Chapter 11: Whisper
Renesmee.

I could feel the sun peeking through the window and cascading warmth on my face in the morning. My eyes blinked open, my vision returned to my relief. I cast my eyes around my surroundings, to see Nahuel's arm was draped over my stomach and he was fast asleep.

I stared at his relaxed face for a few minutes. It was times like these that I could feel butterflies in my stomach. He seemed so stone faced, so hidden, that when he slept soundly beside me, I finally got to see his soft face.

Truth-be-told…I couldn't help but love Nahuel. When I looked at his stone-cold face and he reflected nothing, it almost bruised me because of how I felt about Nahuel. I resisted the urge to reach out and touch his face, afraid to wake him and he'd go back to being stone faced. This was the only way I could see his softness and feel like I get reflected, even a fraction, of what I felt for him. I never had the courage to admit this to him, though, because despite how much I want people besides him to know I don't care what they thought, I cared very much what Nahuel thought.

I remembered one time, when I told him the date of my birthday in the….dungeon I was in. He'd never forgotten it. I hadn't celebrated my birthday since I was a kid. I didn't even know how old I was anymore. I came in from training one day, and found a small, quilt textured teddy bear on their bed. It was simple and perfect. But he never admitted it was him.

I nestled my head into the pillow again, ready to fall back asleep when Nahuel's phone rang and he immediately answered.

"Hello?" He spoke softly, his voice thick with sleep but still alert. "When did you take him?" he was suddenly even more alert, upright in bed. "Okay, I'll get her there," he said, immediately on his feet.

"Renesmee, get dressed," he instructed, causing my head to jar.

"What? Why?" a bad feeling was sinking into my stomach.

"It's Charlie…He's gotten worse overnight, they've taken him to your grandfathers," he said simply, shaking his sweatpants off and jumping into a pair of jeans and keeping his black t-shirt.

I was up before he got the rest of it out. I ignored the soreness in my back, shoving my legs into jeans, keeping my hoody on, and a pair of converse from my suit case.

I was afraid the car wouldn't be as fast as I could if I could just run there. I flung the driver door open and Nahuel appeared in the front seat. That was unusual, but I wasn't going to press it.

I bullied the car into powering on and not giving it a minute to wake up, I put the car in reverse and dragged it out of the drive way of the cabin and spun the wheels with a screech and raced off to the Cullen's.

I weaved in and out of traffic frantically, earning a couple of middle fingers, honks, and hostile nicknames but I ignored them.

Once I arrived at Charlie's and nearly kicked the door in as I exploded through the lobby door and tried to remember the layout of the house. I raced into the living room with Nahuel at my side. Was everyone gone!? I shouted to myself impatiently. Where the hell was everyone! I demanded mentally as I spun around the living room I was now standing in hissing trying to smell Charlie somewhere.

I finally caught his scent and charged after it and followed it to the side of the house I was in last night. Standing in my way of seeing him where three, gut-wrenchingly smelly men, that guarded his door protectively as they eyed me.

On the right, was a women. The middle was a man, I knew as Paul. To his left, was the one I recognized from Bella's pictures as Jacob.

I knew this scent-The wolves, I'd never seen one in human form, but I'd seen one when I was much younger, before I left across the river.

My eyes flickered to each of them, but when a change in Jacob's face danced across his face my eyes glued to his face. It was softer than the other two and less menacing than it was two seconds ago.

"Get out of the way," Nahuel snarled.

"Neither of you are going in there. Neither of you are welcome here," Sam snarled.

Before I could think, red clouded my vision. My eyes flicked around for a weapon to get these mongrels out of my way. Coming up empty, I decided on my hands.

I flashed forward, punched my hand through his chest cavity and gripped his heart. The women advanced forward with a snarl.

"Come near me and I rip his heart out, do you understand?" I growled.

Sam was speechless, grunting and growling with my hand gripping his pumping organ. His chest attempted to heal around my hand but I wiggled it making him yelp out in pain. Blood spilled over my elbow and leaked onto my converse, making the white accents now red.

"You listen to me, you son of a bitch," I started, my voice painting every bit of threat as I was issuing it. I was staring him into his yellow hues as he looked at me angrily.

