Chapter 5

Klaus made his way downstairs towards the living room as he rubbed his eyes wiping away the sleep.. He hopped himself on the sofa and got ahold of the newspaper that was resting on the table..before reading it he just made himself relax on the sofa keeping his legs on the table crossing them as he started reading the paper.. he wanted to sigh in happiness because of the calm atmosphere of his house which indeed was a zoo yesterday.. he still remembers after the kitchen encounter with the two kids he went straight to watch TV in the living room but soon enough the two kids along with an Adult kid who is Kol started playing cop and thief in the living room.. He still remembers how that little girl came running down the stairs and hid herself under the table which was in front of Klaus and kept her finger on her lips telling Klaus to keep quiet.. Klaus had too roll his eyes at her behavior but, eventually decided to keep quiet and continue to watch his TV while the little girl hid herself.. it only took five seconds of silence for Klaus when Kol decided to interrupt it as he came downstairs in search of the children.. Klaus couldn't help but look at his brother who was holding a plastic gun in his hands and was wearing extra few plastic guns and knives on his belt, and not to mention he was wearing a police cap.. Klaus kept watching his brother as he slowly took a few steps down the stairs waving his gun in each and every direction, he watched as Kol took a final last step of the stair and ran towards the kitchen door standing still near the wall holding his gun near his chest.. he turned his head a little to look inside the kitchen.. and ran inside in a few speed, few seconds later Klaus heard him yelling "gotcha" as he heard chairs and tables being snatched and thrown away but when Kol came out he was alone and looking frustrated.. Kol made his way towards Klaus still holding his gun in his hands and looking at each and every direction as he slowly was taking steps towards Klaus direction.. Klaus looked at Rumi who was hiding herself under the table with her eyes shut tightly from the look on her face anyone could have guessed that she didn't wanted to be get caught.. a part of Klaus wanted her to get caught so that the game would end and he would be able to watch TV peacefully but a part of him didn't want her to get caught not because he cared for her but because he loved watching Kol so frustrated..before Kol could make his way towards Klaus.. Klaus hit his legs on the table with an thud making Kol and Rumi eyes widen.. Kol stopped to look at his brother

"What..?" he whispered "Could you please not make any noise? can't you see I'm trying to catch a thief here" Kol hissed at him as his corner of his eyes turned to look towards the end of the living room..

"Do I look like I care.?" Klaus shrugged his shoulder.. Kol's head snapped at his brother who was giving him a fake smile.. he scoffed

"Yea, how could I forget you don't care" Kol taunted, he saw how Klaus smile got sadden by his comment but he held himself straight

"You know that's not what I meant" Klaus said looking at Kol who just shrugged his shoulder..

"Do I look like I care..?" Kol said in the same tune which Klaus used earlier.. before Klaus could say anything a crash had been heard from upstairs Kol smiled as he ran upstairs carrying his guns in his hands.. Klaus looked at the way Kol went smilingly the smile he wanted him to have for him, he never wanted any of his family members to hate him like the way they do now, he heard Kol yelling in happiness and laughter and the giggles of the child who might be the one who got caught.. Klaus sighed letting out the breath he has been holding for long enough.. he turned his attention towards the TV ignoring the laughter that was taking place upstairs, he kept on switching the channels until he stopped on the discovery channel were the documentary of lions were playing on.. he watched it for another few minutes to keep him distracted from the happiness his brother was sharing which didn't include him, Klaus just started switching the channels again when he heard someone stop him.

"Switch It back.. I loves lionsh" Klaus looked under the table where Rumi was still hiding but now her face was facing towards the TV.. She was resting on her stomach her elbow resting on the ground while she kept her face in her hands..her legs were bended at her knees.. Klaus raised his eyebrow at her..

"Come out" he said.. Rumi turned her head to look at Klaus as she narrowed her eyes

"No" she said as she turned her head again to watch TV.

"I said come out" he hissed slightly in anger.. He knew it was wrong of him to take his frustration out on a child but he couldn't control himself.. Rumi looked at him scared as she slowly came out from under the table to stand in front of Klaus..

