The smug grin on Lucifer's face stretched into a malicious smile. Just the look in his eyes told Dean that he wasn't here by a freak accident.

"Glad to know you still remember me, Dean. I thought you might have forgotten, considering the lack of phone calls and postcards." A look of fake pain crossed Lucifer's face.

"What the hell am I doing here? Better question, how AM I here?" Under normal circumstances, Dean would've made some sarcastic remark, but not now.

"Is it true, Dean?" asked Lucifer vaguely, avoiding the question.

"Is what true?"

"Cain. Is he dead?" Lucifer's voice was bursting with impatience.

Dean hesitated answering. He wanted to push the memory of killing Cain as far out of his mind as possible. It was something that haunted him every waking moment.

"Yes. He's dead," Dean replied reluctantly.

A look washed over Lucifer's face, but was quickly replaced by another. At first it was a look of disappointment, but it was a small grin that came afterward.

"Oh well, that's a shame," Lucifer mocked. "He would have really helped me out of my little 'predicament' here," He continued as he gestured the walls around him. "But you will have to do, considering he gave you a small gift before he left."

Dean's hand instantly went to his lower arm, brushing over the Mark of Cain. "How do you know about that?"

"See Dean, you are only here as a plan B," Lucifer said, brushing off another question. "I knew I needed a backup plan in case Cain was truly dead. Now let me tell you something, it was a risky choice to bring you down here. I mean, it's not exactly easy to bring a soul down to the Pit. Of course, being the original King of Hell has its perks. And if you might not have obtained the Mark as the rumours stated, then we would have to put up with each other for who knows how long. But you do have the Mark! And I must say I am thrilled."

"What the hell does that mean?" Dean questioned. "What rumours? How have you heard them? AND HOW," he screamed, "THE FUCK DID I GET HERE?!"

His mind was racing, his heart was pounding. He tried to keep a straight face, but he was seriously panicking. How was he going to get out of this one? How could Lucifer have possibly dragged him down?

Lucifer pretended to wince, a smirk still plastered on his face. "Ouch. Yelling, Dean? I thought we were closer than that."

"Just answer the damn questions."

"Well fine then. So impatient." Lucifer began pacing around the confined area of the cell. "I needed you here in order for my plan to work. So I got some help. Not every demon worships Crowley, you know. A few of my loyal workers got in touch with a powerful sorceress. She was skilled enough to contact me down here using some voodoo trick. One demon told me the rumours going around about Cain giving you the Mark, and then of his death. He also caught me up to speed on the lives of the Winchester boys. Have fun in Purgatory?"

Dean scowled. "Leave Purgatory out of this."

"Alright, then I'll get straight to the point. This witch knew how to open the Pit long enough so one soul could enter. Believe me, if I could've escaped myself, I would've. Unfortunately is was a one person ride only, and the direction was straight down. So I thought to myself, 'Why risk bringing down Cain if he might be dead, and just bring down my buddy Dean, who possesses the same ability?'"

Dean's heart lurched forward. "So... does that mean...?"

Lucifer let out a huge sigh. "Do I need to spell it out for you? You're dead."

Dean remained silent for a moment. He was dead. Again. There were so many thoughts going through his mind, but one broke his moment of pause.

"What happened to Sam?"

"Oh him? Not entirely sure actually. Probably off somewhere, weeping over your newly-dug grave," Lucifer gloated.

"You son of a –"

"Enough Dean," Lucifer's grin dropped, and a look of absolute seriousness replaced it. "You are here for a reason, and one alone."

Dean threw up his hands in frustration. "Yeah, your plan. Your brilliant fucking plan. And what might it be exactly?"

Lucifer stepped forward, looking at Dean straight in the eyes.

"I'm getting out of this Pit. And you're the one who's going to help me."

Thank you so much for the reviews! I was so happy to see someone had read this. I'm sorry for the delay in updating the story. I promise I will try and have the next chapter out before next Tuesday.
