Jason steadied his speed while he rode through New Domino's streets. He sighed under his helmet as he waited out the short trip to his destination. It truly is the start of a dull day as it begins with carpooling; but that's not what bothers him as he stopped in front of the gate post leading to the luxurious Tops building. It's quite the opposite when he's going to pick up his favorite passenger.

Jason lift his visor and smiled, "Ready to go, Kat?"

"Jason! You're here!" a little girl with black hair and green eyes ducked under the bar and skipped to him. After hopping onto the runner she clung onto Jason's back for all she's worth. "Yeah, I'm ready to go!"

"Alright, off we go, then." Jason stepped on it and drove off to their destination. A while later they stopped at a lot where Jason parked his runner. "Well, here we are. I'll be waiting at the entrance for you after school, okay!"

"Okay!" Katherine nodded and jumped off with Jason. Today is another typical day at school, at Duel Academy in New Domino City. They approached the giant building next door, where the central tower looks like a 4-pronged duel-disk.

"Katherine!" More students her age came into view. Rico arrived with another girl with short, dark-brown hair, and also Leo with his twin, Luna as they carried their bookbags in their academy uniforms. The girls are in red Academy blazers over their blouses and skirts like Katherine while the boys wear their blue blazer open over a white shirt, red tie, and navy pants.

"Wanna walk with us to class, Katherine?" Luna asked. Katherine looked up to Jason, as if to get his permission.

"Go on, get on to class," Jason said, "Remember, just meet me at the door at the end of the day, okay?"

"Okay!" Katherine nodded and moved over to the group closer to her age.

There their teacher Miss. Barlett was waiting for them at the door. "Good morning, you two! You're both up in the Battle Dome today; did you build your decks?"

"You bet!"

"Hey, you guys!" the kids found Akiza and Magic coming up, waving at them.

"Hey there, Akiza!"

"'Hey' back atcha!"

"We saw you wipe the dome floor with that Anderson kid yesterday!" Luna said.

"You were awesome!" Leo said, "And you know what? By the end of the day, you and I are going to be fellow members in the Best-In-Class Club!"

"Neko Polefighter, attack!" her cat-eared warrior twirled her large staff and swung it down on Leo's comrade swordsman, destroying it and his life-points.

"The winner is, Katherine!" Miss Barlett announced. Katherine jumped and cheered while Leo huddled miserably on the floor in front of their peers, including Luna, Rico and Dexter. "You may have lost, Leo, but you lasted more than two rounds this time." She said, trying to comfort him.

"Leo, if you wanna be in the Best-In-Class Club, you have to actually win every now and then..." Luna retorted from there.

"It's not my fault, it's this stupid deck..." Leo groaned. He pulled out the top card from the deck and groaned even louder, "If only I'd been able to hold out until my next turn! I could've busted out my Power Tool Dragon!"

"Leo, what did I tell you about relying on favorites?!" Miss Barlett warned, "Our lesson this week is on warrior-type decks!"

"I know; but I'm just not a warrior guy! I do so much better with my Morphtronics!"

"Leo, duel me after you duel Nathan!" a heavy boy with brown hair named Bob pleaded.

"And then me after that!" a dark girl with blonde pigtails named patty added.

"Hey, everyone wants to duel me!" Leo bagan to cheer up, "I'm, like, the most popular kid in class!"

"Well yeah, that and, if we duel you it'll make us look better and our grades'll go up!" Bob said.

Leo fell over with embarrassment. "Well who can make me look better!"

"Um, nobody..."

As the class laughed away, some outrageous-looking guy surveying them from over the stands, "Yuk it up, little yuk-sters, 'cause tomorrow is your last day at Duel Academy!" he walked away, snickering.

As it was the last period of the day, the were leaving school for the day when they're being called back by one of their classmates.

"Are you going where I think you're going?" Patty and Bob were with Dexter, all of them are carrying backpacks that look specially built to accommodate the duel disks sticking out of them.

"Yea, you guys wanna come?"

"You bet we do!" Bob and Patty replied.

"Uh... maybe you should go home and study up on warrior decks." Luna insisted to her brother.

