Chapter 62: Infiltration
When a piece crosses the invisible line, the opponent starts to panic.
No longer is a player's territory their own.
Behind enemy lines, the game becomes dangerous.
But for which one?
…
Tobias glared at the wall, and Aleksi was checking his guns.
Axel knew to keep quiet, since he was all alone with the two twisted members of the Nordics. And they were angry.
The Swede wished that Sigurd was still with them, but the Norwegian had departed with the rest of the magic trio, doing who knows what. Actually, it was best that he didn't know.
At the moment, Denmark and Finland wanted to get to Iceland in order to punish Gabriel, but they were unable to teleport to the land, and it was a little difficult trying to sneak onto an island. Even someone with magic would have difficulty at this point.
Axel looked over towards the mirror and got an idea.
"The mirrors…" he whispered.
This caused the other two to snap their attentions towards him.
"What did you say?" Denmark asked.
"The mirrors. Either our Iceland is there, or you could get to the other Iceland."
The Fin and the Dane exchanged a look. Tobias smirked, an idea forming.
"I think we can have Gabriel wait for a while," Tobias said. "I think it would be more fun to mess with the other one."
"But how do we get there?" Aleksi asked. "Norway left."
"There are other Nations that can go through."
…
Allen calmly strolled towards Matt's home.
It would take about another hour for him to reach it, but once he did…
He smirked, already imagining the other's face, and experimentally swung his bat against his leg.
He had yet to use the new bat against someone, so the nails weren't bent yet, and each one still had the optimum force of impact. He had made this bat especially for the Canadian.
He smirked, feeling the anticipation before a fight. And even if Matt fought back, he wouldn't be able to do much.
As a masochist, Allen knew how to take a punch, which was more than he could say for his opponent.
…
"Alright," Viktor said, "how long is it going to take?"
He and his sisters were at Romania's castle. The magic trio had arrived shortly before, and Marius was now searching for a specific spell. It was in a book called 'Spells to torture in ways that are exceptionally cruel'.
The dream spell isn't in that book, so one could only guess what kinds of things are in that book.
"In a minute," Marius said. "I've never used the spell before, so I'm not sure what the requirements are."
"Are we really going to rely on a spell that Romania has never used before?" Irina asked.
"Don't worry," Viktor said. "If Romania fails, he will be the one we punish, and then we'll find Bulgaria later."
"I'm glad he still thinks of me as male," Marius muttered. "That reminds me. Oliver, Sigurd, could you go look for a spell to turn us back to our old selves again?"
"Of course!" both said, and both immediately went to search through Marius's books.
Natasha hummed, walking closer to Marius.
"Hey, you met my counterpart before, right?" Natasha asked.
"Da," Marius said absentmindedly.
"What's she like?"
Marius looked at her, a bit of a disturbed look in her eyes.
"Long story short," Marius said, "she'll fit right in. I'd place her on equal grounds with Mexico. Then again, the other Mexico is also on the same level."
…
Rosa sneezed, and she blamed the Canadian air.
…
Nicolai shuddered.
For some strange reason, he had a feeling of terrible foreboding.
…
Felic stared at the two Nations with a bored expression.
"Let me get this straight," she said, "you want to go through to the other side, in order to get revenge on Iceland."
The Dane nodded, and Felic sighed.
"The only reason I'm helping is because I want to torture my counterpart, who decided he wants to be an insomniac," Felic said. "But we'll have to wait until he's alone. We don't want to complicate things too much. Especially because we'll be outnumbered in the other world."
"Are you saying that we won't be able to handle those weaklings?" Denmark asked, a dangerous gleam in his eyes.
Finland also looked somewhat murderous, and Felic sighed. When dealing with Vikings, one needed to pick their words carefully.
"Regardless of strength, they have numbers on their side," Felic explained. "A single wolf is weak compared to a bear. But a pack of wolves…"
Tobias scoffed.
