A new story for me to try out, based on a picture i found.
He had no memories, only a name: Kael.
The first thing he noticed upon waking was how dimly lit the room appeared. The next was that he was laying on his back on the surprisingly smooth floor. He sat up and ran his hands through his dark brown hair. As his eyes adjusted to the dim light, he could make out statues surrounding him. He stood up, trying to figure out how he had gotten here.
He turned around, an odd sense of déjà vu coming over him, and came face to face with an alter. Pictured at the top of the alter where three Pokémon that, although familiar, he couldn't name. Inscribed on the alter where words in an old language. As he stared, the words seemed to translate themselves. The words read:
"Choose thee an alter at the edge of this room.
Consider thine options, then place thine hand upon the alter.
To this great one shalt thou dedicate thy service and life.
Keep the virtues, and your reward shall be great.
Break the taboos, and thy fate shall repeat itself.
To thee shall be granted gifts and talents to aid thy way.
And to thee shall a companion be provided.
At the end of this trial shall year be judged by we three."
Kael approached each alter in turn: there was Yveltal, who represented death; Giratina, who lived in isolation; Mewtwo, who wanted to advance the world through science; Darkrai, who wanted to teach truth through pain and suffering; Jirachi, the wish maker; Victini, the one who inspired; Genesect, the warlord; Deoxys, the alien being.
The last statue, however, was different. It depicted to smaller Dragon Pokémon circling each other. The tablet named them Latios and Latias. The purpose of their followers was to spread love and harmony. However, they weren't allowed to fall in love.
The tablet then went to list the different abilities he would be granted: invisibility, flight, and the ability to sense emotions. These powers would be amplified while with a follower of the opposite gender. Kael stared at the two Pokémon depicted in the carving. Something about the statue called to him.
Kael raised his hand and placed it on the alter.
Suddenly a voice assaulted both his ears and mind, "This is your chosen path. When you wake again, you shall meet the companion that shall walk it with you."
There was a blinding flash, and Kael once again found himself in the void of sleep.