"I'll do that later!"

Luna sighed before he spotted another by with black hair walking by, "Hey, Sly. We're all gonna go hang out at our friends'. You, uh, you wanna tag along?"

"Please; I'm not the 'tag-along' type. But you guys have a good time being brain-dead lamewads." Sly retorted before he kept walking.

"That was harsh..."

"He's the wad-brain-lame one." Leo spat.

"I think that's the first time I've heard 'im speak." Dexter said.

"And hopefully the last!" Bob prayed, "Now let's get going, I cannot wait to meet these guys!"

"Yeah! I've been wanting to meet Yusei since he won the Fortune Cup!" Patty said.

"I'm sorry, but I can't," Rico apologized, "I'm supposed to walk home with Akiza-Oneechan after school."

"I can't go either," Coral said, "Kai gets worried when I'm not here for him to pick me up."

"What about you, Katherine?" Luna asked.

"Sorry, I don't think I can," Katherine smiled sadly, "Jason will be coming soon and I'd like his help for class tomorrow."

"Hey, Kat, over here!"

Katherine's ears perked as someone called out to her from the distance, "There he is right now! I have to go!" she skipped past her classmates to rejoin with Jason.

"There you are! Ready to go?" Jason asked.

"Yep! Let's get going!"

With that Jason and Katherine drove away from the school. Whenever Katherine needed a study partner she could rely on Jason to help her out. That's why they spend after school at the New Domino City Youth Center, where the vacant lot next to it is perfect for dueling.

And that's just the case. Once they reached the center they made it straight to the lot with their duel-disks equipped.

"Alright, let's see what you learned. Are you ready?" Jason asked.

"Ready!" Katherine replied and activated her duel-disk like Jason did.

"Let's duel!"

Katherine: 4000

Jason: 4000

"Okay, I'll go first," Jason drew his sixth card, 'Better start off small…' "I set one monster in DEF mode and end my turn." A set monster appeared on the field.

"It's my turn!" Katherine drew her card, "I summon Neko Warrior in ATK mode!" the silver-haired cat-eared ninja appeared in her blue-and-white uniform (ATK: 1400), "After that, I can send 3 cards from my deck to the graveyard! Then she gains 100 ATK points during each of her attacks for each one!" she searched her deck for three spell/trap cards to send to the graveyard. "And one of them is Neko-Polestaff! And since it's sent to the graveyard from my deck, I can add it to my hand!" Katherine showed the card before adding it to her hand, "Okay, Jason, I'm ready!"

"Okay, let's start with something easy: What's the name of the level-7 monster that gains power from an opponent's dragon-type monster?"

"I know that one!" Katherine answered, "It's Buster Blader!"

"Yes! Now I'll have Neko Warrior attack your face-down card!" Neko Warrior jumped off the ground and threw a few stars at Jason's set monster (ATK: 1400-1700). The monster rose up from under the card and blocked the stars with his giant shield.

"Sorry, Kat, but you just attacked Big Shield Gardna," Jason said, "You still take damage, but it did switch my monster's battle-mode." Big Shield Gardna switched to ATK mode (ATK: 100).

Katherine: 3100

Jason: 4000

"I'll end my turn, then." Katherine concluded.

"Then it's my move," Jason started his turn, "I summon Ghost Gardna in DEF mode," the white-armored phantom appeared next to Ghost Gardna (DEF: 1900), "Next I'll switch Big Shield Gardna back to DEF mode and end my turn (DEF: 2600).

"My turn!" Katherine drew her next card, "I summon Neko Girl in DEF mode!" another cat-eared monster appeared, which looked like an teen version of herself in a pink-and-white maid outfit, with white ears and a tail (DEF: 1500), "Then I activate the continuous-spell card Neko Penalty! That ends my turn!"

"It's my turn," Jason drew his next card, "I summon Field-Commander Rahz in ATK mode,"the silver-armored warrior appeared (ATK: 1600), "And thanks to his special-ability, I can move a level-4-or-lower warrior monster in my deck to the top," Jason pulled a card out and placed it on the top of his deck, "Now I'll have Rahz attack Neko-Girl!"

