Chapter 3: For That, One Must Turn to the King of Truth
"D'Eon, did you pack your potions kit?"
"Of course Becky."
"Your books?"
"Yes Becky."
For the past forty-five minutes, Becky had been asking D'Eon if he had forgotten anything to pack, although she had already asked him about his books. Three times.
She is just worried about you D'Eon. Lia reassured him as he warily watched Becky bustling about the entryway where several trunks were laying on the floor. It is going to be a week until she sees you again.
"Did you pack your under-?"
"Becky!"
Okay, D'Eon had to interrupt her at that question. It was only natural, because what reincarnated fifteen-year old would want to hear that question?
Becky turned to face him at his exclamation, worry and surprise in her brown eyes.
"Becky, I will be fine. It will only be a week at the most."
"But-!"
"Trust me Becky. It'll be okay. The establishment of the House of Black is just as secure as Gringotts."
Thinking of Gringotts, D'Eon remembered the trips to Gringotts for Lia's will reading that was only a few days ago from his return from the coma…..
-Flashback—
"Lord de Beaumont! Can you tell us anything about the accident that killed your sister?"
Maybe it was too soon to come out. D'Eon mentally told himself as he – accompanied by Becky – made their way towards the French branch of Gringotts.
Relax D'Eon Lia calmly told him, although he could hear just a tinge bit of amusement in her voice. He could feel Becky's grip on his shoulder tighten a bit as he kept his chin up and washed the expression off his face, putting on a blank mask fitting for a Lord.
Climbing up the steps of the bank, D'Eon turned around on the topmost step to face the flashing bulbs and feathered quills of the press.
"What happened was a tragedy and an unfortunate accident that should only be disclosed of with family. As none of you are family, I have nothing to say to you of this matter. Also, my sister's will reading is a closed reading only to family and close friends. So I bid you all good afternoon and goodbye."
And with those words, D'Eon turned on the balls of his feet and entered the bank with Becky, hearing his name being called from the reporters as the goblin guards closed the doors while holding them back.
D'Eon had to give the reporters some credit; they sure were tenacious for a story! D'Eon had to hold in a chuckle as he could hear Lia chuckle in his mind as they reached a teller's desk. After giving his name and reason for the visit, the goblin got off his seat and led D'Eon and Becky down a long stone hallway. Reaching a smooth door that surely must have been heavy, the goblin knocked three times and gruffly said, "Lord de Beaumont is here."
Not even five seconds afterward, the door slid open and the goblin motioned them in. Taking a few steps into the room, D'Eon was nearly tackled as his cousin rushed over and hugged him as the door slid closed with a deep click.
"Oh, D'Eon!" Fleur exclaimed as she clutched D'Eon close to her body. D'Eon was lucky that he had had a growth spurt as his forehead was now just resting underneath her chin.
"Je suis si contente que vous soyez bien! Nous avons entendu ce qui s'était passé, et nous avons craint le pire pour vous quand nous avons découvert que vous aviez disparu de l'hôpital! Je vous donne mes condoléances au nom de la famille Delacour sur la perte d'Elizabeth. Elle était une femme merveilieuse et nous allons tous me manquer." (1)
D'Eon gently returned the hug and was then released by the platinum-blonde young woman.
"Merci Fleur," D'Eon said softly. "Je suis désolé de vous avoir fait tout inquiet. Je portkeyed à mon château parce que les mediwitches étaient sur le point d'utilier plus d'essence Murlap ce qui était nécessaire pour moi sans vérifier pour voir se je réagissais négativement." (2)
"Ces imbéciles idiot!" Becky spat out with venom as Fleur had a shocked expression of what D'Eon said on her face.
"Ses systems sont tous début d'arrêter quand il est arrive dans le foyer! Memes après que j'ai réussi à vider le Murlap sur, il a encore tombé dans le coma pendant trois semaines!" (3)
"Idiots!" Gabrielle piped from next to her mother.
D'Eon gave a gentle smile towards his younger cousin. "Ce qui est fait est fait, Gabrielle, tout ce que nous pouvons faire, c'est aller de l'avant. J'ai terriblement me manqué parce qu'elle m'a élevé aux côtés de Becky et m'a appris à peu près tout ce que je sais, mais je dois passer à autre chose de sa perte dans le but pour moi de grandir." (4)
Je suis avec toi Lia said inside his mind, and D'Eon could almost feel arms surrounding him in a loving hug. (5)
"Wise words for a young Lord," D'Eon heard a masculine voice say.
D'Eon and the two women turned to face a middle-aged man, although he looked younger than he was, as he approached them with a young man – his son. The older man had smooth ash blonde hair that went halfway down his back, sharp aristocratic facial features with silvery-blue eyes and a manicured goatee. His son had the same shade of hair, although his hair was a bit shorter and put up into a ponytail tied with a blue ribbon. His features were softer than his father's and his eyes were light blue. Both wore black clothing and cloaks
"Good afternoon Lord Malfoi, Scion Malfoi," D'Eon addressed them as he walked towards where a small group of people were.