"I'm shorry" she whispered in fear making Klaus feel guilty for yelling at her.. he sighed before looking at her he didn't know what to say and do so he just said what he thought was best atleast for now

"Why don't you go to your room and sleep.. it's getting pretty late" he said giving her a small smile..she shoke her head at him

"Aunt Bekah always take meh to walk before I sleeph and she is noth home, she went out after we hit you in theh kitchen" Rumi explained but giggled at the end when she mention about hitting Klaus.. Klaus snarled under his breath still thinking about the way the kids were hitting him., not to mention the little boy called him joker saying that he was looking like one

"Okay skipping that part" Klaus started giving her a fake smile making her giggle more.. "why don't you just decide to skip today's walk and sleep instead" Klaus suggested but she shoke her head.

"No.. I can'th sleeph then" she said sadly.. he was about to say something but Rumi held his hands as her eyes got widen

"Why don't you take me to walk..?" Rumi asked as she smiled at him.. Klaus eyes got wide at her request because he didn't expect that at all.. he was about to protest but Rumi jumped up and down

"Please please please" she begged .. she joined her palms and begged him giving him her best puppy look face.. Klaus couldn't help but look at her the way she begged squeezing her eyes tightly,, the way her dimple were showing.. her blonde hairs falling down her face..she was a beautiful little girl, he couldn't help but see how she was similar like Caro- he squeezed his eyes shut as he avoided the name that was trying to take place in his mind. He didn't wanted to think about her, think about her name, think about her face, or think anything about her at all because she is the reason his family isn't the same with him..it's because of her his family has been distanced. he opened his eyes and saw Rumi looking at him , her eyes still begging him.. he couldn't help but nod.. Rumi smile got wider as she without thinking jumped on his arms hugging tightly

"Thank you thank you" she said squeezing his neck with her small hands. Klaus froze in his seat unable to respond as Rumi hugged him unexpectedly.. he slowly kept his hand on her back , his breath flinched a little when he smelled strawberry scent when her blonde hair flew at his face the same scent he was once similar with .. he backed away from the hug making Rumi look at him in confusion before she could say anything..

"We should run before Kol the police officer arrests you" Klaus said clearing his throat.. Rumi nodded smiling widely as she clapped her hands together

"Yes.. I'm going to win" she said in happiness as she ran towards the door.. but stopped near it as the knob was too high for her to reach.. she looked at Klaus who was switching off the TV now before they left.

"Klaus" she whispered making him look at her.. he raised his eyes but she only pointed her finger at the knob.. he rolled his eyes as he made his way towards Rumi and opened the door for her to walk out.. she went outside to stand on the porch while Klaus collected his jacket.. he was about to close the main door following Rumi out when he heard his name called out

"Nik..?" Klaus stopped in his track at the familiar voice..he saw Rumi hiding near the wall so that she was not to been seen.. Klaus opened the door half way to put his head inside

"Yes" he said looking at Kol who was climbing down the stairs.. "where are you going…?" Kol asked as he stood in the middle of the hall for which Klaus was grateful..

" I was just.. hmm.. I was just leaving" Klaus said trying his best to be honest.. Kol looked at him in suspicious but didn't say anything but gave him a nod..

"Ok.. I'll see you back later.. I have a thief to find.." Kol said softly to him but Klaus could still see the excitement in his voice as he went inside the kitchen.. Klaus looked at the way he went then closed the main door letting out the breath he has been holding .. he turned to look at Rumi who was keeping her hands on her mouth to stop herself from laughing…when her eyes locked with Klaus she uncovered her hands from her mouth letting out a cute giggle..