"I activate my Quick Reflexes trap card from my graveyard!" Katherine declared, "Since it's sent to the graveyard by Neko-Warrior's effect, I can remove it from play! Then I can negate your monster's attack!" Neko-Girl jumped away from Rahz's sword.

"Alright then, I'll end my turn with a face-down."

"It's my turn!" Katherine drew her next card, "And I summon Neko-Maid to the field!" a brown-haired neko appeared in a black-and-white maid outfit (ATK: 1400), "Next, I activate the spell card Neko-Gift and draw one card for each Neko monster on my field!" Katherine drew three cards, "Now I activate the spell Cat-Scratch Fever! And this card lets all my Neko monsters attack you directly! Now Neko-Warrior, Neko-Girl and Neko-Maid, attack!"

Neko-Warrior: (ATK: 1400-700-1000)

Neko-Maid: (ATK: 1400-700)

"Okay, here's the next question: How strong a monster can Obnoxious Celtic Guard protect himself against?"

"I know someone with that card! It can't be destroyed by monsters with 1900-or-more ATK points!"

"I guess you got that right, too." Jason said, right before Neko-Warrior dashed by with her blades.

Katherine: 3100

Jason: 3000

"Next question: Which Sasuke Samurai has an effect that requires a coin toss?"

"We went over that in class earlier! It's Sasuke Samurai #4!"

"That's correct." Jason took Neko-Girl's attack.

Katherine: 3100

Jason: 2000

"Here's another one: How much damage can Princess of Tsurugi inflict?"

"3000! 500 for each spot in the opponent's spell/trap card zone! And his field-card zone!"

"Correct!" Jason endured the last attack from Neko-Girl.

Katherine: 3100

Jason: 1300

"With that I end my turn!"

Neko-Warrior: (ATK: 1000-1400)

Neko-Maid: (ATK: 700-1400)

"It's my turn," Jason drew his next card, "I summon Rose, the Warrior of Revenge, in ATK mode!" the red-headed shinobi appeared (ATK: 1600), "Now Rahz will attack Neko-Maid!"

"I activate Neko Cylinder from my graveyard!" Katherine announced, "Now your attack is negated and you take damage equal to the attacking monster!"

"I'll counter your trap with one of my own from my field: Trap Jammer!" Jason declared, "This negates any trap activated during the battle-phase. That means Rahz continues his attack." Rahz destroyed Neko-Warrior with a cut of his sword.

Katherine: 2900

Jason: 1300

"Now Rose will attack Neko-Girl!" Neko-Girl was destroyed by Rose's blade. "And when she inflicts damage, you take 300 more."

Katherine: 2000

Jason: 1300

"With that, I'll end my turn."

"It's my turn!" Katherine drew her next card, "I summon Angel's Kitty to the field!" the small white baby cat appeared (ATK: 0), "Now I tune Neko-Maid with Angel's Kitty to synchro-summon Neko Polefighter!" the two felines merged and formed the tiger-striped staff-wielder (ATK: 2200), "Next, I equip her with the Neko Polestaff! That gives Neko Polefighter 800 ATK points!" Polefighter's bo-staff was replaced by a more decorative one (ATK: 2200-3000), "I'm ready for my next question!"

"How about this: What's the total ATK that Buster Blader can have on the field?"

"Let's see…" Katherine pondered, "If there could be five dragons on the opponent's field, and with the dragons in his graveyard… That's a trick question! There's no telling how many dragons would be in the graveyard!"

"That's…not the right answer."

"Huh?"

"Note the limit a full deck a duelist can have. That means there can be from 40 to 60 cards in a single deck, especially in the start of a duel. And if there's a limit to that, there's also a limit to how many cards you have."

"Oh…"

"Don't worry. Your battle-phase ends here but there's always another chance. Just wait next turn."

"Okay, I'll end my turn here."