"By comparing them to wolves, you're making them seem stronger than they really are."
"You seem to underestimate them. That time I saw a fight between some of us and some of them, I noticed that they can be quite the formidable opponent."
"Fine, anyone we should watch out for?"
"The women. They seem to have a bit of a ruthless streak. And I highly recommend you stay away from the other Russia. You heard what Viktor had to say about him."
The two Nordics nodded. After the first night where they could all play with their counterparts, Russia had been complaining about his counterpart being an 'overgrown, mentally unstable child who still needs to learn the limits of his strength'.
Oddly enough, America had mentioned something about his own counterpart being similar, except for the 'mentally unstable' part.
…
While the others were busy, Natasha had decided to use the tunnel underneath Romania's castle to sneak into Bulgaria.
She hid in the shadows, watching the three figures interact.
She immediately noticed her brother's counterpart, and couldn't help but wonder what he was doing there. She couldn't help but cock her head at the childlike expression on his face.
But she didn't come to spy on the other Russia. She had come to spy on Bulgaria. And she smirked.
Both Bulgarias were there, and Nicolai was still busy with securing his border. It would seem her threat had made him even more defensive than he already was.
But her eyes zeroed in on the other Bulgaria. Marius had mentioned that his name was Dimitri. She inwardly chuckled, knowing that what the others had in mind could be possible now.
They had hoped to just abduct Nicolai and use magic to bring his counterpart through, but with Dimitri already there, it was so much easier.
…
Matt kept looking outside the window, feeling nervous.
It didn't help that Kumakaze had gone out to hunt, and unfortunately the only useful ally he had at the moment was Rosa. He would not acknowledge Alfred as useful.
He couldn't help but think that something bad was going to happen.
…
Allen calmly walked towards the Canadian's home.
There was no need to rush. If he knew Matt, he wouldn't leave until he was absolutely sure that his lands were secure. And it was only a matter of time before the humans alerted the Nation of the unconscious woman they had found just outside the border.
It would especially be concerning for the Canadian once his people found out that the woman was another Nation. And if Argentina managed to get the message to Matt about how she had ended up unconscious…
He smirked, knowing that the Canadian would challenge him to a fight. Matt would try to drive him out of his country. But Matt wasn't a masochist, like he was. The Canadian had a limit to how much pain he would be able to take, before his body started to falter. And Allen enjoyed the feeling of pain, and wouldn't try to limit his movements because of it, but would work harder to make sure that he felt every sudden stab of pain.
In short, the Canadian didn't stand a chance.
He then wondered if the Canadian had company, specifically a certain pork chop. He smirked, the idea of fighting Alfred again exciting him as well. And if there was someone else, then he would be able to watch as one of the others was shattered by him.
…
Feliks felt a shudder go down her spine. She kept having the feeling that she was being watched. Well, it wasn't too strange, actually. Ever since this whole thing started, it was normal to feel as though they were being watched.
But this particular time, it felt as though she was being watched for a specific reason. That meant that Felic was planning something.
She watched Toris as the Lithuanian was preparing something salty for them, Raivis hovering close to her. She couldn't help but admit that the female version of her best friend had a motherly aura, and it was that very comforting aura that she wanted at the moment.
Especially if her counterpart was planning something. She would need that comfort for whatever her counterpart had in mind.
…
Natalia was wandering through the halls. With her brother not there, she needed something else to do.
She heard singing and she stopped. She couldn't identify the language, but she had a feeling that it was a Romance language. She had heard Romanian before, and could identify a few similarities.
She frowned, following the sound of the singing. It was strange to find a room filled with paintings, and the one that was responsible for it all was working on another painting at a speed that should have been impossible.
"What are you doing?" Natalia asked with her usual harsh voice.
The other turned to face her, a smile on his face, but there was an insane gleam in his eyes. Not a dangerous insane, but more of a damaged-beyond-repair-but-able-to-smile insane.
