bananas-rule-2015-Glad you enjoyed the second one, and thanks for the ideas!:) Hopefully this one'll be kinda like your 'To the North Mountain' idea!:)
princessdianaofparadiseisland-LOL, you are quite welcomeXDXD *giggles innocently* Squash is so disgusting IMO...:P
On to the story!:) Summary: Elsa and Anna run off to the North Mountain, but they have a few mishaps and have fun with Elsa's magical powers. Based off bananas-rule-2015's prompt/idea.:) Elsa is 8 and Anna is 5.
Eight-year-old Elsa and five-year-old Anna were very excited. They were going camping for the first time since winter ended. If Elsa had had her way, they would have gone camping in the winter too; but no one except her was immune to cold, so that was out of the question. Elsa could sleep outside lying in the snow all night when it was below freezing, and she wouldn't mind a bit. (This was actually something she'd tested out of curiosity when she was six…and subsequently gotten in trouble for 'going missing'. Oops.)
Elsa happily walked along next to her sister. Their parents had made arrangements to have a few free days to take the girls camping. The bright but still a bit cool weather was perfect for hiking. They were now beginning to enter the mountain-y part of Arendelle. It crossed Elsa's mind that it would be awfully fun to go swimming in the big pool with the waterfall running into it. "Papa, can we stop at the pool and go swimming?"
"Ooh, yeah! Let's!" Anna exclaimed.
"It's too cold to go swimming."
"It is not," Elsa said, sounding a bit pouty.
"I don't think so either," Anna added.
"It may not be too cold for you, Elsa, but it's too cold for the rest of us that don't have ice powers."
Elsa made a face. "That's not my fault I'm different than everyone else. Besides, Anna said she didn't think it was cold, too. And she's…normal." Elsa glanced down at her hands and frowned. Papa must really not like my powers. He sounded kind of disgusted with me. They're just part of me. What's wrong with 'em?
Anna noticed Elsa's frown and asked her what was wrong. "What's the matter, Elsa?"
"Oh, nothing…I was just thinking," Elsa said quickly. I'm not bugging Anna. It's not a big deal anyhow…me and Anna-wait, Anna and I-like my powers, and that's enough for me.
"Why'd you look upset then?" Anna asked, taking her sister's hand in her own.
"Papa, can we stop at the pool anyway?" Elsa asked to get off that topic. "We could just go wading and not swimming." I'd rather go swimming, but going wading is better than nothing.
"I suppose."
"YAY!" Anna ran ahead and shouted back, "Elsa, catch me if you can!"
Elsa giggled and ran after her sister. She easily caught up to Anna and dropped a bit of snow down her back.
Anna squealed in surprise. "Elsa, get it offa me! Get it offa me!"
Elsa trotted up the path a bit in front of her sister and pretended not to know what Anna was talking about.
"Elsa, what did you do to your sister?" Agdar asked from a ways back down the path.
Elsa was in a mischievous mood, so she answered, "I touched her with a snake," in a very serious voice before shouting to Anna, "I'll race you to the pool! We're almost there!"
"But you've got longer legs'n me," Anna complained. "You're gonna win, I just know it! And DON'T touch me with a snake. I hate 'em."
"Who said anything about snakes?" Elsa deadpanned with a slight smirk.
"Oh, you…" Anna took off as fast as she could go. "I'm gonna beat you this time, Elsa!"
"You are so on!" Elsa dashed after her sister towards the pool and overtook her just before they arrived. "Beat you."
Anna skidded to a stop behind Elsa and nearly knocked her into the pool. As it was, Elsa splashed a few steps into the pool before turning around and splashing Anna.
"Anna, you made me get my shoes all wet," Elsa said in annoyance. "And my dress."
"So? You wanted to go swimming anyways," Anna countered, not looking a bit sorry.
Elsa frowned. "Not like this." She slipped off her shoes and pulled her dress off over her head. "Now I'm ready to go swimming!"
"Mama and Papa are gonna have a fit if they see you like that, about to go swimming in your slip and underpants," Anna told her.
"I don't care. I want to go swimming, and I didn't bring another dress besides the one I had on," Elsa replied. She splashed into the pool up to her knees and plopped down in the water. I love going swimming. Struck by an idea, Elsa hopped up and splashed out of the pool. "Watch this!" Elsa stuck one foot out and touched the surface of the water. A moment later, the water froze under her foot and Elsa stepped onto it. The ice held. "Ta-da!" Elsa said, striking a pose.
Anna laughed and started at her sister. "Are you really…standing on the water?!"