There were Gabrielle and her parents, Monsieur Delacour and Madame Apolline Delacour, Lord Malfoi and Xavier Malfoi, Lady Zabini, and Fleur and Gabrielle's veela grandmother, Madame Alexandrine Blanc.
For being a grandmother, Madame Alexandrine Blanc was a stunning woman. She looked about the same age as her daughter, with her long silvery blonde hair done up in an elaborate braided up do, a clear complexion of her pale skin, rosy pink lips and bright blue eyes. She was wearing a long black dress with hints of silver.
Now, if there were such things as a Dark Veela, Lady Zabini would have been one. Olive skin betraying her Mediterranean heritage, she had high cheek bones, slanted brown eyes, an elegant shaped nose and a nicely shaped mouth with the upper lip a cupid's bow. Her dark hair was up in a braided crown with the ends tucked into the braid. She was wearing a tasteful dark green gown with her sleeves ending at her wrists and a high neckline.
Before anymore words could be said, a goblin walked into the room from a side door, holding an orb with smoke encased within it.
"Ladies and gentlemen," the goblin started as everyone got seated. "I, Stonefang, overseer of the de Beaumont vaults, will now start the will reading of Elizabeth de Beaumont."
Stonefang then tapped the orb several times, and inside the orb, the smoke began to swirl around before the smoke colored and took the shape of Elizabeth's head.
"For everyone's sake, I will be speaking in English. I Elizabeth Catherine de Beaumont, being of sound mind and body, leave my last will and testament to the following people:
(AN: I am so bulls***ting this! I have no idea how a Wizarding will is done!)
"To Lord Malfoi and Xavier, I bequeath to you my dowry of 500,000 galleons that you would have received should we had been married. You and your family have been there for D'Eon and I as if we were part of your family. To Xavier, my love, I leave you with a magical portrait of myself that Stonefang will provide you with. I know that it won't be the same, but I pray that you will be happy.
"To Lady Zabini, I bequeath you 200,000 galleons and the summer villa on a private beach on the island of Corsica. Stonefang will provide you the portkey to the villa, and please reconcile with your son and tell him why you have that reputation.
"To Madame Alexandrine Blanc, I bequeath you with a private villa in Rome. I know you have always loved the place grandmother, so I am leaving the villa to you. You already have a portkey to the villa so there is no need to supply you with another one. To Aunt Apolline and Uncle Michel, I bequeath you with 300,000 galleons. You and cousins Fleur and Gabrielle have been there for us since our parents died, and I thank you for that."
D'Eon felt a knot in his throat start to form. He knew that Lia was inside of him, but just hearing her will was the nail on the coffin, the proof that he would never be able to touch her physically ever again.
"And lastly, to my little brother D'Eon, I leave you with everything else of the de Beaumont family. You are now emancipated and Stonefang will give you the Lord's ring. Oh D'Eon, I am so sorry that I had to leave you. Grow up to be a kind, gentle, but also a strong young man."
After those last words, Lia's face disappeared and the smoke returned to just floating about inside the orb. Stonefang gently handed the orb to another goblin present in the room. "To those that have articles to be collected, please go with Irongrip to the next room." Among those, Lady Zabini and Xavier turned to the mentioned goblin. As Lord Malfoi turned to follow, D'Eon felt compelled to grab his sleeve.
Lord Malfoi turned his head to look at D'Eon, but he then noticed that D'Eon's eyes had taken a silvery sheen.
"Beware of next Friday's gathering. Your wife, Josephine, has not been faithful to you and plans on having her suitor kill you. Change the location of the gathering to trap Monsieur Clermont."
The silver left D'Eon's eyes and he let go of Lord Malfoi's sleeve. His words had drawn everyone's attention to him. Xavier seemed quite saddened, but who wouldn't be if one had found out that their mother was going behind their father's back? Fleur and Gabrielle looked surprised, while Apolline and Alexandrine had awed expressions.
Lord Malfoi looked composed, but to those who knew him personally, he was saddened and enraged. "Thank you D'Eon. I shall plan accordingly."
The atmosphere seemed tense, but then Madame Alexandrine said something quite unusual even for her:
"Damn. It seems you won't be getting the Veela inheritance."
-End Flashback—
D'Eon chuckled a little before looking down at the Lord's ring that now adorned his right ring finger. The ring looked quite similar to his Heir ring; a thick silver band with an expertly etched family crest on the pale stone. The only difference was that silver wings were set on each side of the stone.
He turned to look at Becky. Ever since he could remember, she had always been there for him. She took care of him like her own son ever since his parents died. He felt grateful that he had someone like Becky.
"Please be careful D'Eon. Things might have changed since you've last been to England," Becky said worryingly.
D'Eon swiftly pulled her into a hug, wrapping his arms around her.
"I can't guarantee anything, but I promise Becky."
Letting her go, D'Eon pulled a black stone out of his pocket. In his memories, he had seen Lia use every time they went to visit the residence.
Making sure that everything he had was shrunk and put into his pocket, he took held of the black stone.
"Sirius."
And before Becky could blink, D'Eon was gone from the chateau.
