After driving a few hours I managed to find a main road and started heading east. Stopping at a gas station to swipe a map from the place. Getting back in the car and pulling out, I opened the map stopping after a few miles to get my bearings. I was on some back road but if I traveled for a few miles I would make it to the main highway.
"Okay then it's...a good long drive through middle of no where to get to New York." And by my estimation would take three days if I was driving twenty over the limit for the whole time.
"Joy—" I froze as headlights came up behind me, I ducked down in the drivers seat. The car slowed as my car appeared in their lights and I swore softly. I stayed down though hoping they would think the car was abandoned. I heard car doors open and saw a figure go to the passenger side, holding my breath I waited whoever it was glanced in not seeing me pressed against the black interior. They left, but my luck ran out as someone tapped on the driver side window I rolled my eyes and turned making eye contact with Coulson. I pouted out my lip and glared not moving an inch. "Come on Cameron—"
"Nope." He sighs and I feel the tension rising, obviously Fury would not be happy with my escape so something told me if force was necessary force would be used. "So Fury's pissed?" I asked distracting Coulson from my hand slipping along my leg to the ignition.
"Yes, you injured two agents and you have used valuable manpower that could have been used in locating the Tesseract—" I turned the key then not caring about the lecture my foot stomping on the gas. Tires screeched on asphalt as I sped away, though it wasn't long before head lights came up in my rear view and I pushed the car to it's limits. Seeing an exit I swerved to it almost rolling the car as I turned and balanced precariously on two wheels. Coulson's vehicle wasn't so lucky as they spun out behind me. I smirked victory ragging in my head as I rolled down the window giving the guys the finger. I thought I was home free when the engine stalled and slowly yet painfully obvious the speedometer dropped from 200 to 0 in a matter of seconds. I remained silent for a moment then slammed my hands against the wheel swearing.
"Are you shitting me?" I bolted from the car hoping I could sprint my way out far enough that I could hide in the wilderness. But Coulson, the bastard, knew me too well. I felt the pain of the Taser prods sticking into my back before the current of electricity ripple through me. My muscles convulsing I dropped to the pavement. Though thankfully Coulson wasn't out for blood and the pain ebbed though I struggled as two agents got their grubby hands on me. My body still twitching in the aftershocks of the attack, I glared as Coulson approached a needle and syringe in his hand. My eyes widened in fear I didn't want to be put under again no way in hell! "Cameron, I'm sorry but you know this has to be done."
No it doesn't! I squirmed and convulsed like a coyote in a snare pulling at the agent's grip hopping one of them would release me. But no Coulson stuck the needle into the vein in my arm a droplet of blood forming around the injection site. I whimpered but finally a woozy feeling overwhelmed me and I was out.
"S uch anger." I jolt in surprise my gaze looking to the source of the voice.
"Who the he—" I am cut off as a hand grips my throat in a cold iron grip. It's the man from the truck bed. His green eyes stare into mine with an eerie insanity. He's silent for a time just staring at me assessing. I claw at his hand though his grip does not slacken though it's not getting any tighter either.
"You will be perfect." He smirks leaning close a flash over green dances between us, blinding me. I cry out falling to the floor as his footsteps leave.
"What did you mean?" I scream clutching my head as pain laps over the flesh into the bone and through my mind. I curl up on the floor screaming again.
"What did you do?"
I start from my prone form against the seat, I can hear distant voices. I recognize Coulson's but not the other. I blink attempting to gain some kind of baring back though my mind is fuzzy and a headache pounds through my skull. I groan and the conversation stops, finally the world rights itself and I don't feel as sick as I did. "So you remember Cameron?" I blink my mind still processing what had just happened in my head.
"Uh, yeah...Kinda." That voice I've heard it before...Steven Rogers, the man my Oma never stopped talking about. The man found in ice somehow still alive. The guy they tried to get me to lie to. I give Coulson a hate filled glare which he returns with smile.