"Hello Belarus," the other said, before he turned back to his painting.
She scowled, looking at all of the paintings that he had already completed. She could almost follow the story. It was similar to some of the things that she herself had seen when she was trying to wrap her head around what was happening.
"You will be meeting your counterpart soon enough," the other said, and the Belarusian snapped her attention back to him.
"And how do you know that?" she asked.
"Because she is curious. She will try to convince her brother and sister to bring her along."
"And why should I care about that?"
"Because, the way your meeting will go seems to be taking a dangerous course. You need to try to determine how it would go yourself."
Natalia scoffed, before she turned around sharply. This Nation didn't make any sense to her.
She would have to find it out for herself then.
…
Ferdinand listened as the Belarusian left. He chuckled, working on his current painting.
The two Bulgarians, attached at the waist. More connected than any of the others.
He wondered if Belarus would go and find out for herself what was happening, like she found out about the dragon in danger. He could only see the present, and future events that were already put into action at present.
Having someone who could truly see the future would be a great benefit. And perhaps some of the things that the Venezuelan would have painted would no longer be put on canvas.
…
Viktor smirked, looking at the screen on his phone.
"Natasha says that both Bulgaria's are in his home," he said. "He also said that Ivan is there."
"That makes things easier," Marius said as she and the rest of the magic trio started gathering the necessary ingredients. "If you want, you can go and get the other Bulgaria, while we prepare the spell."
"Good," Irina said, placing her hand on her brother's arm. "This will be fun then, da?"
…
Feliks was going back towards her room. Frankly, she was getting tired, her sugar high having worn off. She needed to crash.
Luckily, Alfred had already shown her how to make a dreamcatcher, and she and Toris had worked on it while she allowed her stomach to settle between candy binge sessions. So, hopefully it would stop Felic from attacking her in her sleep. Again.
Toris was also going to sleep, since Feliks had kept her up most of the time, but first the Lithuanian had to unlatch a certain terrified Latvian.
The Pol had a feeling that her best friend would quickly become a mother-figure to the youngest Baltic, and possibly to a few of the other young Nations as well.
…
Manuella was not amused. Why?
Because she was on babysitting duty.
The Micro Nations from the other world had yet to return to their own, and someone was left to watch over her. Sadly, that someone was her.
And why were the Micro Nations so loud?
Omar entered the room, sparing the Micros a glance before she went towards the door on the other end, but Mozambique grabbed onto her.
"Please, save me," she said.
The Egyptian looked over towards the Micros, then looked back to her fellow African Nation, a small, nervous smile on her face as she shrugged her shoulders.
You're on your own.
Manuella slumped, before they both flinched as a crash resounded. Mozambique looked over towards the Micros, seeing the very expensive vase in pieces.
"Alida is going to kill me," she deadpanned.
…
Felic smirked, looking at the image in the mirror.
"He's alone," Felic said, turning to the two Nordics. "Time to go."
…
Matt sighed when his phone rang. When he saw that it was one of his lieutenants, he knew that there was serious trouble.
"What is it?" Matt asked.
"Sir, we found someone lying unconscious just outside the border. It's a Nation."
"Who is it?"
"It's Argentina."
Matt paused. He knew that the South Americans were also keeping watch at his borders. Which meant…
"She is an ally," Matt informed the human. "So do not attempt to harm her. Has she regained consciousness?"
"No sir."
"Inform me right away when she wakes up. And search the perimeter. Whoever knocked her out is most likely inside the border."
"Yes sir."
Matt hung up the phone turning to his guests. Alfred and Rosa were distracted by an argument, so they heard nothing of the conversation.
"We have a problem," Matt informed them.
Upon hearing his statement, the two stopped their argument and turned to him.
"What kind of problem?" Rosa asked.
"Argentina was found outside my border, unconscious," Matt said. "And there's a chance that whoever did that is in my country, and on their way here."
