Yusei: "It had been six months since our battle with the Dark Signers. And once we decided that we should keep no more secrets, we told New Domino City everything that happened at the time. Of course we thought of the consequences society as we know would suffer, but the people deserve to know the truth. Surprisingly most people took the news better than we expected, and now we're known to them as heroes. And soon after, the city had received... a bit of a facelift. The divide between City and Satellite was no more, and even more importantly, so was the tension between the two people from each of those districts. For the first time in a long time, the future was finally beginning to look up... If only I'd known the horror of what was to come. We'd saved the world once before, but now I wonder if our decks are strong enough to withstand this mysterious new threat."

In the Security headquarters in Domino, Lazar is pacing frantically in his office. "I can't stand the pressure! It's too much to take!" he slammed his hands down on the tiny desk before continuing to pace rapidly back and forth, "I'm going to crack! After all, it's not every day you meet your new boss, the boss of the whole city! The new Director!" the phone on the desk suddenly rings, and Lazar angrily picks up the handset. "I told you, no calls!"

"Actually, you said no calls except for emergencies, and we have one!" the caller said, "A meteor has struck the city!"

" You call that an emergency?!" Lazar screamed, then actually absorbed what he said, "...Wait, a meteor? Oh, dear! Now that's what I call an emergency!"

A huge black monolith stands unsupported. The sun glares over the edge of it, illuminating the opposite side of it while casting this side into shadow. Four individuals stand before it in a crater created by the impact that appears to be maybe fifty feet in diameter and ten feet deep at its center, all wearing white robes and headcloths. The first one to speak is taller than one but shorter than the other two, "Excellent. It has arrived in one piece."

The shortest of them is distinguished also by the stone frame he wears around his shoulders under his robe, crossing in front to form the appearance of an infinity symbol. He wears a stone mask covering his right eye, that swivels with the appearance of a chameleon's eye. "Yes, and already left quite the impression, I'd say!" he chuckled.

The first of them is thin, of medium build. He has a black mark on one cheek descending in a spike from his natural eye, whose iris is an unnatural red but otherwise normal, and He also has an apparatus similar to the second's for his right eye, "What else do you expect?" he smirked, "It's my card."

"That it is. So I guess you'll be first?"

"Let's not get ahead of ourselves," The forth and final of the four to speak is huge, taller than the rest and also wider; his stone mask covers his mouth, distorting his voice. One of his shrewd dark gray eyes gazes up at the stone, and the other is hidden behind a tuft of grey-brown hair that's part of a long, gray beard. "Remember, there's a plan; and we must follow it."

"Of course I remember," the first said, "I came up with it. And it's perfect. I've arranged it so that no one can stand in our way."

Suddenly their attention is drawn towards the sound of sirens as several Security vans pulled up at the edge of the crater. Lazar is the first out of one with the troops unloading, "Hey! Who are you people?! What're you doing here?!" he demanded, "I order you to vacate these premises now!"

"And I order you to watch your tongue, worm!" the largest one looked over his shoulder.

The first one turned to face the large group, "My friend, all is fine. There's no cause for alarm."

" No cause?! Just who do you think you're talking to-!"

Lazar stopped short when the second one swiftly points a sharp sword right between his eyes, an inch from his face. "Now, now. Is this really how you wanna start things off, with your new Director?"

"New- Directors?" Lazar stammered, "-You mean—"

"Yes."

"You see, Sector Security will be in the hands of this young lady right here." The smallest one stepped forth and laughed.

"She's the new Director!? Oh my word!" Lazar knelt on the ground and bowed deeply. "I'm sorry; no one told me! I beg your forgiveness!" Lazar jumped up and shouts at the officers now assembled in a straight line behind him. "What're you buffoons standing around for, these are the new Director! Salute her!"

"Ten-hut!" the guards choired.

" That's better! And from now on you're to do whatever she says, understood?!"

"Yes sir!"

The new Director smirked from under her cloak as she fiddled with her collection of crest-shaped pendants. 'This will be even easier than I imagined...'

At night, on a street somewhere in Domino, a guy was riding a blue duel runner. Suddenly a huge shadow loomed over him. He turned and looked up, the face of the monster reflected in his helmet visor; a white shell, black face, with glowing red lines. The duelist cries out in fear...

