Hello, people who are still there and not dead/extremely annoyed with the writers of this fanfiction.
But we have an excuse!
So, the author of this chapter (one of my trusted minions), sent the chapter, but it was accidentally ignored by the rest of us. And, since the particular minion was in Canada at that time, she didn't know that we didn't get it. So, the minion was waiting for us to upload the chapter, and we were waiting for the minion to sent it.
But GOOD NEWS! The minion's back, and we will hopefully not take a year to update this story.
Hopefully.
TAMARA LUKINASA
I silently stood behind a tree not daring to breathe. Any sound would alert Mac of the people surrounding him. Of course, I was invisible thanks to Hannah's powers, but I really didn't trust Hannah to keep me safe. I mean, sure they pulled off a cool trick at the cornucopia; they allowed me to get away from the careers, who I found unbearably annoying and bloodthirsty. But what if Hannah and Mark had decided that my usefulness had come to an end? I had let them get supplies at the cornucopia, and they seemed pretty smart to know that only one person would be able to win the Hunger Games, but if Hannah made me visible, Mac would certainly spot me. A fight to the death would have to happen, and the victor would not be me. Sure, I had teamed up with Hannah and Mark, but it didn't mean I trusted them completely- you never know what is hidden behind those fake smiles and false promises.
All of a sudden, a twig snapped and there was the sound of footsteps. Mac narrowed his eyes and looked around. I could tell he was preparing for battle. Who had made that noise? Was it one of his fellow careers, or had Mark and Hannah decided that we could take on Mac? I waited in silence, the footsteps had quieted and Mac waited tense. All of a sudden, something whistled by and hit Mac in the leg. Instead of wailing in pain, he simply pulled out the arrow that had imbedded itself in his leg and drew out his sword. The air around me started crackling with electricity, and I could tell that something was about to be fried. Another arrow came rushing by, but this time Mac was able to deflect it. Then, out of a shadow stepped Saige Butcher, with a bow in her hand. Was Saige crazy, or was she just driven mad by the idea of winning that she had lost all sanity? Mac had scored a fourteen on his test; did she really think she could defeat him?
She rushed towards him and made her bow morph into a knife; she would have stabbed him, if not for the fact that Mac had deflected the blade with his own sword. He thrust the blade towards Saige, but she sidestepped and moved away from him. Her knife morphed into an electric spear as she ran towards him yelling, but before she could get to him, a lightning bolt flashed, leaving a sizzling crater right in front of Saige.
We had been caught in a battle between two powerful tributes; I could just imagine the people in the capitol taking sides and betting on who was going to win as the battle became fiercer and bloodier. The capitol citizens disgusted me- we were placed in the middle of battlegrounds for their entertainment, and they were excited when someone died. They didn't care that the winner would be scarred for life, or that they would have endless nightmares and terrible images engraved in their heads.
I heard a scream, and my thoughts shattered as I looked towards the battle to see Mac disarm Saige and lift his sword up as if to stab her. I looked away; watching someone die was not on my bucket list.
A cannon boomed, I slowly turned my head and saw Mac standing over a lifeless Saige, with a satisfied smile on his face. He pulled out his sword from where it had pierced Saige, took one last look at the person he so mercilessly killed, and walked away as though it was another ordinary day. Once Mac had disappeared, probably joining his career friends to boast about the person he just killed, Hannah reappeared looking befuddled, Mark joined her, and they shared a knowing look. I stepped out behind the tree to join them.
I looked towards Saige's body- the only thing left of the child of Ares. Yes, she was mean and slightly insane, but did she really deserve to die? We then backed away from the body, not wanting to be sucked up by the aircraft when it was taken away. All of a sudden, I felt a sharp sting in my side and looked down- there was a knife sticking through me.
I felt dizzy and the pain was surging through me. Where had the knife come from? I looked to Hannah who had a panicked expression on her face, then she turned all of us invisible so that the attacker would think we had fled. All of a sudden, Mac stepped out into the clearing, walked right towards Saige and helped her to her feet. Was the pain making me hallucinate, or was Saige really alive? Then I realized that we had been tricked- they had been planning this all along. I felt dizzy-the loss of blood must have taken its effect.
The edges of my vision started darkening, everything around me became slurred into one morbid kaleidoscope, and I realized the cannon wasn't booming for Saige: it was booming for me.