"Then it's my turn," Jason drew his next card, "I summon Comrade Swordsman of Landstar in DEF mode," the petite landstar warrior appeared (DEF: 1200), "Next I tune Rose with Big Shield Gardna to synchro-summon Colossal Fighter!" the two warriors merged into Jason's colossal white signature monster (ATK: 2800), "And while he's out, he gains 100 ATK points from each warrior in the graveyard, including your monsters. And with the Comrade Swordsman out, all warriors on my fiend gain 400 more ATK points."

Comrade Swordsman of Landstar: (ATK: 500-900)

Field-Commander Rahz: (ATK: 1600-2000)

Colossal Fighter: (2800-3100-3500)

"Now, Colossal Fighter, attack Neko-Polefighter!" Colossal Fighter came in with a mighty fist but was held back by Polefighter guarding with her staff.

"Sorry, but while Polefighter has an equip-spell, she can't be destroyed in battle!" Katherine said.

"Fine then, I'll just end my turn."

Katherine: 1500

Jason: 1300

"It's my turn!" Katherine drew her next card, "My Neko-Polefighter is about to attack! But I'm ready for my next question!"

"Okay then, how about this one: There are two dragon-type monsters with one rider. Those dragons are Kiryu and Pitch-Dark Dragon What's the name of their master?"

"I read about those. The rider's Dark Blade!"

Jason smiled, "You're pretty good! That's right!"

"Yes! Now attack, Polefighter!" Katherine's monster advanced with her staff ready.

"Ghost Gardna, block her attack!" Ghost Gardna stood in the way and took Polefighter's full force that destroyed the monster. "Sorry, but Ghost Gardna can be chosen as an attack target instead of another monster. And when it's destroyed, your monster loses 1000 ATK points until the end of the turn. Also, with another warrior in the graveyard, Colossal Fighter gets 100 points stronger."

Neko-Polefighter: (ATK: 3000-2000)

Colossal Fighter: (3500-3600)

"Then I guess I should end my turn."

Neko-Polefighter: (ATK: 2000-3000)

"It's my turn," Jason drew his next card, "I equip Colossal Fighter with Assault Armor. This spell card gives him 300 ATK points. But as soon as I send it to the graveyard, he can attack twice this turn! Your monster may not be destroyed in battle, but she's still weaker." Colossal Fighter's fist slammed twice over into Neko-Polefighter, who still stood her ground.

Katherine: 300

Jason: 1300

"Finally, I place this one card face-down and end my turn." A reverse-card appeared.

"Then it's my turn!" Katherine drew her next card, "I activate the quick-play spell card Half-Shut, and use it to cut Colossal Fighter's ATK in half!" Colossal Fighter shielded itself from a blast from the spell card (ATK: 3600-1800), "It can't be destroyed in battle either, but at least it's weaker than Neko-Polefighter! Next, I equip her with Twin Swords of Flashing Light-Tryce! They take 500 points from Neko-Polefighter's ATK, but they also give her another attack!" the polestaff Neko-Polefighter held became fitted with slender glowing blades on opposite ends (ATK: 3000-2500), "Now I'm ready for another question, Jason!"

"How about this: What monster can you summon to destroy The Last Warrior from Another Planet?"

"How do you do that? That monster won't let any other monsters be summoned."

"…You make a good point. In fact, that's the answer!"

"It is?! Then Neko-Polefighter attacks Colossal Fighter!" Neko-Polefighter swung her bladed staff against the briefly-invincible Colossal Fighter, scoring a gash across its risen arms.

Katherine: 300

Jason: 600

"Now I activate the trap, Damage Condenser!" Jason revealed his reverse-card, "That last attack may have hurt; but now that damage will let me summon a monster from my deck up to the same about I took! And the monster I have in mind just happens to have just enough power to come out; Command Knight, I summon you to the field in DEF mode!" after Jason paid a card from his hand, the female knight in red appeared alongside the back line of defending warriors (DEF: 1900), "And with her out, she gives out another 400 points for every warrior on my field!"

Command Knight: (ATK: 1200-1600)

Comrade Swordsman of Landstar: (ATK: 900-1300)

Field-Commander Rahz: (ATK: 2000-2400)

Colossal Fighter: (ATK: 1800-2200)

"I have to admit, you really brought out quite a combo, Kat," Jason praised, "I don't know how many times I've seen your Neko-Polefighter in action, but even you managed to surprise me."