"This is my grandfather you're standing in the way of. Don't you ever, ever, stand in my way again. Because if you do," I got closer to his face with a growl. "I will be doing this again, and next time, I will rip your heart out of your chest and mail every piece of it to your loved ones, starting with your little wench right here," I hissed before taking my hand out of his chest, letting him collapse on the ground.

I kicked past him, letting his wolf girlfriend pick him up and drag him out of the house and ordering Jacob to stay behind.

I stared Jacob right in the eye to challenge him to pull what Paul had done. He stayed quiet, but without fear. These beasts did not have fear. But he gave me a pointed look that I couldn't describe. But it obviously made Nahuel uneasy. As I entered into Charlie's room, I noticed Nahuel stayed behind glaring into Jacob's face, who was oddly standing toe to toe with him.

I watched Charlie in front of me…so weak, so frail. He was so skinny, helpless and like Nahuel had said, he had worsened overnight. Charlie's heart was beating shallowly now. His mind was so far away it put a wrench in my stomach. I slowly walked toward him. My presence was unknown to him.

As I approached his bed side, I gripped his hand. His eyes slowly fluttered open and a weak smile pulled up at his mouth.

"Renesmee…" He said softly.

"Shhh…" I shushed. "Don't talk, just rest," I said, fighting the tears that stung my eyes.

"Renesmee…" He tried again, this time; I could tell that he wanted to tell me something specifically. His heart rate was slowing. "Renesmee…promise me, that you won't let the past…" he breathed out. "Dictate what you do now. Don't let it convince that you not doing something you want to do, will make you weak, you are the strongest person I know," he breathed again, in a whisper. This was all he said and it dumb founded me.

What was he talking about? I wanted to ask him, but I simply nodded. He went to sleep after that, and it felt like he slipped even further away mentally.

Hours went by but I did not keep my eyes off his face as he slept soundly. It seemed like every hour that past his heart became weaker. I looked at the window that let me see Nahuel, who was no longer at the window. I idly wondered where he went.

Probably home to let me have my time with my grandfather, I assumed. I rested my elbow on my grandfather's bed and rested my cheek on my fist as I stared at his peaceful face.

I jumped when my phone buzzed. As I unlocked it, a text message preview appeared on my phone from Nahuel's number.

"I don't mean to rush you. But your father told me to tell you that Bella is on her way over in about an hour to see Charlie, just a heads up."

I scoffed. He and my father swapped phone numbers, I noticed. Where they going out on coffee dates? Shopping? I shook my head and kissed Charlie's hand before heading out of the door.

Nahuel was not gone. But instead, he was in the front room and I could feel tension fog from all the way up here. I finally heard a heated voice.

"It's a gene, I can't help it! Do you think I asked for this! I hate this!" an unfamiliar voice hissed.

"Would it help if we got you fixed?" Nahuel's voice growled back.

"Very funny," the voice responded.

I descended the stairs into the living room and eyed the scene in front of me with high curiosity.

"What the hell is going on down here? Do the one of you have a wish to be on a death bed beside Charlie?" I snarled at the wolf who stood inches away from Nahuel, mirroring Nahuel's battle stance.

"Nothing's going on," Nahuel snapped at me. He rarely ever snapped at me with that tone. "Your mother's coming over, do you want to stay and meet her or not?" he said harshly.

"What's going on with you?"

"Nothing." Nahuel said again, his voice flat this time. His eyes didn't leave Jacob's.

I grabbed his arm and tugged. "Please, I don't have time for whatever is going on here, Bella's coming I gotta scram!" I begged Nahuel.

Jacob's eyes were suddenly glued onto me. I eyed him oddly. "What are you staring at?" I demanded.

I finally managed to drag Nahuel away from the place he was stapled to and out into the forest.

We were now standing in the forest, but I could still see the Cullen house, and hear Charlie's faint heart beat when I spun him around by his arm.

"What the hell was going on back there?" I demanded, hushing my tone so that the Cullen's couldn't hear.

"It was nothing Renesmee," he said simply. "Let's just go home," he attempted to walk through me, but I shot my hand into his chest knocking him backwards.

"No! You're going to answer me!" I hissed. "What I did, I could've gotten myself killed. I don't care about me. But you could've gotten killed," I snarled.

His eyebrows rose in shock, which made me even angrier.

"Don't you dare look at me, like that!" I yelled this time, unable to control my anger.

He started to talk, but I intercepted him. "Yes, I care about what happens to you!" I snapped.

