Chapter Six

Danny had been staying in Urahara shop, inside the spare bedroom they let him use for almost three days while Danny rested and healed, while Urahara forged documents and got them submitted into the Citizenship Department to get him a permanent Visa so he could stay in Japan – how he managed to do that, Danny had no idea and wasn't complaining. After that, Urahara started looking at apartments that Danny would need, saying that they had enough 'freeloaders' there and didn't need anymore. Danny accepted, not wanting to be a bother to those helping him.

Finally, four days into Danny's time in Japan and getting used to the time change, everything was set and he was ready to start his new life in Karakura.

Danny couldn't help but smile at the thought.

Danny was now situated in his new gigai, following Urahara to where his new apartment complex he would be living at. Red was snuggled up in the hood of Danny's red hoodie, snoring away right in Danny's ear. Not that he minded. He still owed Red his life for helping him to escape the GIW. So he was content to let the gikongan fox plushy sleep to his heart's content, snoring or not.

Danny listened and watched the sights around him, amused and pleased that when he passed by a couple of people, he could understand everything they were saying. It was still Japanese, but the gigai acted like a filter and once the sounds reached his ears his mind seemed to quickly know what they were talking about and allowed Danny to understand. Also Danny could only speak in Japanese while in the gigai unless he actively tried to speak in English. Danny could only describe the experience in a handful of words.

Awesome and weird were the main choices he could pick from at the moment. But it allowed Danny to learn the language as he went. He already knew a few words and phrases due to the experience, and that pleased him.

Danny had then asked what about Soul Reaper form, because he won't have the gigai to help him translate, so Urahara handed him a small metal band and strapped it around his neck, reminding him of an animal collar. He said that it will help him to speak and understand while in that form, but it only had a month worth of time on it, so he would need to come back after a month to get it replaced unless he fully learned Japanese by then, which was highly unlikely.

"Well, Danny-san! Here's your new home!" the bubbly shop keeper said, pointing with his cane towards the three story building in front of him. "Your home is on the third floor, two bedrooms and one bath, with a kitchen and a living room. Small and simple, but if you ever want to upgrade; that's all on you and your money from this point forward." He then handed Danny a set of keys and a slip of paper. "Your apartment number is 314. Enjoy!" then he turned and walked away, humming a happy tone.

Danny sighed and made his way up to the third floor and located his door. Once found, Danny slid one of the two keys into the lock and opened it, stepping in.

Danny was surprised when he found that the place was already furnished and there were some simple foods stored away. He walked around the building and learned where everything was, and where his master bedroom might be. It had a decent sized dresser and a full sized bed. There was also a walk in closet and an open window with clean light blue curtain that fluttered in the breeze created by the open window. Danny walked over to the bed and dropped down on the forest green comforter.

The movement jostled the sleeping Red, who then peaked out of the hood to look around with sleepy eyes. When he noticed they were already at the apartment, his eyes brightened and he leaped out of the hood and tore out of the room to explore.

Danny smiled faintly as his gikongan and friend. He then laid back and stared at the ceiling, before remembering the piece of paper that Urahara had given him with the keys. He pulled it out of his pocket and turned it over to read.

Dear Danny-san,

I got you the set of keys for a reason- one for your gigai/Red if he happens to be in it, and one for your Soul Reaper form. Soul Reapers do have a skill to walk through walls, but it takes some manipulation of you Spiritual Energy, and figured the key would be good if you're in a spot of trouble- or if you want to give it to a friend. Also, you will be attending your first day of Karakura High tomorrow morning starting at 8am. So don't forget or be late! School uniforms are in the bottom shelf of your dresser.

Your humble Shop Keeper,

Urahara Kisuke

Danny stared at it for a moment before he flopped his head back onto the mattress to resume looking at the white ceiling. So tomorrow starts my first day of school in Japan, eh? This should be interesting. Urahara had given him some of the basic lessons on Japanese formality and stuff during his stay with the help of Yoruichi – who mostly focused on how to properly try to woo pretty women, which he promptly shut her out with embarrassment at that point, leaving the room.

Danny learned a lot for Tensei on some simple kido spells. Danny was alright with them, if they didn't blow up in his face first. But once he got it down, he learned it was just like his ghost powers and he quickly was able to prevent them from exploding and had good control over them. His favorite so far was Hado number 33: Sokatsui. He seemed to have better control over the Hadō spells than the Bakudo. Probably because he was used to using his ghost powers to attack, not bind or block- save for his shield.