"Oh! Thank you! But I'm not done with Neko-Polefighter yet! I'm ready for the next question!"

"How many monster must Cyber Blader oppose to double her ATK points?"

"2 monsters!"

"That's right!"

"Now! Attack Colossal Fighter one more time!" Neko-Polefighter struck once more.

Katherine: 300

Jason: 300

"I place one card face-down and end my turn!" a reverse-card appeared.

Colossal Fighter: (ATK: 2200-4000)

"It's my turn," Jason drew his next card, "Colossal Fighter, attack Neko Polefighter!"

"I activate my face-down, Emergency Provisions!" Katherine revealed her quick-play reverse-card, "By sending my twin swords spell to the graveyard, I get back 1000 life-points!"

Katherine: 1300

Jason: 300

Neko-Polefighter: (ATK: 2500-3000)

Neko-Polefighter fought against Colossal Fighter's attack.

Katherine: 300

Jason: 300

"Then I end my turn with a face-down."

"It's my turn!" Katherine drew her next card, "I activate the spell card Battle-Tuned; and remove Neko-Maid from my graveyard from play so her ATK points can be added to Neko-Polefighter!"

Neko-Polefighter: (ATK: 3000-4400)

"Now she's ready to take your Colossal Fighter! I just need this last question and then she can attack!"

"Okay, then; How many ATK points can Colossal Fighter have at most?"

"How many? Let's see…if both duelists have 60 cards in their decks, and all of them are warriors and in the graveyard...60 time 100…take 60 100 times and you get 6000! And 6000 plus 2800 equals 8800! Colossal Fighter can have up to 8800 ATK points!"

"You know how to do your math. You got it right!"

"Yes! Now, Neko-Polefighter, attack! And take out his life-points!" Polefighter jumped over Colossal Fighter with her staff raided over her head. She swung down hard, but Colossal Fighter managed to catch it, leaving Polefighter hanging by her own weapon. "Huh?"

"Don't you remember? You're not the only one with a face-down," Jason revealed his own Battle-Tuned quick-play, "And all it costs is 100 ATK points from Colossal Fighter; thanks to the tuner-monster Rose I removed from play, her ATK points go to Colossal Fighter (ATK: 4000-3900-5400). So, your Neko-Polefighter just lost this battle. And you just lost this duel."

Katherine: 0

Jason: 300

"Aw, I goofed, didn't I…?" Katherine slumped down to her knees, "Phooey."

"You don't exactly mess up. You did managed to answer most of the questions," Jason said, "You learned more than last time and that's what you were aiming for, isn't it?"

Katherine became less depressed then, "I guess you're right."

"Right. Now let's get back inside. I'm hungry, how about you?"

"Okay!" Katherine smiled.

Jason hurried his way to Duel Academy with a package in tow. Unfortunately Katherine forgot her lunch in a hurry this morning and now he's en route for delivery. As soon he made it to the academy he made a beeline to the entrance, where someone he figured not from the school, happened to cross his path at the moment. "Yusei?"

"Jason?" the two Signers' eyes met, "You're here too?"

"Yeah, I'm just here to drop off someone's lunch. Why are you here, if you don't mind me answering?"

"Just here for a repair job," Yusei replied, showing Jason the small toolbox he's carrying with him, "What are the odds we'd run into each other here."

"Hey! What are you two doing here?!" an angry voice shouted from a distance. Both Jason and Yusei looked towards the building's entrance and became stunned by who's approaching them.

"Oh, no," Jason groaned, "Not him."

"You gotta be kidding me," Yusei agreed, "What's he doing here?"

Giant dark boots stomped towards them, belonging to a large and muscular dark-skinned man wearing a grey security uniform and a black officer cap, "Maybe you didn't hear me! What do you think you're doing here?!"

"Take it easy, Armstrong. We're just here for a little courtesy call," Yusei said, "We won't take long."

