A/N: Sorry I haven't updated in ages. I actually forgot this fic existed because I got distracted writing others. Well here you go after over 2 months (I think) an update!
Chapter 3.
When they woke up they were in a school. Strange place to put them but whatever. There wasn't much there, just students and teachers who remained oblivious to their presence. In fact it was as if they weren't even there.
"Do you know where we are?"
"School. I thought that was fairly obvious, even to you."
"Yes I can tell we're in a school. But do you know what school this is? Why we might be here?"
"Shhh. I'm trying to think!"
Sherlock blocked out the Doctor's voice and searched his mind palace. His childhood remained intact fortunately. He remembered the school but couldn't place it's name. He'd probably deleted it. He looked around to try and work out where in the school they were. They were on the second floor outside room 221. How fitting.
"Remember anything useful, your highness?" There was a hint of mocking in his voice but Sherlock chose to ignore it.
"Nothing that is likely to help us."
"Well do you at least know where we are?"
"Deleted it."
"Well done." The Doctor said sarcastically.
A bell rang and students began walking past them, oblivious to the two people standing in front of them. Well all the students except one. There was a young boy with curls similar to Sherlock's, he was staring at them with knowing eyes. Sherlock instantly recognized the boy. Well how could he not? That boy was him.
The Doctor tapped Sherlock on the shoulder and asked "How can he see us? Do you know who he is?"
"Yes, he's me."
The Doctor looked shocked. Sherlock moved to walk towards his younger self but the Doctor stopped him. "Don't."
"This isn't up to you. It's my mind I'll do what I want. NOW, LET GO."
When the Doctor didn't let go, Sherlock snatched his hand away. He walked over towards his younger self who was still watching them.
"Hello."
"Hello? Who are you?"
"It's complicated."
"How? Explain."
"I'm you."
"But? Thats impossible!"
"Once you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable must be the truth."
The boy didn't seem to believe Sherlock's response. "Who put you up to this?"
"No one. Look, I'm not even supposed to be here."
"You got that right! By the looks of things you're 'friends' not supposed to be here either."
"I'm still not entirely sure why he's here."
The younger Sherlock looked at the Doctor. "You're a time traveler. You're much older than you look. You have old mans eyes and your clothes are tremendously outdated. But you're not sure why you're here."
The Doctor looked incredibly uncomfortable. Sherlock smiled at his younger self. "You did well. Theres still alot you missed. Like how he has to keep running. His shoes are incredibly worn out. He killed his own people to save the universe. He still regrets it. Theres a deep air of sadness that surrounds him. He's sentimental, he's had many companions but they all leave in the end. Whether it's by choice or by chance, everyone leaves. Doctor surely you know by now that caring is not an advantage, yet you still seem to. You've only just met me and you already trust me. Why?"
"Because this isn't the first time I've met you."
"When did you last meet me? I don't remember you."
"That's because it hasn't happened yet."
"When does it happen?"
"Spoilers."
The younger Sherlock stood there watching them. Is this really the man he'll become? A man who flawlessly and effortlessly deduces peoples life stories. He didn't want to become that man. For the first time doubt was forming in Sherlock's (younger) mind. How many people has he hurt with his pointless deductions?
"No."
Sherlock and the Doctor turned to look at the younger boy. "What?"
"Just no. I don't want to become you. I won't."
The Doctor saw what looked like hurt in Sherlock's eyes. After about a second it was gone. Sherlock rushed down the hallway and his younger self darted into the classroom. The Doctor ran after Sherlock. When Sherlock finally stopped, they weren't in the school anymore but in the halls of his mind palace.