Danny rolled over and pushed up, getting of the bed and walking over to the window. He was pleased to have gotten a top floor room, for he now had a good view on the outside world.

He looked out the window for a few minutes before leaving to go and join Red on his exploration of their new home. He just hoped the little fox hadn't gotten himself stuck or trapped. He knew foxes were curious creatures, but he didn't think the little gikongan would take it so literal. Or, perhaps he was naturally curious and Danny just happened to pick a good mascot for him.

Danny found his plushy friend in the kitchen, searching the top cabinets and the food and anything else that might be stored up there.

"Find anything interesting, Red?" Danny asked, walking over to the fridge and opening it, looking for something to drink. He spotted a case of bottled water in the back and pulled one out.

Red's fluffy red tail was swinging out of the overhead cabinets as he searched. "Nothing really. Well, nothing dangerous if that's what ya asking." Red said, moving so he peak over at Danny, "Just things ya would find in anyone's house."

Danny smiled and nodded as he took a sip of the cool water as he leaned against the kitchen counter top. "That's good. I'm going to school tomorrow morning, so do you want to stay here, or go with me? "

Red's eyes widened. "Going. So, totally going with ya!"

Danny grinned behind the bottle as he took another sip. "Good. This means I'll have both you and Tōshō to talk to throughout the day. Only I won't be able to talk to you with people around."

Danny paused when he felt a cool breath leave his throat and exit out of his mouth. "Damn, here too!?" Danny sighed and glanced at Red who look depressed, not at the hollow, but that fact that the teen was going to have to reach down his throat to get his pill.

"Go ahead, Mr. Soul Reaper."

Danny gave an apologetic smile. "Sorry…again." Danny then quickly retrieved the pill, using it to disconnect form his gigai. "Alright, stay safe, I'll be back shortly." Danny then ran out the front door, before leaping into the air off the third floor. Danny tracked the hollow, and found it chasing a little soul he had learned to call a Whole, having found one once in Amity a while back, in an old abandoned warehouse.

Danny quickly unsheathed Tōshō from his back and descended down till he was standing between the hunter and prey. "Not so fast, Hollow." Danny said harshly, blade at the ready.

The hollow saw him and howled its anger at the Soul Reaper for having let its meal get away. It attacked. Danny quickly dodged and leapt forward, finishing the hollow off with a skilled and practiced slice down his mask, rendering it in two. Danny then turned to locate the Whole he had seen the hollow chasing. He saw it was a little boy, no older than seven years old, hiding behind a trashcan to watch the fight.

Danny walked over to him and knelt down, smiling softly at the boy. "Hey, you alright?" Danny asked. The little Whole boy nodded, be he could still see the boy shaking. Danny chuckled. "Relax, I'm the good guy. Do you wish to move on?"

The soul stared at him warily. "Move on? You mean to heaven?" he asked in a soft, fear filled voice.

Danny nodded. "You could say that. I could help you, you know?"

The boy looked at him, his eyes now filled with hope. "Really?"

Danny nodded. "Yeah. Do you want to go? If you stay here, then another monster like that will be back." Or you'll turn into one. He finished in his mind.

The boy looked nervous, "But what about mommy and daddy? I don't want to leave them…"

Danny felt his heart twinge a little in pity. "I know you don't, but I also know they wouldn't want you to stay around forever. It would get lonely. A young boy like you probably wants friends to play with, right?" the boy nodded slowly. "Well, in the Soul Society, there will be plenty of kids your age to play with. And one day your mom and dad will find you again there."

The boy's eyes widened "Really?"

Danny smiled wider and nodded. "Uh huh."

"Does…does it hurt?"

Danny grinned, having received the same question from the last soul. "No, not from what I hear." He then propped Tōshō up on his shoulder, hilt towards the boy's forehead.

The child looked at the sword with awe and fear, having seen it destroy the monster. "That's a cool sword, mister."

Danny grinned when he felt Tōshō's pride puff up. "Yeah. His name is Tōshō. He's my Zanpakuto. My partner. All Soul Reapers have one. If you want, when you get to the Soul Society, get stronger and become a Soul Reaper, then you can have an awesome partner too."

The boy then grinned, all traces of fear now gone from him. "I'll will, sir!" His eyes went wide a second before asking. "What's your name, mister?"