Takasu Armstrong leaned towards Yusei so they were face-to-face, and he smacked the clipboard he's been carrying, "Not if you're not on my list." He growled, Yusei winching from Armstrong's still-foul breath.

"Uh, it should be under 'Jason Hutchins'." Jason suggested, walking over and tapping on the clipboard.

"What? Yeah right. Lemme take a look…" Armstrong quickly looked over the list on the clipboard and after a while, his eyes widened. He knew expecting visitors have to call overtime and be put on the list, but it would be safe to say he didn't expect their names to be on his list. "Grrr… Are you two here together?"

"Just here for a delivery." Jason said.

"Business call." Yusei simply replied.

Armstrong checked his list again before returning his usual scowl, "Alright, you're clean… But just so you know, I don't like a bunch of punks running around my Duel Academy."

"Wait, your Duel Academy?"

"Well, it might as well be," Armstrong stated proudly, not noticing his hat slipping off of his head, "I've been working here for six months and there ain't never been any trouble on my watch," someone slipped out from Armstrong's shadow and began to mimic him pose for pose, "I am the head of security!" he saluted himself and took in a big whiff of fresh air, while holding his pants up by his belt, "Trouble is the name…" Armstrong noticed the two trying to keep from laughing figured it was lead elsewhere, but the figure stepped back just under Armstrong's blindspot.

"Six months sure is an impressive record." Jason noted.

"You bet it is!" Armstrong boasted, the person still copying him, "and I'm gonna make sure it stays…" he tried to tip his hat but when he realized it isn't in its natural place, he quickly spun around and caught Magic in the middle of posing, with his hat on her head, "Ohhh! So we got a wise guy, huh?" he took his hat back and glared at her, "I still got my eye on you, girlie." He growled.

"Um, excuse me, could you tell me where the elementary classes are held?" Jason asked.

"…Go to the building to your left. Administration'll know who's classroom you're looking for." Yusei and Jason walked off to where Armstrong pointed with Magic following close behind. But they didn't get far without him calling out to Magic, "Hey! And you better be walking to class, kid!"

Jason slowed back a bit so he could meet up with Magic, "You know your way around this school, don't you? Can you tell me where Katherine's class is?"

Magic's response came with an indecisive frown, "As a matter of fact, that's where I'm going…"

Meanwhile at their intended destination, there's already an uproar in the classroom until it was halted abruptedly by the vice-chancellor, the same person looming over their class at the arena the other day. But the students still have much more to protest.

"You're expelling our whole class?!"

"What's up with that, Heitman! What did we do wrong?"

"Last semester, the academic performance of this school rose up into the stratosphere of excellence like a lead balloon," the vice-chancellor hissed, "And for those of you a little too slow to comprehend sarcasm and metaphor, that means that it did not rise up! It plummeted to the depths of mediocrity faster than you could say 'failure', and it's because of your class!"

"Excuse me, sir, but with all due respect…" Miss Bartlett spoke from the side of the desk, "these kids are enthusiastic duelists! They want to learn and they will; I can vouch for their skill and potential."

"You see 'skill' in this lot? Perhaps you are part of the problem, Miss Bartlett!"

"Me? That's not true!"

Heitman's glasses flashed with malice. "Perhaps I'll suggest to the Chancellor that we should re-evaluate our teacher criteria, and then weed out our faculty accordingly!"

"Go ahead, Heitman. I'm not ashamed of my track record!"

Luna stood up, "It's not Miss Bartlett. We just haven't been giving it our best."

"But give us a little bit more time and let us *prove to you*- we're duelists." Leo added.

"You've had plenty of time to prove yourself and you've failed!" Heitman growled, "Especially you! You're at the bottom of the bottom of the bottom, Leo! And I'll tell you something else-" Leo was about to talk back before Akiza appeared from the halls and stomped into the classroom, "Attention, cretins, please welcome a real duelist."

But Akiza was less interested in praise as she strided to the desk Heitman's behind, "You can't expel this class, Heitman!"

What are you talking about, Akiza! I would think one boasting such discipline and aptitude as yourself, would certainly endorse my decision to jettison these parasites from our ranks!"