"He won't find me" she whispered in her giggles..Klaus couldn't help but smirkle thinking about how frustrated Kol is going to be when he won't be able to find Rumi… he nodded at her as he started walking outside looking back at the house once a while to see if Rumi was following.. and she was.. they walk few yards away from mansion when Klaus felt a small hand been clasped in his holding his last three fingers..he looked down an saw Rumi who was walking behind is now walking besides him.. she gave him wide smile as she held his three fingers tightly as she walked.. he could see that she loved walking at night. The way she was walking slowly swinging her legs one by one, he knew she was loving it because she carried a smile on her face as she walked.. a few times she jumped a bit holding his hands during the walk to avoid stepping on the stones that were in the way.. Klaus didn't know what to talk with her about. Infact he didn't know what to talk about with any of the children. He wasn't used to having children around..Apart of him wanted to make a conversation with her but a part of him was afraid of his own way of talking because he knew he doesn't have any control the way he talks and he didn't want to lash out on a child..

"You're aunt Bekah brother..?" Rumi asked interrupted Klaus thoughts.. he looked down at her watching her smiling at him as she looked at him waiting for her answer

"Yea I' am" he said nodding his head.. Rumi nodded

"But She never talked about you" Rumi said looking at Klaus as she narrowed her eyes a little.. Klaus looked at her , his heart broken a little at her comment when he heard that Rebekah never talked about him

"She is actually angry with me.. so she doesn't like talking about me" Klaus said smiling tightly as he looked at the sky ..he heard Rumi murmuring a Hmmm as they walked

" Maybe so, she always told me how uncle Kol was clumsy during your childhood" Rumi smiled as she talked.. "She told me once that uncle Kol fell down from house but the funny thing was , he fell on the ground which was covered in mud." Rumi said giggling a little at the story Rebekah once told her.. Klaus couldn't help but laugh at the story Rumi said. He still remembered the incident when they went outside the town for a trip when this incident had taken place, the way Kol was covered in mud was such a memory that he couldn't forget it. He laughed out loud thinking about it too .. Rumi joined him in his laughter

"That was quite a memory" he said as they walked..Rumi nodded

"Why I never saw you before..?" Rumi asked him as they walked further..Rumi let go of his hand and ran towards the bench she saw.. Klaus immediately missed her touch but ignored his feeling by keeping his hands in his pockets..he made his way towards the bench sitting beside her…

"You didn't answer my question..?" Rumi asked again as she sat comfortably on the seat.. Klaus rolled his eyes

"Don't you think you ask a lot of questions..?" he asked raising his eyebrow at her..

"I think so too, but I can't help it" Rumi smiled shrugging her shoulder.. "People say I'm a lot like my mom" she whispered

"Ohh really..? so she must be talkative too right.?" Klaus asked thinking how talkative her mom might be when her daughter was so much at the age of four..

"Yea she is.." Rumi smiled

"What about your brother then is he like his mom too or is he like his dad?" Klaus asked, the smile on Rumi face had vanished at the mention of her dad

"We don't know among me or Nick who is similar to our dad" she said as she looked at him.. Klaus looked at her in confusion and was about to ask her but her words interrupted him "We never saw him.. He left us" She said giving him a small smile. Klaus looked at her not really understanding what to say further, it felt like his words were not ready to come out of his mouth..

"I.." he started saying but Rumi kept her head on his lap suddenly looking at the sky..he backed away a little at her sudden contact..

"You know Uncle Kol named a star after me" she said smiling as she looked at the stars..Klaus looked at her sudden mood change but decided to go with it

"Really which one is it..?" He asked trying his best to sound excited.. Rumi pointed her finger at the sky

"That one.." she said "No not that, that one" she said again as she pointed at a different star.. "I think it's that one..ahhh I don't remember which star it was.." she said as she looked at the sky.. her voice was turning slow and sad..

"How about we ask Kol when we go to my house..?" He asked..

"Our home" she replied without looking at him..Klaus looked at her not really understanding what she meant..

"Our..?" He asked.. she nodded at him but still kept on looking at the stars..

