Chapter 15

This chapter is definitely one of my favorites and it's all thanks to the brillant mind of YellowAngela

I quickly found Van Kleiss. He was knocking back our forces with a wave of his hand. He didn't even notice me.

I built my funchuncks and gave him a love tap. I watched him hit the ground. He looked up with a scowl which changed into a surprised look which changed back into a scowl. He floated back up.

"Why won't you die?" He threw fire balls at me.

"I can ask you the same thing." I retorted. I formed my block party and deflected the fireballs back at him.

He dodged it and formed a mace whip. Well, that was unexpected. I quickly countered with my blaster caster. When the two whips touched we were blown back. Come on, come on, what will it take for me to turn into a giant robot?

Doc's voice crackled to life on my comlink.

"Rex, your robot form seems to be your body's final defense. It activates when under extreme duress."

Great, so it means I need to be beaten within an inch of my life in order for me to become the only thing that can stop Van Kleiss.

I rescinded all my builds save my sky slyder and allowed Van Kleiss to hit me with all he's got. I don't mind telling you I was scared… more scared than I've ever been. What if this doesn't work? I'd be dead and where would my friends be? I thought about Six, Bobo, and Doc. I thought of Doc's sister whom she loves so much. Then I thought of all the people lost like my parents, Calan, Rylander, and Circe. I saw the barrage coming, I closed my eyes. I felt every hit, every punch, every pain. I thought I screamed but I couldn't be sure. I kept thinking of all the pain Van Kleiss has caused and how much pain he will continue to inflict if this doesn't work. The pain kept coming until…

I'm not sure what happened. I felt warmth spread throughout my body. Then oddly enough the pain started to fade like I couldn't feel the hits anymore. Did you ever have an out of body experience where you were no longer in control but watching yourself? Well, that's what happened. There are no words to describe it. I just watched my self turn into a robot, metal casing, glowing eyes… the works.

Then I let Van Kleiss have it. I batted away his fireballs like they were made of paper. When he tried to ice me I broke through easily. I shot my fist at him and knocked him back several feet. He picked up rocks with his gravity power and threw them at me. I dodged and charged him. He tried to do his time thingy but I was faster. Before he had a chance I slammed him into the ground. I thought he'd be knocked unconscious by now but he was still up. His metal gauntlet grabbed my shoulder and he flipped me on my back. He held me down and started punching me. With each punch I suddenly had flashbacks of my past. I saw me with my parents, my brother, the other nanite scientists, I even saw Van Kleiss. Then my memories shifted to more recent ones with Six, Doc, Bobo, Noah and even Circe. As Van Kleiss kept punching me, a light engulfed us… then an explosion.

When I opened my eyes, my brother was standing over me with a worried look on his face. I looked over at Six and Holiday. They also looked worried.

"Rex?" Doc said tentatively. "Do you remember us?"

"I…" I scrunched my face. Then I looked at them and my face lit up. "I remember! I remember! I'm back! I'm back!" I held up my arms triumphantly and then quickly put them down. "Owww, my back!"

I felt Doc's arm go around me in a hug. Six even put his hand on my shoulder.

"Good to see you alive, Rex." Six said with a little more emotion than either of us were us to.

"Wait, "I suddenly remembered. "Where's Van Kleiss?"

"Don't worry. I know where he is." My brother said grimly. "We need to go now."

We quickly went back to the makeshift lab. When we got there I saw Van Kleiss trying to drain the rest of the power of the meta-nanites.

I formed my smack hands to go attack but my brother held me back.

He gave me a look.

"Watch." He said.

"What do you mean? I can't sit here while Van Kleiss becomes a god!" I yelled.

Caesar just nodded his head over. I looked. Van Kleiss was bathed in an eerie blue-white light but something was wrong. Sparks were flying out. Then there was an explosion. Van Kleiss's gauntlet was blown off and Van Kleiss flew back. The meta-nanites broke from their case and hovered over the machine.

"I told you, mijo. We added a fail-safe. We were afraid someone might one day try to use the meta-nanites so we programmed them to obey only one person."

"Who?" I asked.

"You." My brother said it so casually.

"Que Wha?" I stammered.

"Go ahead Rex." Caesar nodded to the meta-nanites.

I hesitantly walked over to it. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Van Kleiss watching me but I knew he was not a threat anymore. I reached out my hand and the nanites floated into my hand. I closed my fingers around it. I was a washed with a blue light. I floated into the air. I looked at myself. I looked at my brother and my friends.

"Now what do I do?" I asked.

"You know what to do, Rex." Six said.

I realized I did know what to do. I closed my eyes and the world around me disappeared. When I opened my eyes I saw the nanites in front of me as big as I was, bigger even.

"What is your command?" They asked me.

"I want you to deactivate all the corrupt nanites around the world now!" I commanded them. I felt my body fly up higher and higher into the stratosphere. I continued floating even higher until I was in space and could see the entire planet. Blue light burst forth from my body slowly surrounding the entire earth. Then it was over. I floated back down to where my friends were. I landed on the ground. I looked expectantly at Six.

"Did it work?"

He nodded. "Yes, good job, Rex."

I looked around all the EVOs were gone.

"What is your next command?" I heard the meta-nanite ask me.

"I want to make sure no one ever uses you again including me. Deactivate." I told it.

I felt the meta-nanites shut down. The nightmare was over.

"Becca?" A voice came from behind us. Doc spun around and her eyes widened. She ran to the girl that looked very similar to her. I guessed that it was her sister. I'm glad she made it. Then I finally allowed myself to glance over to where Circe's body lay. But to my surprise she was gone. I went over to see.

"Looking for someone?"

Shocked to hear her voice I turned around and I saw her alive! We hugged each other.

"What happened?" I asked.

"I guess when you deactivated the nanites you managed to revive her." Caesar said. He added, "Nanites are mysterious things."

I couldn't be happier. Then I looked over at Van Kleiss who was sitting quiet and sullen on the floor cradling his arm with the missing hand. He knew he was defeated. Then I felt a chill go through me. Breach?

A red portal opened up and Breach pulled Van Kleiss through.

"No, no, no!" I yelled running to the spot. But I was too late the portal closed and I was pounding empty air.

Six put a hand on my shoulder. "Let it go. We've won."

I nodded. Van Kleiss can wait till another day.

I looked at Caesar.

"Lo siento, hermano. I'm sorry brother. I wanted to tell you but there was so much at stake…"

"Hey, we'll always be brothers." I was telling him I forgave him. We hugged.

"Come on let's blow this pop stand." Bobo suddenly appeared.

Six looked at me.

I shrugged. "I didn't want to lose my best friend."

"Thanks." Bobo grinned. "How about we go get a pizza on our way back?"

"Sounds good to me." I looked at Circe and she smiled.