Asshole.
As if sensing my little swear Coulson smiles a bit wider before going over to the cockpit to speak with the pilot.
"Hello...again." I blink turning my gaze over to the Star spangled man, he looks more out of place then I feel on a daily basis.
"mhmsn—" I stop then realizing that a gag had been wrapped around my mouth. "Couswooon!" I shriek against the gag, he returns hands behind his back all calm and dignified.
"You know it had to be done." I glared and then noticed I was chained as well. I sighed but pointed to the gagged and made a pleading gesture. Coulson sighs glancing to the Captain.
"Do you mind?" Captain blinks looking between Coulson and I.
"Oh no, I'm sure she's fine without it—"
"You'd be surprised." But still he steps forward I bend my head down allowing him easier access to the knot. Once the gag is free I stretch my jaw waggling my tongue out.
"Ugh, seriously when is the gag not going to be a thing?"
"When you are nice to your superiors." I huffed plopping back against the seat the chains jangled loudly and Steve winces.
"Can the accessories come off too?" I hold them up the steel glinting in the dim lights of the cabin.
"Not till we land."
"Ugh!" I slouch back, huffing but it stops as Coulson sighs and pulls out the key handing it to me.
"We're almost there anyways. But if you try—"
"I'll be good, you know I hate heights and Nat never taught me how to hijack a Quinn jet." Coulson smiles at this and I see the side of the Agent I had grown fond of, the one that saw me as what I wanted everyone to see me as. A human. I unlock the chains and rub my wrists handing back the key I stretch, groaning as my back cracks and my legs stretch.
"I missed good old movement."
"I'm sure." The Cap spoke up this time and I turned a curious glance over to him, I had met him once before. And it had not ended well.
"Put these on." I jumped as a old style dress was thrown at me Fury glared with his one good eye before leaving. I stuck my tongue out at the door, though I glanced at the clothing with a sigh I stripped and put on the new outfit. It was a forties style dress, with the tight skirt and flattering shirt, made from some kind of silky material. I was also given some lipstick and had to curl my hair. Finally when I was done Fury came back in held up a photo and nodded. I quirked a brow but he gave no comment besides. "Follow me." With that we moved from the room I had been housed in during my transfer to the bright light of the outside world. We were somewhere in New York that much I could tell before being forced into an SUV with black tinted windows, which the world couldn't see into. We drove along at a fast speed, why I didn't know but something was up.
"Listen I need you to pretend to be your grandmother—"
"What?" I turned shocked as Fury gave me his completely serious no BS look.
"We had an issue arise and you're the one who can help...calm it—"
"What's in it for me?"
"You can visit your Grandmother for a week."
"Deal." I had been desperate to see my Oma after being taken away. The SUV skidded to a stop in Time's Square of all places.
"Alright there's your target." He pointed and I saw a well built blond looking like he might faint at any moment.
"Can do." I opened the door enough that I couldn't be seen just yet. Lord knows how this guy would react. I stepped onto the pavement as the crowds quieted around us. Finally I pull out of the car and the man turned, his eyes taking me in before a wave of relief seemed to wash over him, I remember him then how could I have forgotten with all the pictures both my Oma and grandfather had shown me.
"Captain America?" I asked hesitantly my german accent was...mediocre at best, his blue eyes brightened and I felt a rock settle in my stomach.
"Klara?" I stepped forward giving a half assed smile.
"Yes, it is me—" His grip was strong but not painful as he whisked me up with a happy noise.
"Oh thank god someone who can help." I coughed and winced sighed.
"I can't do this." I sighed and this made him stiffen dropping me, thank goodness Natasha had taught me how to land in heels. I stumbled back as he glared at me. "What's going on?" I glared.
"You're not exactly in—"
"Cameron!" I winced as Fury exited the SUV, approaching the Captain. "You've been asleep Cap..."
For your information no I did not get to see my Oma. Rather I was punished and sent to the facility which had just been destroyed.
