(A/N:) Thank you all for reviwing and I bring you chapter 7 which was written by the wonderful YellowAngela.
I do not own.
My mouth hung open as did Doc and Bobo's.
"Mind letting me down now?" Bobo asked.
"Oh sorry. Wait it talks?" Caesar asked surprised as he pressed some button to drop the chimp.
"Yeah, but getting him to shut up is the trick." I said.
"Oh, so funny that I forgot to laugh." Bobo muttered brushing himself off. "I think I'm going to take a nap now." I watched Bobo stalk off.
"How do I know you're really my brother? I asked.
"Your name is Rex Salazar. Our parents are Violeta and Rafael." Caesar rattled off.
"I have total amnesia, so, for all I know, that could be completely bogus." I replied.
"There's a scar on the back of your left knee you got when you were 7, riding the gantry arm in the reactor annex." He pointed to my leg.
"I always wondered how I got that." I said looking at my knee.
"What's with the bracelet?" Caesar asked me.
Oh, the cuffs, I had forgotten about them. I pulled it off.
"This was to keep that, "I pointed at the machine," from coming out of me."
"What?" Caesar seemed confused. "I sent a command to the Omega-1 nanite to build a locator so I can track it. How could the locator come out of you? You'd better catch me up on what happen…" He looked at a clock in his suit. " Hmm, according to the atomic clock it's been 5 years… Esta es una problema grande."
"Yeah, it's a big problem." I agreed. "Let's go to the kitchen."
"I don't suppose you have the ingredients to make a pineapple salmon pizza do you?"
"Actually, I would like to have a word with you, Dr. Salazar." White Knight walked in.
"How do you know my name?" Caesar asked suspiciously.
"I am familiar with all the scientists that worked on the nanite project." Knight replied.
"I too have news to share with you that you may find disturbing."
Several hours and three large pizzas later, Caesar was rubbing his temple.
"You are telling me that Van Kleiss that third rate lab hack has taken over the world and is trying to find the meta-nanites?" He turned to me. "And Rylander has injected you with the Omega-1 nanite? Then Van Kleiss killed him?"
I nodded. "That's about it."
"Dios mio." He muttered.
"Well, that's what Van Kleiss wants with the meta-nanites… to become a god." Knight said sternly. "You need to tell us what you know about all this before it's too late."
Caesar sighed. "There's not much to tell. We discovered that the people funding the nanite project wanted to harvest the power of the nanites to become immortal. So we agreed to release them before they were complete to keep it away from them. But someone sabotaged our efforts. An explosion occurred. I managed to escape in my lab. But the shock wave, the same shock wave that probably blanked your memory... also interfered with engine that powers my research pod. I was stuck in sub-light drive for 15 minutes but 5 years has passed here."
"Wait, you caused the Nanite Event?" I was appalled.
"Sort of. A group of us decided that to keep that kind of power away from the Consortium, the people who were funding us, we had to disperse it. It wasn't supposed to be that violent. Some fool triggered a replication cycle. And we knew there would be some mutations but we had no idea it would be this bad." Caesar got up and looked at one of the monitors. He watched as EVOs walked around the makeshift petting zoo at the Plant.
"Fascinating." He touched the screen as if lost in thought.
"What happened to mom and dad?" I asked softly.
Caesar looked at me sadly. "They were in the reactor."
"So they're…" I couldn't continue.
"Gone." He finished for me.
"Dr. Salazar, this is the future of humanity we are talking about. We need to know where the meta-nanites are." Knight snapped us out of our conversation.
"Impossible. The explosion has scattered it to the winds." Caesar looked defiantly at White Knight.
"Van Kleiss has found one already."
I watched as Caesar's face paled.
He looked back at the screen where some EVOs were eating the leaves off a tree.
"I can build a detector to find the others. " Caesar finally answered. "But if Van Kleiss gets a hold of all five…."
"Well, he isn't!" I replied angrily. "Because we are going to find them first!"
Six was silent the whole time. I forgot he was even there. I jumped when he finally spoke.
"I suggest Dr. Salazar gets working right away. Van Kleiss is getting stronger everyday. It's just a matter of time before he discovers our base."
"Agreed." Knight said. "Dr. Holiday, can you set up a space for our guest."
Doc got up and motioned for Caesar to follow her.
Six watched them go out. When they left, he turned to us.
"He's not telling us everything."
"But Six," I protested. "What could he possibly be hiding?"
"I don't know but there's something." He was adamant.
"You're just being paranoid." I scoffed.
"And that's why I've survived this long." He countered. "I know you've said you've wanted to find your family.…"
"You know what?... I already did. Caesar may be my brother, but you, Holiday, Bobo: you're who I have a connection with. Still I think he's on the up and up." I said firmly. I got up to find where Holiday put him. We have some catching up to do.