"How can you call yourself a teacher when you're willing to give up on the kids you're supposed to be teaching?!"

"Uh-oh…!" Luna gasped.

"Uh-oh's right!" Leo agreed, "If Akiza gets too worked up, this whole place'll come crashing down!"

"Uh, excuse me." Everyone turned and several students gasped as Yusei appeared at the door.

"Well ring my bell and sing me a ditty!" Heitman said with snide, "It's the Fortune Cup champion." Several rows of the class start cheering as Yusei entered the class with Jason and Magic following.

"Jason! You're here!" Katherine jumped out of her seat and made beeline towards Jason.

"Whoa! Easy there!" Jason warned as he was almost knocked over.

"So, what is it that brings you to the once-illustrious halls of Duel Academy?" Heitman greeted.

"I came here to do some repair work." Yusei replied.

"Wha-a-a-a? Come again?"

"I was told there was something malfunctioning in this classroom and that I should fix it if I could."

"I see. Well, I hope you aren't alluding to these rather pitiful goobers gathered before me. I'm afraid this sorry bunch of students is beyond repair!"

"That's not true, this class is full of potential!" Miss Bartlett protested.

"You know what? If you seriously wanna kick out this entire class because you don't think they're 'good enough', then whatever! But if they go then I go with them!" Akiza threatened.

"D'you think that's gonna stop me?!" Heitman huffed, "This Academy can't indulge the whims of every wannabe nimrod who only knows how to use worthless low-level cards!" Heitman waves up a holographic screen and scrolls through dossiers showing the students' files, specifically their cards. "Look at the sad roster of monsters these runts are toying with, week after week! It's an embarrassment! They can't handle real monsters, which means they can't handle a real duel, which means they have no real abilities! They're beyond teaching!"

Yusei's been listening the whole time, and apparently, he was not happy with Heitman's opinion, "I don't know what's going on, but I think the way you're talking about dueling is kinda messed up."

"My sincere apologies! I didn't know you were on the Duel Academy faculty! Oh wait you're not! So I don't care what you think! Now scuttle along and repair whatever it is you came here to repair!"

"I was asked to fix something called the Rudolph Heitman, d'you know where that is?"

"Wha? The 'Rudolph Heitman'?"

"Yeah. Apparently it has a few screws loose or something."

Heitman started gibbering, "I've got news for you! You are currently conversing with the Rudolph Heitman!"

Yusei was taken aback, "You!?"

"Heitman's the Vice-Chancellor." Luna informed.

"And he's planning on expelling our entire class from the Academy!" Leo added.

"He thinks we're not good enough to be here!" Patty said.

"He isn't giving us a chance!" Bob added.

"…Okay. I think I get it now," Yusei then smiled, "I was sent here to fix something, and that's what I'm gonna do. Hey, Heitman; ya wanna duel? If I win then this entire class gets to stay at Duel Academy.

"And if you lose, then these peons will spend the rest of the semester shopping around for an institution willing to accept them!" Heitman spat, "See you at the Battle Dome in ten!"

Later that day, elsewhere in the school…

"I just don't know what to make of it," Jason said, "I thought Katherine would be doing better. We couldn't have been spending all that time studying for nothing…"

"That's just it; their combined grades aren't bad enough to be considered failing," Margaret explained, "This is just Heitman being a perfectionalist."

"That's it? Then this guy really has issues."

"Took the words right out of my mouth! …Hey, this may be unrelated, but how about we duel while Yusei's busy with whatever he's doing?"

"Wait, shouldn't we be supporting Yusei? I mean, those kids' futures depend on Yusei's win. Katherine's future depends on it."

"Jason, you do remember who we're talking about, right? Besides, we know each other for a while and we haven't dueled once. What better time than now?"

Jason looked what strapped on his arm, "Is that why you tossed a duel-disk at me?"

"How'd you guess? So, you gonna duel or aren't you?"

"You really want a duel, huh?" the two stopped walking and ended up on a meadowy field somewhere near the school. There he stood in position and activated the duel-disk. "Alright, let's do this."

"That's what I wanna hear." Magic followed.

