This wonderful chapter was written by YellowAngela.
"Quick we need to get to the Bug Jar with as many people as possible." I yelled to the pilot. He turned around and I was shocked to see…
"White Knight?" I gulped.
He scowled at me. "What do you think you were doing? You could have jeopardized everyone's lives." He yelled at me.
"I was trying to get some information. And I did." I said triumphantly. "We need to get to the Bug Jar."
White Knight glared at me for a second. I held my ground.
"The kid could be right." Six said. I looked at Six in surprise. Was he helping me out?
After another tense second, White finally acquiesced. "Setting a course for the Bug Jar. Calling all units for back up." He shot me a look and growled, "You'd better be right or all humanity is doomed."
"I am." I said with confidence that I didn't feel anymore. That's a lot of pressure.
I sat in the back of the scout ship. Caesar was there working on something.
"Hey bro. Whatcha doing?" I asked bored and trying to keep my mind off the really confusing feelings I had inside right now.
"I'm fine tuning my nanite disruptor." He answered.
"Que wha?" I looked at him.
"This little beauty. "He held up something that looked like a magic wand. He tapped it on the table and it started vibrating. Pain suddenly shot through my body.
"Caesar, stop!" I cried clutching my sides.
He quickly turned it off. "Lo siento, mijo. I'm sorry." He apologized as he turned it off.
"Wow, that'll be effective." I said still in pain.
"Yes, well, I'm hoping it will last long enough to get what we need." Caesar answered.
"Did your meta-nanite tracker tell you that the meta-nanite is in the Bug Jar?" I was hoping for some confirmation that will give me reassurance that we were not going on a wild goose chase. I hoped that we will also find Holiday's sister but I couldn't tell White Knight that we were just going on a rescue mission. I hoped that we are not wasting our lives, more lives on nothing. But Caesar couldn't reassure me.
"The force field of the Bug Jar is blocking my tracker. If we go in we might be able to get a better reading. But getting in is the problem."
"So how are we getting in?" I asked.
"We're going to destroy one of the shield generators. That should give us a wide enough opening to get in." Six said as if was the most obvious thing in the world. I looked over at Holiday. She had a far off look in her eyes as she stared out the window.
I turned to Six and told him what Circe had told me about the possibility of the EVO we want being in the Bug Jar. Six's expression didn't change. He looked over at Holiday.
"Let's not get her hopes up." He said quietly. "When we go in, I'll go look for her sister you look for the meta-nanite."
I looked at Six in surprise. Was he really going to disobey orders for Holiday? Wow, he really has it bad for her.
I watched Six set the charge on the shield generator. Then he ran back to where we were a safe distance away. The explosion shut down the generator. A portion of the shield flickered then went out. White gave the signal and we all moved in. Caesar pulled me aside.
"Wait a minute, mijo. There's something you need to know." He looked nervous.
"What's that?" I asked. He touched my shoulder. I felt a sharp pain and then everything went black. The last thing I heard was Caesar saying, "I'm sorry, Rex. But I can't let you go."
My last thought was that my own brother is a traitor.
When I came to, I was restrained in a harness in some makeshift lab. I blinked to adjust my eyes more quickly. I looked up and saw Van Kleiss with my brother!
"What's going on?" I asked hoping that it wasn't what it looked like.
"Ah, Rex, awake at last." Van Kleiss smiled smugly. "Your brother is a very smart and reasonable man. He understands what needs to be done, don't you Caesar?"
I looked at Caesar in horror. "Bro, you didn't. You couldn't!" I was thinking back to what Six had said. I guess he was right. I hate it when he's right.
Caesar wouldn't look me in the eye. "This is for the best." He said.
"Like fun it is!" I yelled my blood starting to boil. I tried to form my builds but found I couldn't. I looked at my restraints. They looked like the golden hand cuffs.
"Don't bother struggling," Van Kleiss waved his hand dismissively. "These prevent your nanites from activating your builds. You are powerless. Now to get what I want."
He walked over to a case. Pressing the code the case opened with a hissing sound. Four glass containers containing the meta-nanites rose up.
"Where's Six, Holiday, Knight?" I yelled realizing that they were not around.
"Gone. I wouldn't worry about them. I would be more concerned right now about yourself. You see you contain the last nanite I need." Van Kleiss had come over and grabbed my face in his hand. He turned my face as he studied it.
"I will need to extract it from you." He noted before letting go. I tried to wipe my face on my shoulder. I glared at him but couldn't help but feel hopeless. I couldn't even fathom that my friends were gone.
Biowulf walked in carrying something over his shoulder. He threw it done on the floor. Circe!
"Master! I found the traitor." Biowulf announced.
Van Kleiss looked scornfully at the figure on the floor.
"So my dear Circe, you dare defy me?" He sniffed.
"You don't care about us. You never did." She growled.
Wait, was I hearing this right? I had totally misjudged Circe then. I felt very guilty… and scared for her. What will Van Kleiss do to her?
"I will deal with you later. I have more important things to attend to right now. Vines grew from the ground and wrapped around her. Once I have all 5 meta-nanites I will control life itself." Van Kleiss continued his monologue. "Caesar, ready the extractor."
"Caesar," I begged. "Don't do this."
"I'm sorry, Rex. I truly am." Caesar aimed large cannon at me. A second later I was engulfed by a white light. It felt like my whole body was on fire. I heard myself scream. I felt something in me being pulled out. It was not the Omega-1 nanite but another one, one that I had not notice in me before, one that was lying dormant until now. Finally, they must have gotten what they wanted because Caesar turned off the machine. I was breathing heavily as sweat poured from my brow. I looked up angrily.
"At last, "Van Kleiss said, "it's all mine." He took all five glass encasements and put them into slots on some machine. Then using his gauntlet he plunged his spikes into each slot. Blue light glowed from VanKleiss's body. He stepped back.
"I can feel the power coursing through me." he turned to Circe. "Maybe I should test this power out."
"No," I could only manage to whisper. As he walked over to Circe, I started to panic more. "No, no NO!" I screamed. He had grabbed Circe by the throat and lifted her up. She was clutching his hands gasping for air. He threw her back. She fell on the floor. Forming fireballs he threw them at her. Her secondary mouth formed and she extinguished them before they reached her. But the floor underneath her froze and she slipped. Then she was levitated and thrown against a rock again and again and again. I looked at the sick SOB. He was smiling. He was enjoying it. I felt anger, fear, and something else well up inside me. My harness suddenly released me. I fell to the ground. At the moment I didn't care how or why I was released. I gave a cry and my hands formed into glowing blue axes. I swung them at Van Kleiss. I sliced him in half but he quickly regenerated. Circe fell to the ground. At least his attention was off her. He grinned evilly at me.
"Hello, Rex, I don't know how you got out. But let's dance."
"Thrill me." I glared at him. I charged.