"You may not care about me like th—" I started before his voice boomed.

"I'm sorry, you think I don't care about you like what!" He snapped back at me. This made no sense to me. Why were we even fighting? We rarely ever fought! Why were we doing this? It was random. We were having a flipping couples fight right in my old Clan's back yard!

"You drive me crazy!" He said, stepping close to me, his voice elevated. "You think I don't care—" This time, I interrupted him.

"Damn you! Have you not been listening! Are one hundred and seventy something years catching up with you!" I was losing control of my anger. "You don't! You can't! Edward gets more of an emotional response than I do! Even that…That…guy in there did! You look at me with some sort of stone faced expression all the—"

I was cut off, but not by his voice. He stormed up to me, closing the distance in a second and shoved his hand into my hair and smashed his mouth aggressively into mine. I was shocked at first to return the kiss but after I processed what had just happened, I did.

Nahuel's arm possessively wrapped around my waist and brought me closer to him, until we were against each other.

I wrapped my arms around his neck and stepped on his boots, to make myself taller so I could reach. He shuddered under my arms and panted a breath of air in between the kisses. He jolted forward a couple feet until I was against a tree, I gasped when he reconnected our lips.

His tongue slipped across mine, asking for acceptance. I wasn't even done separating the line of my lips until his tongue barged in, and started to dance with mine. I let out a groan of my own and suddenly remembered where I was.

"Nahuel," I said against his lips, regretting having to separate our lips. "Nahuel," I said again. This time he reacted.

"What's wrong?" He asked suddenly, his face was a mask of worry.

"Can you ask Edward how long Bella is staying here?" I asked. Nahuel looked at her blank faced, like he'd gotten caught.

"I know you exchanged numbers with Edward," I admitted. His eyebrows went up. "I know all about those dates, too!" I teased. I was bursting into laughter. His grip was still tight on my waist and he looked down into my eyes grinning and narrowing his eyes.

"You're going to piss me off, and ruin the mood," He shook his head and pulled his phone out and scrolled down to Edward's number and started texting.

She wants to know how long you will be there with Bella.

A second past and his phone responded.

We are here. The rest of the day and tonight. Please, by all means, without being rude, leave. Again, we are here. SOME of us can hear other things and not just yelling couple fights.

Nahuel's face suddenly twisted into a grimace and sighed.

I raised my eyebrow in question. "What's wrong?"

"I…faltered," He responded after a minute and groaned. "I got sidetracked and I didn't block...certain abilities,"

I could see my eyes enlarge to the size of saucer plates in his eyes. "You…Your guard fell down?" I wanted to do the happy dance. Mr. Perfect-shield-trainer's blocking mechanism zigged before it zagged. My face fell.

"Did…Bella hear us? He said that he heard us fighting…" My heart beat picked up.

He typed away. She wants to know if Bella heard our exchange.

A minute past and the phone beeped.

No. She is in Charlie's quarters. It is sound proofed for vampires. The room is often used for speaking about things we don't want others hearing. I also spoke with Jacob. You don't have to worry about him, either. But I speak with experience. He will be a problem of yours. I bid you good luck.

"Are you two planning another date?" I interjected with my arms folded over my chest, but my teeth bit into the corner of my lips as I bit back a smile "Maybe Serena and I can plan another fight together, and I'll—" I said, before he interrupted me again.

"Shut up," he said, he said closing the gap again and pressing his mouth onto mine, aggressively again. His grip around my waist tightened as we jolted a couple yards across the forest. We smashed into a tree in our path. I gasped at the impact and separated our lips. He reconnected them with a growl and jolted again and smashed into another tree.

It continued until Nahuel swung around and backed in through the door of the cabin and then spun around again to kick the door shut. He crossed the room until we were at the bed. Still in standing position, his hand left my waist and roamed over the rest of my body, one hand stopping at my hair, the other at my neck as he backed me into the wall, trapping me with his iron frame.

We both pulled away panting rapidly. He looked into my eyes with his hand at my rib cage.

"Stop me now, if you don't want to do this," he said darkly, his voice thick and his mouth hovering over mine.

"Shut up," I demanded and closed the gap with our mouths.

After picking me up from the wall, I felt the bed being pressed into my back a Nahuel crawled up and hovered over me, and pressing his lips into mine.