"Finally!" Alfred said, pumping his fist. "Something good is happening."
Matt glared, and Rosa smacked the American upside the head.
…
Viktor and Irina were walking along the tunnel underneath Romania's castle, which was connected to Bulgaria's home. It was actually a nice tunnel, and apparently, Bulgaria was ignorant about its existence.
"Ivan is there as well," Viktor informed his older sister. "He might cause problems."
"We could try to avoid him," Irina said. "We'll just make sure that our target is alone."
"And if it doesn't work out well, I will distract him and you escape with the target."
"Should we have Natasha distract Nicolai?"
"Only if it is necessary."
…
Just when Feliks placed her hand on the doorknob, a hand was placed on her mouth.
"Hello, Feliks," a voice whispered.
Feliks's eyes widened. She recognised that voice. It was her own voice.
Felic.
Felic pulled her closer to her body, pinning both her arms behind her back as well. Two figures came into view, and Feliks's eyes widened.
"If you don't want us to hurt you too much," the other Denmark said, "then you will point us to Iceland."
Feliks started to struggle, and the other Finland moved closer. The Fin pulled a dagger out of his sleeve and stabbed Feliks in the shoulder. The blonde screamed, but it was muffled by her counterpart's hand.
"Let's try that again," Denmark said.
…
Dimitri had gone to Nicolai's kitchen. He seriously hoped that his counterpart had yogurt in his fridge. He was in the mood for his favourite treat.
He was searching through the fridge when he felt a large hand on his mouth, and the other hand managed to grab both of his wrists.
He started to struggle, his muffled cries echoing through the kitchen.
"We have him," a female voice said. "Let's go."
Dimitri paused. He knew that voice. But he had never heard that much malice in the voice before. Never before had he heard ice in that voice before.
Never before had he been afraid of Ukraine.
…
The magic trio were busy working, a cauldron in the centre of the room. The contents were a sickly green, the liquid bubbling thickly.
Marius moved towards a cabinet. She opened it, revealing boxes and several bottles. She took a box labelled 'Bulgaria' and brought it over towards where her two friends were.
She opened the box, revealing bottles. She removed one, revealing several locks of blond hair. She removed a few strands and threw them into the brew. She then took a bottle that was filled with teeth, withdrawing a few and throwing them inside as well. She then took a third bottle that was filled with blood, and promptly emptied the contents of the bottle into the cauldron. Finally, she took a bottle filled with fingernails and deposited a few into the cauldron as well.
"I'm surprised by how much material you have of Bulgaria," Oliver commented.
"I like to use him for spells," Marius said, shrugging.
The contents of the cauldron had become a deep red.
…
Emil was reading a text from Lukas. He had said that because of the trouble involving New Zealand, they would be staying in the other world for a while longer. If anyone would be able to protect them, it was the Southern Powers.
Also, Lukas requested to be called 'Big Brother', simply because he couldn't remember what it felt like to be a man. Emil had no response for that.
His door opened, and he was about to yell at whoever barged in when he froze, eyes wide.
The intruders looked like Mathias and Tino, only a lot more frightening.
"Hello, Iceland," the Dane said. "You're coming with us."
…
"Are you sure?" Matt asked.
"I think I would know who was responsible for knocking me out," Argentina said flatly on the other side of the line.
"Good to know," Matt sighed. "Take care of yourself."
"Will do. For some reason, he didn't hit me with his bat. The nails looked new. I think it was specially made."
"Thanks for the warning."
He hung up the phone.
"So who did it?" Alfred asked.
"Allen."
The three immediately turned to the door as the banging started. Matt reached for his hockey stick, and the door was broken down.
The thing that's going to happen to Bulgaria… It was actually foreshadowed a few chapters back.
Also, the hair, teeth, nails and blood… It's to give an idea of what kinds of torture Marius had put Nicolai through. As mentioned, Nicolai is terrified of Marius. Can you blame him?