Later…

A few Security cars were on the scene, with a few low-ranks looking around. They hear the sounds of more vehicles approaching. The officer standing by the cars waves a red glow stick to flag down the newcomers. "We got company. Time to see who Headquarters sent us."

Mina flashed her Security badge, all business. In the six months her cropped lavender hair has gotten slightly longer, though otherwise she's much the same. "Mina Simmington, Sector Chief of Special Investigations."

Beside her, Trudge shows his badge also. Instead of his usual uniform, he's wearing a button-up white shirt and carries a coat or blazer slung over his shoulder. The six months have done him good; he looks taller, more at ease with himself. "Officer Tetsu Trudge, Vice-Chief."

"How's the victim?" Mina asked as they're lead into the crime scene,

"Pretty banged-up, can't stay conscious for more than a few minutes or so."

"Guess we'll have to wait for his testimony, then..." Mina mused.

"And from the looks of that runner..." Trudge began; when they entered the scene, the runner from earlier had been scorched and melted halfway into scrap, "It'll be some story. That's five of these accidents in a week."

" These are no accidents, Trudge… the city is under attack."

The next morning…

In a large basement somewhere, Yusei Fudo, Jack Atlas and Crow Hogan are up tinkering with a duel-runner on blocks. The computer screen shows several different readouts, all of them various shades of red through Yusei's safety goggles. "She's purring like a kitten. A few more tweaks and we should be able to test this new engine at full throttle!"

"Forget 'a few more tweaks', Yusei, I say test it now!" Crow insisted.

"Why not? With Jack Atlas in the driver's seat, what could possibly go wrong?" when Jack stepped on the accelerator, the screen suddenly flashed on alert.

"A lot!" Yusei panicked, "Jack! Lay off the accelerator!"

"Accelerate more?! Okay!" Jack shouted over the roar of the engine.

"No, decelerate!" Crow yelled.

BOOOOOOOM!

And thick black smoke exploded through the basement, even bursting into the bedroom where Magic's sleeping. She choked on the fumes as she shot up, disturbed from the peaceful dream she was having, "Oh, come on!" that was the umpteenth time this happened. She jumped off her bed and stomped out onto the basement floor, "How many time do you have to blow something up?!" she huffed when she saw the three guys scattered about on the floor. "You guys alright…?"

"Yeah, we're alright…" Crow groaned.

Jack sat up over the debris, "The duel-runner, on the other hand…"

The machine in question was reduced to twisted metal junk, "Can't you guys build something for once without breaking it halfway?" she groaned.

"Why're you blaming us?" Crow asked, "That was all Jack."

"I beg your pardon?!" Jack complained, "You were the one who told me to go full-throttle!"

"Please, since when does Jack Atlas, the so-called 'Master of Faster', the 'Sultan of Speed', do what someone else tells 'im to do? Clearly I was just testing your judgment, a test you failed I might add."

" Why, you...!"

" Bring it on!"

"That's enough!" everyone looked up towards the stairs to ground-floor level. There stood a tough old woman in a plain dark blue old-fashioned dress and a very severe bun, almost as severe as the scowl on her face.

"Uh-oh, our landlord." Crow groaned.

"Aw, she doesn't scare me!" Jack scoffed.

"Oh, is that so, mister tough guy?" the landlord hissed, "Well, does living on the streets with the rats scare ya?! 'Cause I'm this close to tossing you bums OUT!"

"Wait! No, you don't understand...!" Jack stammered, "That explosion- it was just—"

"Just nothing!" Jack snapped, "I'm sick and tired of all your excuses so don't even bother with them!"

"Sorry, Zora," Yusei apologized, "We've been working on the new engine again."

"Ahh...! Yusei, dear, say no more," Zora swooned down the stairs, he scowl disappeared, "You go ahead and make all the noise you want. After all, you did save the world from those Dark Signers," she the whispered, "I know you say it was all four of you, but you really just ought to quit being so modest!

"Sure, whatever you say." Yusei blankly replied.

Outside sirens blared as a plain black car pulls up outside around the chattering crowd. Zora walked outside as Trudge stepped out of the car. "Oh dear, please accept my apology. I know my tenants can be a bit noisy, but they really mean no harm… Well, maybe half of them do, but Yusei..."

