"No, No the ID is valid, I legally had to have a name changed on the card that's why it doesn't match." Kelly Gibbs screamed into the phone. She hung up and threw the phone across her tiny apartment. This kind of thing had been happening almost on a monthly basis since that day almost two and a half years ago, when she had discovered her true identity. Since then, she'd gone through the proper channels, and started using the name Kelly Gibbs permanently. At first, it seemed logical to keep using the name Kate Geer, and avoid the hassle of trying to legally change her name and prove her identity as Kelly Gibbs. However, Tony had pointed out all the papers including social security number and birth certificate for Katelyn Geer were fake. So she had undergone countless hours at federal agencies, the social security office, and MVD to make sure she could legally be Kelly Gibbs. However, because she lived as Kate for almost a decade it wasn't as easy as it all sounded. Here she was nearly 3 years later, still trying to sort out confusion with the credit card company. "Being Kelly Gibbs is a real pain in the ass." She muttered as she pulled her long hair into a ponytail. It wasn't as if she wasn't happy to be reunited with her father, it was just more complicated than she could have ever foreseen. She laughed recalling how naive she had been that first night talking with Gibbs. They had talked about the past, looked at old family albums and bonded over coffee. However, the next morning the enormity of this discovery hit Kelly squarely in the chest like a speeding freight train. As much as Kelly tried she simply couldn't remember the past, anything about living with Gibbs and her mother, Shannon. Every time her and Gibbs spoke she could sense him growing more and more frustrated with her inability to remember. Finally, out of desperation she went to see a psychiatrist, they had tried everything including hypnosis, but it was to no avail. The doctor explained, that the brain often blocks traumatic memories, and perhaps watching her mother die and being kidnapped by the Reynosa cartel was simply too much for Kelly's young mind. She'd repressed the memories as a defense mechanism, and there was simply no way to determine if or when they would return. Kelly also had to come to terms with the fact that her supposed parents had been lying to her for more than a decade. She tried to move past it in the hope that Gibbs and her parents would bond, or at least get along. However, the one time they had a face to face meeting, there had been awkward small talk, and palatable tension broken only when the heated arguing started. Kelly had hoped that Tony would be someone to turn to during this time, however Gibbs disapproval or their relationship seemed to have infected her parents and Kelly was now forbidden to date Tony. Of course, they were both adults and had ignored this ridiculous rule. However, last February NCIS had been infiltrated by some sort of terrorist, and Agent Todd, and the enchanting ME, Ducky had been held hostage. The show down ended when Gibbs tried to take out the terrorist and had gotten himself shot. Tony had taken the whole thing badly, and now it seemed had no time for Kelly. She of course had been terrified to find out Gibbs was shot, she tried to talk to Tony and Gibbs about it, but they wouldn't say a thing, they wouldn't even tell her who the terrorist was. Kelly eventually got frustrated with Tony and told him to either tell her, or stop obsessing about it. As a result they had barley spoken in months, and Kelly was just about ready to give up on him. Kelly shook her head, she needed to put all of this out of her mind, she was about ready to start sending off medical school applications and needed to be 100% focused on that instead of her never-ending family drama. Kelly retrieved the phone she had thrown, only to be shocked by the time, it was already 7:00 AM. She grabbed her jacket and rushed out the door, she should have been at the cafe 15 minutes ago.
Finally reaching the cafe she pushed opened the door and searched for the man she was meeting. She saw him sitting near the back reading a paper, and approached "I'm so sorry I'm late!' She exclaimed as she dropped into the seat opposite him, the man looked up with a smile "Not at all Katelyn, or its Kelly now I suppose." She laughed "It's been a crazy couple of years, but either name is fine I'm used to answering to both by now." The man nodded "Very well then, I must say I'm glad you called. You were quite right, a recommendation letter from me will help your application get noticed at Edinburgh." Kelly smiled and said warmly "Thanks Haswari, I'm so glad we've kept in contact all these years!" He grinned "Yes Katelyn, I've enjoyed hearing of your academic career, as well as everything going on with your family, knowing I'm not the only one with a crazy family is quite a solace." Kelly blushed "Thank you so much, for being such a good friend and listener, there aren't many people I can talk to about this." He bowed his head "You're emails were always delightful to read, I'm just glad the medical conference came up this weekend, it's been almost 3 years since I saw you last, in Israel." He paused "But how is everything going, are you still trying to work things out with your father?" Kelly sighed "Yes I suppose, but ever since the terrorist infiltrated his work last year, he's been impossible." Haswari looked up suddenly " I hadn't heard, was anyone harmed?" She nodded "Yes, everyone's made a full recovery though, but, Gibbs is incredibly protective of his team." Kelly laughed a bit "They are more like his children than me." Haswari stared at her, and seemed lost in thought for a moment before sliding a piece of paper over."Sorry to run out like this, but there are things I need to do today, here is your letter or recommendation." Kelly stood and hugged him goodbye "Thanks so much!" She said as she left the café.
Ari watched her go, musing what an interesting girl she really was. He had been enchanted with her in Israel all those years ago, and interested when she'd emailed him concerning advice about medical school. They had developed a friendship and then by some crazy stroke of luck, it had come to light that she was Special Agent Gibbs daughter. Of course, trusting Kelly had no idea, that he was the aforementioned terrorist, she had no idea that he was a mole in Hamas, and she had no idea that he was in Washington to kill Special Agent Gibbs.