"Well, I'm technically standing on ice, but yeah." Elsa, pleased with her new trick, walked farther out over the pool, making new ice with each step she took. This is awesome!
Anna, leaving her shoes on since she didn't want to walk on ice in bare feet, followed Elsa out onto the ice.
A minute later, their parents finally reached the pool and saw what their daughters were doing. "What in the world are you two doing?!"
Elsa and Anna exchanged glances. They weren't quite sure what they were supposed to be doing, but amusing themselves by walking on a path of ice around the pool definitely wasn't it. "We're just playing," Elsa said.
"Why did you make ice all over the pool?"
"I just wanted to see if I could do it. And I can! It's even strong enough to walk on!" Elsa replied. She twirled around in a circle and tossed what she thought were snowflakes in the air. Elsa stopped twirling when she realized everyone was staring at her. "Why is everyone staring at me?"
"Elsa, lookit at what you're wearing," Anna whispered. "Did you make that?!"
Elsa glanced down at herself. Where did this come from?! Mama and Papa are gonna have a fit! She was wearing a sparkling blue dress with sheer off-the-shoulder long sleeves and a skirt that was long enough to touch the floor. I'm only eight! I'm not old enough for this kind of dress…oops. Big oops. "Uh…I think I made a dress…" I actually kinda like it though. I think I'm going to keep it.
"Elsa, I don't know how your powers made an actual dress, but get rid of it and all the ice on the pool. Now."
Just then, Anna stepped too close to the edge of the ice and slipped off and fell into the water with a splash. "Eek! Cold, cold, cold!" Anna squealed.
"Now look what you've done, Elsa. It's too cold to go swimming, and now Anna's fallen into the water because you were playing around and putting ice where it doesn't belong."
Elsa just turned and ran over to where Anna had fallen in. She tripped over the long skirt on her ice-dress and fell flat on her tummy. Ow. I gotta help Anna. Elsa scrambled to her feet and finally reached Anna. Anna could swim fairly well, but the water really was too cold for anyone besides Elsa. Elsa dissolved the ice in the pool and dropped into the water herself. Now where was Anna? There she is. Elsa grabbed her sister's arm and started swimming towards shore. Elsa could swim like a fish, so towing Anna wasn't too difficult for her. Anna, please be okay. I shouldn't have suggested we go swimming. When the water finally grew shallow enough that Elsa could stand up, she pulled Anna up on her back and splashed out of the pool. Elsa glanced up at her parents, still holding her sister piggyback-style. "Is Anna okay?"
"Put Anna down so we can find out."
Elsa frowned. "I'm gonna drop her if I do that."
Idun took Anna from Elsa and laid her down. Elsa stared down at her sister in concern. "Did she swallow a ton of water or something?" Elsa asked.
Anna coughed a few times and blinked. "What happened? Ooh, oh yeah, we were playin' and I fell in the water. Did you pull me out, Elsa?" she asked, noticing that her big sister was dripping wet.
Elsa smiled and plopped down on the ground next to Anna. "Yeah. I made ice in the pool and you slipped off. I'm so glad you're okay!" Elsa reached for Anna and hugged her close.
"Mmmph…Elsa…can't breathe!" Anna got out. "You're squeezin' me too hard!"
"Sorry." Elsa loosened her hold on Anna, but she didn't let go entirely.
"Want to go look for frogs?" Anna asked.
"Absolutely!"
"Elsa cannot go look for frogs right now. We need to talk to her, and she needs to get rid of that…ice-dress she made."
Anna glanced at her sister's dress. "I think Elsa looks pretty. Kinda grown-up. And sparkly."
"It's all right, Anna. Go look for frogs by yourself for a few minutes," Elsa told her. I'm going to be in huge trouble. I don't want to worry Anna 'bout anything.
Thirty minutes later, Elsa found herself sneaking away from the pool, farther up into the mountains. She brushed a few tears off her face and kept walking. How come Mama and Papa fussed at me so much? Anna wasn't hurt. It's just 'cause I'm not 'normal' and have ice powers. Well, that's not fair. Maybe I don't even want to be normal! I like me the way I am. Elsa decided she'd run away for a while. Not forever, just long enough that her parents would grow worried and come look for her. Elsa jumped when Anna came up behind her and tapped her on the shoulder. "How'd you find me?" Elsa asked.
"You're my big sister. I can always find you!" Anna grabbed her sister's hand and tried to match her steps with Elsa's. "Where're you goin'?"