Jason: 4000

Magic: 4000

"I'll go first!" Magic drew her sixth card, "I summon (1) Strategist of the Ice Barrier(4/ATK: 1600/DEF: 1600) in DEF mode!" a elderly man wearing blue robes and a hexagonal hat appeared (DEF: 1600), "And with his special-ability, I discard an Ice Barrier monster and draw another card!" she replaced a card in her hand with another from the top of her deck, "Then I place one card face-down and end my turn."

"It's my turn," Jason drew his next card, "I summon Genex Searcher in ATK mode," the scrap-iron genex monster appeared (ATK: 1600), "I'll end my turn there."

"Now it's my turn!" Magic drew her next card, "First, I activate the spell card Medallion of the Ice Barrier! This allows me to add an Ice Barrier monster from my deck to my hand!" she added another card from her deck before shuffling it, "Next I activate Strategist's ability and send an Ice Barrier from my hand to draw one more card! Next I activate my face-down Call of the Haunted trap card to summon a monster from my graveyard, like (2) General Grunard of the Ice Barrier(7/ATK: 2800/DEF: 1000)!" from the graveyard came a heavily-armed man in an armor of crystal ice. On his back is a large sword made from the same substance (ATK: 2800), "And while he's on my field, I get to summon an extra Ice Barrier monster from my hand each turn! So I summon my Samurai of the Ice Barrier…" the ice-armored samurai appeared (ATK: 1800), "Then release my Strategist to summon my Royal Knight of the Ice Barrier!" the armored knight in porcelain-white armor appeared (ATK: 2000), "And when he's summoned this way, an Ice Coffin token is summon to your side of the field in ATK mode!" a large shard of ice rose beside Genex Searcher (ATK: 1000), "Now on to the battle-phase; Royal Knight attacks the Ice Coffin!" the knight thrusts its spear through the coffin and shattered it.

Jason: 3000

Magic: 4000

"Next, Samurai attacks Genex Searcher!" the samurai sliced through the machine with its blade.

Jason: 2800

Magic: 4000

"When Genex Searcher is destroyed in battle, I can summon another Genex monster with 1500-or-less ATK points from my deck in ATK mode. So I summon Genex Turbine," the tank-like Genex monster appeared (ATK: 1400), "And while on the field, it and all other Genex monsters gain 400 ATK points (ATK: 1400-1800).

"Then General Grunard attacks Genex Turbine!" pulling out his sword, Grunard destroyed Genex Turbine.

Jason: 1800

Magic: 4000

"With that, I end my turn!"

"Then it's my turn," Jason drew his next card, "Since there's no monsters on my field, I can special-summon Omni Genex from my hand," the shield-like machine appeared (DEF: 1000), "Next I summon the tuner monster Genex controller," the Genex normal-monster tuner appeared (ATK: 1400), "And now I tune them both to synchro-summon Genex Dragon!" the two monsters merged and out came Jason's dragon-based machine (ATK: 2800-3600), "And when he's summoned, his special-ability activates depending on the non-tuner monsters used. With his Earth ability, Genex Dragon can cut the ATK points of one of your monsters in half," Genex Dragon stomped the ground and sent a fissure towards Magic's Grunard.

General Grunard of the Ice Barrier: (ATK: 2800-1400)

"Now Genex Dragon attacks General Grunard!" the dragon fired a multi-colored blast and destroyed the general.

Jason: 1800

Magic: 1800

"And when Genex Dragon destroys a monster in battle, its Fire ability activates, inflicting 300 points of damage for each level you monster had!" Genex Dragon attacked once more, this time spitting out a fireball the exploded right in front of Magic.

Jason: 1800

Magic: 0

With it over and done with, they both deactivated their disks as the holograms disappeared.

"So are you satisfied?"

"I really wasn't expecting it to be over so quick…"

"It takes practice. Let's get back. Maybe we can catch what's left of Yusei's duel."

Both Jason and Magic rushed back to the building, not knowing there were eyes in the sky watching them the entire time…

"Though he is a faux Signer, he is much stronger that I thought. He could be just what I need to finish my little project…"
