Chapter 12

(A/N:) Hey guys, so as promised here is chapter 12!

This chapter was written by the most amazing person on the planet, YellowAngela!

When we reached base, I was like pumped. But as usual White Knight was a killjoy.

"We still have much work to do. Be on alert. Van Kleiss won't let this affront go." He walked out.

I rolled my eyes. I glanced over at Holiday and was surprised to see her look depressed.

"Excuse me. I have to…excuse me." She practically ran out of the room.

I looked quizzically at Six.

"Her sister wasn't there." He said.

That's all he needed to say. I speculated that Holiday was hoping to find her sister still at Providence. But if she wasn't there then where is she?

Six walked out. I guess he was going to see if Holiday was okay. I wished he'd just tell her he liked her. But that's another problem for another time.

I hated to see Holiday like this. I wished there was something I could do. Then it occurred to me that maybe there was. I ran to my room.

I found my cell phone and scrolled through the numbers. I found the one I wanted and dialed it. I knew it was dangerous long shot but it was the only thing I could think of to do.

"Hello?" Circe answered hesitantly.

"Circe?" I was not feeling as sure as I was a second ago.

"Rex? What are you doing calling me? Are you crazy? Van Kleiss is tearing up every city, town, and country looking for you." Circe sounded concerned for me.

"Umm, thanks for helping me back there but I need to know if you know what happened to all the EVOs that were in Providence's Petting Zoo particularly one that was contained in the middle of the zoo."

"What?" She sounded confused.

"When Van Kleiss took over Providence, what happened to the EVOs there?" I was keeping an eye on the time. If anyone was tracing the call I couldn't stay on the line that long.

"Van Kleiss released them. They became part of his army and were dispersed all over the world. I don't know where any one particular EVO could be. But maybe if you could meet me somewhere I can figure out where this EVO went." She suggested.

I paused. This could be a trap but it may be the only way to figure out where Doc's sister went. "Fine, but I pick the place. " I said.

"Okay." Circe agreed.

An hour later I was waiting for her at Bob's Biscuit Barn which was shuttered. I could see her walk down the street. I wore one of Six's green trench coats. I had "borrowed" a hat to pull over my eyes. EVOs now freely roamed the streets. I wondered what had happened to all the people.

"You know, you're not fooling anyone." Circe said as she sat down at my table.

"Got here without being stopped didn't I?" I retorted.

She sighed. "Van Kleiss is looking for you. You have something he wants."

"Yeah, I figured. What I can't figure out is why you're working for him?" I looked at her.

"Van Kleiss has done what he said he'd do. He's made a world safe for EVOs." She said.

"Is it really?" I scoffed. "Have you seen what he's done in Hong Kong or anywhere else? And even if it's safe for EVO's at what cost to the regular people?" I argued.

"They never cared about us." She argued back.

"So that makes it okay to enslave them, kill them? Then you're no better than they were." I pointed out. I could tell she was starting to waver so I continued. "Van Kleiss doesn't care about you or them or anyone else other than power. You're all a means to an end."

"No, that's not true." But she didn't sound so certain anymore.

I sighed. I really wasn't here to change her mind although I wish I could. So I cut to the chase.

"A friend of mine needs to know where the EVO stored in the containment unit in the Petting Zoo of Providence went to. Can you help me find it?" I asked.

"I looked into it. It wasn't obedient to Van Kleiss. He may have sent it to the Bug Jar. That's where all the non-compliant EVOs went." She answered.

So instead of all roads leading to Rome, they all were leading to the Bug Jar.

"Thanks, Circe." I smiled at her. She gave a little smile back.

"Yes, thank you Circe for leading Rex right into our trap." The voice sent chills down my spine.

I formed my smack hands as I spun around to face Van Kleiss.

"Really, Rex you didn't think I wouldn't find you?" He sneered at me.

I glared at Circe who had a shock look on her face. "You set me up!" I accused her.

"No, Rex, it isn't like that…" She stammered.

"Come along Rex, You've lost." Van Kleiss shot his spines from his gauntlet at me.

I leapt out of the way and came at him with my smack hands. His hand extended and grabbed my hand. He threw me but I landed on my feet. I formed my slam cannon and blasted him with some concrete from the floor. He knocked it away from him.

"There's no where to go Rex." He taunted.

I looked around suddenly aware that I was surrounded.

"No where to go but up." I said as I formed my boogie pack. I shot up into the air. Out of the corner of my eye I saw two flying dragon EVOs come at me from opposite directions. I stopped and waited then as they got closer immediately flew out of the way. I watched as the two EVOs collided.

"Fools!" I heard Van Kleiss's irate voice from below. "Get him!"

"Sorry, Van Kleiss. Not today." I flew off but I felt something grab onto my wing and rip it off. I started falling! Just as I was about to hit the ground I felt a surge of power and a board formed from my legs. I skimmed the ground as I flew back up. What the heck? It liked like a hover board but it was attached to my feet.

"Sky Slyder!" I cried ecstatically. Unfortunately, I couldn't control it very well. "Woooaaaah!" I flew erratically around. Fortunately, it was confusing the flying EVOs.

The flying EVOs collided into each other as I weaved back and forth. Suddenly, I saw another flying straight at me. Then out of no where it was blasted out of the sky. I looked up and saw Bobo with his lasers standing at the doorway of a scout ship.

"Hey, chief. Can you use a hand?" He grinned at me.

"Bobo! Good timing!" I gave him a thumbs up. I flew into the scout ship. Briefly, I looked disdainfully back at Circe. She kinda looked lost and I felt bad for her. I dismissed the thought and closed the door.
