Chapter 4

xXx

An hour later we were sitting in the meeting room. White paced back and forth. I wasn't sure if I liked him better behind the screen or in person. He stopped and slammed his hands on the table. Yeah, definitely better behind the screen.

"A few months ago I learned that the original nanite scientists discovered the dominion code or god code. This code would give its user control over the fabric of the universe itself. They created something they called master control nanites or meta-nanites. Anyone with these nanites will be able to control the god code."

"Que wha?" I looked at him confused.

"Van Kleiss is looking for these nanites that will make him a god?" Holiday gasped.

That I understood. "So what are we waiting for let's go get those nanites." I said getting up.

"Sit down." White Knight snapped at me. "The scientists broke the nanites into 5 pieces and hid them."

"Not a bad idea given its power." Six observed.

"A source tells me Van Kleiss has one already."

"Not good." I groaned.

"But I also know that Rylander one of the original nanite scientist is still alive but has disappeared. We need to get to him before Van Kleiss does."

"How can we do that if he's disappeared?" Holiday asked.

"A resistance group in the Amazon sent me these photos yesterday." He threw some pictures at us.

I looked at one of them. It was a blurry picture of a man with long white hair.

"That's what we're going with?" I asked incredulously.

"Suit up. You leave in 20 minutes. "White walked out.

Great, going on a wild goose chase.

But 20 minutes later we were in a plane headed for the Amazon. Bobo had refused to go. Something about nature being over-rated.

So Six, Holiday, and I are going to search the whole jungle looking for this Rylander.

"Where do we even start?" I whined.

"We do have a lead. " Holiday assured me. "There's been talk from natives about a white devil who lives deep in the heart of the jungle by the ruins of a temple. "

"Really, white devil? Why not?" I said sarcastically. I looked out the window and faintly wondered what had happened to Circe. Is she happy now that Van Kleiss is in control? I was annoyed that she bashed me over my head but I couldn't help but hope that she'll one day see Van Kleiss for what he really is… a deluded megalomaniac.

I glanced up at Holiday and Six. They were looking at each other. It was then it hit me that maybe they might have a thing for each other. It was a bit of a shock since I didn't think Six had any feelings... and I thought Holiday was into me.

Before I could say anything though, something hit the plane.

"We're going down." Six said matter-of-factly. "Brace for impact."

I grabbed my seat and got into the crash position. I felt the plane hit the ground hard and shudder to a stop.

"Everyone okay?" Holiday asked getting up.

"Yeah fine, if I was a milkshake." I muttered. That made Holiday smile a little.

"Holiday, Rex." We heard Six call from outside. I never notice him leaving the plane.

We went out and saw Six inspecting the damage.

"This is from a laser." Six pointed at the damage on the side of the plane.

"I guess someone's expecting us." Holiday mused.

"Van Kleiss?" I asked alarmed.

"No, Van Kleiss would have directly attacked us. This is a warning shot. Not meant to kill."

"Just maim, right?" I said sarcastically.

"Well, nothing we can do now but to move along." Holiday slung her bag over her shoulder. I did likewise. I looked at Six.

"Hey Six, I can take care of myself. Why don't you watch Doc to make sure she's safe?" I said.

"Watch yourself. "Holiday sniffed as she knocked a snake out of the tree with her machete. She cut down some vines and pushed her way into the jungle.

Six and I looked at each other before we both followed her.

After trudging through the jungle for what seemed like hours, we finally stopped at a river.

"My feet are killing me." I complained as I took off my boots. I swear I thought I could see steam coming off my feet. Bobo was right, nature is over-rated. "How much longer?"

"I'm getting strange energy readings coming from up the river." Holiday stated looking at her handheld computer.

"How are we getting there?" I asked fanning my feet.

"Well, unless you see a boat, we're walking." Six pushed himself off the tree he was leaning on. "Let's move."

"Aww, man." I grumbled as I pulled my boots back on.

We slogged through the banks of the river. I had a funny feeling we were being watched. I kept looking behind me.

"What's up Rex?" Six noticed; he always notices.

"I don't know." I admitted but… something seems off.

Six scanned the river and the jungle behind us. All of a sudden I was sucking river water.

"Six!" I yelled as something pulled me under.

The water was murky. I couldn't see anything but I felt something around my ankle. I was afraid if I made my BFS I would accidently cut my foot off. I felt someone grab my wrist. Six?

Now it was a tug of war. I thought I felt something glide past me. The hand on my wrist let go and I was pulled down. I began to black out.