"Yea , our, we have been going there from our first birthday, Aunt Bekah said it's our home too "She said. Klaus looked at her, he could see that she was speaking the truth, he didn't know why his family members are so close to this kids.. Then realization hit him.. The kids were Elijah students so when they started coming for teaching , Bekah might have got attached to them.. and Bekah was always fond of children, she wanted to be a babysitter..Klaus looked at Rumi who was looking at the stars and was softly murmuring twinkle twinkle little star..her voice was soft and sweet..the way she was brushing her hair with her fingers and small smile on her lips showing off her dimple reminded him of Caroline yet again..he just looked at her and slowly slowly he could see a mini Caroline in her.. a part of him froze thinking about what if its Caroline child his eyes got wide a little at the thought of it NO IT'S NOT POSSIBLE I TOLD HER TO ABORT IT then he sighed in relief because he was sure that Caroline might have aborted the child.. because he knew she couldn't give birth to the child when she was all alone.. he sighed again relaxing himself on the bench as he himself looked at the stars watching them twinkle..for around fifteen minutes they kept looking at the stars without saying anything..

"I'm shocked that you actually stayed quiet for a long time" Klaus said still looking at the stars.. he narrowed his eyes when he didn't hear Rumi so he looked at her an saw her sleeping peacefully in his lap.. her mouth little open as she took a breath..Klaus looked at her in shock not understanding what to do further as she slept because he never carried a child in him arms and he didn't know what to do when a child is sleeping..then suddenly she turned facing Klaus waist as she bended her legs to keep herself warm as the cold wind started blowing.. Klaus removed his jacket placing it on her watching how she easily leaned in it.. his jacket was totally covering her whole tiny body..He slowly picked her up trying not to wake her, most of all trying not to fall with her..he placed her in his arms covering her body with his jacket again as he started making his way towards his hou- their house

He held her tightly in his arms in fear of making her fall because he never held anyone else in his arms after Henrick, infact he never talked with any child after Henrick died.. as he was walking he could feel Rumi holding him tightly by his neck her blonde hairs flew at his neck and face..he felt her stir in her sleep but still she didn't wake up..she just held him tightly as she started murmuring 'momma' in her sleep.. Klaus could feel her starting to stir again.. so he rubbed his hand on her back slowly not even sure whether it will help or not..

"Your momma is going to be right here" He whispered for few seconds while he rubbed her back.. he could feel it was calming her a bit.. her breathing got steady as she fell in sleep peacefully again..Klaus sighed in relief as she slept and he made his way towards the mansion before she decided to wake up again... as he reached his house he opened the front door making his way towards the living room but stopped when he saw that everyone were sitting there.. Rebekah who was crying while Kol and Elijah who were standing near by trying to calm her down..Everyone turned their attention towards the door where Klaus was standing.. Rebekah wiped her tears as she ran towards him..But only to take Rumi from his arms..She placed Rumi in her arms and started kissing her cheeks making Rumi stir in her sleep..

"What the fuck is wrong with you Nik..? How could you take her out without telling us.." she snapped at him as she held Rumi close to her..

"She wanted to take a walk with you like always but you weren't there so she asked me" Klaus said shrugging his shoulder as if it wasn't a big deal..

"Nik..." Rebekah started saying but Rumi sleepy voice interrupted her..

"Aunt Bekah..? " she said blinking her eyes few times before she looked at Bekah.. Bekah nodded at her..

"Can you tell me a story..? I'm missing momma" she whispered as a silent tear rolled down her cheek..

"Of course, but only if you promise not to cry..?" Rebekah said making a sad face for which Rumi nodded smiling a bit.. Rebekah turned to leave but not without giving Klaus a death glare for which he just rolled his eyes..While they were making their way upstairs..Rumi's voice stopped them

"Klaus..?" She called out making Kol, Elijah and Klaus look right back at her..