Trudge smirked, "Relax, that's not why we're here. No, I'm afraid there're even bigger issues at hand."

"Oh, my...! It sounds serious!" Zora said as Yusei, Jack, and Crow have joined them outside.

"Gentlemen, if you don't mind," Mina said, "let's talk inside."

Trudge and Mina stood over the runner wreck in the center of the room while Yusei is still picking through it. "Don't tell me you guys are *still* working on that new duel engine prototype...?" he asked.

"We sure are," Yusei said, "And if we can ever get the thing to work right, it'll really take our game to the next level."

"And that's what it's gonna take to win the World Racing Grand Prix, the toughest, roughest duel contest ever to hit New Domino City," Magic added, "It'll be here before we know it!"

"Right," Jack agreed, "and since it's three duelists to a team, creating one new engine design that we can all use is the best way to soup up all our runners at once, and guarantee that victory and dueling immortality will be ours!"

"What more do you guys have to prove? You already saved the world," Trudge pointed out, "If y'ask me, it's all right for you to rest on your laurels a bit."

"No way! A true duelist never rests," Crow rebutted, "He's always training and getting better! Isn't that right, Yusei?"

" That's right, Crow," Yusei agreed, "But winning the Grand Prix isn't what I'm training for. True; we may have saved the world, but it was close, too close for comfort. We nearly lost everything that we care for. Crow, I know you Magic and Jack came out of it more sure of your duel skills than ever... But as for me, I've never been more uncertain."

Mina cleared her throat, "Speaking of uncertainty..."

"Sector Security has its fair share these days." Trudge finished.

"Lemme guess; that's why you're here." Jack said.

"Have you heard the rumors? About the Ghost?"

Yusei narrowed his eyes, "The Ghost...?"

"Yeah, I think so!" Crow answered, "He's that guy who's supposed to appear at night, challenge you to a duel, an' then force you into a crash, right?"

"As you know, when New Domino City and Satellite were linked up, turbo-duels were legalized. It didn't take long before all types of special courses were being built; but it wasn't until the Grand Prix was announced, and they came out with that new Speed World 2 card, that things really went into overdrive."

"Yeah! This place practically became ground zero for mass turbo-dueling!" Magic pointed out.

"Of course they were! There's no better way to sharpen your skills for the Grand Prix than with a freewheelin' turbo-duel!" Crow added.

"I agree..." Mina said, "because there are supposed to be safety-measures in place to make sure that no one gets injured."

" Wait, are you saying that Ghost's not a rumor, that he's real and he's found a way to bypass the safety measures?!" Jack asked.

"That's correct, Mister Atlas," Mina praised, "You're quite astute."

"Don't tell 'im that, Chief, it'll go to his head!" Trudge hissed.

"Well, you want him caught, right?" Magic asked, "I mean someone can go out in the middle of the night and catch the Ghost red-handed. It's a no-brainer!"

"Exactly right!" Trudge said and looked at Yusei, "So how 'bout it?"

"Uh, so how about what?"

"Ohh, no!" Crow snapped, "I know where you're goin' with this, Trudge, and you can just forget it! Don't get me wrong; I hate that people're getting hurt, but we've got the Grand Prix to prepare for and we don't have any time to spare! You guys're Security, you take care of it!" he then preceded to pushing Trudge and Mina out the door, "Thanks for droppin' in! Great seein' ya! Bye!" Finally he bolted it shut after closing it, "Now, let's get back to work, shall we?"

Afterwards, Trudge and Mina were driving one of Domino's highways.

"You take rejection pretty well, Trudge."

"How else should I take it? What Crow said was right. Just because they saved the city once shouldn't mean they have to step up every time there's a problem. They should be allowed to live their lives however they like. We're Security, so we should catch this guy."

"But how?"

'By doing exactly what Crow suggested…!'

Later that night, Trudge's idea went in motion as he raced out of Security's garage with a battalion of officers lead by him, "Feels good to have a duel disk strapped on. In fact, I don't think I've had a turbo-duel in the line of duty since the good old days with Yusei! And if he had the chops to save the city, then so do I! And tonight, I'm gonna prove it to everyone!"