"Up the mountain. Want to come along?" Elsa wasn't sure if she should invite Anna to go with her; it'd be cold up on the mountain, but as long as they didn't stay up there too long, it should be fine.
"Of course!"
The two girls kept walking for the next couple of hours. Elsa wasn't sure where to stop; if they went too far, it would take ages and ages for their parents to find them or for them to find their way back.
"Elsa, my legs are gettin' tired," Anna complained. "How much farther is it?!"
Elsa smiled. "I don't know, but I have an idea." Thinking hard, she made a sled of ice big enough for both of them to sit on. There. Now we should be there in a flash.
Anna clapped her hands and hopped on. Elsa climbed on too and sent them flying. The two of them laughed as the wind blew in their faces. "THIS IS SO AWESOME!" Anna shrieked.
"I agree!" Elsa replied happily.
A few minutes later, both girls screamed when they realized there were several wolves stalking their icy mode of transportation. What do I do?! I don't wanna hurt 'em, Elsa thought. They're like big dogs. Dangerous big dogs, but still. She willed the ice sled to go faster and told Anna to keep an eye on the wolves in case they got closer.
"You got it. HEY WOLVES, GO AWAY! WE'RE ELSA AND ANNA AND WE'RE GONNA SCARE YOUR FUR OFF IF YOU BOTHER US!" Anna shouted.
Elsa couldn't resist giggling even though they were still in danger. A moment later, Elsa saw a wide crevasse in their direct path and quickly changed their course. "Anna, hold on!" Elsa shouted. She saw Anna tumble out of the sled and then screamed herself. In a flash, Elsa stopped the sled, hopped out, grabbed Anna's arm, and hauled her back to the sled. This time Elsa shoved Anna in front of her and clutched her sister with one arm while she directed the sled with the other. Where do I take us?! I don't know where to go!
"Elsa, lemme go! You're squishin' me!"
Elsa ignored Anna's protests and continued holding her tightly. "I'm not letting you fall off again!" She continued steering them along parallel with that crevasse, but there was no end in sight. They had to get across somehow. A bridge… Elsa stopped the sled and grabbed a stout branch, giving it to Anna. "If those wolves come over here, you give 'em a whack with that, okay?"
Five-year-old Anna did her best army general stance and brandished her makeshift weapon. "You better run away if y'know what's good for you, wolves!" Anna shouted.
Elsa rolled her eyes and threw her hands out, sending ice swirling towards the other side of the crevasse. It wasn't exactly elegant-looking, but it would do the trick. If it would hold the two of them. Elsa closed her eyes and stepped onto the ice. She got three quarters of the way to the other side before the ice cracked and snapped because it had too much pressure on one end. Like a ruler that's over halfway off a table…that was a dumb thing for me to do… Elsa's jumbled thoughts told her as she went plummeting through the air. I better land in snow! When Elsa landed with a thud in what seemed to be feet and feet of powdery snow, she felt dazed for a moment before remembering she'd left Anna at least a hundred feet above her, trying to deal with a bunch of wolves on her own.
The next moment Anna came plummeting towards Elsa and landed a few feet away from her. "That happened," Anna said, giggling.
"We got away from the wolves anyway?" Elsa replied, her voice a bit questioning but teasing. Okay, that was crazy…
"I don't think we scared their fur off," Anna said in a quite serious voice.
"It doesn't matter. They're not going to jump off into the crevasse after us," Elsa told her. "Now we just have to figure out how to get ourselves back up to the top. No one will ever find us down here…I know this is part of the North Mountain, but we definitely aren't on the summit…Or anywhere near it!" Which is where I wanted to go. Boo.
"Uh, Elsa? I don't think we're gonna be getting back up there any too easily…look…" Anna pointed at the nearly vertical rock walls that towered above them on either side. Ledges jutted out at random points; but not only did they not look very secure, they were too far apart to climb from one to the next.
Elsa frowned up at the rock walls. Great. What have I done? We can't climb back up…And it's evening now. Nobody will find us at night. The temperature's going to drop and Anna will freeze. "Well, since we're stuck here, I'm going to make us a shelter." Concentrating hard, she made an igloo out of ice just large enough for her and Anna to sit in.
"Cool!" Anna started trying to hop to her feet, but she was stuck in the snow. "Elsa, help!"
Elsa quickly yanked her sister out of the snow. "Anna, are you all right? I know I'm fine since I don't mind the cold, but…"
Anna began hopping about before plopping back down in the snow a moment later. "I think I got an owie," she announced.
Elsa dropped to her knees beside her little sister. "Where? Where? Can I help you somehow?"
