I guess I should start from the beginning…after you first found me and my friends that day three months ago…"
Both Urahara and Yoruichi listened intently as Danny told the story about how had fought the Hollows and ghost that attacked his town and how he had noticed that he friends were growing more distant from him as time went on. He told them about the fight with Vlad –causing Urahara to listen more closely- and that his friends had apparently witnessed the loss of control. Then how his friends turned him over to his ghost hunting parents who called the Guys in White, a government owned corporation of ghost hunters. How he was then captured and dragged to one of their facilities where they experimented on him (not going into too much detail, but enough to know the gist of what happened), and after two month, just hours ago, Red found him and helped him escape, leaving his human body behind- hoping they would think he was dead and stop looking for him. He highly doubted that though, with how much damage he had done.
At the end of the story, Danny was now poking as his cold bowl of food, still hungry, but no longer sure if he would be able to keep it down if he tried to eat anymore.
Urahara's head was bowed, eyes hidden in the shadows under his hat, while Yoruichi looked like she just ate something that didn't settle right with her. Danny refused to look at them, wondering what they would think of a government fugitive- not that he deserved it.
After several moments of silence, Danny growing more and more nervous, twitching as the smallest of sounds- feeling like he was about to bolt from fear.
"Weeell." Urahara drawled slowly. "There can only be two options that we can offer you right now." Urahara said, forcing Danny to mentally move on guard as his muscles tensed for a fight. Prepared to dive for Tōshō who was propped against the wall a few feet away.
"One…you can stay here in the World of the Living and continued your high school education and life in this lovely town here…" he said, making Danny pause and study the man. "Or two…you can go to the Soul Society and train to become a proper Soul Reaper." He then peaked and eye out from under his hat, smiling softly. "Your choice."
Danny swallowed and thought for a moment before asking another question. "Where exactly is 'here'?"
Urahara blinked with fake confusion. "Why, Urahara's Shop of course! I thought you knew that."
Danny deadpanned. "I meant 'here here'."
Urahara grinned. "Oohh! I see what you mean now! You are currently in Karakura, Japan!"
The teen's eyes almost popped out of his head and rolled away. "J-Japan?!"
"Uh huh, Japan! A lovely country. And," he dragged out. "I do believe this might be the last place that these Guy's in White people will try to look for you- if they are looking for you."
Now that gave Danny something to think about. The teen stopped and looked around to think. "But…I don't even understand the language." Danny pointed out slowly.
Urahara grinned. "Then I'll make a gigai that does!"
"Gigai?"
"Yup! A gigai is a fake body that a Soul Reaper can inhabit while they are in the World of the Living and need to interact with the locals! I could make you one that will understand Japanese, and help you learn it as you go, so eventually you won't need the crutch!"
Danny blinked at the ingenuity of the idea. "Wow." After a moment and a lot of internal debating, and Tōshō adding in a few supporting idea's, Danny turned to the man and smiled. "I think I would like to stay here, in Karakura..." he said slowly, testing the name on his tongue with a small smile at his success.
Urahara clapped excitedly. "Lovely! Let see what we can do to help you get settled in!"