"Unidentified duelist approaching." His runner's console answered his prayers when he alarmed him of another runner coming towards him.

"Whaddaya know, an unregistered duel runner. Jackpot, it must be the Ghost!" he smirked as he watched the pursuer on-screen, "And he's forcing me into a turbo-duel; perfect! Let's do this! I activate the field-spell, Speed World 2!" he tapped a button and the new field-spell came to life.

"Duel mode, engaged. Autopilot, activated."

A wave of purple light spreads out from Trudge's runner, tinting the clouds above fuchsia. Big, illuminated, and very visible signs pop up at intervals along the road, each reading DUEL LANE. Trudge changed lanes as a holographic barrier springs up between the lane he changed into and the rest of the street. He coasts around a corner and his opponent follows. They're now traveling on one of the narrower tracks with rounded edges, built especially as highways for duel-runners.

Trudge: 4000 (0)

Ghost: 4000 (0)

"Hope you can keep up! My move!" Trudge drew his sixth card, "And I summon (1) Samurai Sword Baron(4/ATK: 1600/DEF: 1200)!" a wild-haired samurai warrior in green and white appeared with a pair of long blades strapped to his back (ATK: 1600), "But since I went first, I can't attack with him. So I'll end my turn there!"

"Then it's to me!" the Ghost drew his next card, "And I summon (2) Wise Core(1/ATK: 0/DEF: 0) in DEF mode." A large, egg-shaped object appeared, appeared cracked in two with a glowing ball inside (ATK: 0), "Also, I'll place 2 cards face-down."

'This is the duelist that everyone is so afraid of?' Trudge scoffed at his opponent, 'He plays a monster with 0 ATK points? Beating him and locking him up will be easier than I thought!' "I'm gonna put you in cuffs, Ghost! My turn!" Trudge drew his next card, "I summon Jutte Fighter!" the small enforcer appeared (ATK: 700), "And now I'm going to tune 'im with my Samurai Sword Baron for a synchro-summon! Say hello to Goyo Guardian!" the two warriors merged into the kabuki warrior synchro-monster (ATK: 2800), "And say goodbye to your monster because when Goyo Guardian takes down that Wise Core, he steals it to my side of the field! Do your thing, Goyo!" the warrior twirled his baton and tossed it at Wise Core.

"Not so fast! I activate "Negate Attack"!" Negate Attack's shielding force repelled Goyo's lasso.

Trudge groaned, "So that's how you wanna play it, huh, Ghost?! Fine, you may've stopped his attack, but his ATK points are still locked and loaded for next round! But before we get to that, take this: I activate the Speed Spell - Count Up! It lets me gain 2 speed-counters for every card I send to the graveyard!" he discarded one card.

Trudge: 4000 (5)

Ghost: 4000 (3)

"Next I activate the effect of Speed World 2! Now by removing 4 speed-counters, I deal 800 points of damage for each speed-spell in my hand! And since I currently hold 2 speed spells, you take 1600 points of damage! Feel the heat!" Trudge's attack appeared in the form of a wave of fire from his rear engine. He then falls behind due to his reduced speed.

Trudge: 4000 (1)

Ghost: 2400 (3)

Hey, look on the bright side; since you took damage from Speed World Two, you don't lose any of your speed counters," he snickered, "Your turn now!"

"And I'll make you pay with it!" the Ghost drew his next card, "I activate the trap Spark Breaker! It destroys all the monsters on my field!" the card crackles with electrical energy, and Wise Core disintegrates.

"What?! Why would you wanna destroy your own monsters?"

"Because, when Wise Core's destroyed due to a card-effect, I'm allowed to summon Machine Emperor Wisel from my deck or hand!" above the Ghost and his runner, five glowing cards appeared fanned in midair, lighting up the sky.

Trudge winced away from the light, then looked up, shocked as Goyo Guardian gets sucked into the light, the glowing green infinity symbol above, and vanished, "No! Goyo Guardian!" a monster appeared around it with the infinity across its chest, its ATK rising well beyond Trudge's withstanding, "No way! What's happening?!"