"Yea..?" Klaus cleared his throat nervously as he saw everyone turned their attention at him..he looked at Rumi

"Can you take me to walk tomorrow night again..?" She asked him as she looked at him with her begging eyes..Klaus opened his mouth but closed it again as he didn't know what to say.. a part of him wanted to say NO because what he did today was because Rebekah wasn't home so it was like a job he had to do but he was sure he won't be doing that again..He opened his mouth to say NO but she interrupted him

"Please..?I like being with you" She whispered making Klaus' heart stop.. he didn't know how to breath or he didn't know what to say .. her words were like a fire to him.. he looked at everyone and saw them staring at Rumi with widened eyes..he was sure that even they were in as much shock as him..never in his life had He expected a child to say to him that she liked being with him especially when he was not at all nice to her..he didn't like children and he was sure he won't ever but rejecting Rumi was something he didn't want to do, at least not now when she was looking at him with all the hopes she was carrying.. He smiled nodding his head at her..but his smile got wider when she smiled back showing off her dimples..Rebekah held Rumi as she hid her face in her aunts neck..they made their way upstairs inside their room..

Klaus looked at Kol and Elijah who were still looking at the way Rebekah and Rumi went..He cleared his throat making them look at him

"Night" He said and made his way upstairs to his bedroom. Kol looked at the way Klaus went and was about to follow him but Elijah held his arms making him look at him

"Not now Kol" Elijah said shaking his head at Kol..

"But.." Kol started saying but stopped when Elijah raised his eyebrow at him

"I think I made myself quite clear when I said not now" he said Kol could easily detect anger raising in his voice..Kol just gave him a nod and ran upstairs to his room..Klaus immediately ran towards his room when he saw Kol making his way upstairs, Klaus hid himself near the stairs when he heard the little of Kol and Elijah conversation , he heard what Elijah said and he was happy that at least one of his sibling don't want to fight with him, at least not for now.. Klaus thoughts about yesterday nights were interrupted when he felt someone breathing on his neck.. He turned his head and saw Nick standing behind him his chin almost on Klaus shoulder as he was reading the paper.. Klaus narrowed his eyes at him

"What are you doing..?" He asked Nick who just gave him a 'what-you-think' look

"Reading the newspaper " Nick said rolling his eyes..

"You can read..?" Klaus asked raising his eyebrow at him in impression but Nick shoke his head

"I'm trying too read but mostly I see pictures" he said as he came to the front of the sofa climbing on it with the help of Klaus' legs which made Klaus snarl under his breath..Nick sat besides Klaus leaning towards his arms to read the newspaper.. Klaus tried his best to control his nervousness he felt with Nick being so close to him God what's with these children always trying to cuddle..? he thought as he tried to concentrate on the paper

"Can you explain to me what this word means..?" Nick asked pointing it at the word that was printed on the paper.. Klaus pressed his lips in irritation when Nick interrupted his reading but nodded at him .. he looked at the word Nick was pointing at

"Loyalty" Klaus said . Nick looked at him in confusion "loyalty means your loyal towards a person, whom you never lie to her or him and always stand with them no matter what" Klaus explained.. Nick nodded his head as his lips formed a 'O' as he understood what Klaus said. Klaus gave him a nod and started reading the paper again

"So I never lie to my momma does it means I'm loyal to her..?" he asked interrupting Klaus again. Klaus looked at him watching him staring at Klaus with a smile

"Yes" he said making Nick clap his hands in happiness ..Klaus smiled a bit but turned his attention back into the paper

"Wow" he said smiling at Klaus as he swung his legs one by one.. "Well atleast I'm not like my dad" he whispered in slow voice which didn't go unheard by Klaus. He kept his paper down to stare at Nick

"What..?" He asked but nick shoke his head

"Nothing" Nick said shaking his head ..

"I don't think it's nothing..Because I heard every word you said" Klaus said

"so..?" Nick rolled his eyes "that doesn't mean I'll tell you why I said it" he said making Klaus' eyes widen at his bluntness.. Nick looked at him realizing his words were rude "I'm sorry" he said.. Klaus gave him a nod before he could ask him again what he meant.. Rumi came running down the stairs calling out for nick.. for a second Klaus got confused wondering which Nick she was referring too

"Nick Nick Nick" she called as she ran towards them.. instead of stopping in front of them she quickly climbed the sofa with the help of Klaus legs as she squeezed herself in between Klaus and Nick.. Klaus rolled his eyes at the way this siblings climb the sofa specially using his lap

"What is it..?" Nick asked in annoyance..Rumi narrowed her eyes at him

"Don't be Rude" she whispered but smiled when she remembered why she came running downstairs "momma called yesterday when we were sleeping" Rumi said making Nick smile

"Really, what did she say..?" Nick asked..