Danny paused, startled at the question before he composed himself and smiled. "It's Fenton. Danny Fenton."

The kid smiled widely. "I'm Hikari Shiro. Maybe I'll see you in heaven one day, Fenton-san!"

Danny chuckled and reached his hilt forward. "Alright. Stay safe, Shiro-san." And with that, he let the base tap the Wholes forehead, leaving a blue mark and letting a gentle blue glow take over and break him down. After that, there was nothing but a black and purple butterfly fluttering that then left to escort the spirit to the Soul Society.

Danny straightened and then sheathed his Zanpakuto. He hated when he found a kids soul. It means they died way too soon and hadn't even gotten to live their life. The one he found in Amity was around the same age and had said he was killed in a car crash a few days prior. Danny had heard about the crash on the news, and apologized to the kid about what had happened. He talked to the soul for a while till he calmed down enough for Danny to perform a 'Konso', as Tōshō called it, on him. He still felt bad for the kid and hopped that he made friends in the Soul Society.

Danny suddenly felt two spiritual pressures heading towards him, both stronger than he was, one by a lot. Danny cursed and turned, making a quick getaway to get back to Red. He made it to his apartment without being found and located Red messing with the T.V., much to Danny's amusement.

"I'm back." He called, walking over to him, making Red jump about a foot in the air.

"Suffering Spooks, dude! Don't do that! Ya almost gave me a heart attack!"

Danny cracked a grin. "My bad. Time to switch."

Red nodded and Danny pushed him out of his gigai and reentered it, stuffing Red's pill back into the plush toy. Danny stretched, getting out a few kinks before moving back to the kitchen, looking for food. Once he found something that perked his interest, be began cooking it. Danny saw Red looking at the food he was cooking with longing and smiled sadly. "If there is ever a day that I no longer need you, I'll be sure have Urahara see if he could make you your own Gigai." He told the plush toy.

Red gave him an appreciative smile. "Thanks, Danny." He then hopped away to continue searching the house, leaving Danny to finish cooking his meal.

Guess I need to also get my things prepared for tomorrow.

-"Alright, Rukia. You said there was a Hollow here, now where is it?" a tall orange haired teen bit out as he looked around to try and spot the masked creature.

The short, black haired girl beside him, Rukia, was messing with her Soul Pager trying to locate the missing Hollow. "I don't know, Ichigo. It just suddenly vanished. But there are traces that a Konso was performed here. Maybe another Soul Reaper beat you to it?"

"Maybe, but I thought that the Afro guy was pulled back to Soul Society last month? Something about there being a shortage of Soul Reapers in the Rukon district or something of the sort." The taller teen, Ichigo said with confusion.

Rukia then sighed and snapped her phone shut. "I know that, but I can't think of anything else that could destroy a hollow AND perform a Konso. Got any other idea's, strawberry?" she asked with sarcasm.

"Oi! Don't call me that, midget! OW! Shit!"

"And don't call me midget, carrot-top!"

Ichigo huffed and rubbed at his sore shin, scowling around the area. "Whatever. If the hollows gone, then lets head back home. There's no point in being out here anymore."

Rukia blinked. "What? You don't want to try and look for what killed the hollow and konso'd a soul?"

Ichigo turned the scowl to her. "It's obviously not an enemy, so why worry about it?"

Rukia stared him down for a second before sighing. "Alright, whatever. But if something bad happens because of it, and the Soul Society asked what happened…I'm pointing at you." She said then turned away to start heading back to Kurosaki Clinic where she was currently sharing a room with Ichigo's younger twin sisters.

"You do that." Ichigo said as he followed after her with Flash Step, moving slightly ahead of her.

Danny had finished eating the meal of shrimp fried rice he made and was now reclining back on the couch with Red on top of the back, asleep, watching the news to try and found out a bit more about his new home. So far, there was really no difference from America, except for the language. After an hour of nothing that would surprise him, Danny clicked it off and headed back up to his room, leaving Red still knocked out on the couch.

The teen made it to his room and saw on the bedside clock that it was now quarter past seven at night, so the teen went to take a shower. After an half an hour of standing under the warm relaxing water, he dried off and got dressed into fluffy blue night cloths, and made his way into bed. He collapsed under the covers and closed his eyes, mentally preparing himself to tomorrow, his first day in Karakura High.

This should be and interesting experience. Danny thought, hearing Tōshō agreeing in his mind as he met sleep with welcome arms.