"Don't touch my foot," Anna said in that irritatingly bossy tone she sometimes had.
"Why, thank you for telling me, you little goof," Elsa replied. Okay, she hurt her foot. It can't be anything too serious though or Anna would be yelling her head off. "May I please look at it? I won't touch it unless you say I can."
Anna reluctantly agreed and pulled off her shoes and sock before sticking her foot out toward Elsa. "I think I twisted it. It's all purple-y. And it hurts."
"Anna, stop moving around! You're so wiggly. I just wanna look at it," Elsa told her. Finally Anna quit moving. I think Anna's right. She just twisted it. Now what? Elsa had no idea what to do. They were stuck at the bottom of a crevasse on the North Mountain with no logical way to get out; the temperature was quickly dropping; and now Anna had a twisted ankle. "Can you walk on it at all?"
"I dunno. I could try!"
Elsa helped Anna to her feet. It turned out Anna could walk, but she limped and she had to lean on Elsa. The two of them headed over to the ice igloo Elsa had made and crawled inside. "It should be a bit warmer in here than outside since the ice kinda insulates the air inside the igloo," Elsa said.
"Thanks, Elsa. You're so smart," Anna told Elsa, and snuggled up next to her.
Elsa made a face as she put her arm around Anna. Anna overestimates me. "No, I'm not. I shouldn't have run off just because I got upset. It was dumb. Now we're stuck in the middle of nowhere…"
"I don' care. As long as I'm with you, I'm gonna be fine. Can we play a game?"
"Sure, but you stay there. I don't want you hurting your ankle," Elsa replied.
Anna huffed, but she didn't get up. "What'm I gonna play sitting down? That's boring!"
"It doesn't have to be." Elsa quickly made two small sheets of ice, and handed one to her sister, while keeping the other for herself. "We can etch pictures together, how's that?"
"How'm I gonna do that?"
"Oh, yeah, sorry. Here you go." Elsa handed Anna a pen-sized stick of ice that was extremely sharp on one end. "Don't poke yourself with it." While Anna began etching a picture on her ice sheet with the ice stick, Elsa etched her own picture with just her finger. Elsa's ice would respond to her simple touch, letting her draw complicated geometric patterns that she wouldn't have been able to draw otherwise. Even if we are stuck in the middle of nowhere, this is fun. Elsa surveyed her artwork, pleased with the way it had come out. What are those patterns called? Ooh, yeah, I remember! Fractals! That's what they are. I remember asking what they were called. And got told I was 'too young' for that concept. Blah.
Elsa's musings were interrupted when Anna started curling up directly against her. "E-Elsa, I-I'm getting c-cold," Anna shivered.
Elsa bit her lip. "I'm sorry, Anna, I really am. Maybe you'd better move away from me. I'm definitely not warm. You're trying to warm up next to one big ice cube." I need to figure out how to get out of here. Anna can't go all night shivering like that. Anna was wearing a sweater, but it wasn't warm enough to be sitting in the snow with the biting night temperature.
"W-well, you f-feel warmer than the a-a-air," Anna said, and climbed into her sister's lap.
Her fractal etching forgotten, Elsa clutched her sister tight. What was she going to do? Elsa didn't mind the cold, but Anna was going to get frostbite or hypothermia or something. Also, it was nighttime now. She couldn't see what she was doing even if she could get the two of them out of there. Elsa considered giving Anna her own dress and putting it on top of the one Anna was wearing, but Elsa's regular dress was back at the campsite by the pool. Elsa couldn't very well put her ice-dress she was still wearing on her sister; she'd freeze for sure. I know I can't let Anna go to sleep or she'll freeze to death. I have to come up with something to entertain her. She held out one hand and made a sparkling, glowing blue, ice snowflake. "Hey, Anna, look at this!"
Anna picked her head up off Elsa's shoulder and looked. "That's c-cool! It's l-like a l-light…" She reached one hand toward Elsa's ice snowflake. "C-can I h-hold it?"
Elsa allowed Anna to take the ice snowflake, but the moment Elsa's hand wasn't holding it anymore, the magical blue glow disappeared, leaving the two of them in complete darkness. She quickly made another ice snowflake so they had some light.
"Tired…lemmegosleep…" Anna said, still holding the ice snowflake Elsa had given her.
"Anna, no! You can't sleep!" Elsa quickly shook Anna awake. "Help me figure out how to get us out of here!"
"Ice'form…" Anna said.