"Excuse me?" I blinked out of my thoughts turning to the Captain.
"Yeah?"
"So...you're Klara's—"
"Granddaughter yeah."
"Oh, um how is she?" Wow, dude is your brain still frozen cause this conversation is hurting me.
"She okay I guess haven't seen her in, what's it been Coulson!? Two years—Oh no it's been five!" I had turned 21 a few months back as far as SHIELD was concerned, though Coulson had been the one to tell me—as well as sneak me out for a movie. Another reason I had a better relation with him.
"So—"
"So has Coulson said anything to damage his reputation yet?" The Captain blinked at this then glanced over to Coulson who was watching from the cockpit.
"No—No just chatting."
"Oh good I was worried he was going to say something stupid like how he—"
"We're landing!" Coulson said a bit too happily as he stepped between us giving me a look that said 'say anything else and you're butt is tasered again.' I smirked, standing to grab ahold of the railing above in order to stand and wait for us to land. Once the bay door opened I sprung out much to the landing guys dismay.
"Oh sweet glorious land—Even if you are only a ship I prefer that to the flying metal death trap!" I wailed dramatically as I landed on the cement of the aircraft carrier. "Is she always like this?" I heard someone ask behind me. Coulson chuckled.
"On a good day."
"So I see we still haven't gotten over that fear of heights!" At that voice my mood brightened.
"Nat!" I shouted and in a dead sprint rushed the spy. Who embraced me with a happy older sister like smile.
"Hey kid how've ya been?"
"In trouble!" Coulson called from behind us, I glared back and winced as Natasha leveled a look at me.
"What' happened?"
"Things we can discuss later?" She sighed but nodded keeping an arm around me. Natasha and I had not met on the best of circumstances but when SHIELD had asked her to train me she had done it...very unwillingly. And with good reason. But as time went on and we both saw sides of the other we grew close through that. We walked back to Coulson and Steve.
"Agent Romanov, Captain Rogers."
"Ma'am."
"Hi, they need you on the bridge. They're starting the phase trace." I waved back to Coulson staying with Nat and Steve. I glanced over seeing...someone I hadn't met before looking very, very lost amongst the commotion of the ship.
"it was quite the buzz around here finding you in the ice, thought Coulson was gonna swoon."
"Oh he did." I spoke the Captain glanced between us, looked like he hoped we were joking.
"Did he ask you to sign his Captain America trading cards yet?"
"Trading cards?"
"They're vintage...he's very proud of them."
"Dr. Banner!" Oh he has a name great. Poor guy looked happy that someone had need of him.
"Oh yeah...They told me you would be coming."
"Word is you can find the cube."
"Cube? What cube?" Natasha turned to me.
"I'll explain later." I huffed but buttoned up.
"Is that the only word about me?"
"Only word I care about." I blinked at this, staring at the Doctor for a few seconds my gaze must have been off putting as he spoke.
"And you are?" He asked turning to me wringing his hands again.
"Cameron."
"No last name with that?"
"None that I care to give." He smiled at that.
"Great." Banner decided to move the conversation along.
"Must be strange for you..."
"Well this is actually kind of familiar."
"Gentlemen, you might wanna step inside in a minute it's gonna get a little hard to breath." I blinked.
"Wait why?" I asked a little bit more panicked then I would like to admit. As an alarm sounded and something sounded below us.
"Secure the deck." Someone called over and intercom and I had to calm myself for a second.
"Nat what the heck is happening?"
"Is this a submarine?" Cap asked.
"Really? They want me in a submerged pressurized metal container?"
"Do you have claustrophobia?" I asked more than confused now about our mystery guest.
"Not exactly." I followed the two as the approached the edge of the ship, wanting to see though not wanting to look over the edge. I gapped seeing the water churn and fall away.
"Really an airship, really!?"
Here we are chapter two and getting more done! Huge thanks to WinterLifeAmerica! Enjoy.
