It was finally Saturday morning. Stephanie woke with a racing mind and smile that made her cheeks ache. Carlos had called last night to say that he would come pick her up at noon. She had no idea what was happening but she was beyond curious. She was giddy with excitement. She felt a bit silly but then again when it came to him she couldn't care less. He made her heart race and her stomach drop in a way that was entirely too pleasant. By the time she had gotten out of bed her head was in a frenzy!

She didn't really know what the plan was so she spent a good 30 minutes staring at her closet from her bed trying to imagine outfits that worked for everything. At this point she was just going for an outfit that would work for anything. She slipped into a pair of worn jeans that molded perfectly to her butt. At least her butt would look good. She grabbed a black t-shirt that was a bit too snug and decided to go with it. Stephanie was a firm believe that a pair of jeans that fit right with a t-shirt that hugs you works for anything. She grabbed a light cardigan in a lilac color that she knew made her eyes stand out. That had been easier than she thought...

She was slipping on boots when her mother called to her.

"Mary Lou is on the phone for you. Why is she calling at this hour? It's so close to the time of your date. Have you talked to her about how rude it is to call when she can't be sure you're home? She never leaves a message. She just calls..." Her mother continued to ramble and she continued to ignore it. She ran to the phone and picked it up.

"Hey!" Steph said quickly.

"What are you wearing on your date?" Her best friend asked immediately. You can always count on your best friend to help you out in the fashion department. Mary Lou had a pretty good eye for visualizing things and had yet to steer her wrong. She described her outfit. She could practically hear Mary Lou nodding.

"What are you doing with you're hair?"

Steph played with a wild curl. "Nothing. I'm bringing a clip in case of an emergency."

"Okay. I expect details! You go finish. My mother is complaining about how long this is taking." The line went dead.

Stephanie was running around in a hurry to tame some of her more difficult strays and find a purse. How could she not own a purse? Oh, right. There isn't a point. You never have to carry makeup for touch ups when you hang with Mary Lou, she reminded herself. She ran into her mother's room and grabbed the leather bag she had bought her for Mother's day. Sorry, Ma, it's an emergency! She through stuff into it. She didn't really know what. Purses always seemed the kind of things that hold everything useless so she through anything in there.

She was putting on one last coat of mascara when the doorbell rang. She hastily finished and headed down the stairs. Her mother was staring at Carlos while he talked to her father. They seemed calm. In fact, her dad seemed pleased. Her mother looked shocked. She didn't care as long as they didn't embarrass her.

"Hey, Carlos. I'll be back in a second; I need to get my purse." She said before running back up and swiping it off her bed. She was next to Carlos again in no time. "Let's go." She smiled at him brightly. His hand was warm on her hip and his smile turned her into jelly.

This was going to be good!

It is short. The date will be longer!
