Chapter 10

Do Not Own Characters.

xXx

As Quarry made his way towards me, I tried to make a build, any build but I was spent. Just when I thought this was it, a car flew out of no where and hit Quarry. Quarry was knocked a few feet away. He pushed the car off him and turned to see who it was.

"Leave him alone." Skwydd yelled.

"If you want to get to him you have to get through us." Tuck added.

"That's right." Cricket agreed.

I was a little stunned. What made them turn on Quarry like that?

"You ungrateful whelps! When I'm through with you, they won't be able to scrape enough of you to put in a casket!"

I watched as Tuck, Cricket, and Skwydd attack Quarry but they were no match for him. I watched helpless as they were tossed aside like rag dolls. Then he walked threateningly towards Cricket. She was on the floor trying to push herself up. I saw the fear in her eyes as Quarry loomed over her. He lifted her by her neck with one hand and began squeezing the life out of her.

I heard my voice yelling for him to stop. Fear and anger course through my veins and then suddenly…

A large blue generator grew from my back; one of my arms grew longer and became a thick whip. Woah! This was definitely new! When the generator shot out of my back I was freed from the wall. Without thinking I flung my whip at Quarry and knocked him away from Cricket.

"Get away from her!" I yelled hardly recognizing my voice. I hit him again and again not letting him get a chance to get up. With the last swing I felt energy surge through and shock the heck out of Quarry. He blew back and hit a building which promptly collapsed on him. I looked at the new build.

"Blaster Caster." I whispered naming my new build.

"That's new." I heard Six behind me. I spun around.

"Finally decided to show up, huh?" I asked sarcastically.

"Had a run in with some EVO's." He said calmly.

"Rex, you need to get out of here. Van Kleiss's men will be here any minute now to get what's in the vault." Cricket came to warn us.

"Not until we get what we came for." I said.

"Is it in the vault?" Tuck asked. "We can get you in."

A few minutes later we were in front of the giant vault under the streets again.

Skwydd keyed in the code and the vault opened. Inside was all sorts of crates and other junk. I suddenly spied what we came for. It was faintly glowing in a glass encasement on a stand in the middle of the room. As I reached out my hand to grab it, I felt a spark of electricity go through me. I thought I heard someone say, `Brother, you found me.' I jumped back a little but then everything went back to normal.

"You okay, kid?" Six asked.

"I'm okay," I told Six. "I got it. Let's get out of here."

But then I felt a chill go through me. "Six, It's Breach!"

Tuck pointed to some crates. "Hide behind there."

Just as we dove behind the crates, Van Kleiss stepped into the safe followed by Breach… then I saw her… Circe!

"Well, where is it?" Van Kleiss demanded.

"Where's what?" Cricket asked innocently.

Van Kleiss grabbed Cricket by the throat. I tensed but Six put a restraining hand on me.

"Don't test my patience. Quarry said he found what I needed."

"Excuse us your Excellency but Quarry took that and left. Something about bargaining chips." Tuck lied smoothly.

Van Kleiss narrowed his eyes and dropped Cricket.

"When I find that traitorous rock…" Van Kleiss stormed out of the safe. I couldn't help it but I peeked out. Circe and I locked eyes. I quickly pulled my head in. She was startled and stood frozen in place.

"Circe, what are you waiting for?" Van Kleiss called from outside.

I cursed my carelessness. Now I've gotten all of us in trouble. I was about to form my smack hands when I heard Circe reply.

"Nothing, sir. It's nothing. Are we going to go back to the Abysus?"

"No, we're going to get ready to go to the Bug Jar." Van Kleiss answered. "Biowulf, go find that useless walking granite and bring him to me."

"Yes, master."

I felt another chill and I knew that Breach had opened another portal. They were gone. My head was reeling again. Did Circe just cover for me? And did she just trick Van Kleiss into revealing his next move? What did it all mean?

Before I could wrap my head around it Six grabbed me and pushed me out the vault. Tuck Cricket, and Skwydd met us at the mouth of the vault.

"We need to get out of here and back to base." Six said.

I turned to my new… or was it my old friends. "What are you going to do?"

"Don't worry about us." Tuck said bravely. "We can take care of ourselves."

"You can come back with us." I offered.

"No, we belong here." Skwydd said firmly.

"You can join the resistance in Hong Kong." Six informed them. He pulled out a small cube. He pressed the sides and a hologram image of a gear showed up. "Show this to the people at this address and tell them White Knight sent you." Six handed them a card along with the cube.

Tuck looked at the card and cube. He held out his hand. Six shook it. Tuck turned to me.

"Sorry about hitting you. Whatever you were before, you're definitely not like that now."

"What made you change your mind?" I asked curious.

"When you were willing to give up your journal for us." Cricket answered softly.

I understood. We shook hands. Somehow it felt familiar and right.

"Hey, Beanpole! Did you find him?" I heard Bobo's voice come from behind me. I spun around to see my furry sidekick.

"Bobo!" I hugged him.

"Good ta see ya too, kid. I got a ride waiting for us. Let's beat it." He said. We followed him out. We parted ways with my old gang. Six, Bobo, and I hopped into another jeep Bobo had "borrowed" for us. He drove us to an abandoned airstrip. Walking into a hanger, Bobo pulled a sheet off a lump. I gawked at it.

"Seriously, we're going home in this?" I didn't look like it can make it off the ground much less thousands of miles back home.

"Hey, beggars can't be choosy." He replied.

"What happened to the jump jet?"

"That would be the run in with the EVO I had." Six replied getting into the decrepit plane…. if you could even call it a plane. It was more like a sardine can with wings attached to it. And was that…?

"Duct tape?" I cried realizing that the wings were held on by the adhesive.

"Hey, duct tape is a miracle material." Bobo said. "Besides, it's all I had to repair it with."

"Just get in Rex." Six said almost tiredly. "We're wasting time. Besides, what are you worried about? You can fly"

Bobo had already gotten into the pilot's seat. I reluctantly got in. But Six was right, if anything happens, I can fly but that didn't mean I wanted to fly thousands of miles home carrying their dead weight.

Miraculously we made it home. The stupid plane held together long enough for us to get to the Plant. But as I got out of the plane, both wings fell off. Someone has a sick sense of humor.

"Well, did you get it?" White Knight asked.

"Oh hello, how was your trip? `It was fine. Almost got killed by a walking statue but other than that it was great.'" I said sarcastically.

White ignored me and looked at Six. Six handed him the meta-nanite.

White took it and walked out of the room.

"Hey, great job guys. `Why thank you, White. Nothing we couldn't handle.' Treat yourselves to some time off." I mimicked White Knight. Man, he really ticks me off sometimes. After all that, not a single word of gratitude.

I turned to look at Six but I saw him walk out.

"I guess it's just you and me Bobo." I turned to my sidekick.

"Sorry chief, I need my beauty sleep." Bobo yawned. He waved and walked out as well.

I was alone. "So Rex, what do you want to do? `I don't know. How about raid the kitchen?' That sounds like a plan." Great, I was talking to myself now. I went to see what I could find in the kitchen.