A large, steel blade was the last thing he saw over his cries before a large explosion…

"Ugh, another night shift in the books," Crow yawned as he rides home late at night, "Holding down a job and being a full-time duelist sure takes it outta ya," Crow hears sirens as he rode past a loop of runner track, on which an ambulance has parked. He looks over at the accident, stops and takes off his goggles. Then he recognized Trudge, being loaded into the ambulance; Trudge wrapped in bandages like a mummy, and clearly in a lot of pain. "Trudge...! I gotta tell the guys!"

Minutes later, Yusei, Magic and Jack burst into the hospital.

"Where's Trudge?!" Jack asked.

"The E.R.!" Mina said.

"Will he make it?" Yusei asked.

"Will he be alright?!" Magic pleaded.

"The doctors aren't sure yet." Crow said.

They all turn at the sound of a door opening where they see Trudge being wheeled out into the hallway. All five hurried to his side.

"What happened?" Yusei asked, "Who did this?!"

"The Ghost...! Watch out...!" Trudge groaned, "Synchros are useless!"

"Whadda you mean?"

"There's no time to lose! Let's move!" the doctors wheeled Trudge through a door, and the light above it lights up, bright red. All five stand in the hallway for a moment, silent.

"So Trudge took on the Ghost all alone?" Jack approached Mina.

"I'm afraid so. He really took what you guys said to heart; that this was something Security should fix. But I guess it was a bit more than he could handle…"

Back in the basement…

"Man!" Crow punched the nearest wall. This is all my fault, I'm the one who turned him down! He's all banged-up because of me..."

"Stop it, Crow! It's not your fault!" Magic insisted.

"She's right," Yusei said, "Playing the blame game isn't gonna solve a thing. It certainly isn't gonna stop the Ghost."

"Then what?! Should we all just sit around here and pout?!" Crow asked.

"Actually..." Yusei tossed Crow his helmet, "I have a better idea. We go find the Ghost, and we take 'im down!"

"Right! No one hurts one of our pals and gets away with it!" Jack said.

In short order they yanked off the tarps covering their duel-runners, already ready to go.

"I guess we're done pouting!" Magic giggled, "It's time to get some payback!"

"All right! Let's go!" Crow said and shoved his helmet on.

The garage door open, their runners side-by-side. They revved their engines and raced up the ramp to ground level, out into the dark streets. They each split up into a separate freeway.

"Lovely night for a duel!" Jack said over the console.

"I'll say, and for some major payback!" Crow responded.

"I've been waiting for this for a long time!" Magic added.

Hours have passed since then but their target was nowhere in sight.

"Looks like the sun is startin' to come up." Crow said.

We've been riding around all night long and there hasn't been one sign of the Ghost!" Jack said.

"Ugh! I guess he doesn't have the guts to—" Suddenly Margaret's console started beeping as a duel-runner came speeding past her, "Uh guys, I think I found 'im!"

"Are you sure? Because there's someone right right ontop me!" Yusei's console beeped and a feed behind the runner showed a duel runner appearing over the horizon behind him. "The Ghost! It's just gotta be!"

"Wait a minute…!"

"There's two of 'im?!"

Margaret groaned, "Who cares! This one's mine!" she sped up, attempting to catch up with him, but the Ghost kept his distance. The chase continued until he dashed off the main highway and down a nearby ramp where Margaret still pursuit. Finally they came to a stop at a sloped riverside, at the edge of the city where Satellite can be seen. Margaret managed to take a good look at the Ghost as he dismounted his duel-runner: he was wearing a suit of slender, yet bulky blue armor, "So it's a ground-duel you want? Fine, then!" after Margaret stepped off of her runner, she opened a compartment from the back and retrieved her duel-disk, "It's been a long time since I dusted off this deck!" she activated her duel-disk as the Ghost did the same. "Let's duel!"

"Setting Speed World 2!" Yusei pressed the button on top of his right-side hand grip. The card image flashed across his runner screen as it switches to the dueling display.

"Duel mode engaged," the computer announced, "Autopilot activated," a ring of light spreads from Yusei's runner. The DUEL LANE signs pop up and a red glowing holographic barrier separates him from the main road.

"A turbo-duel is about to commence," the loudspeakers blared, "All non-dueling vehicles must vacate the combat lane immediately. Formulating cross-town duel course, and awaiting Central Grid Authority's official authorization… Authorization, granted."

