A/N: This idea took a really long time to bring into completion, but I finally figured out how to do it. I really hope you like it, please read and review!
Why did I do that? I had spent years apart from my father, I finally found him, and then I yelled at him? But I felt I was right. He is, after all, my father. And he should believe in me. And I was going to prove myself by casting that spell. I went to Rumpelstiltskin's shop to find Belle and get back the book of Analain. I had laws of magic to change.
"Belle!"
"Elizabeth!"
"May I please have the book back? It is time for me to cast the spell."
"Oh...", she said, looking guilty. "I sort of gave it to Rumple so he could look it over."
"Oh."
"Don't you remember the spell though?"
"Yes. I have all the ingredients, and I just have to say my name over them."
"Well... good luck!"
"Bye!"
I walked out of the shop and into Main Street to cast the spell.
...
I put all of the ingredients together and prepared to cast the spell that would allow me to break the laws of magic. Before I could, Rumpelstiltskin ran up behind me.
"Elizabeth!"
"Dark One."
"Don't do it", he said.
"What are you, nuts? I'm doing it."
"No", he replied, lifting the book. "I realized the price."
"Whatever it is, I'll pay it."
"No!", he yelled, but it was too late. I looked down at the items and spoke a single word. "Elizabeth."
I had said I would pay the price, but I was in no way prepared for what happened next. A swirling vortex appeared.
"You foolish girl", he snarled. "Do you have any idea what you've just done?"
"Um... no?"
He grabbed my wrist and pulled me inside his shop.
...
"Elizabeth", he began slowly, as if speaking to a very young child. "Do you realize what you did?"
"Obviously not, or I wouldn't have done it."
He sighed. "When you invoke your name in a spell, you open up a void. And anyone around, particularly children, who go near it could have their soul taken into that void."
Oh. Great. "Well... I didn't know!"
"What could possibly be worth the risk?"
"Changing the laws of magic. I can bring him back now. Don't you want that?"
"More than anything. But it's not worth risking the lives of everyone in this town."
"I didn't know!"
"Hold on", he said, and, knowing what he was about to say, I cursed inwardly. "You planned to cast this spell long before Baelfire died. Why?"
I knew I couldn't keep the truth from him. "Well, in addition to the 3 known laws of magic, there is a 4th lesser known one."
"Yes. Any vow a magician makes is binding."
"Indeed. And it is this which I sought to break. For I made a promise long ago that I cannot keep."
"What?"
"I swore to never fall in love", I told him.
"It's a long story. And one I don't have time for. We have a town to save."
