"Dear Samuel,
It's hard to believe how long it's been since we first met. I remember the first day you moved in across the street from me and how you were trying to show off by trying to lift so much stuff once you noticed I saw you. I also remember you falling face first and trying to hide my laugh as I rushed over to make sure you were okay. As embarrassed as you must have felt, it was that moment that got us to first talk to each other. Seeing how amazing my life turned out having you by my side, I wouldn't want anything to change from first meeting you. We've been married for over 20 years, and I hope the next 20 years are just as wonderful.
Happy Anniversary from your loving angel,
Amy."
As Shinji finished speaking, he saw the letter was finished on screen. Next to the letter were pictures of a couple from when they were teenagers to now in their 40s. There was also a note on how they first met, explaining that Samuel had fallen, and Amy was like an angel coming in to help in his time of need. As Shinji looked over the letter one last time, he nodded and clicked print. Once he printed out the letter, he grabbed it and looked it over.
"Another one down." Shinji sighed as he put it in a folder and labeled it with the couple's names. He then sat it in a tray with other folders and clicked on the next couple he had to make a letter for.
While Shinji was getting ready for his next letter, three others were working on their own in the office he was in. Some celebrate anniversaries, others birthdays, and some ask for said person to marry them. All had asked for help expressing their feelings since they could not find the right words. Thankfully, businesses like this existed to help said people express how important that certain someone was in their life. After working on letters for an hour, Shinji got up from his desk and grabbed the completed folders. He walked outside and dropped the folders off in another room.
"Hey there, Shinji." Misato smiled as she waved. She was walking down the hall when she saw Shinji. "Got another batch of letters done for us?"
"Yep." Shinji smiled as he leaned against a wall. "I've hit over my quota, so I should be fine for a while."
"That's good." Misato sighed. "I wish you'd consider not being obsessed with work, though. You're still young, so go out and have fun instead of staying in an office for so long."
"I know." Shinji looked down. Misato had been telling him this for months, but Shinji seemed to focus only on work and nothing else.
"Just try not to be obsessed with work." Misato sighed before smiling again. "Either way, thanks for all the work you've done today. As always, you're the one we can always depend on."
"Thanks, Misato." Shinji smiled before walking back to his office. He grabbed his jacket and left as he was finished for the day.
It was a bit chilly tonight, so Shinji grabbed a jacket after seeing the weather outlook on his phone. As the sun set, he walked to the subway, bought a ticket, and boarded the subway to take him home. He then put his headphones in and switched the settings on his phone.
"Play a Jose Gonzalez song." Shinji had recently heard his music while browsing online and loved the sound of his songs.
"Playing, Jose Gonzalez." His phone said to him as it started to play music.
"Well it's one thing to fall in love
but another to make it last.
I thought we were just beginning
now you say we're in the past"
"Play a different Jose Gonzalez song." Shinji quickly said after hearing the lyrics. His phone instantly switched to the song "Step Out." Besides that, his ride back to his apartment was the same as usual. He entered his building, got in his elevator, and walked toward his apartment. He got out his keys to open the door.
"Hey there, Shinji." A female with short reddish brown hair said from across the hall.
"Oh, hey, Mana." Shinji turned to look at her.
"Another long day at the office?" Mana leaned against her doorframe.
"Nope." Shinji lightly laughed and scratched the back of his head. "It was the same as every other day."
"Sounds boring." Mana sighed.
"Anyways, how are you and Adam?"
"Oh, good." Mana looked away. "He's staying over at work, though. Wish he'd tell me this instead of waiting to tell me at the last minute."
"Sorry to hear that." Shinji frowned.
"Oh, don't worry about me." Mana smiled. "Hey, why not come over this weekend and see what I'm working on."
"I don't know." Shinji started to say as he looked down.
"Come on. It will be fun." Mana walked over and stood in front of him with her arms crossed. "Are you seriously going to make one of your childhood friends beg for you to hang out with them?"
"Fine." Shinji lightly laughed. "You got me. I'll come over this weekend."
"Thank you." Mana gave him a quick kiss on the cheek and ran back to her apartment. "See you then."
Shinji waved as she shut the door and dropped his smile once it was closed. He got his keys out of his pocket, opened his door, and walked inside his apartment. He then sat his stuff done, changed into his pajamas, and made some ramen. as he ate at the table, he kept looking across from it to an empty seat. Despite her being gone now, he couldn't help but feel sad that it was empty. After finishing his ramen, he got up and got ready for bed. As he climbed into bed, he lay on his right side, which faced the wall. He used to sleep on his left but did this so that he didn't have to see that, just like the seat at the table, the other side of his bed was empty.
A/N: Hey guys, so not only did I make a new chapter to Underneath, I also made a new story. It's inspired by one of my favorite movies of all time her. If you haven't seen that movie, please check it out. It's one of the best films I've ever seen. Anyways, I thought I'd add some fun facts to the end to do something different.
1. The title was originally a joke, but I love the idea of it referring to the future of this story.
2. I didn't notice how ironic the angel thing was until I finished the chapter.
3. Originally, it was supposed to be Mari that lives across from Shinji, but I wanted to give Mana some love since she doesn't get that much.
4. I really wish I had Theodore's job where he makes love letters since I'm also a writer. For those that don't know, that's the main character in her and the role Shinji is filling in this story.
As always, leave a review telling me what you think of the story.