The entire street is elevated a story upward by means of a rather extravagantly nifty mechanized system. The side of the elevated street bears a scrolling ticker that reads, 'DUEL LANE SET – CAUTION', "Combat lane transfiguration, underway. Combat lane transfiguration, underway." the track on top of the building lights up, backlit for easy visibility. Yusei and the Ghost race across it and onto a curve-sided runner track.

"Let's rev it up!"

Yusei: 4000 (0)

Ghost: 4000 (0)

"Me first!" the Ghost drew his first card, "And I think I'll summon Wise Core from my hand!" the egg-shaped monster appeared (ATK: 0), "Then I'll place one card face-down to end my turn!"

"A monster with zero ATK points...?" Yusei wondered, but drew his next card, "My turn now! You may not care for ATK points, but I tend to like them! Come on out, Max Warrior!" the lance-wielding warrior appeared (ATK: 1800), "Now, Max Warrior, attack Wise Core! Oh, and by the way. When Max Warrior attacks, he gains 400 points to help with his assault(ATK: 1800-2200)! Now let 'im have it!" Max Warrior flew in to jab into the monster.

"No, he'll keep it, because I activate the trap Labyrinth of Klein!" the Ghost revealed his reverse-card, "This makes all battle-damage for the turn become zero, and keeps any monsters from getting destroyed! But there's more. The monster that waged the attack now has his original attack points swapped with his original defense points!"

Max Warrior (ATK: 2200-800)

"He's protecting that Wise Core," Yusei muttered in wonder, "But the question is, why? Oh well. If I destroy it, it won't matter. Which is why I'm gonna special-summon Turbo Booster!" the next monster Yusei summoned was the two-pronged launching machine, "Ya see, since I successfully summoned a monster this turn, I'm now allowed to special-summon Turbo Booster from my hand. He won't hang around for long, but long enough for me to take down your Wise Core! That's right: since he mixed it up with Max Warrior, he's fair game to take down!" Turbo Booster itself exploded as it shot its arm-rockets toward Wise Core. Two direct hits and the monster was destroyed.

"Why, thank you," The Ghost scoffed, unfazed draws even with Yusei, "Fool! Don't you know? When Wise Core is destroyed due to an effect, all monsters on my field are destroyed; but I then get to summon (3) Machine Emperor Wisel Infinity(1/ATK: 0/DEF: 0)…" a wide, white capsule with a chrome infinity symbol appeared, "(4) Wisel Top(1/ATK: 500/DEF: 0)…" followed by a machine of similar color, in the shape similar to a cobra, "(5) Wisel Attack(1/ATK: 1200/DEF: 0)…" then a slender piece with an angular blade attached to the side, "(6) Wisel Guard(1/ATK: 0/DEF: 1200)…" then a shell-like saucer with nodes on its surface (DEF: 1200), "and (7) Wisel Carrier(1/ATK: 0/DEF: 0) from my deck or hand!" and finally a pair of leech-like boosters with a small center between them.

Wisel Infinity: (ATK: 0)

Wisel Top: (ATK: 0)

Wisel Attack: (ATK: 1200)

Wisel Guard: (DEF: 1200)

Wisel Carrier: (ATK: 800)

"Impossible!" Yusei gasped, "Five monsters summoned at once?!"

"That depends on how you look at it. I activate the special ability of Machine Emperor Wisel Infinity!" Two hatches open up on Wisel Infinity, each in the shape of a teardrop facing the other making an infinity symbol. The Attack and Guard pieces each unfolds to become an arm, the Carrier piece unfolds legs, and they start to snap together onto Infinity. A hatch opens in the top of Wisel Infinity, and the Top piece snaps down into it. The head unfolds; it's armored in porcelean-white metal like the rest of the giant robot, and its face is black with glowing red outlines. Green lights can be seen fusing and smoldering in its chest.

Machine Emperor Wisel Infinity: (ATK: 2500)

The Ghost cackled as the light of the rising sun glistened off its shiny metal, "From five comes one; and now you're done!"

Yusei turned back and looks up at the huge robot looming above him, ready to grab him off his duel-runner.

"Uh-oh. So much for payback…!"