"I don't know much but Aunt Bekah said mom reached safely" Rumi said smiling at Nick.. Nick smiled happily

"Cool" Nick said

"Yea Cool" Rumi said but Nick rolled his eyes pulling Rumi hairs making her yelp in pain..

"Cool words are used by boys because they are cool.. Girls are not cool" Nick said pulling her hair more.. Klaus looked at them watching the siblings interact with each other the same way he used to interact with Rebekah.. Rumi squeeze herself in Klaus' arms trying to make distance between her and Nick so that he won't pull her hair..But Nick kept pulling her hair..she jumped in Klaus laps kicking Nick with her legs making him yelp this time

"Even girls are cute" she said kicking Nick as she was still sitting on Klaus lap.. she held Klaus shirt tightly for support as she kept on Kicking.. Soon enough Nick started kicking her too.. they kept kicking each other's legs until it was Klaus who eventually decided to interrupt their fight by wrapping his arms around Rumi's waist to pick her up and making her sit on the other side of him..Nick went forward to pull her hair but Klaus stopped him

"Hey, stop it now" Klaus hissed making Nick stop.. Nick looked at Rumi then at Klaus,, he nodded and climbed off the sofa making his way towards his room but not going before sticking his tongue out at her.. Rumi stuck her tongue out too and kept her thumb on her tip of the nose while moving her fingers in a teasing way..Nick stomped his foot before he disappeared in the hallway.. Rumi let out a giggle as she rested her back on Klaus' chest..Klaus who was quiet all this time watching the kid's interaction decided to talk

"Aren't you quite a fighter?" He asked making her look at him.. she smiled showing off her teeth

"I'm strong, Like my momma" she said smiling at him..Klaus looked at her raising his eyebrow wondering why she always kept on complementing her mother while both the sibling don't even want to talk about their father..

"Rumi, your bath is ready came fast" They heard Rebekah voice calling out for Rumi.. Rumi jumped from Klaus arms running towards the stairs.. Klaus shoke his head at her excitement for everything and opened the paper to read it again without any interruption.. he was just going to start reading when he felt someone poking his leg.. he put his paper down looking at Rumi who was standing in front of him smilingly. Klaus raised his eyes at her asking her what...

"I forget something" she whispered still smiling at him...

"What did you forgot..?" he asked.. Rumi waved her hand telling him to come close to her.. Klaus cleared his throat and leaned towards her.. Until they were face to face.. She smiled widely

"Good morning" she said quickly kissing his cheek as she ran upstairs and let out giggles... Klaus sat in the same position for minutes as if someone froze him.. he slowly moved his hands where Rumi kissed him.. without even realizing his lips started forming a smile .. he leaned back in the sofa picking up his paper again to read with a smile still on his face.. he was about to read it when someone ringed the bell making him snarl.

"I don't think I'm going to complete reading this newspaper ever.." he murmured making his way towards the front door..he opened the door with a force ready to snap at the person who was standing on the opposite side but he froze looking at the person who was on other side

"God, I'm so sorry that I didn't came yesterday I had a lot of work to do" Katherine started rambling as she was searching something in her bag she made her way inside without even looking at who opened the door..she stood in the middle of the living room

"Please tell me the kids slept well" she said turning around but still busy in searching for something in her bag

"Yes" Klaus said, he watched how at his voice Katherine hands stopped searching as she froze..her head slowly turned to look at the person who was standing in front of her.. her eyes got wide in shock when their eyes locked

"Kl.. Klaus" she whispered as she dropped her cellphone

"Katherine" Klaus said "it's been a while" he said as a smirk started forming on his lips