Iceform? What is that? Wait a second, maybe, just maybe… "Anna, wake up. I think I might be able to try something," Elsa told Anna. She crawled out of the ice igloo, pulling Anna behind her. Scooping up Anna in her arms, Elsa stamped her foot, making a column of ice rise from the bottom of the crevasse. It's working! Ice PLATform, that's what Anna meant.
Anna laughed in delight and clapped her cold hands. "Cool, Elsa!"
Elsa smiled. Not only did they now have a plan to get out of the crevasse, Elsa had managed to rouse Anna completely awake again, thank goodness. They were almost to the top when Elsa's ice column simply quit growing. Oh, no…I've done too much with my powers. That's what happened.
"Elsa, whatcha doin'? We gotta get all the way out!"
"I can't, Anna. I think I overdid it. My powers aren't strong enough to get us all the way out…" Elsa admitted. She suddenly felt very tired and dizzy, and she plopped down on top of the ice column, still holding Anna.
"But we're almost there!"
"I'll try once more…" Elsa pushed Anna off her lap, got to her feet, and tried to make the column taller. They went up another couple feet, but they still weren't at the top. Elsa sighed, and tried again. I can't do this…I'm too little.
Anna screamed as her sister collapsed on the ice next to her. "ELSAA! What happened?!"
Elsa just blinked at her sister. "Can't do it, Anna," she gasped out. "I'm sorry…"
Anna wasn't sure what to do, but she had a loud voice for a little five-year-old, so she just started screaming for help. "Somebody'll come. I know they will," she tried to assure Elsa.
For her part, Elsa had no idea what was wrong with her, but she found herself shaking all over and feeling very odd and hollow inside. Is this what cold feels like? If it is, I don't like it.
Anna tired of yelling and scooted close to Elsa. Elsa threw a tired arm around her sister and Anna curled up against her. "We can't go to sleep, Anna," Elsa said firmly. "I don't know what's wrong with me, but I feel really odd…"
A few minutes later, Anna started yelling again, hoping someone would hear her this time.
"Elsa! Anna! Where are you?" the two girls heard.
"It's Mama and Papa!" Elsa said happily. "Keep screaming, Anna!" Elsa struggled to make herself sit up; then hold up another ice snowflake contained in a shimmering blue glow. "Distress signal," she told Anna.
Anna giggled and kept yelling. "Over here! We're in the big crevasse! We're over here!"
Elsa was never so happy to see her parents in her whole life. Soon she and Anna were safe on top of the cliff on one side of the crevasse. "I'm sorry I ran away, Mama, Papa," Elsa said. "I was just upset 'cause…'cause I know you don't really…like me the way I am, I guess." But Anna and I like me the way I am, and that's enough for me. It's okay. Then she closed her eyes and immediately fell asleep, still holding Anna.
Anna tried to wiggle out of Elsa's arms, but Elsa just hung on tighter. "Papa, Mama, Elsa almost got us out herself! And I've got a twisted ankle. And it's freezing cold out here…and no, no, no, it's not Elsa!" she insisted as her mother tried to pick her up. Anna held on to her sister and wouldn't let go. "Elsa isn't cold! I wanna be with her!"
Agdar and Idun looked at each other. There was no way they could get Elsa and Anna back to the campsite now; it was the middle of the night and both girls were very tired. Luckily, they had brought warm clothes along just in case.
So Anna quickly put on her heavy winter coat, hat, and mittens. "What about Elsa? She was, like, shakin' afore you came, and she said somethin' about overdoing it with her magic. That's why she couldn't get us all the way out."
"She's wearing a dress made of ice, for goodness sakes. What did you expect?"
Anna made a face. "Elsa looks pretty and sparkly in that dress, thank'ou very much. Didn't you bring Elsa a coat'n'stuff too?"
"She's immune to cold, Anna."
"Not when she overdoes it like that. Blanket then?" Anna asked hopefully. She spotted a blanket in a backpack. "I see one! Gimme!"
Idun handed Anna the blanket, and Anna promptly tucked it around Elsa, who ironically was not shivering anymore. Whatever Elsa had done to herself must have worn off. Anna curled up next to Elsa in the snow and fell asleep herself.
The next morning, Elsa couldn't remember where she was for a moment. She blinked up at the blue morning sky on the mountain. Oh yeah. I ran off yesterday and ALMOST got Anna and myself out of that crevasse. I didn't need to run off. I have Anna. She's epically awesome. She turned over and shook Anna awake. "Anna! Wake up, wake up, wake up! Do you want to build a snowman?"
A/N: Hope this was ok to you, bananas-rule-2015 since it wasn't exactly like you asked for.:P:)
